Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 12/17

Good morning,

Still no workout. Maybe today. I like the look of the Live workout (Pump Party) that Cathe did yesterday.

Diane Sue, thanks for posting the recipe. I copied and pasted to Word to save. Gertie sounds just like Keegan when it comes to trimming his nails. He is a powder puff for anything else, but watch out if you try to do something with his feet. Our friend that grooms and boards them knows how he is so she gets her husband to hold him when she does his nails. I told her to muzzle him if she has to. We always get the 3 year rabies vaccine. I am very careful not to have multiple vaccines given the same day....have heard of too many negative reactions from dogs when vets do that. We do Titers for distemper, & parvo.

Carolyn, I hate when that happens to a post I have done. :(

Judy, wow, I don't know how you used to do those runs and a spin class right after. Impressive! :)

Valerie, its too bad that you have that problem with the sound on DVD's. I know you have tried all kinds of stuff to see if it is the player etc. I wonder if the new series has the "no music" option...if so would you order it?

Waving to Lori...

Making the dog's food today...

Take care,

Well I did not lose this post I just never hit reply! This was from last night.

Good evening ladies,

This morning was WS3 Barre Sculpt. I liked it but needed more so I did a LEKfit Fusion and my legs are worked! Total time was 62 mins Tonight was a couple of Bellicon bounces totaling 43 mins.

It has been cold here! Woke up and it was -1 and right now at 9pm it is 2 degrees. Brrrrrrr

Deb...glad you are getting better. Rest is the best medicine. GiGi is such a lovey. She does not like the cold either. She wastes no time doing her thing outside then wants right back in. She is doing so well. Still a little too rough with Nilla but we are able to manage this. She is loving having us both home. We bought her a couple of toys for xmas and one is a bright pink squeaky ball. She alreadys has a few orange ones but we felt she needed a pink one. :)

Diane Sue....thanks for the recipe. They sound delicious. I too am looking forward to Cathe’s new series. I am going to download Saturday Thinking we should get the link Friday. I agree with her it is best to wait a day. A few series back I downloaded immediately and a couple came out with some pixels here and there. Not horribly but enough to annoy me. I ended up contacting customer service for a new link.I am planning her most recent live which is Pump Party tomorrow morning. Looks fun.

Judy...a 38 min spin is a full workout for me. I wish I had the endurance to spin like you do. 30 mins into a spin workout and I am ready for it to be over. I was doing pretty good spinning more often but had to move my spin bike due to holiday decorations. My son is planning to move out now in February. So this will give us our space back. We were also planning our movie theater but this has been pushed back with his move. I heard we are in for a cold few weeks too. I hate the cold more and more each year. Run then spin? Now that is amazing!

Carolyn...how did you like Step Jam. I liked it. Non complicated step moves works for me.

Valerie..hoping shoulders are better. Mine have been doing great. Fingers crossed. I like looking thru older cookbooks. I don’t make any of the recipes but I look to look. Makes no sense. Lol!

Have a great night all!

Deb, I think next time I will suggest they use a muzzle. I would rather be safe than start a problem. With her chewing her nails and me filing daily, they hardly needed trimming. He just nipped the tips. They just gave her the Lepto and the Bordetella yesterday. I had not thought about all of those immunizations at once. He offered a booster instead of heartgard, but I have no problem remembering. I put the stickers in mybaagenda book and have monthl phone reminders for that and Frontline. I dont swipe my delete reminders off till it is done.

Lori, I have waited a day day most of the time to download and it seems the dvds show up the same day. I remember having problems with one on RWH when I downloaded so I am missing that one. I have the dvds so dontbworry as bout it. I keep aaying I am going to get the live workouts again. Maybe when I start getting bored with my new workouts.

Good Morning Everyone,

It snowed a little last night and it's still very cold. Right now it's 12 degrees with a windchill of 0 and it doesn't look like it will get much warmer for the next week.

Deb-Thanks! It's been years since I did the run-spin class combo. I put Pump Party Live on my to do list. It does look like a good one. I plan on doing it this weekend.

Diane Sue-thanks for the recipe! That looks really good. I agree about endurance work. When I was running and marathon training, the training was structured to have at least one long training day, usually on Saturday or Sunday.

Valerie-I've only done Cycle Sweat once or twice and I didn't like it as much as Cathe's other spin workouts. The other thing I thought about with regards to endurance training in the winter was from when I was running and training with a group. The winter goal was to do a 90 minute run, or 10 miles, once a week to maintain a base, then build from there in the spring and summer.

Lori-It looks like several of us will be doing Pump Party Live. That one looks like fun. I think I will wait a day or 2 to try downloading the Fit Split workouts. I hate the cold more and more each year too. Looks like this winter is going to be a rough one :(

Hi to Carolyn!

Judy

I sure have problems with music! I shifted DVD to "voice only" but I could still hear the music. once I get "sensitized" to a song and don't like it, I drives me crazy. I hadn't done Cycle Sweat in a while. didn't remember why. figure it out. I like the count down timer, CS doesn't have it. and then the music. My older DVD's are all fine. there's been a change in the sound mixing. Even DH agrees the music is way too loud but he doesn't mind the particular songs.

Judy, that's the approach everyone had for endurance training, once a week, something long and less intense. I tried training for a marathon but always got sick when I upped the mileage. finally gave up the idea. We don't hike as much as we used to and not possible here in winter. we used to ski more but we've lost places to go, and its completely weather dependent. some years are great, others not. the ski we did the other day was thin on snow, now it's raining and the lower elevation snow will be gone again, and then it gets cold but not enough snow to ski down low. the higher elevations at the passes are too crowded for us.
I agree though, .... a run and then a spin sounds OMG challenging. did you ever aim for a triathalon? I don't swim so never considered it. I can swim, but not well over distance. I must be "dense"... I sink low in the water.
Deb, I wouldn't have ordered the series anyway. I have so many DVD's already. I won't live long enough to get tired of them all. I only have Cathe. I would look at other instructors for a little variety. the workouts feel very different without the music. If there is a serious favorite in this last group, I might look at it.

Today I did Low Impact Challenge from the Low Impact series, 52 minutes, 359 calories, average heart rate 147, max 174, 4, 668 steps. I have catch up house cleaning and some varnishing to do in the add on room. I am glad that I get to stay inside today.

Judy, I don't think that we will get a real snow where we are at. More than likely sleet and ice. I like Pedal Power the best of Cathe's spin workouts. The timer is motivating because you know how much time you have left to pace or push yourself.

Valerie, I think I am getting more to where I do not notice the music much unless I like it. I kind of get annoyed with the introductory music on dvds though when doing a series and hearing it every day. The tune gets old fast. I guess I pay more attention when it is a tune that makes me happy and I like. There is not a lot of dvds out there that has really good music in them anymore. Maybe it is just how old I am or something, but they all seem similar.

Today I did X Train Bis and Tris for 53 minutes and 178 calories burned. My average heart rate was 103 and maximum heart rate was 149. I followed that with Core Max workout 3 with stability ball and medicine ball. That was 18 minutes, 45 calories, 99 average heart rate, and 124 maximum heart rate.

Well the last daughter and her family left this morning. We put away the large tree and decorations this afternoon and I have my workout area back. I was really annoyed when I lost the post because it looked like I was still logged on. Oh well!

Diane Sue, your recipe is very similar to mine. This was the first time that I used the King Arthur recipe but I will use it again.

Deb, that Cathe Live preview looked good. I did not renew this time since I rarely use Live.

Valerie, it’s too bad that the music is so distracting for you. Do you have the Strong and Sweaty Series? Ramped Up Upper Body is a great workout. I like all of the strength workouts in the series but that is my favorite. You might like that one and I don’t think the music is loud or memorable.

Lori, I like Cardio Step Jam. I’ve done it 2-3 times now. The WS3 workouts are all around 30 minutes which is a good time for me. I can do them when they need a short workout without feeling the need to add something else.

Judy, try to stay warm and safe in this weather. You reminded me about Core Max a few months ago and I keep coming back to it. It’s a good core workout.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Carolyn, it is always so much fun having family. I got my house pretty much put back in order this afternoon. I put away Christmas stuff yesterday before I took Gertie to the vet. I didn't have too much out. I chose to keep my ribbon wreath out that my older granddaughter's and I made when they were younger. It is not too Christmas looking. Green and gold with hope in the center and some gold berries at the top with a small sprig of artificial pine. I was so happy to find it, I want to enjoy it. Those rolls do look similar. Mine use more yeast. I use Montana non GMO flour for most of my cooking now. The powdered milk addition to the rolls reminds me of the Cornell Triple Rich formula that I used to use when my children were growing up. It had powdered milk and I believe wheat germ and something else in it to boost the nutrition of the flour used in baking. We ate a lot of wheat germ and I spent a lot in a small nutrition center because there was not a lot of that type of stores or places to purchase good products. I will say they were rarely sick growing up.

I did a 40 min spin from X train. then did MM biceps. A good combination. took about an hour.
Carolyn, I have the S&S series. I especially like Ramped upper body. However, the music on that one is the WORST. I have a sticky note on the case reminding me to go to vocals only right away so I don't have to stop half way thru. I haven't given up the idea that my DVD player, or other sound equipment is contributing somehow, because I alone in being bothered except of course DH who thinks it's way too loud too. when I first got the series, I contacted CS because it was so incredibly loud. We have a new TV there , and it made no difference. It is the system I have to work with until something fails. It's occurred to me that if I am the only one bothered, that there might be something here that distorts or over amps the sound.
I have a good cinnamon roll recipe but will look at the KA one. I prefer them without frosting.

Did anyone else pay for Fit Split with Pay Pal? They still have not sent me a download code. I went through this with Strong and Sweaty and had to wait for them to respond and give me a code.

Valerie, you wouldn't need to make icing for any of the cinnamon roll recipes. I have seen my son in law scrape icing off of those pillsbury cinnamon rolls. I think I did the macros on my recipe at one time with and without the nuts. I usually leave out the nuts.

Diane Sue...when I first purchased the Fit Split the code was not automatically sent like it had always been in the past. I had used paypal so thinking this was the issue. I immediatlely contacted Cathe’s customer service and they sent me a code. I saw the link today to download on the forums and will do so in the morning. In the download message on the forums she mentions if you paid with paypal they would be sending you the code today. I have not received this email but did not think much of it because I have my code. Sounds like you have not received this email. :(

Lori, I did not receive an e mail with the code, just the one saying my dvds were shipped and the one that mimics the one you just quoted that is posted on the forums saying they would be sending a code to Pay Pal and Amazon Pay customers. I posted on that post on the forums asking when they were sending the code. I remember this from last time.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday. My friend went to the ER last night....her daughter told me she seemed confused, and had weakness in her left arm. I have not heard anything yet. I hardly slept last night.

Lori, did you end up doing Pump Party? how was it? Gigi sounds like a happy joyful puppy.

Diane Sue, I didn;t know there was any booster for heartworm meds? I agree, would rather use the monthly oral dose. No, did not pay for FitSplit with Paypal. I did not purchase the downloads, so no code.

Judy, did you do Pump Party? we got more snow last night....and bitter cold single digit temps for this coming week it seems. They are telling people it will be 1 degree downtown where they do the ball drop on New Year's Eve.....brrrr....way to cold to be out there.

Valerie, that' too bad about the music and DVD's. Like most others, I barely hear the music in the background. I liked it when Cathe used "recognizable" songs. I know that they are restricted from a lot of that these days, and use those remakes or whatever they are called.

Carolyn, thanks for the link to the recipe. :). Good job on the xTrain workout. Are you using this series until you start the new one?

Take care,

Carolyn I looked at the recipe. It is totally different from the one I make. Mine have raisins and cinnamon inside and are topped with walnuts. not frosted. Mine you invert the pan when hot so I guess they are more like a pecan roll, except I use walnuts. DH has issues with pecans. The KA method is unusual .... KA always has such great detail.
I can’t find my recipe for a link. it was from Eating Well mag from the ‘90’s. EW used to have good desserts and baked things but they have eliminated too much sweetener and the results are disappointing. I don't have dessert things very often. when I do, I want GOOD, not marginal.

Deb that is sad about your friend. it does not sound like she is doing well.

I liked recognizable songs better too but not overwhelmingly loud where the voice is drowned out. it is strange, we use it for TV, cable when we had it. we bought an apple TV set up so I can stream. the sound seems normal. even older Cathe DVDs are fine. only the newer series. I don't remember the series order sequence, but it seems the issue started with ICE and continued with S&S. I think X-train was before ...haven't used it in a while but don't remember a problem there.
I had my f/up Derm apt yesterday. this is my regular doc. she was not entirely convinced it was an infection, but gave me an explanation less than believable to me. I fully understand antibiotics should not be thrown at every little thing, but I'm quite convinced this was infected. I personally have not had many infected wounds. at any rate, I had a full skin exam and it was good. no other problem spots.

Deb-I'm so sorry about your friend :( I'm keeping her in my prayers. I didn't do Pump Party yet. Yesterday ended up being a rest day. I might do it later today or maybe tomorrow morning. We got more snow last night too.

Carolyn-Great workouts! Core Max is a really good one. I tend to prefer it over some of the newer core and ab workouts.

I'll check in again later today.

Good morning ladies!

I downloaded the new workouts this morning and have been busy customizing to my liking. Some of the workouts had way too many plank moves. I do not mind some but they were overkill for my shoulders so I took them out. Problem solved! I am going to like these workouts. I like they are short so I can mix and match with other workouts.

Deb...I am sorry to hear about your friend. Very sad. I did some of the Pump Party and was really liking it but my husband was up and wanted to go for breakfast. We never do this so I ended my workout to get ready. When I came back I wasn’t feeling weights anymore so I did couple of bounce workouts that incorporate fire loops. Fun. Today I am thinking Boxing Bootcamp and Metabolic Conditioning. Will let you know my thoughts.

Diane Sue...hoping you get a code soon. I remember you had issues last series too and it took forever for you to get the downloads.

Valerie...music really doesn’t bother me. I sometimes do not notice it unless it is really loud. Hoping you can figure out what is going on to make it fluctuate they way they do. Now that would drive me nuts!

Carolyn...i still have our decorations up and usually keep them up thru January sometimes into February. My friends crack up. My family doesn’t care one way or another!! I am seriously considering canceling Live for a bit. I only use it a couple time a month if that. When it first came out I signed on the very first day and used it exclusively.

Judy...I had no issues this morning with the downloads. The process went really quick. 10 degress here! Hate it!!

Have a great day all!!

I just finished my workout and loved it. I did the boxing bootcamp and the metabolic conditioning. I finished off with a cooling bounce from bellicon. Total time was 70 minutes. I loved these 2 workouts. So much fun and they flew by. GiGi was hilarious. While doing deadlifts she was at my feet on her back smiling waiting for a belly rub. By the time I got to the end for the monster walk she sat on my abdomen and completely laid on me licking me to death. Since I had 15lb weights in my hands there wasn’t much I could do other then put them down and give her the love she was demanding!!! Lol! :)

I have Core Max. used to use it exclusively. I remember those seated elevations from #1. Never could do those at all. Good to be reminded of it though. I I like the core segment from High Reps best, but the only way I can find to get to it is to go thru the "chapters" one at a time. tedious process. I don't see a way to get to it another way.

No... 10 degrees would not make me happy. we are 45 and raining. Not great either. I don't miss really cold temps. supposed to clear off tomorrow and be sunny.

I exercised earlier yesterday and was not hungry for lunch. I've been exercising later in the day thinking it didn't matter as long as it got done, and maybe earlier would be better.

My workout is done. I used Build and Burn premixes. I did Build and Burn Cardio Core & Upper Intervals, 33 minutes, heart rate average 127, max 151, 1,904 steps, 217 calories. This one had the cardio core segments with 1 superset for each body part between cardio core and ended with the burn out set. I liked it :D I then followed with the mix upper two which is two sets of the upper body with burn outs. I skipped the warm up so it was 18 minutes, 99 calories, heart rate average 115, max 153. I finished off with Suzanne Bowen Barre Amped Strengthen and Stretch Upper stretch, 13 minutes, 33 calories. Total time was 64 minutes and calories burned 349.
First time through with the 1 set and then second time through with the two sets weights:
Reverse grip press 12's; two sets 12's 12's
lateral raise and extend 8's cardio core ; two sets 8's 8's

pulse curls 12's ; two sets 12's 12's
pledges 12# cardio core ; two sets 15's 15's

seated overhead extension 20#; two sets 20#, 20#
tate press 15's cardio core ; two sets 15's 15;s

reverse grip bench press 15's ; two sets 15's, 15's
connected dumbbell press 15's cardio core; two sets 15's, 15's

seated rows 20's; two sets 15's 15's
standing cross row 20# cardio core; two sets 20#, 20#

burn out with intervals 8# dumbbells with a 15# for rows, burn out with two sets 10# dumbbells throughout

I will come back to post. I need to get my husband and I lunch and get a shower. I am slow today.
