Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 12/17

Today I did Build and Burn Upper Body Supersets. My time was 31 minutes although the actual workout was 26 minutes. I had to rewind a couple of times to get the unfamiliar moves. My average heart rate was 117, maximum heart rate 140, and calories burned 152.

Valerie, I had the same thought about that train going too fast—who was monitoring this? This has been a bad week for transportation starting with the prolonged power outage here at Hartsfield-Jackson airport. That is another situation that should not have happened.

Deb, I have two Christmas trees. We have a small 4 foot tree in the entryway in front of the bannister with garland and the regular tree in the family room. We all love the trees, especially my grandchildren. We don’t have live trees anymore. The trees that we have now are artificial trees with lights. That eliminates the hassle of putting on and removing lights which I hated.

Hello everyone and take care.

where the wreck occurred is between water to the west, and land belonging to Joint Base Lewis McCord( army/ air force) there is a river and a large wildlife area just to the south. apparently the officials in at least one town fought against route because of the speed it would be going thru communities.... tracks are at grade as roads. controlled intersections with crossing arms and lights. 80 mph is very fast to go roaring thru. apparently there is a curve and an overpass where the train derailed, and should have been slowed to 30 mph. It was the first run on the new route so I can't imagine why no one was paying attention to speed... seems very basic!. no one is saying how long the interstate will be closed. think we will be hearing about this for a long time to come. Our news here is "all wreck, all the time " I'm glad I don't need to drive that route anymore except rarely. I used to drive seattle to Portland often.

I did MM chest along with the warm up and then icy core. . I only did three rounds not four but this was too easy with 12. will go to 15 next time. I did extra reps but 12 is too light on this one.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did KCM's B&B Cardio Core. Not a great calorie burn with this one, only 27 minutes.

Valerie, that wreck will take a while to figure out. I also heard it was the first time for that trip/train and that there were politicians on board. It's amazing that there were few fatalities. I also read or heard that the train was going 80 in a 30 mph place. I wonder if it was mechanical, not human error that this happened.

Diane Sue, yes, I think it's Providence that I have. I had heard about The Kettlebell Way, but don't think I have ever seen it.

Carolyn, the trees sound beautiful. We have one with the lights already on and really think that was a great improvement for artificial trees.

Hi to Lori & Judy...

Take care,

Today was Kelly Build and Burn Kettlebell and Lower mix, 37 minutes, 239 calories, heart rate 121 average, max 142, 1,489 steps. This one skips the wide stance deadlift squat up and the bridges. Valerie, nice job on Ice chest work. I would think it will take a while to get the traffic back to moving faster. This is a bad time of year for travel and the accident.

Deb, Providence was my first Art of Strength workout. Yes, that cardio core workout is shorter, but I really do like it. It seems to be the one with the most impact in this series. I like the core involvement.

Today I did Build and Burn Tabata Legs. My time was 29 minutes and 160 calories burned. Average heart rate was 118 and maximum heart rate 155. I didn’t have much time but I felt like I needed a little more. I did a bit of free style jumping on the JumpSport for 12 minutes. I didn’t start the Fitbit so I don’t have stats, but it did increase my workout time. That was my main concern.

This afternoon I am making cinnamon rolls to freeze for Christmas morning. I haven’t done them in a while so I thought it would be a nice surprise for the family.

Good job with the workouts everyone. Have a wonderful afternoon.

Carolyn, I kind of liked the Build and Burn premix today with the kettlebells added to the tabata legs. I got a better calorie burn and felt like it was a good workout on it's own even if I did not do the other workouts. I was taking advantage of my time today. My husband is off for a few days and I am sure we will be working on getting that room finished. My granddaughter stayed here the last two nights so she would be closer to her school for finals and activities. Her and I watched the movie Valarian yesterday afternoon. It is rather an odd movie, corny in some parts, and futuristic.
I bought stuff a while back for cinnamon rolls , but have not made them. I kept thinking family brunch. My recipe came from my grandmother and it makes 36 cinnamon rolls that are much like the Cinnabon rolls. They are huge and gooey. They are something that once I start eating them, I can't stop.

We tried mightily to xc ski this morning and drove all over the place but did not work. snow was awful heavy gloppy stuff and we could not begin to drive uphill in it to get to better conditions. we did not interpret the forecast right and should have gone mt biking down lower. think we will do that tomorrow instead. will end up doing some sort of indoor workout . too icy in the shade to road bike.

I LOVE cinnamon rolls. I make some good ones too. I freeze them as soon as they cool and they reheat beautifully. but there is the "can't leave them alone" factor too.

Hi Everyone,

I ended up taking yesterday as a rest day instead of Monday. Monday night I did WS 3 Total Body and today I did WS3 Metabolic Conditioning and Streamline Sculpt.

Deb-How do you like the B&B Cardio Core? The puppy class sounds like fun!

Valerie- I bet you and your husband put in a lot of miles on your road and mountain bikes. Chris never rides the spinning bike so I know all the miles on the computer are mine.

Diane Sue-I want to try the Kettlebell & Lower Body premix. That sounds like one I would like. Those cinnamon rolls sound so good!

Carolyn-Great job with the B&B workouts!

Lori-I hope things are easing up at work.

Valerie, I hope the mountain biking goes well for you tomorrow. When weather conditions are even remotely not looking good, I refuse to go out of the house. I check the weather before I plan my shopping. Around Oklahoma City area we are more likely to experience icy roads than much snow sticking. We have had a few years with substantial snow, but that is it. When we lived further north in the state we had more snow while the family experienced the ice in this area. I avoid that and flooded roads or tornado type weather when going out. I think our Range Rover we just purchased will be excellent for driving though. My little Spark would probably be like a roller skate out there. It is nice to find I am not the only one that is susceptible to consuming too many cinnamon rolls. Homemade are awesome. Not like the store bought yucky ones.

Judy, I think that the kettlebell moves were planned well with the particular exercises that Kelly did. I will definitely be doing this one more.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday. I went to the DR appointment with my friend and her family. The recent scan showed a reduction in the tumor, but she is not feeling any better, actually feels worse. The Dr said it is more the underlying condition of COPD that is doing this, and said she needs to see her Pulmonologist for respiratory therapy. We also spoke with a dietitian from the hospital that gave her some information on how to build her strength, what to eat, not eat etc. I would think they would do this immediately when diagnosed, but they do not focus on food like I feel they should be. You have to ask to speak with someone.

Diane Sue, I like that premix you mentioned. I think I will try that next time I do one of the KCM's. I think I will try the K-bell one next time with my 15 pound KB.

Carolyn, mmmmm...those cinnamon rolls sound delicious. :)

Valerie, that's too bad that the weather did not cooperate for your XC skiing. I would have to freeze those rolls too, or would be eating them non-stop.

Judy, I like the B&B Cardio Core, but wish it was longer.

Lori, I hope you get some "down time" from work soon.

Take care,

Deb, I am surprised nutrition was not addressed for your friend. So much is out there on nutrition for cancer patients and wwith her other health problems added,I would think it would be a must for recovery of any kind.

Since we mostly drove around all morning I decided to do a light workout later anyway . Used elliptical for 30 min and abs from high reps. I don’t get a reasonable heart rate, numbers bounce all over and don’t display until the workout is almost over. maybe I had the chest strap out of place. I'm working thru the chest straps to see which work and which don't. The machine says I burn 11 calories a minute which seems overly optimistic, but with the arm levers and higher tension, it works pretty much everything.
I separate the cinnamon rolls slightly. then wrap in foil, zip lock freezer bag over. I can get one at a time out for DH, and they don’t dry out in the freezer. I love them but get one bite only. I sure do savor that one bite.

Our anniversary was yesterday. 39 years. Can’t believe it myself.
we were going to mt bike today to make up for yesterday but it's cold and clear this morning and no one is rushing for the door...

I did Build and Burn Kettlebell Kickboxing Fusion this morning. That was 26 minutes and 182 calories burned. Average heart rate 133 and maximum heart rate 154. I also did WS3 1 Mile of Motivation for 15 minutes and 116 calories. Average heart rate for it was 132 and maximum heart rate 147.

The cinnamon rolls are definitely something I only make when we are having a house full of people! There will be eight of us for that breakfast.

Valerie, happy anniversary. It’s amazing how the years get away from you without you realizing it. Congratulations on that.

Deb, I am also surprised that nutrition wasn’t discussed sooner with your friend.

Diane Sue, that premix of lower body and kettlebells sounds good. I wanted to try all of the workouts as stand alones to get a feel for them before doing premixes.

Judy, I haven’t done the WS3 Metabolic Conditioning or Streamline Sculpt yet. I hope to work those in soon. The shorter workouts are working well for me this week since I’ve been so busy.

Hello to Lori.

This morning I did Ice Low Impact Sweat premix workout #1, 29 minutes, heart rate average 123, max 156, 186 calories, 1,700 steps. I then did Build and Burn Trim Down using 8# for the puch out moves and 10's for the rest, 25 minutes, 165 calories, heart rate average 127, max 151, 1,590 steps. I finished off with Kelly's Body Design Yoga, 14 minutes, 36 calories. Total time was 68 minutes, 387 calories.

Valerie, happy belated anniversary. Time does fly by. It has been 44 years for us. I eat more than one bite of cinnamon rolls as I do not make them very often and fully intend to enjoy them :) I just make up for it by a very clean diet for a few days. We have started throwing out things that do not work properly, rather than keep going through pulling the item out and realizing that is the one that does not work.

Carolyn, I just finished my 3rd time of going through Build and Burn. I am going for week 4 next week and I think Cathe's Fit Split will be out by then. I find wrapping and making sure to use freezer bags helps keep baked goods fresh much longer.

Good evening ladies!

So sorry to be out of touch lately, work has been ridiculous and I am exhausted when I get home. I am on vacation starting at 5pm tomorrow and it could not come soon enough. I started with the WS3 rotation again this week. Loved both the Upper and the Lower workouts. I went heavier than she did on both. Been throwing in some SB and BBS. I also am enjoying Lekfit now. I like her bounce workouts but they all have intervals of bounce then sculpt. When I bounce I want to bounce. Don’t want to stop for some sculpting. Most times I have already done my strength before. I now just fast forward thru the sculpt. Brilliant!! :)

Valerie....Happy Anniversary!! 39 years!! That is so nice.

Deb...glad to hear the tumors have reduced. Not sure why they do not focus on nutrition in the beginning. Glad she met with the dietitian. So nice you are there for her.

Carolyn...can you make me some cinamon rolls and mail them to me please? Lol! Love cinamon rolls!

Judy..some nice spin workouts this week. I started with a few spins here and there and once again stopped. I look at my bike everyday. Just need to hop on it.

Diane Sue...some nice workouts as always. Looks like you are enjoying Build and Burn. Hoping we receive FitSplit next soon. Thinking it will late in the week or the week after if we do. :( Been meaning to ask if you have seen any Amy Bento rebounding workouts? She did a few then stopped.

Have a good night all!

Lori, I have not seen anything new from Amy. I check her facebook once in awhile for something. I think it will take them avfewvdays to get the dvds packaged and shipped. Holidays do slow things down. If they get them shipped the downloads should be available pretty quick.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday.

Diane Sue, Wow, 44 years, that is awesome! that is what I have said all along about nutrition but it is so hard to push someone to change their eating habits, ( I know what it is like to try to improve my own eating). especially when they are feeling so horrible. Sometimes she would not eat at all, so anything she ate was better than nothing.

Valerie, Happy Anniversary! I don't think I could ever eat only one bite of a cinnamon roll. :).

Carolyn, what did you think of the K-bell workout?

Lori, just get through today and you will have a nice long weekend. With the holiday the way it falls, I bet they don't work on packaging and shipping until Tuesday,. If they get them today, maybe they could package them and get them out tomorrow, but I don't see Cathe making everyone work on Christmas to package and mail them.

Hi to Judy,

Take care,

Today I did Sharon Twombly Athletic Step Jam step and abs, 83 minutes, 551 calories, heart rate average 135, max 173, 6,915 steps. I think I may be doing some painting on our addition today. Yesterday we went and purchased paint and I came home and stained molding, I will need to stain and varnish the doors to the closet and room. Freezing drizzle in the forcast today. I hope it does not get too bad.

Deb, I remember a listening to a woman's story on the radio who had cancer and going through chemo. She had a male friend that made bone broth and took to her through her recovery. She talked about healiing nourishment. I know it is hard to change diet and much harder when a person is already not feeling well and probably not much desire to eat. You really have went through a lot yourself on trying to adjust your diet.
