Lurkers Invitation For The Holidays

Janie: Glad your vertigo is verti-gone! ;) I know someone who suffered with that for months!

Pam: Cardio X is one of the 12 workouts in P90X. It's not the biggest sweat producer, but good enough for a questionable back day. Come to think of it, none of the P90X workouts produce as much sweat as Cathe's do. :p

Cheryl: My mom, 2 of my brothers and a sister-in-law are all training for the St. Louis Marathon in April of 2011. Mom will actually turn 74 a day or two before the race.

I had a dentist appointment today...2 fillings on the left side, and 2 on the right. My jaw is sore from having it pried open for almost 2 hours! It was my choice to get it all done in one day, though. I love my dentist and her whole all female staff. They get the job done painlessly and with good humor! :)

I had lunch with my parents today, too. Hard to eat with both sides of my mouth still fairly numb, but I did the best I could. They just got back from a visit with one of my sisters in Colorado Springs, so Mom's marathon training will be starting back up on Monday.

Today's early a.m workout went off without a hitch! Disc 2 Back & Triceps. I love working my triceps. :)

Gotta run. Have a wonderful day! :) Helen

Had to share:

Something I've been working on.

I've been keeping my home sourdough starter (LIL) alive for months now, and decided to bake bread from it. Here are a couple of pictures.

393284842.jpg

Used a hot oven, at 450 degrees. I did spray it with water and put the lid on it for the first 20 minutes in the oven. Then finished baking it another 25 minutes. These are really big loaves, and used my own recipe.

393284839.jpg

My crumb has never been this large before. Maybe I'm getting the hang of it. Now to get blisters and a perfect crumb together.

When I took the loaves out of the oven, it snapped, crackled and pop. I love that!

Janie

Did STS Disk 5 Back and Triceps this morning.

Julie Hopefully you aren't coming down with something. Good job on pushing through though. 10/10/10 I haven't done in a long time. I remember doing that series quite a bit a few years back. Sometimes just trying to workout makes you feel better sometimes it doesn't. Glad that you were feeling better by the end.

Pam I have trouble doing the weights and plates abs because my plates don't slide too well on my puzzle mats. I need to get something else because that is a good ab workout. No I missed Cathe's challenge with the Intensity. I doubt very much that I will have the new workouts in my hands quite that fast. Mine always needs to get through customs first so I am not expecting them until some time in December. You know it is always hard to tell what makes his back go out. I could have been the weight work it could have been something totally unrelated. They always complain but never do anything about it. Oh well at least you have your tupperware organized the way you want it :D. Man those pikes on the ball after all the upper body work always do me in.

Janie Glad to hear that your vertigo is gone. That can hang around for a very long time so you are lucky. Janie your bread looks wonderful. Enjoy eating it, I love sourdough bread.

Helen So is the rest of your family getting you inspired to run with them . I have only done 1/2 marathons I never did get up to a full one. That must have been fun trying to eat with both sides of your mouth still numb from the dentist. Drinking can be challenging as well. Doesn't it feel good to workout in the morning and not having to worry about it the rest of the day.

I have tomorrow off due to Remembrance Day so I decided to take Friday off as well. A nice long weekend. I don't know if any of you get tomorrow off where you are but if you do enjoy your day.

Have a great Thursday everyone.

Cheryl

There's no school today because of Veteran's Day, but I got up early to get my HiiT on. Double Wave Pyramid was my choice today. Yikes...There's a lot packed into that 30 minutes!!

Janie: I wish I had a scratch 'n sniff computer monitor! That bread looks wonderful! :)

Cheryl: Every time I turn around, one of my family runners tells me that I should get into running. I've tried on many occasions, but I just don't enjoy it. Maybe when I'm 73. ;)

Time to get on with the day. Good luck to all of you in your workouts today!

Helen

Today I did a 50 minute steady state run and then did some pushups (8, 8, and 15 on my toes, 15 on my knees). Tonight I will be doing CTX Upper Body.

Last night I did something I promised I wouldn’t do for awhile. I ordered the Push/Pull Tower. I had been telling myself to hold off until I could get STS but I saw they had the tower as a featured accessory at 15% off so I ordered it. I am really looking forward to getting the tower and working on pull-ups. I remember trying to do those in gym class and just hanging on to the bar like a limp noodle barely able to bend my elbows at all. Hopefully I can do better now that I am older and wiser!!

Then I went to collage video and ordered High Step Training (HSTA) and Lower Body Blast (LBB). HSTA is coming up in my rotation in early December so I guess I needed that one and I ordered LBB just so I could get the free shipping. I was going to download HSTA but then I remembered downloads don’t come with premixes so I just went ahead and got the DVD. I am still so iffy on downloads. Maybe one day I will enter the techy world!

Oh well, I will have to work on my speech to DH on why I need more workout DVDs and equipment!

Pam Great job on HiiT and weights and plates! Yes my hiney is feeling much better! I really think the secret to pushups is to just do as many as you can and then work on adding one more pushup every couple of days. I still have my ups and downs as far as days when they seem easier (not easy just easier) and days when it is a struggle but I think that is with any exercise. Animals really are smart aren’t they? I am constantly amazed at how smart my dogs can be. I swear sometimes they actually understand what I say. Of course, then there are the times they do something so stupid I can’t help but wonder if they even have a brain!

Janie I am really going to have to try TBS since you seem to do that one a lot it must be really good! No nausea today so I think it was just something I ate the night before that my tummy didn’t like. Not sure if avocados go bad but the one I had the night before my nausea was already turning brown when I cut it open. Of course, I ate some of it anyway so maybe that is what did it. Your bread looks absolutely delicious! Bread is a big weakness of mine so both those loaves would probably be devoured by now if they were in my house!

Cheryl Great job on STS! I really think the nausea was just from something I ate because I am feeling fine today. I have to work today as my company doesn’t give many days off during the year. We only get 6 days off a year for holidays. I swear that is the least amount any company gives but I won’t complain too much since at least I have a job and it is pretty good to me! Enjoy your nice long weekend and try not to think about us working too much! ;)

Helen Enjoy your day off. HiiT DWP is a doozy. I really think that one is the hardest of the 3. Good for you for still getting up early to get your workout in and done with. I like to do that on the weekends/days off too. Well I don’t get up at 3 on the weekends to workout! I do sleep in until 6 and then workout but it is so nice to have it done with so I can use the rest of the day to run errands or clean the house or just relax. I am iffy on running. Some days I dread doing it if it is in my rotation but other times I can get into it. I have never run any races and am not sure I would ever want to run a marathon. I just can’t see the point for running for 5+ hours on one day. I did a little less than an hour today and was happy to be done with it! :D

Enjoy your Thursday everyone!

Julie I missed your post yesterday because I started mine at 9 or so but then didn't get back to finish it until after 11:00. Good job on your workouts, especially when you were feeling nauseous. I do find that sometimes when I'm not feeling well working out makes me feel better. Of course sometimes it has just the opposite effect......

Janie Glad to hear you got a beautiful day yesterday and I hope you were able to get out there and enjoy it. We have been having really pretty weather lately. It is not helping me to be enthusiastic about my trip north tomorrow! I'm also glad to hear that you vertigo was just a short term issue. Thank goodness!
Your bread looks SOOOO good, I can smell it from here!

Helen I guess I should've guessed that Cardio X was part of P90X. I've never tried those, but after trying insanity I don't have an urge to get them either. I've heard that they are much more focused on weights though.
Wow, all female staff at the dentist, that sounds interesting, very cool! It doesn't sound like much fun trying to eat after that dental work though!
I am with you, I just don't enjoy running! I have tried but I just don't. Luckily I have Cathe though to get my hard core workouts in!

Cheryl I don't have paper plates that will slide on my carpet but I have found that the tops from some of our board games slide really well so that's what I use. They are kind've big and have sides so sometimes they bang into each other, but for the most part they work pretty well. I would be interested in some of those sliding disks though if they will work on carpet. It is a really good ab workout,
I hadn't thought about the Custom's delay in shipping. Bummer, but the good news is that they will be shipping soon. I'm really excited about having some new workouts! I hope you enjoy your long weekend! I'm about to be off work for 2 weeks between taking my mom up north and then having DHs whole family here for Thanksgiving. I think I will need a vacation from my 'vacation'!

Helen Great job getting up early and HiiTing it even when you knew you wouldn't be called to work! I have DWP on my schedule for tomorrow morning. I remember when I first got the new workouts and I wasn't hip to the whole HiiT concept. 40/20 was the first one that I tried and I was disappointed that they were only 30 minutes long! Little did I know! At the end I was VERY happy that it was only 30 minutes long. That was the closest I have ever come to throwing up while working out! :p They really get the job done!

Julie Did you run outside or do you have a treadmill? I was suppoesd to run, but since I don't like to and I wasn't excited about running outside in the dark I subbed Ahtletic step instead.
Wow, sounds like Christmas will be coming early to your house! I have been wanting the STS tower and I put it on my Christmas wish list. I would really like to be able to work up to doing some pullups! I Lower Body Blast one of Cathe's workouts? I haven't heard of it (or is it one of the new ones?!) I have downloaded some of the workouts but also prefer having the dvds. I am looking forward to trying out the workout blender with my downloads though! It may make up for the no pre-mix issue.
Pushups still seem to be a struggle every day for me, and some days are an even bigger struggle! :p
I'm not sure I would call my cats smart, but they are definitely creatures of habit! My cats aren't even smart enough to figure out that if there is a door that is open a crack that they can push it open. They will sit there by a door like that and wait for someone to come and open it. DH tried to teach my cat to use a cat door by putting it on a box and then putting the cat in the box. He would sit in that closed box until someone let him out. Very pathetic!
Your company isn't the only one - we are working today too. We get either 5-5 holidays a year and then 6-7 personal choice holidays for a total of 12 every year. We don't get time off at Easter or days like Veteran's day, Presidents day, etc.

As I mentioned, I was supposed to do a 45 minute steady state run so I subbed in Athletic step. It was way more fun! Then I did my bonus burn and plan to do the upper body work from BM2 tonight. Tomorrow will be DWP and one of the ab circuit workouts and then 14 hours in the car. I will probably not be posting before I leave and I'm not sure if I'll be able to while I'm gone, so if not, wish me luck and everyone keep up the great work on your workouts! Have a great Thursday!

Pam

Pam Your story about your cats actually made me laugh out loud. I got some pretty weird looks from my co-worker who walked by. Your cats remind me of Oscar (our boxer). He will not push doors open. He just stands their staring at the door as if it will magically open without him having to touch it. Now Maggie (our pit/lab mix) will barrel through the doors without a thought to who might be standing right on the other side. I have actually gotten some pretty hard head knocks from her!! She also uses her snout to open doors from the other direction if it is not closed all the way. Crazy pets!

Good luck with your trip to ON! I'll be hoping and praying everything goes smoothly for you!

This morning was Cardio Core Circut (CCC). Wow but that is a tough workout. After that I got busy with some housework and cleaning carpets. I am pooped now.

Helen Double Wave Pyramid is my favorite HiiT workout. There is a lot packed into the 30 minutes isn't there. I think with running you either love it or hate it. I did love it but my back didn't so I stopped.

Julie Good job on the steady state run and your pushups. Oooooh the Push/Pull Tower, I want it too. You will like High Step Training another one where it is jam packed and you won't get bored. Six stats a year isn't much but it is a good trade off if you enjoy where you work. I'll try not to think about you working too much :D.

Pam I would like to get some of those sliding disks too. With the puzzle mats it is hard to get something that will slide easily on it. It seems to take about three weeks for me to get the DVDs. I just sit here an patiently wait. I hope everything goes smoothly in Ontario. I have no idea what the weather is like there but it is getting colder. Hopefully it won't snow.

Have a great Friday everyone.

Cheryl

Well, it's over. I tried walking in the wood with Rolly, and there are so many puddles that we can't cross over. That's it until they are dried up. Rolly has been really good lately about going potty outside. He hasn't been on a leash all week. He goes on his own and with my gentle reminders.

Joey and I did TBS using heavy weight. Also did abs from "All Abs" and a ball stretch from Cathe. It was wonderful.

Have a great Thursday everyone.

Cheryl, Great job on STS back and triceps yesterday. You did great on CCC. Well done. Enjoy your days off and have fun.

Helen, Great job on Hiit DWP. I love that one.

Julie, Great job on your exercises today, very impressive. You are going to love the push pull tower. So many exercises can be done with that. You'll be doing pull-ups in no time at all.

Looks like you did a lot of Christmas shopping. Good for you. You'll be busy with those new wonderful workouts.

I have to justify anything I purchase to my hubby, but it's easy to do. Except Cathe, he knows, no matter what I will purchase them, always.LOL:D

TBS is a beginners workout of Cathe's, but when Joey and I use heavy weight, it's more like a high end intermediate for us. He loves that one!

It does sound like you may have been in contact with a little food poisoning. It happens from time to time.

Pam, Try to enjoy your trip North tomorrow even if it's 14 hours in the car. Be safe. Great job on Athletic Step and bonus burn. Well done.

Have a great rest of the day everyone,

Janie

I did Imax 2 today and a segment from Ab Hits (can’t remember which one). I also did some pushups. Last night I did Croxx Train Xpress (CTX) Upper Body Split. It was tough while I was doing it and even had to have DH spot me on the tricep bench press (and still couldn’t eek out the last 4)! Even though it was so tough, I really am not that sore today. At least not in the places I thought I would be. My forearms are sore but nothing else really. Weird! I know DOMS don’t mean anything but they make me feel warm and fuzzy about my workouts!

Pam I have a treadmill which makes it easier for me to want to run in the fall and winter months! Earlier in September and October I was running at 3:30 in the morning in pitch dark. Luckily I live in a town of 400 in the middle of corn and soybean fields so there isn’t much traffic or other dangers to worry about. Lower Body Blast is one of Cathe’s new ones coming out in a week. I love Butts & Guts and I am guessing this is along the same lines so I am very excited. Good luck in ON! Hope the weather is decent for you!

Cheryl Great job on CCC! That one is a doozy but goodie! I have to modify the rollback moves but maybe one day I will get there! I just cleaned my carpets a few weeks ago. Actually DH ran the cleaner and I just helped supervise! I do like where I work and am happy to just have a job at all so I try not to complain. It is just that human nature of wanting more than you got!

Janie Great job on Total Body Sculpting (TBS) and ab work! I desperately need a stretch. I promised myself I would try to work one Stretch Max routine in a week and have failed miserably. Maybe sometime this weekend. So sorry you will not be able to walk with Rolly outside anymore! That is great that he has been good about going outside to potty! Ok, I give up, what does the formula in your signature mean?

Hope everyone has a wonderful Friday!

We have a driveway that goes around the house. Rolly and I did our best to keep going around for a certain amount of time. When I got tired of one way then we went the other, for a change. Managed to do this for 30 min. Not easy, it was very boring.

Julie, CTX workouts are great aren't they (a challenge for sure)? DOMS aren't always present, but that doesn't mean you didn't do a good job. Sounds like you are gaining muscle. Great job on IMAX II and ab work today. Also the push ups. How many did you do? You should feel really warm fuzzies about the workouts you did, you were awesome.;)

Drakes equation for communicative civilizations in our Milky Way.

  • N = The number of communicative civilizations
  • R* = The rate of formation of suitable stars (stars such as our Sun)
  • fp = The fraction of those stars with planets. (Current evidence indicates that planetary systems may be common for stars like the Sun.)
  • ne = The number of Earth-like worlds per planetary system
  • fl = The fraction of those Earth-like planets where life actually develops
  • fi = The fraction of life sites where intelligence develops
  • fc = The fraction of communicative planets (those on which electromagnetic communications technology develops)
  • L = The "lifetime" of communicating civilizations
Frank Drake's own current solution to the Drake Equation estimates 10,000 communicative civilizations in the Milky Way. Dr. Drake, who serves on the SETI League's advisory board, has personally endorsed SETI's planned all-sky survey.
(from QST, August 1995, page 38) The famous Drake Equation, which proports to estimate the number of communicative civilizations in the Galaxy, was actually the agenda for the world's first SETI meeting in 1961. This plaque now graces the very wall of the room at NRAO Green Bank, WV which once held the blackboard on which the equation was first written. SETI League photo

I love the thought that we may not be alone in space. It is a controversial equation by few. The equation can be worked out in so many different ways. For example Carl Sagan:

Carl Sagan Explains the Drake Equation

or

SETI: The Drake Equation

Have a good one,

Janie

Did STS Disk 6 Legs this morning. Cleaned more carpets today as well. I am so happy it is now done. Now I hope the cats will not leave me any gifts for awhile. I would like to enjoy clean carpets for a bit. Well winter must be on its way, I heard on the radio today that Whistler Mountain in opening for ski season next weekend and Blackcomb Mountain the week after that. The local mountains around here have snow on them so our local ski hills probably won't be far behind in opening either.

Janie Too bad that you can't walk Rolly in the woods now. It doesn't sound like it is going to get dry around here for a while. I am glad to hear that he is doing good with going potty outside and not on the carpet. At least you can use the driveway for your walks even if it is boring.

Julie Good job on Imax 2 and CTX Upper Body Split. I don't always get DOMS either after a hard workout. That doesn't mean that you didn't work your upper body hard, but I know what you mean about it makes you feel warm and fuzzy. I can do some of the roll back moves in CCC but not all of them. I am better than when I first did it but I do have a ways to go.

Have a great Saturday.

Cheryl

I did HiiT DWP and a 60 min. brisk walk with some hills (on the treadmill) this morning. I haven't done HiiT in so long. I was breathing so hard my DH woke up and asked if I was going to make it! I was actually able to breath out a "yea".

Janie It would have to be boring to walk around the driveway over and over again but you do get some outside time and I am sure Rolly appreciates it. I had a headache before I even knew how much brain power went into that formula! It blows my mind that there are humans here in Earth capable of thinking up formulas like that let alone that there might be life outside of this planet!

Cheryl Good job with STS and Carpet Max! I bet your carpets look beautiful. It is a shame pets just don't understand that we want our carpets (and furniture) to stay clean. They probably think they are helping us out by dirtying them up!

Enjoy your weekend everyone!

Did MMA Kickbox this morning followed by my mammogram and grocery shopping. Glad that both the mammogram and shopping are done.

Julie Good job on your cardio this morning. I have DWP for Tuesday morning. That is my favorite of the three. The HiiT workouts can be deceiving when you look at how long they are but when you are doing them you are very glad that they are short. I like the name carpet max. That is hard work when you have to move all of the furniture as well. The carpets are old so they don't look beautiful but they do look cleaner. I want to get laminate flooring so my cats gifts are much easier to clean up. However I can't afford that yet.

Enjoy the weekend.

Cheryl

Rest day today. Rolly is very short haired and gets cold really easy, so I'm thinking about making him a sweater or a coat or both. Looking on line to see some free patterns. He most likely won't like it at first, but I think he will get use to it. It's also a cleaning day.

Having luck with the neighbor dogs. They come in now expecting treats with waggy tails and shifting there bodies from side to side like they are excited to see me. Can't seem to get the other dog on my side yet though. He/she keeps his distance and barks. One day we'll be friends. The Mastiff is one big honey (so far) all she does is slimes and is still a little weary. The pit bull is a gem. She is so friendly, sweet and is the most likable of the three. You can see she is an older dog for all the gray hair on her. Who would have guessed that I'd have new friends. Hmmmmm:) We are getting used to each other. Thank you all for encouraging me to do this. It's working.

Haven't got Rolly and the dogs together yet. Still frightened for Rolly.

Cheryl, Great job on the STS legs yesterday and MMA Kick Box today. Snow skiing already? I look outside at the Olympic mountains and there is a lot of snow on it now. Should think about getting my snowshoes out.:)

Julie, Great job on the Hiit DWP and an hour of treadmill. Wow, sounds like you were doing anaerobic. Well done.

Have a great Sunday,

Janie

Went to yoga this morning and then came back and made butter tarts .

Janie I am happy to hear that you are making friends with the dogs. It is amazing what treats can do. The other dog will make friends in their own time. But at least the other two are happy to see you. Yep snow skiing. Whistler is opening earlier this year than other years since they already have a really good base. Snowshoeing would be a really good workout.

Hope everyone else is having a good weekend. Have a great Monday everyone.

Cheryl

Well I slept in today! It felt really nice. I have Muscle Max on schedule for tonight when I get home. I was originally going to get up early today and get on the treadmill for 45 minutes but decided I wanted to sleep instead.

Cheryl Good job with MMA Kickbox. I can’t wait to get that one. I just kickboxing workouts! DH and I want to replace our carpet with either laminate or hardwood flooring too but that will be a long time before it can happen financially!

Janie That is so great that the dogs are being friendly and actually look forward to seeing you! Despite how scary they look, big dogs really can be big babies and sweeties just like little dogs! I am sure the other dog will come around in time. You’ll have to attach some picture of Rolly in his sweater when you get it made. I bet he will look adorable!

Well I have to get to work now. I came in early so I can leave early this afternoon and I have a lot on my to do list!

Have a wonderful Monday everyone!

I had a very quiet weekend. My husband was deer hunting with all three of our kids. Saturday was my 47th birthday and I spent it watching movies and doing a little light house work. That was, of course, AFTER I did STS Disc 3 Legs.:) I always view my birthday and sort of my own personal New Year's Day. I look back on the previous year, and look forward to the year that's ahead of me. I've made some promises to myself for my 48th year. :) Oh, and I ordered STS Total Body and Ab Circuits as a birthday present to myself. :)

This morning's workout was Disc 4 Chest, Shoulders, & Biceps. Love it, love it, love it.

Janie: I'm glad you're making friends with the dogs.

Cheryl: I like MMA Kickbox, too, although I've done the Boxing workout more often with my two left feet.

Hello to everyone else. Have a great Monday!

Helen

Joey and I did Supersets and Rolly and I walked the driveway for awhile.

Cheryl, What are butter tarts? Maybe I don't want to know, I just may bake them. LOL:rolleyes: Great job on your yoga. Haven't seen the dogs lately. Must be too rainy.

Julie, I think you are right. These big dogs do look scary, but it seems we are getting use to each other. Haven't seen them around in a couple of days. As soon as I make Rolly's outerwear, you can be sure there will be pictures. Now to try and find the time to do it. Listen to your body, you may have needed the extra rest by sleeping in.

Helen, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to Helen, Happy Birthday to you. And many more. You nut, why didn't you tell us when your birthday was. Hope it was good. Great job on all the exercises you did yesterday and today. You are going to love STS Total Body I bet. (I can't wait for it myself, should be around the 19 when they send the new DVD's out) and ab circuits.

Take care everyone,

Janie

Did STS Disk 7 Chest Shoulders and Biceps this morning.

Julie Nice to be able to sleep in. Did you get Muscle Max in when you got home tonight? I like MMA Kickbox but there is one routine that they do that I just can't get . I don't know what it is but I haven't been able to figure it out yet.

Helen Your family left you all alone for your birthday!!!!! Happy birthday to you and what a way to bring it in with STS Disk 3 Legs . I hope you enjoyed your birthday even if it was quite and I like your birthday present to yourself.

Janie Butter tarts are so good but I only make them at Christmas. They are tarts filled with brown suger, butter and raisins. Yummy, but I was good and didn't have any, DH had three of them and I put the rest in the deep freeze. It has been quite rainy here too. They are talking about snow around here.........time to get those snow tires on.

Pam I hope all is going well in Ontario.

Have a great Tuesday everyone.

Cheryl
