Lurker Invitations Aug, 2009

Hi all, still racing to get caught up with work after having played outside most of the weekend - but wanted to pop in and at least say hello! I did take time off yesterday to ride one horse. We started out at dusk, much later than usual, and so I chose my steady quarterhorse. We enjoyed a gallop full blast up hill, since it was cooler and there was (barely) light enough. We also went into the woods. The woods feel different in the dark: the trees kind of loom over you, and there are more animal noises. And there was a full moon ... Many excuses for a horse to shy - but Atreides was a very good boy! I think he enjoyed being out as much as I did; it has to be a little boring for a horse to stay in the same place all day, even when the area is a nice big seven acre pasture with two companions. Kind of exciting for him to smell new things, and see over the hills, and then to get urged on to the fastest gallop he can do (for a short while). Anyway, he enjoyed it. We didn't see moose this time. Just as well - I didn't want to have to deal with them in the twilight :)

Busy day going one and I'm really feeling my workouts this week. This morning I did Power Hour which I used to get through pretty well, but I've gotten used to heavier weights at a slower pace, so I felt a bit out of synch. I realize that weights at a faster pace means lower amounts, but it feels like cheating (even though Cathe is using lower weights and my quads and glutes are screaming). I do love those bicycles during the ab work.

Shadowpup: you make horsebacking riding sound so relaxing and serene. Not that I'm ready to jump on a horse--

Laura: I'm looking forward (I think) to IMAX 2 tomorrow. I'm going to preview it tonight. I'll let you know how it goes.

Hi to Janie and Ironlady.

Hello-

I WORKED OUT!! I did Kelly Coffey-Meyer workout "Complete Cardio Sculpting" - I never considered this very tough so that was one reason I decided to do it. I actually found it harder now than I had - but I feel like I've lost strength and cardio capacity in these last couple of weeks. It was a wonderful normal day for me - and I was careful with my back and modified the workout.

Not sure what I'll do today.

Laura - Monica (sister) does do my hair - a perk I have to say. It turned out fine. When she finished I blew it dry and my hair has a little bit of a curl - so it was slightly curly when it was done. My DH said it looked nice. The next day when I got ready for work I used a flattening iron (I always do - Let's just say my hair behaves better if I do that) - DH asked why I took out all the curls Monica had put in there! He said it looks like I slept on it. I can't wear my hair like he wants me too - then I won't like how it looks!!

I bought some shoes!!! :D They opened up a Ross by me - always wondered what kind of store this was - people on the forum have mentioned Ross - turns out - it is just like a T.J. Maxx or Marshalls - but I found it slightly better. They are cute black patent leather slingbacks w/ 2 buckles and a very, very, pointy toe. I loved them the second they were on - so I had to have them. I didn't wear them today as I have been babying the back with flats lately.

Shadowpup - woods in the dark? I love the outdoors - but I haven't been out in the woods after dark in a long while. I suppose I'm getting old. Your horse sounds like an angel though. I think that I would just adore haveing a horse if I could.

Janie - did you get to fish today? what does it mean to have a bubble on the trailer? What cardio did you do?

Did everyone hear about the shooting here in Pittsburgh at an LA Fitness gym? :( A guy from my office was working out there when it happened and the receptionist knows a woman who got shot. This guy's blog sounded so sad to me - like he was just so sad and alone and lost. This is a very good reason to work out at home I think.

Hi to everyone - have a great day.

Well - got to go - hi to everyone. Hope you had a great day!!:)

Shadowpup -

I think you have everyone's support here on the purchase of that workout!!! Besides, it only makes sense to take advantage of the sale.

Hi Guys,

Did Disc 26 Plyo Legs. Wooooooo!

Have to run to the store, we're having company tomorrow. Will be back later for personals.

Janie

Hi Everyone! I had my pilates class this morning we did some fun arm work with the thera-band. On my calendar was Cardio only Premix from Low Impact Circuit. Even though I am still tired and low energy, but still not sick, I decided to do it. It was tough, so hard to workout when your energy is low,but hey I got it done. It is 48 1/2 minutes long which is almost as long as most of Cathe's step routines. I don't know why I am dragging, but I am tired of and thought I may as well bang it out, I might just sweat out what is ailing me or get myself sick, either would be better than this in between stage!
Janie: to bad about the trailer! Hope you get out on that boat soon, fishing sounds so relaxing. What did you do for cardio? Your weights sure are impressive!
Laura, Very proud of you for hanging in there and getting your workout done. I don't know how you do it with class and all. Hopefully you don't get sick.
Today on the rotation is a 45 minute run. I'm not a runner so I substituted Step Blast (all 55 sweat filled minutes). I'm definitely feeling my quad and glute muscles today after yesterday's workout with MIS. MIS is on the Powerhour dvd--and power hour just happens to be up next tomorrow. IMAX 2 is on Thursday and I've never done that one--so something new to look forward to. I hope I survive.
Janie: your weight amounts look impressive to me. Can't believe you are 5 pounds off. Wow!
My sister is coming to visit this Thursday through the weekend. I'm so excited, but my poor DH is going to be overwhelmed with exercise talk.
~michelle
Michelle, Great workouts the last couple of days. You are going to love IMAX2. It is challenging. Yes, only 5#'s off. Amazing for me too.:D Just have your hubby join in with exercise talk. He may have something to contribute, who knows.

Hi to Janie and Ironlady.
~michelle
Michelle, Sounds like a good workout to me. Especially with heavier weight.;)
Uh oh ... today's special is a Cathe DVD I need/don't have/really want!!!!
Deborah, You should get it, oh yes.

Shoegal, Can't believe you did a workout. Glad you are feeling better. Love, Love Ross, your shoes sound wonderful.;) We did fish today, and no bites at all, but had a great time. A bubble on the tire, it was about to blow, so we went home. I did a treadmill for 45 min. yesterday. It was sweaty, a good sign.

Shadowpup -
I think you have everyone's support here on the purchase of that workout!!! Besides, it only makes sense to take advantage of the sale.

IMAX 2 this morning ladies. Did pretty good through the 7th interval and blast and then I started feeling it. My legs were already feeling it from MIS and Power Hour--oh boy. But I'm thinking that this workout could really grow on me. I agree Laura, it's a good one and Cathe is very motivating on this dvd.

Janie: how are your legs feeling? Wow, that looks like a really tough workout. Meso 3? Eesch!

Shadowpup: I previewed Cardio Kicks and Circuit Max on Cathe.com and I just can't get too excited about this dvd. But, give it a go and let us know how you like it.

Shoegal: I immediately thought of you when I heard about the shooting in Pittsburgh. Glad that you are safe and sound, but how horrible. Fitness centers are all about health and living, not death. It's just all so wrong and sad.

Last night I did the Leg Blast premix from B&Gs. OMG!!! I had never done it before - blasted is how I feel now - it was unbelievable. It started out with a little message which said to warm up using large leg exercises for 5 minutes. I was a little shocked - What??! I had already got out my ball - I was sure I was going to need it - nope. So I did that - then on to walking lunges - leg presses - walking lunges again - squat/lunge combo - walking lunges again - leg presses again - firewalkers - walking lunges (yes again!!!!) - squat/lunge combo again - firewalkers AGAIN!! - walking lunges again - we must have done those walking lunges 8 times - no joke - no exaggeration. I am indeed sore. Lots of DOMS. Wow - who else has done this?

MIchelle - have you done that premix??? I actually thought of you when I was working out. I know you do B&G alot and thought maybe I didn't remember your impression of it. Good job on IMAX 2 - yep it is a really good workout.

Janie - good job on your workout - that sounded even more difficult than my work out - really gets the blood going.

Shadowpup - I am not a kickbox person as you know - so I bought Cardio Kicks/ Circuit Max for the Circuit workout since I'm a big fan of those types of workouts - but it wasn't what I was expecting. I did the Circuit Max workout once - and couldn't make it through Cardio Kicks because it isn't my cup of tea. Maybe I'll pull that out again but if you got it I'd like to hear what you think too.

Gee I wish Cathe had her travel workout out so I can take it with me - I am trying to think of a good workout to bring. Not too many weights or equipment. Or I could just go running - I did that last time.

Hi again to everyone. Hope your day was a good one.

Shoegal, I loved your description of BG's premix. I had such a similar reaction! When I did it the first time, it started out okay. But those walking lunges, then squats, and firewalkers just kept coming and coming! I began to think that I had a defective DVD, one with an infinite loop and I was eventually going to die after my legs fell off. More firewalkers! More lunges! Over and over! Has to be a broken DVD! Finally, I paused the dvd and used the fast forward to see if it ever would end :eek::eek: Turns out I was pretty close, so I backed up and finished the thing.

I've done that one a time or two since, but it always feels like I've been sent to the Twilight Zone of lunge-firewalker-squats and will never be allowed to do any other form of exercise again. Most of BG, though, I love.

All, I am really close to getting my workload back in balance. It is just taking very long hours. I'm getting a short cardio, a hike, and (except for tonight, because we are experiencing a thunderstorm) a short ride. And besides eating and a little bit of sleep, the rest is work.

Seeing that not everyone loves the Circuit style makes me want to check out the preview ... maybe I should hold off til the next one. But, maybe I should just get it. Oh, decisions!

Janie, what a great workout! I glanced at the posts this week, and you've been doing a really good job :) :) :) Do you find those plate exercises tough? I have to be very careful not to overstrain on that - I don't use very much weight with them.

Laura, it's always inspiring to see how well you do even when you're tired. How you manage to teach fitness all day and then do your own workout in addition, I just don't know!

Michelle, IMAX2 is one of the steps I really like. I have two left feet, so it took awhile to learn. But it is a lot of fun. I especially like the first few, and the last few. Something about the music and the moves just feels happy, doesn't it?

Jeez, take a day off and soooo much good stuff is going on, GREAT WORKOUTS EVERYONE!
So yesterday I ended taking off, I had a super busy day, starting with a private client at 9am than off to Boulder for the day, rush back for a client at 6:30, have to have dinner done first for the kids, I thought about working out after my client, but had to get the kids to bed and I just decided to take the day off. I had been feeling run down and when I went over my Workout Manager Calendar (love it) I saw I hadn't had a day off in awhile. I was going hard and strong since I did have a few more rest days earlier in the Month while in Atlanta and then Aspen. But I ended up feeling a lot better today.

I taught my class this morning and then I did the GS C&T that had been on the schedule for yesterday and also squeezed in the cardio only portion of 4DS Lower Intensity Step. It felt great to have my energy back, such a difference!

Shadowpup: so you are working from home this week? Love your rides, you make me want to ride. My girls take lessons, as I did as a kid, but I don't ride anymore. It would be a great place to ride up here. My DH grew up with horses, his mother still breeds thorough breeds for racing and his sister was dosage champion of GA pretty much for her showing days, she also still has horses but boards them. Anyway he thinks they are way to much work to have around. He some how ended up with the not so fun part of horses being his responsibility while his mom and sister had all the fun with them! In otherwords he had to feed them and clean their stalls but never really rode them. Weird dynamic which unfortunately left him with a bad taste of horses so clearly we won't be having them on our property!

Shoegal: I have heard of that premix but haven't done it yet although I will be soon. Next week I am doing a two week rotation with B&G and that rotation is a part of it so I will have a better understanding of your pain! It does sound rather gruesome though, I liked Shadowpup's description of a twilight zone episode!

Michelle: well it seem unanimous that Imax 2 is a favorite! Glad you did it! Yes that rotations sounds killer, and that is what I like about rotations, is that they tend to be put together with such thought that they really help to a.) really keep you on track meaning I tend to do a workout in a rotation regardless if I am tired, well because it is part of the rotation and I don't want to miss it. b.}they really seem to help increase my fitness levels and break through plateaus. I can tend to get in such a rut otherwise if I am not careful with the DVD's I choose. But you have to be careful because they can be such an enabler for buying every DVD Cathe ever made!!

Janie: My legs hurt just looking at your list! Yikes! Maybe I don't want STS after all! LOL!

Good morning everyone. Today is a break day even though ME is on the August rotation. I'm thinking I might take the workouts I miss on the August rotation and do them the last week of the month instead of STS. I haven't done ME yet--so that would be another new workout which is always fun.

Shoegal: have you left for the beach yet? I haven't done the particular premix on B&G that you mention. Leg presses? The regular workout doesn't have leg presses. That must be from the bonus section which I also have not done. Sounds like a challenge.

Laura: all that exercise. Don't know how you do it. My sister is visiting this weekend. She has gotten into hiking this summer and is really enjoy it.

Shadowpup: well, the nice thing about Cathe is that she provides so much variety. I prefer step workouts to the kickboxing but I've been working on that this summer with Kick Max. I saw a thread on the DVD forum discussing Cardio Kicks and Circuit Max and folks seemed to like it. I have just about every Cathe dvd execpt Cardio Kicks, The Terminator, and Drill Max. Okay--and moment of truth I broke down last month and bought STS. Sister did too. But we are still waiting until January 1 to start it.

Speaking of sister: she is here visiting.:) Got some chores to do this morning and then we are going to putz around on the dinghy. It is first free Friday at the Marine Museum, so we are probably going to go to the museum later on too. Tomorrow will be bike riding.

Hope everyone has a great day. We've got one day of glorious weather here in the mid-Atlantic then the Hot-humd weather returns.

Hurray, Michelle, for you and sister! Very neat that you have both joined the STS-enabled :)

I'm thinking I will do another round of STS starting in December or thereabouts; we'll be overlapping. But I need to get through Meso 3 first.

Speaking of Meso3, I was going to take a full two weeks off between mesocycles. But maybe that is overkill. My legs still feel a bit tired but my upper body is bored with cardio. I've been playing with a few older cardio workouts, and that's been interesting, but most are not up to Cathe standards. The STS level of intensity has really spoiled me, entirely. Last night, after posting here, I pulled out an older Jillian dvd (kickboxing) to see how it felt and to get upper body movement in - a circuit style approach. It was just plain too easy. Halfway through the workout, I realied Jillian is telling her crew not to give up and I'm wondering when we'll get done with the warmups . I doubled the jumping jack speed and so on, but it still wasn't much. So, I added KPC on as another half hour, and put on my weighted vest. Still seemed too easy, especially the stretch in the middle, but at least it was Cathe and the combination was a moderately ok workout. Jillian's Burn Fat/Build Metabolism, which I squeezed in yesterday since it is short, is better. BFBM exercises are the kind that you can easily intensify so as to hit your own level, which I like.

Shadowpup - YES!! I thought my DVD was defective too!!! I kept thinking - this can't be right - there has to be something wrong that it keeps skipping back to what I had just finished - around again and again - lunges, squats, leg presses!! :p

Laura - Yep - you are a wonder - you know when I taught aerobics classes - I never did my own workout later - I am amazed that you do but I think you are right to do it because I don't think my workouts were as hard as Cathe's!! I'm glad you are feeling better. I'm the same way with rotations - I do the workout anyway if I'm tired because I don't want to miss.

Michelle - Congratulations on STS. That's super that both you & your sister have it now. It does seem that you have to plan & schedule and make some preparations for STS - that, I think, is what has me stopped - I don't want to start and have something prevent me from doing the workout planned and I want to do it as intended to get the most out of it. But I think - as evident by other's experiences - this will inevitably happen - so I just need to get over it and adjust. Enjoy your visit with your sister!

No - not at the beach yet - but I will be leaving this evening - really tomorrow early early morning. I am looking forward to it. I haven't packed but I figured that I would do that tonight while DH is at his reunion. What's to pack though - I don't need anything but a swimsuit - opps and some weights.

I have been all on edge yearning terribly for a new workout - I usually am all excited about a new one when it comes and I was thinking I ought to treat myself - so I have just purchased Pure Strength and Slow & Heavy. Too bad I won't get those before I leave but what a joy it will be to have them when I get back!!

Last night I did some abs - it was my sister in law's birthday and we went out to dinner to celebrate - I had every intention of working out well - but there were so many other things going on - I put on an ab tape and worked on them for ten minutes - it was something - and it was better than nothing I thought.

Well - I have to go - I have lots to do - so if I'll be away and unavailable so I'll see you when I get back.

Hi to everyone that follows - Janie - Ironlady!!

Laura, your day sounds packed! Thanks for mentioning the new workout calendar. I have not looked at it in quite awhile - I've been posting my daily workouts over on SP instead - but it's probably time to check out the new features. Those break days really are important; and I guess for you, especially hard to fit in, since your work is also physical.

If I could change one thing about my schedule, it would be to find a way to take lessons in things again. I loved riding lessons; the extra discipline of an instructor really helps. While I work on my skillset, it's not the main focus of my rides any long. It's great that your girls take lessons ... I started in graduate school, believe it or not :), but collected model horses and all manner of horse related artifacts since birth (really!). DH has a point about the work. If you aren't enjoying being with the animal, it could seem like drudgery. Our home pastures and barns are set up to minimize care time, and of course NOW the shovelling and hay-bale carrying so on gets recorded by me as either cardio (moving big piles is a major calorie burner!) or a way to set personal bests (as with bale lifting), making it more fun than it used to be. And also - they are, as you've all noticed, part of my family. The absolute hardest part of cleaning out the barn this year was when I did Robin's stall, in May, when she would have just turned 30. Normally when I do that one I have to set a barrier up to keep her out! She would poke her nose in around the corner, then kind of slip her big (twelve hundred pound) body in when I was out with a load of manure, and there she'd be, wanting a neck rub or forehead scratched. It more than tripled the time to do the stall. This year, I moved the boys to a different pasture and did the stall without equine 'help'. Finished lickety split (well, three hours, having put it off far too long). I was in tears most of the time. Anyway.
It sounds like your DH's family was right at the top! Georgia has wonderful horse facilities from what I've seen. Was it dressage his sister did? She must have been outstanding to win in that field, in that state.

My daughter and one of my grandsons came over for a visit, and was not able to do personals. Had a great time with them. Will be doing Meso 3 disc 27. Will show more details later after I'm done.

Jeez, take a day off and soooo much good stuff is going on, GREAT WORKOUTS EVERYONE!

Janie: My legs hurt just looking at your list! Yikes! Maybe I don't want STS after all! LOL!
Laura, Hope you had a great day off. You seemed to have needed it. So glad you have your energy back, and it's doing you good. I feel everyone is to busy though. Don't you? Having to squeeze things in.

Good morning everyone. Today is a break day even though ME is on the August rotation. I'm thinking I might take the workouts I miss on the August rotation and do them the last week of the month instead of STS. I haven't done ME yet--so that would be another new workout which is always fun.
Speaking of sister: she is here visiting.:) Got some chores to do this morning and then we are going to putz around on the dinghy. It is first free Friday at the Marine Museum, so we are probably going to go to the museum later on too. Tomorrow will be bike riding.~michelle
Michelle, Your workout plan sounds great. You will like ME, it's very challenging, but then again, which Adv. Cathe DVD's aren't? LOL Enjoy it.

Deborah, Two weeks off from STS is really OK. It is a lot of strain on your body and those two weeks would only benefit you. One week of course is good too, only you can hear your body and what it needs. Isn't wonderful to be more strong than you have from other DVD's. It's amazing!.

Shoegal, Enjoy your time at the beach, it all sounds wonderful. You'll enjoy your new workouts. They are something, just wait and see. Good job on your ab workout.

Talk to all later, and have a great day.

Hi Everyone, seems like everyone has already checked in for the day! TOday KPC is on the schedule, which is one I really like, so I am excited to do it. I am previewing Drill Max while I iron the laundry and boy that looks insane! I doubt I will be able to get through all those drills without longer breaks between sets to lower the heart rate.

Shadowpup: Yes Elizabeth did dressage, I didn't know how to spell it correctly, so thank you. I know how you must feel about other workouts, it is so hard to top Cathe!

Shoegal: my classes are definitely not as hard as Cathe's and the pilates is a different type of movement as well. I also am so focused on the class that I don't really count it as a workout for me as I am not focusing on my own form and body. Sometimes I am walking around giving corrections and adjustments, so I really do need to do my own workouts. It also keeps me motivated and gives me ideas of things to do.

Michelle: so you took the STS plunge!!! Congratulations! I don't know if I could wait to start if I had it in my greedy little hands. Have you done your 1RM?

Janie: So what is disc 37? Yes I did need that day off, felt so much better the next day!

FORGOT TO MENTION THAT I HAVE SERIOUS DOMS IN CHEST, TRICEPS AND EVEN LATS FROM YESTERDAY. It has been awhile since I have had DOMS and it is weird in the sense that I have been doing the GS every week now for 4 weeks and that I have DOMS only on the last week of the 4 week rotation. I wonder if it is because I took the day before the workout off? Any ideas?

Hi all,

While wrestling with the idea of buying a fitness dvd (half the fun, right?) I ran across a post in the other forums about this site:

http://www.kineticflix.com/packages.php

It apparently is a kind of netflix for workout dvds. They even have Cathe STS!

Not sure I'd want it myself, because I'd worry about taking a rental on travel. Still, it might be a way to check out an instructor. Thought I'd pass it along in case it's handy.

Finished with Disc 27. It was a great workout and catching up where I left off faster than I though. Will try my old weights next session, in a couple of days.

Will be taking care of my other grandson for a day, so tomorrow will have him here during the day and over night. Then have to give him up to his parents for a little while then back to us for a little while through the Summer. He's the one that thinks he learned how to swim by practicing holding his breath in the hot tub. Chasie is 4 and so sweet, he has an imagination. This time will practice sit diving off the hot tub. He'll like that.

Laura, Did you enjoy KPC? Great workout! I've done Drill Max, My O My is all I can say. Challenging, but that's what it's all about. You are in for a treat. DOM's are my middle name lately. Disc 27 is Shoulders, Biceps and Triceps. Did it today and I'm still a little shy of my old weight, but the next time around will be where I left off. You might be feeling DOM's in that way because your body has been acclimated to it, and maybe you are using better form thus using your muscles to their capacity and then experiencing sore muscles. Just a thought. Does that make sense?

Got a go, talk again later.
