Hair & the new workouts

Hi Cathe!

I know this may sound strange, but I'm wondering if you (and the others) might go back to more feminine hairdos. For the past 3-4 years, the hair is always in some sort of ponytail for you all, and I remember the older workouts where everyone had a different hairdo.

I always enjoyed seeing the new hairdos and wondering if one of them might look good on me. For some reason the videos with the hair behind the ears and in a ponytail looks rather masculine and seems so out of place for us who truly loved to see what in the world the hair would look like in the next video set.

I know. I know it sounds so ... feminine, but then it is something extra that I have always liked about your workouts. The outfits as well as the hair and other tips (like how to trim down that waist that seems to expand as we grow older).

Anyway, just thought I'd mention it. I love the workouts -- you are still the best exerciser on video out there -- your skill, the warm-ups and cool-downs and the awesome hard work. Love it!:)

I think hair style/color is a very personal choice, but I understand what you mean. I love Cathe's natural curly/wavy hair! Not sure why hair trends have gone back to stick straight hair. I used to work in an office where all the caucasian females under 35 had the same hairstyle---stick straight, long hair. I couldn't tell them apart (they were all super skinny, too, not athletic thin).

Disclosure: I am a 50 year old caucasian with long curly natural brown hair, with white/silver streaks (including a Bonnie Raitt stripe in front. haha!). When I workout, I put it in a pony tail w/a Buff headband around my hairline to keep out of my face.

I'm with Cathe when I workout - ponytail!! I can't stand hair hanging in my face, it's hot when it's down, it gets sweaty. Yuck - and that would not look good on a video. You're working out, not going out.

I look hideous when I w/o! I can not stand to have a single piece of hair touch my face! So back it goes in a ponytail like Michael Bolton! Even then, I need my trusty headband to hold back any strays.

This is me. I have to have a ponytail and headband or a hat to keep it off me.

I'm a ponytail girl too. I even usually braid mine in the ponytail because during high intensity workouts, sometimes my hair hits the side of my face a sticks to it. I have that. I'm the one with straight long hair, but not by choice. I wish I had curly or texture to my hair. So up it goes into the ponytail, and I don't think it looks masculine.

I have mine pulled backed also with a headband or scarf around my hairline to keep the sweat from running in my eyes. I've discovered that if my hair isn't pulled back, sometimes sweat will roll down my hair strand and into my face. Yuck!! I don't like that feeling.

I like Cathe's hair in CoreMax and Gym Styles.

However if I tried to workout without a ponytail and about 4 large clips, I wouldn't be able to see by the end of my workout. I have curly hair that turns into fuzzy hair by the end of the workout due to sweating, 3 fans I have going and constant wiping down with a towel. We are talking Bride of Frankenstein, but scarier. I look all pretty and cute going into a workout and look extremely scary coming out of one (from the neck up).

I think that may be the only reason Cathe wouldn't have me as an extra in her workout - we would have to stop every 5 minutes for a touch up. At least that is what I like to tell myself.

I hate my hair when I'm working out! It's wavy and fluffy and waist length. I put it in a high ponytail to work out and it's still always all over me, coz I sweat so much. Icky! I like it best in a bun, but it doesn't stay there. I should braid it, but don't want to take the time. I'm tempted to get it cut just for my work outs. But then I see Jai with her long ponytail ... she looks so pretty! (in XTrain or LIS?)

I personally think Cathe and crew should wear their hair as they please, and as they can stand to wear it under 100 degree temps due to sweaty workouts and studio lights.

I can't bear watching Jari Love doing her Ripped workouts where her hair is down the whole time, just gathering sweat from her shoulders and back. Yuck!

I'm with the ladies who scrape it all back, not a single strand stuck to my shoulders, no siree. So, I understand the recent repeats of pony tails. Eminently practical. This is working out, after all, not attending fashion shows in Paris!

Plus, how practical is the really long, artificial, hairpiece pony tail from the GS weights DVDs on workouts such as Crossfire?

I think I understand the spirit of what the OP is saying. I, too, like to look at the hair styles when I do the workouts. But when I workout, it's a ponytail (double-bands), bangs clipped out of my face, and a 2" sweatband! I even have to vary my ponytail to suit the workout--lower if I'm going to be on my back, higher if it's high-intensity (but not too high or it gets too much momentum:p). And there is no way I could do a HiiT workout with any type of an updo--it just falls out. So, I don't really expect Cathe and Crew to have a non-workout hairstyle.

The best hair for all of them, in my opinion, was in the Stretch Max. They all looked so feminene and healthy. but they weren't sweating in those.

I don't usually comment on posts I find odd--but it seems really odd to me that anyone would go to a lot of trouble to style their hair for a workout. I sweat a lot when I workout--especially the cardio and circuit training workouts--and I want no hair touching my face or neck, so it is in a ponytail and held out my face with barrettes and a band. Since Cathe and crew are actually doing the workouts, I can only imagine they are sweating, too--and who wants their wet hair (full of product if styled!) sticking to their face and neck?

In fact, I am usually surprised by the amount of styling/make that trainers (in all workout DVDs) do wear! I never wear a stitch of make up when I workout. I do so much toweling off that the make up would be smeared horribly if I did!

Me Too Jen! I am a sweat factory. Luckily I work out at home, my whole get up leaves a lot to be desired.
