Getting Our Licks In!

Hello everyone! It's so nice to be back. Thank you for the warm welcome - I could feel the hugs all the way through the computer :D:D:D I am the prodigal exerciser returned to the fold

It's a lovely day outside and ... Picante is here! My big bay warmblood arrived in style, in a huge 10+ horse trailor from a company that ships racehorses, prize show horses, and spoiled beloved four footed children. Guess which Picante is
I'll post pics later. He should be ready to for short rides this weekend after his six day trip across country. It feels so good to be moving forward, and bringing my family closer to me, rather than having to focus so hard on finding good homes and placements for those who cannot come.

You have all inspired me as I knew you would: yesterday I did my first full Cathe in a long time, the express full body premix on low impact trisets. My body feels it today, that's for sure. The radiation treatments feel like being too close to a hot lamp for a few minutes - not really painful. The aftereffect is about what you'd expect from getting regularly sunburned in a sensitive place day after day ... the tiredness is similar to that also. I've cut my hours at work slightly to accomodate an extra hour of sleep nightly, and might need to cut back one more hour a day this week. We'll see. I H A T E T O S L O W D O W N!!!!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad: And besides, it feels good to be among people I love to work with as long as I can (changes pending, will tell you when it's official. Good news yet bittersweet, given how much I like what I'm doing now.)

Janie, as always, your posts breathe loving kindness. What an artist you've become! You were just getting started with necklaces and a few simple diagrams when I was posting last, and now I see gorgeous art
everywhere. It's wonderful.

Michelle, (((HUGS))) right back to you. Yes, let's find a way to get together. It would be terrific to meet Ripkin some day. He named us! Thank you for your good wishes. It has been far too long.

Laura, oh, my friend ... I have been reading your posts. You are a brave and lovely lady, doing the right thing for yourself and your girls. Doing the right thing does not change the hurt. Very best wishes to you. And if I can help in any way, please let me know. My prior academic life may be useful to you if you are going back to school. Letting go is hard. Do you sometimes feel as though you are filled with broken glass? I'm finding it so - and also, that friendship and movement and focus on building the now into the best it vcan be does help buffer the edges, but not remove them. I hope you are also finding ways to manage all of your changes ((HUGS))

Renee, very nice to meet you and thank you also for the greeting! I've enjoyed seeing your posts. You and I share a liking for veggies, it seems: green smoothies have become a staple and I also feel much better when I have them pretty regularly.

You may be curious about how the rest of the four footed ones and the property are doing, and I'll share some as time goes on. It really is quite painful to talk about, so indulgence please. I have done my best, and DH too, to make sure all will be as well as possible with everything and everyone we love, down to the cactus cuttings in my living room. Sentimental and worried about cactus cuttings??? Yes, well, you know me here :eek::eek::eek::eek: And even most of those have good homes.

Shadow pup hello this morning!! It's good to meet u also,
I hope to get to know u even more. I love the Cathe forums! I am addicted lol.

Hi ladies I have time to post before leaving I am doing HS with the conditioning !! Then it is sit for five hours!! Yuck lol

Good morning. Well, it feels more like fall right now, but Ripken is not complaining and neither am I. Last week I got an early preview to how this summer is going to be with Ripken: it was warmer and humid and he just had a hard time dealing with it. His golden heart perseveres though and we just take shorter walks. Most of our walks also include about 5 minutes of him resting, but he is still a happy, albeit, old pup. He shows no signs of discomfort or pain yet--more just the signs of being old.

Shadowpup: Getting one more hour of sleep and working one less hour probably still means that you are working very long hours. But, I think you are right it is better to be active, thinking, and working while also fighting the cancer than just fighting the cancer. I am looking forward to hearing more about your family as you are ready to share. I told sister that you were back with us and what was going on in your life; she asked about the teenage girl that was living with you and your DH during her last year of high school. Did she go off to college? How is she doing? I hope that things are working out well for her. When you are ready for a visit, let me know and we will pin down a date.

ReneeP: I thought you were already in WVa for the weekend. At least you got one more workout in before you left. Are you taking any workouts with you?

Janie: I spent some time reading reviews of HipHopAbs on amazon. The workout gets really mixed reviews and I'm in the "I don't think so" camp at the moment. Sister told me that knowing me, I probably would not be too crazy about it. So, I think I'll just try it next time I visit here and save my $27.95. We've been purchasing salmon from a place out in Washington called SeaBear and we just got freshly caught halibut from them (shipped two days express, on ice). The salmon is wonderful and DH will be cooking the halibut tonight for dinner. All part of our effort to eat more fish and less red meat.

Will be getting ready to tackle STS total body here shortly. Have a great Saturday.
Michelle

Hi Michelle

Yes I am taking some workouts that don't need equipment and that is kick max, KPC, and HS and her yoga DVDs. I will also do some hiking in the mountains hopefully!!
We are driving now to wva. My son is gonna stay with my niece for a few days and is mad cause DH and I won't let him stay there while we are gone. I know that sounds bad but i don't know what else to do. He may have friends over and we want to have a home .. He is so sad about it cause he doesn't understand y we still don't trust him, we'll we let him stay with us for four months to get his money saved to get his own place , but he is broke! So for four months he still hasn't been able to save money and all he had to pay was his insurance. He has no phone. Well so what else can I think expect, he spent his money on party's or whatever. So it hurts me I still am afraid to give him the benefit of the doubt!! It hurts us too.. He used to be a wonderful young man but I tell u addiction makes u not right at times.
So he is moving out later this month again rooming with someone else!! Why in the world doesn't he try to rent his own place!! I ask and that's when he says it cost to much he has 60 dollars in the bank!!! Wow ok
And I know he still doing the stuff cause he is spending the nights somewhere else when he don't have to work. I feel evil cause I am trying to have tuff love. I wonder if he will EVER understand how much I love him and I do want to trust him but can't

Rainy. Did 30 min on my stair climber. Getting ready to sell some medicinal soap and jewelry at the Art Center. Putting tags and info on them all day yesterday. Sure hope it's worth it.

Michelle, I don't have any of Shaun T workouts. I've also read more bad reviews than good on Shaun T's Hip Hop Abs. I even looked on you tube and I agree, not so good. I'd rather do my Core Rhythms and Brazil Butt Lift. There is no comparing Cathe workouts on anything. She's top notch. But sometimes I want music and dance. :D

My alternative workout, (CR and BBL) look much more intense than Shaun's and still I am upright (standing/dancing) getting a very good workout and at the same time a cardio too. Glad to see you are protecting your back and making necessary adjustments for safety reasons. I'm so glad your back is feeling better. I love our beach but I'm a sissy when it comes to cold, rainy and windy days. LOL:confused:

Deb, Love hearing from you. You have such a grand way with words. My gosh, so elegant and heartfelt. You send warm good feelings every time I read your posts. You make me feel important. Know that if I had those magical words to make you feel good too, I would. I so admire you and your strength. I'm sure you have bad days as well and during those times, know I'm hugging you and praying for the best. Thank you for sharing with us your life, the good parts and the challenges. (hugs) Your are such a dear friend.

Awww love hearing Picante has arrived. I bet he was so glad to see you. My heart aches for you knowing you can't bring along everyone where you are now. The ones that won't be in your care will miss you terribly, I'm sure. But you did what is best for them and that is true love.

Great job on Express full body prem. on Low Impact trisets. And for the DOM's the next day. Yea!

I've done some research on herbs (from well established medical research papers) and came up with a soap (don't know if it works in soap) for after radiation treatments. May help with the burn you have on your skin. Also, Joey and I have been drinking probiotic tea drinks, one of which is called Kombucha/SCOBY. It's a colony of good bacteria. You can look it up on the internet. It's been around for more than 2,000 years.

Of course our gov. does not know much about it and there has been little research on it. However, if people have been making this drink for so long, there must be something wonderful about it. Kombucha has so many claims that one can be doubtful. So I'm assuming it's preventive medicine or something. If you have time to look up Kombucha and if you are curious then I could send you a SCOBY to make your own probiotic tea drink with the recipe and instructions on how to brew it. Also will send soap for the radiation treatment burn. Let me know if you want me to send them to you. If the soap doesn't work, then use the herbs (I'll let you know soon, I'm at the beach house and the recipe is in Shelton) to make a small amount of tea mixed in with olive and coconut oil. Heat it up together a little bit and mix it up in a coffee grinder/Magic Bullet or whatever you have.

Thank you for the art compliment. Makes me feel good. I think I found my nitch finally after all these years.

Michelle, I'm so sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I feel the same way as you do about Shaun's workouts. Oh, we sometimes have such a small world. Enjoy the healthy halibut and wonderful salmon from SeaBear. (will have to look it up). I just now looked it up. It's in Anacortes, one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Great job on the walks with our dear Ripken. Bless his heart. I'm glad he is not showing signs of pain. Enjoy your STS workout.

ReneeP, Sounds like you are good for workouts without equipment. Good going. OOOOOOOO, love hiking in the mountain. Enjoy that if you can. I can't even imagine the difficulty you are going through with the addiction your son has. (hugs and prayers to your family) I simply don't have any advice but know you are in my thoughts.

Good morning everyone!

I had planned to pick up the apartment and then go ride Picante again. BUT. Since (a) I did Cathe on Friday, and (b) was horseback for the first time since Christmas on Saturday, the logical consequence of a+b is ... DOMS! DOMS! DOMS!

It's probably not possible for me to pick up the apartment yet because most of my body claims it is no longer bendable  if Picante feels like I do, he could use a little recovery time also  And it is probably going to be lovely out at Brookside Gardens, with azaleas in bloom. Far too beautiful to do paperwork indoors ... All that adds up to spending part of the day in the sun, enjoying flowers in a park. At least to start. If I feel good after some nice loosening walking around, either Picante will take me for a ride, or Cathe will take my muscles for a workout. If I feel great, both.

Stay tuned for later and I will let you know which :D

Made cookies for the final day of UFO at the art center. Darn! I wanted it to go on forever. Also wrapped up a lot of soap for the center to sell for me. Wow. Will be wrapping up jewelry next. Just don't know yet if they have display racks. We'll see. Having a hard time pricing them. Did a full body form STS. Wow, I got to keep going on the weight workouts. It was hard and I lost ground. Darn!

Deb, Tell me what kind of workouts from Cathe's are you doing. Picking up an apartment is awesome! You are really getting stronger these days. ;) By the way congrats on your DOM's. that's awesome. Oh do enjoy your down time and going to the Brookside Gardens with amazing flowers in bloom. Have a good day.

Take care ladies,

Janie

I'm enjoying this nice 3 day weekend. Did HIIT 40/20 today. Only two more days of this rotations and then what? I might do the workouts I missed last week when my back was hurting by then Cathe should have a June rotation posted. Did a little gardening this morning after Ripken and I walked. Just trimmed back my azaleas and one of my nandinas. Stuff is growing like crazy now, but the azaleas are past bloom and needed to be trimmed up. Just a quiet day here.

Deb: so it sounds like you are still in your apartment and you are boarding Picante. I imagine you both have DOMS today. I imagine your body felt good being with Picante for a ride; good for the soul too.

Janie: yeah, I've decide to pass on the hiphopabs and stick with Cathe. We had fresh halibut the other night from SeaBear and we will be eating the rest of it tonight. My DH grilled it as well as pineapple and kiwi. I made some brown rice and quinoa--it was a delicious and healthy meal. Looking forward to more of the same this evening. Are you a Joey big fish eaters? It would seem that you could get good fresh fish where you are. I will have to check out where Anacortes is in Washington.

ReneeP: I am sorry to hear that the struggles with your son continue. But you are right to make them his struggles and not yours. I think that is perfectly reasonable and healthy. Better to accept the way things are and not pretend that everything is okay. That would not be good for you and your DH. Enjoy your visit to WVA. We will be here when you get back.

STS total body without bonus burns and ab work. My 9am meeting got cancelled just as I was pulling into the parking lot at Quantico so I could have done the whole workout this morning, but still a good workout without the bonus burn and ab segments. Looking forward to a good productive work week. Hope all of you are having the same.

Today was beach walking with Rolly for an hour. So beautiful even though there was no sunshine.

Michelle, Great job on doing HiTT 40/20. That one to me is a hard one. Good for you! Gardening is so cool to do and keeping fit. Great job also on the walks with Ripken. Yummy...never tried kiwi in a meal before, must give that a try. We are big time fish eaters and when we can get the fish right off the boats at a good price we certainly do.

Great job on STS Total body without bonus and bonus burns and ab work. I love this one! Aw, sorry you were canceled out.

Take care everyone,

Janie

Hi ladies

Made it back today. I did hard strikes on Sunday again because are grand kids wanted to workout and that one is fun and would keep there attention. And it did!! They were taking about how Cathe is a machine and she didn't look like she was sweating at all! Lol they were also at first saying oh this isn't hard til 10 minutes in there saying how long is it? Then one said there legs hurt lol they had to walk in place at times but they were happy they did it? Lol.
I am thinking of doing a MMA boxing but it is new for me I just gut it. In ur opinion will it get my heart rate up? What was your alls take?

Getting ready to go for a walk on the beach and try to find clam shells. Was experimenting with a clam shell and found out I can draw tangles inside of it. Thought maybe I could sell them at the art center gallery this Summer. What do you think? Just use a bead reamer to make a hole on top and I could make pendants out of them.

It looks big here in the photo but it's a pendant size shell. LOL

Will be back after exercises sometime today,

Janie

Yesterday was a very long windy sprinkle day at the beach. Rolly and I searched for clam shells and surprisingly didn't find as many as we'd liked. Where did they go? I guess it's a seasonal thing. Hmmmm We stayed out there for a couple of hours and brought home half a dozen various kinds of shells. Still worth it for the long walk though. Will be going to the Art Center to volunteer to make pendants for a few hours.

These ladies are so great. First impression for the exception of one are kind generous and know their arts and crafts. The exception is an extreme large woman by the name of Pamela. I sat with her at one time and when I tried to make conversation with her she said nothing back to me. Hmmmm I found out she had gotten a job and I read or thought she won't be coming back to the UFO group. So I made her a pair of earrings and a pendant out of mood beads. Turns out she still will be at the UFO group meetings and told her my confusion and gave the jewelry set to her anyway. She thanked me but I still don't know if she liked them or not.

It may not have been her taste. However, I saw she was smiling more and joking this time around. I need to get to know this personality. She reminds me of a female version of Steven Seagal. (not a favorite of mine) The very black hair pulled back in front. Hoping to get to know her better so I can see her in a better light.

ReneeP, Glad to see you made it home safely. Great job on HS on Sun. with your grand children. How fun and funny! Yes I agree, MMA Boxing is a great workout.

Take care ladies,]

Janie

Hi girls I have not read all your post yet but wanted to say hi.
I am miserable!! no stone yet, I have been using a funnel so they can analyze it when it passes. I took a pill called Flomax and it helps a lot it opens up the urethra but I can take it only once a day and if I take it in the morning by 6 n evening it is not good so no sleep at all.. last night I could not hold water or pills down at all. they gave me pain pills but the Flomax works better. I was thinking today it was over but no here it comes again it does feel like a baby but stranger..
I don't know how to explain it.. I wonder if I bite the bullet and jump up and down would it loosen it up? I tried to drink some vinegar and water to.. I am not sure that was a good thing or not. I just wanted to say I missed checking in here!! I missed weekend and now this.. This is my vacation time and I have to spend it sick yuck.. oh well I guess it could be worse.. I must stop being a baby and learn to suck it up as Cathe says air is free so suck it up lol oh well I am going to go lay down now because it is staring to hurt again

Hi girls I got a question, how long are the sts dvd? I hear they are long, but I have been wanting it I think, for a while but was afraid I don't like lifting for over an hour on one body part. I don't know how it goes. So can you tell me what the program will do for me that the other weight lifting dvds cant do? I am interested but I don't want to spend that much on it if I don't like it.. It is deal of the day

I also wish I can exercise today, I am finally able to hold y pills down so my pain is minimal now except when the pain pills wares off. But I do feel headachy and weak, but I feel if I try to do some type of exercise it may make me feel better, and help me breath better and maybe move the stupid stone out. They say it may take five days!! this is the third day and I am so sick of water!! I cant believe they doctor says I was dehydrated as well that is why I was throwing up and diarrhea. Man I wonder if yoga will help me move my body easy and help me feel better ? What would you guys do>??? So now I have two questions for you guys I guess lol Okay back to bed again. I will wait on your reply about sts I am sure offer is good til tonight.. thanks girls..

I guess I have been MIA again. Finished Cathe's May rotation on Wednesday, yesterday was a rest day. I'm now doing the three workouts that I missed last week when my lower back was hurting: today was 30/30, tomorrow will be Hardstrikes, and Sunday will be Tabatacise. Ripken had his annual vet checkup today. He is fine; the tumor on his leg is pretty big but it does not seem to bother him. His skin is extremely dry so the vet gave us some special shampoo for our groomer to use on Ripken and an antibiotic.

Janie: I love the shell with the zentangle in it. That is really cool. Took me a minute to realize what you had done. Just amazing.

ReneeP: STS workouts can seem long, but part of the length of the workouts is due to the breaks that you get between each exercise. In the first mesocycle, you get a 30-second rest after each exercise. In the second mesocycle, the rest periods are 60 second, in the third they are 90 seconds. It is a great program and well worth the dollar and time investment. Cathe runs specials on STS on the deal of the day a couple of times a month so that would be the time to buy. I believe today it is on special. ;)

Not much else going on. I will be working through the weekend on a paper that I absolutely have to get done in the next 10 days. But I'll be taking some time to relax as well. Hope everyone has a nice Friday evening.
Michelle

Walked on beach for an hour and found only a couple of shells.

ReneeP, I am so sorry you are going through this. OMG! Please stay strong you poor thing! Let us know when it passes. Like Michelle says the STS program seems long, but when you are doing them, they really are not so long. Those DVD's are the best out there on this planet. Really. They make you stronger and have more endurance.

Michelle, Congrats on finishing the May Rotation. You are so good. Thinking about doing her June rotation, we'll see. Great job on 30/30. Yea for Ripken and his good checkup. Thank you for the compliment on the shell. I like it too. LOL Good luck on your paper.

Take care,

Janie

Hi all! Quick check in for me today ... hope to have more time for personals later. The radiation treatments are starting to catch up with me; well, I'm getting twice the normal dosage here on this special 16 day versus 32 day protocol, so that's not surprising. The HUZZAH part is that I only have five more treatments to go :eek::eek::D:D:D:D:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Work is hectic, and so I've been going back into the office after treatments except yesterday. The original plan of working shorter days had to go out the window. Oh well. My workouts are down to life support, meaning shorter and lighter weights. That, again, is just for the next week, and then I can begin working on rebuilding. Still and all, last night I did the Cathe's Upper Body premix and was able to more or less keep up.

I have also indulged in dress and shoe shopping. Remember Shoegal? I'm not in her league but did have fun last night, going to the mall and splurging. The result is several new outfits I'd better have the guts to wear :eek::eek::eek:

(((HUGS))) to each of you. I'm off to do errands, and hope to ride Picante as well. Work-paperwork can wait for tomorrow!

Good morning all!

It's a beautiful morning - shaping up to be a scorcher of a Sunday! The birds are getting their singing time in, and the "contraband kitty" (intros on her later) has meandered into my living room to watch them from a cooler spot.

ReneeP , oh, ow! I hurt just thinking about what you are going through. Does moving around help? Hope so. You must be counting the hours. Re STS, that really is one of the best programs out there. I was never so fit as when doing that, especially the third portion. I might join you when radiation is done (probably cutting each dvd in half "because it is my workout") The first time through, I found it really helpful to spend two weeks on each session. That let my body adjust better to the exercises.

Janie, that shell is absolutely gorgeous! It would look lovely on a necklace. Could you sign your art with initials, maybe even on the back of the shell or as a tiny tag on the chain? Such creativity :D

Michelle, glad to hear that Ripkin checked out well. This heat has to be a challenge. He's a lucky boy to have such a good mom. Hope your paper writing went well - otherwise this would have been a perfect boating weekend, yes?

Laura, good morning to you also, and hope you are having some fun this weekend. Wasn't it two years ago that you went hiking about this season?

Yesterday I had a short but fun ride on Picante. The local horse community has adopted me. A good thing, too, because it's hit the point where I wear out when I saddle my own horse :mad::mad: But my new friends saddled him up, clucked a bit over the fit of his tack, made a few changes, and made me use a mounting block. I went back and forth between being embarassed to need help and just plain happiness to be riding my big guy. Afterwards, I sat under a tree, on a picnic bench, and cleaned my tack while watching my horse ... while it is not my home, it is peaceful and good and healing.

So, here's today's plans. I'm doing a short ride this morning, again with help. planning more for the move from apartment to leased house in two weeks. Likewise, we're about to announce my new job at the agency tomorrow, at least to the people most affected, and there's some prep for that. Then dinner/pizza party with friends from graduate school to celebrate. AND I am having fun putting together a get-strong-and-fit rotation. Maybe if it turns out well I will post it here as the Survive and Thrive rotation, eh?

Might not post much for the next five days, since I'm guessing that typing will fall off the list of things that my right side feels like doing for long - but I'll read your posts, and be back before you know it.
