Getting Our Licks In!

Well, I ended up take a break on Friday and then I did XTRAIN bis and tris yesterday. Now, I am into my "rest" week--lots of stretching and yoga.I did the basic stretch and the first stretch with the ball from total body stretching tody. We'll see how long I can stand this but I'm going to try to go the whole week. Cathe's November rotation looks super tough. So, what I thought was a growth on Ripken's lower middle gum, turned out to be like a sack of blood (I guess from scrapping his chin). It popped open and drained and now everything seems okay. The weather is cooler and Ripken in enjoying the cooler days--again. He just had a five minute spurt of puppy energy playing with his stuffed Halloween kitty--now he is napping.

Janie: we had about 70 trick-or-treaters at my house. About normal for where we live. Ripken stayed alert for about the first 15-20 minutes Halloween evening and then he just laid down in the foyer where he could keep an eye on the front door.

Kathy: if your husband wants to buy a 50-Post, we have one that we'd love to sell to him. It is a wonderful boat, but we just aren't using it and it really needs an owner who will continue to love her. Very encouraging news that you are using a 5-lb db with your left arm with no pain. You've got to start somewhere and that is a good start.

Laura: time to kick what is left of the cold by "working it out." Hardstrikes is a good workout--kudos to you for getting through it even though you weren't feeling 100 percent yet.

Hope everyone remembered to set their clocks back one hour today.
Michelle

Hi again! two works in a row and two checkins in a row! Yippee!

Today I, like Michelle, did Bi's and Tri's from X train. For some reason it isn't one of my favorite workouts but it get's the job done and that's what matters. Man those exercises where she adds the tubbing are wicked! My fore arms are tired now!

Michelle: cute Ripkin! He is such a good Halloween Puppy! The girls went trick-or-Treating with a few friends from school. Another parent and I walked around with them but kept a healthy distance. I sure wasn't trick-or treating with my folks at 13 but it's a different world and safety first…Next year they can go alone if they are with a group. I wonder how many more years of trick or treating left? Just a few I suppose.

11-4-13

I haven't been feeling too well over the weekend. DH has been sick since Thursday but feeling better today. Took a rest day on Saturday; just too many errands to do + cleaning max. Sunday felt a little bit better & I decided to do Xtrain chest/back/shoulders rounds 1-4 + Core #1 premix + KCM's stepboxing workout #2. I just had to make up for not working out on Saturday. I was shocked to find myself doing a one-arm row with a 15#db + a 10#db for chest flyes. I also was able to use the resistance band. I even held a 5# db when doing those circles for working the shoulders. Did pushups w/no pain. I still have a little bit of pain in the elbow. Its too bad though that the insurance company will only pay for 2 more sessions. That's it. I'll need to ask my pt what I can do at home.

My right leg is still bothering me from a bad Charlie horse that happened Friday night. Tried taking a hot bath & stretching it out but nothing seems to be working. I'm supposed to do Xtrain Legs perhaps just the standing premix but not sure tonight. I'm limping around the office today. Need some advice on what to do?

Michelle: I'll ask my DH if he knows that type of boat. After doing that Oct. rotation I'm not surprised that you need an active recovery week. I used to workout for 3 weeks & then take a recovery week. Maybe its time I did that myself. I'm glad to hear that Ripken's growth wasn't anything serious. My prayers for your sweet pup were answered. You really surpassed my house w/70 trick-or-treaters. Wow!

Laura: Glad your finally getting over your cold. You had very good workouts too. I'm not a fan of Xtrain's bis/tris either. Working my biceps are the least favorite body part to do. Your trick-or-treating days will soon be over I'm sorry to say. It most likely will be substituted w/house parties instead or just venturing out w/their friends leaving you at home.

Janie Sis: How are you doing w/your leg today? I hope its all healed. How does it feel to be back home? I bet you miss the beach. We have frigid weather here today. Its only 26 but going up to 46. Brr!!!

Have a good day ladies!
Kathy

Sorry I've been MIA, I kept reading your posts but never had time to add my own. Exercise has been very minimal, I've been busy with so much but this week I will get back on track. Halloween was lots of fun, the kids had a great time and I've vowed to keep my hand out of the candy jar from here on out - bleh too much sugar! Friday we headed to Billings for the weekend. Dave ran a 5K Saturday morning and I ran the 1 mile fun run with Lily. She stated it was not fun when we were gradually going uphill but said it was fun on the way down :) My parents celebrated their 40th Anniversary so we took them out for lunch and had cake after then we spent the rest of the weekend with friends. It was a good weekend. The time change had me exhausted last night and I was sleeping on the couch shortly after 9, the good news is I feel great today and will get back on track with exercise. Tonight I'm planning to do X10 - Fat Burning, I really love that one.

I did fall on Saturday night when I got up in the middle of the night to get a bottle for Lucas - I didn't realize the floor sloped to a drain and I fell smacking my knee and somehow tweaked my foot. I'm hoping the foot issue doesn't give me any problems with exercising, fingers crossed!

Kathy - That's great you were able to do so much with no pain! I'm sure your PT can get you some exercises to do once insurance stops.

Laura - I dread when she incorporates tubing also, I'm usually already tired before they come out and wonder why she wants to torture me :)

Michelle - So glad it was just blood build up! Enjoy the rest week and stretching.

Cindy

Ok 3 days of exercise and 3days of checking in! Yay Me!

Today I took a class at the YMCA where my mom is an active member of their Silver Sneakers Programs. It was called "Quad Step" which I thought meant the quadriceps! Unfortunately it meant Quad as in the number 4, as in the number of steps that you do a step routine on!!!:eek::eek::eek: And not only that but you share those 4 steps with everyone around you!!! So when you mess up like I did A LOT than you end up messing up those around you as well!! Holy Molly that was by far the most mentally challenging thing I have ever done! And I got a good workout! I usually have a Pilates client on Mondays at that time but when I can I will definitely be back for some more torture!

On the work front I have made some good progress! So those of you who don't know I have been a Pilates Teacher for the past ten years, but mostly as a hobby, since I have been mostly a mother and a home keeper. My husband was/is indecently wealthy and supported me as it was our decision that my primary focus by the kids/household. Well the divorce has been horrible with him hiding money, lying about his income and things of that nature. So long story short I find myself suddenly needing a job at the age of 41 with not a lot of job experience and no saving of my own. Terrifying really. Any today I just finished my Final Exam to be a personal Trainer which expands my clientele and also covers me legally as I sort of fell in to teaching strictly fitness class at the Recreation Center where I teach Pilates and with such an ugly divorce I need to cover my self legally. And I have been hired at two new Pilates Studios starting in the New Year! :D So I am feeling pretty good today and like I can begin to move forward and things will be all right. My real goal is still to go back for an Associates Degree as Physical Therapy Assistant and I am shadowing PT's to prepare to do that, however I need to wait till the divorce is over to see what my resources are. Since I have a MA I don't qualify for federal assistance.

Cindy I do that too sometimes when I am really busy, just pop in and read the post but not respond! Those kids sure do keep you running! That is a precious little story about the fun run, and she sure did speak the truth!

Kathy that is awesome that you are making progress! I remember how painful it was when I had tennis elbow! It's no fun at all. I hear you on the biceps and with my body mine just seem to get bigger but not look cut! It is frustrating after my last cycle of STS my arms/shoulders where actually getting tight in my shirts and jackets so I backed off the weights a little. I want to look cut not just bigger!!

Hi to Janie and Michelle

So--today I did the first 38 minutes of Shiva Rea's beginner yoga dvd. It's been well over a year, maybe close to 2 since I've done this dvd so it was like doing it for the first time. I decided to do a more challenging yoga workout on my "recovery" week and for me; this is it. Hopefully, I'll become more familiar and comfortable with the routine by the end of the week.

Laura: ugh! I just hate this situation that you find yourself in. It just stinks. You think you've got a plan set up with you spouse about division of labor with regard to raising a family and employment and then boom: divorce. Now, you find yourself in a real sticky wicket and it is just so unfortunate. The good news is that is sounds like you have a plan for moving forward. But, correct me if I am wrong in my understanding of your situation but it sounds like he is trying to minimize child support and alimony. Is that correct? If so, that is so unfair to your children. Jeez. I've heard about those step workouts where you are using more than one step--sounds very challenging.

Cindy: nice to have you back. I figured that you must be very busy. Take a deep breath, relax, and don't worry about missing a few days.

Kathy: you really are springing back on your weight work. Very encouraging and very exciting. Thanks for praying for my sweet pup. I thank God for him everyday.

Hi to Janie.

Michelle

Started the STS Series and decided I will do 6 months. Did disc 1. O my! I forgot about the many pushups and did have to modify with knees mostly and tabletop position sometimes. LOL. Foot is still sore.

Cindy, Minimal exercise is better than nothing. Good for you. Also for running 1 mile fun with Lily. 40 years is awesome to be married. Congratulations for them. Crossing my fingers on your foot issue as well.

Kathy Sis, Glad you are feeling better and great job on Sunday's Xtrain chest back and shoulders rnds 1-4 and core 1 premix. Oh and KCM's stepboxing workout 2. WOW Those are very good weight you are using and with the band too.

Laura, Great job taking a UMCA class witn your mom. OOOOOO love the mental challenge you went through. I would love to do that. So glad you will be a PT. I know you will do well. Congratulations for a wonderful beginning of a new year and a refreshed life. Also going back for an Associate Degree as Physical Therapy Assistant sounds wonderful. 3 days streight in checking in. Better than me lately. Good for you.

Michelle, Great job on the first 38 min. of Shiva. I think I might have that one and remember how much I liked it.

Take care ladies,

Janie

Last night it was supposed to be Great Glutes but my calf was still bothering me. Just decided to massage it & give my legs a rest. Tonight I plan on doing Xtrain's bis/tris (rounds 4-9) + Core #2. If its not too late, I might be tempted to do Tabatacize 1-2. We'll see how that goes.

Janie: I'm excited for you that you started an STS rotation. Good job on all those pushups. I believe you did 130. What's going on w/your foot? Maybe you need a doctor to look at it.

Cindy: That run must've been fun w/Lily. That's great that Dave ran a 5K & congrats to your parents on their 40th! How's the foot feeling today? Better I hope.

Laura: I have the same feeling that Michelle has re your soon to be ex. It does sound as if he doesn't want to pay the correct amount in child & spousal support. Its just awful. Happy to hear that your moving forward & in a much better place. I wish you all the best. That must've been some challenging class you took w/your mother. Sharing a step w/4 people. Oh my! I don't know how I would've been in that class. Kudos to you for making it through.

Michelle: I've never done a Shiva yoga workout. Hope you enjoyed it. I think 38 min. would be too long for me personally. LOL

Have a good day everyone.
Kathy

I did the X10 Fat Burning workout and had time and energy after to work on a few chores around the house. I'm excited to watch Lily at cheer practice tonight now that soccer is over - I need to try to memorize some of the cheers so we can practice them at home. Tonight I plan to do the X10 STEP workout and start taking down Halloween decorations and I'll clean a bit while I do that. We have another busy weekend so the more I do in the evenings the easier my weekend will be.

My foot was fine while I was exercising last night and was just a little sore before bed. It feels good today so that's a great sign!

Kathy - You are ambitious! I need some of that time, eventually :)

Janie - Great job starting STS, I'd be the same with pushups but know it will get better with time and strength.

Michelle - I know the Shiva Rea yoga I have is pretty challenging, great job dusting it off!

Laura - Great job on the quad workout! I'm so proud of you becoming a personal trainer and having pilates jobs lined up. You have overcome a huge obstacle and are a very strong woman!

Cindy

Quick check-in. Just able to do a stretch from Stretch Max today (the one with the band). I had to allow extra time in order to vote and then get to Quantico for my 9am meeting which ended up not happening. Oh well. Feeling restless wrt exercise. Might do a burn set and core workout tomorrow. It's hard not doing cardio. Or maybe I'm just avoiding that yoga workout?

Michelle

11-6-13

Last night I did Xtrain's bis/tris (rounds 4-9) + Core #2 + Tabatacise #1. Felt fine afterwards, however, when I went to bed my left leg was bothering me all night. Another sleepless night. I definitely need new sneakers. I even used the resistance band which I haven't been able to use in months. I was able to complete every exercise too except for one. I just have a slight pain today.

I have a pt session tonight so no workout for me.

Cindy: Glad your foot's all better. You will be able to have more time to workout once the kids get bigger. But whatever you can do its better than nothing at all. And talk about ambitious! You are too w/2 nights of X10's. Lily must be very athletic to tackle cheerleading. I bet she likes cheer better than soccer.

Michelle: I would do a stretch any day over yoga. I like that one with the band.

Janie Sis: How goes it w/STS?

Waves to Laura!

TTYL,
Kathy

I really enjoyed watching Lily at cheer last night. In two months they've come a long way and are not organized with a routine. I recorded the routine so I can learn it with her and practice at home, now to see if I can do the jumps :) I didn't get started on my exercise until 8:40 but I did the X10 STEP workout and got the inside Halloween decorations put away. Tonight I'm planning MMA boxing, not sure I'll get the whole thing in but we'll see how my evening goes.

Kathy - Lily loves cheerleading and she's in the 3-5 age group so she's not towered over :) It's amazing what new shoes can do, hope the leg is feeling better today.

Michelle - Some yoga workouts are easier to motivate for than others. The only one I really disliked was the P90X yoga, too long for me and Tony isn't the best yoga instructor.

Cindy

Went to the doctors to have my foot checked out. It's sprained. Shel told me to put ice on it twice a day, ibuprofen and gave me some special exercise to do to help with the healing. For cardio will use my spinning bike. Been awhile and I can't wait! Did Meso 1, wk 1, disc 2. Had an awesome workout and also ate Paleo throughout the day. I feel great!

I ordered a Paleo cook book called Against all Grain by Danielle Walker. I've been ab libbing my forever diet and just wanted something special for a change. Because I'm worth it.

Michelle, Great job on Stretch Max today. Awe, sorry the meeting didn't happen. Frustrating I bet.

Kathy Sis, Great job on Xtrain's bis and tris rnd 4-9 and Core 2 and Tabatacise 1. You are doing so well. You must/better be, very proud of yourself. Yea. It's so nice to hear about the progress you are making concerning the Tennis Elbow.

Cindy, So cool you recorded the routine so you can learn it with her and practice it at home together. Grest job on X10 Step. Also for putting away Halloween.

Take care ladies,

Janie

11-7-13

Last night was a grooling pt session. She really dug into the scar tissue but my arm is feeling good today. :)

Tonight I'll be doing a premix that I haven't tried yet in Great Glutes. I'm holding off on any high impact cardio until I get new sneakers either this weekend or from Amazon. I only wear Ryka's so I'll check out what new ones they have on Amazon. I must've slept wrong b/c I have a stiff neck today.

Janie Sis: I just knew something was up with your foot/ankle. I'm glad you went to the doctor. You did really well on M1Wk1 Disc #2. Didn't know you have a spin bike. I'm jealous. I used to take spin classes at a gym in NYC. I loved it. Sending HUGS to you. Feel better.

Cindy: That's great that you recorded Lily's cheerleading routine. Good luck on practising w/her. Should be fun. Glad your enjoying the X10 workouts. I'm kind of disappointed in them but I'll use them once in a while. I always enjoyed MMA boxing. Have fun w/that one.

Michelle: did you do one of the Burn Sets today?

Waves to Laura!

Take care ladies,
Kathy

Tonight was Pedal Power premix 1. 40 min. It felt good! Thank goodness I can do cardio.

Using a peeler I peeled zucchini and topped it off with avocado and topped that off with seared Salmon in coconut oil. Then topped that off with a curry sauce. MMMM Delicious! Followed mostly the recipe but had to change it a bit and it worked. For desert we had a cup of homemade low sugar yogurt strawberry ice cream. Not on Paleo diet, but it works for us. I used milk kefir and Greek yogurt with fresh strawberries and froze it in one cup containers.

Kathy Sis, Sometimes hurting like you did needs to be done. So sorry The PT hurt you and so glad it's better today. Sleep well tonight and rest your neck. I've never took a spinning class. I bet it is FUN! Thank you for the hugs.

Take care,

Janie

11-8-13

Last night I did Great Glutes Timesaver standing only premix. Arm hurt slightly holding onto an 8# db but not terrible. Had a good workout. Tomorrow will go to Modell's to check out sneakers as well as on Amazon.

Janie Sis: Happy that your able to do cardio & Pedal Power no less. I'm jealous that you have a spin bike. Wish I had one. Hope you have a speedy recovery for your foot. I checked out that book of yours Against All Grain. Awesome recipes. Your dinner is making me hungry. It sounds delish & I'm glad you & DH enjoyed it. I'll have to purchase this book. I had kidney stones 2 years ago, one of which is still inside me. I'm very restricted too on my diet like you are. I have to be practically gluten free so this book is right up my alley. Thx for telling me about it.

TTYT,
Kathy

Tonight was Meso 1, disc 3, legs. Hard work with a sore foot, but I did it with modifications. I'll ice it tomorrow. Ate Paleo all day until tonight and had our strawberry frozen yogurt. Hmmmmm LOL

Kathy Sis
, What does TTYT stand for? Great job on last nights Great Glutes timesaver standing only premix. Enjoy finding your shoes. Must be scary knowing you have a kidney stone in your body. I haven't checked out what diet to eat with a kidney stone. If it's Paleo, then you are in for a great surprise. It's wonderful and you will feel fabulous in no time at all. I understand for a lot of people (not me) that the toxins come out the body in various ways, just be prepared; symptoms of diarrhea, headache, flu like symptoms occur. If it does I hear it doesn't last long. Just a heads up. Most people tolerate it well.

Take care,

Janie

After a week of yoga and another rest day yesterday, I couldn't take it anymore: back to Cathe today. But taking it slow. Did Basic Step, Burn Sets Chest, and Stability ball abs. My leg feels better doing a light cardio but I'm going to ease back into it. Still don't have my normal flexibility but one day at a time.

Raked leaves again today. I think the worse of my leaf raking is over. Sister gets annoyed with me because I really don't have many trees or leaves to rake but I'm pretty anal about the whole thing. Sister, on the other hand, has loads of trees and leaves which is why I annoy her on this topic. It's nice having a sister you can annoy once in a while but know that you still love her and she loves you. (Hi sister: I know you are lurking:p).

Janie: Pooh! A sprained ankle. Well, now at least you know and have a get well plan. It is a good time of the year to watch the eating habits--good for you! I have not tried Pedal Power yet. Sounds like a good workout.

Cindy: I do like the X-10 Step workout. I'm glad you mentioned X-10. Those will be good workouts for me to do (just the single ones) while I'm easing back into things this month. Lily is lucky to have a mom who can keep up with her and be a cheer buddy.

Kathy: good idea to hold off on any intense cardio until you get your new Rykas. You seem to enjoy Great Glutes. Did you consider doing Cathe's November rotation? Did anyone? I took a look at it and decided that the way my glute and iliopsoas are feeling that I would pass on that one this month. Looks like a real tough rotation. How much longer do you think you will be doing the PT for your arm?

Hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday.
Michelle

Rest day today. Cooked and kitchen stuff all day long. Paleo Banana Bread, Coconut milk and butter/oil, Almond flour. Then using the drained coconut and almonds I'm dehydrating them for coatings for chicken and pork. Spaghetti squash made into dinner with Spaghetti sauce. Yummmmy! Guess you know what we had for dinner.

Michelle, Great job on a week of yoga and a rest day. I know what you mean about Cathe, just can't beat her. She's so good at what she does. Great job on today's Basic Step, Burn Sets chest, and stability ball abs. It's a huge thing to ease into it. Can't beat it and saves on a lot of injury. Wise choice. Flexibility will come.;) Also on RakeMax. I love my sissies too.;)

Take care,

Janie
