Getting Our Licks In!

Hi everybody. Today after walking Ripken, I did IMAX3. I knew it was my workout for today, and it took just about the whole walk with Rip to get myself psyched to tackle it. Gosh, that's a hard workout. I did okay on the first 5 intervals, but the last 5 my legs were feeling it and I wasn't remembering the choreography. I'm not sure I've done this one more than once or twice before. I'll have to go back and check. Guess that means I need to give it a go again, soon. Ripken was all about getting his licks in this morning after I finished IMAX3.

Laura: sorry to hear that you were not feeling well. I hope you are over the bout of nausea. I would have given up--you are a real trooper.

Shoegal: Gracie is so cute. I'm happy for her and proud of you for being so loving and brave. The pictures of Gracie are great.

Janie: sourdough bread sounds yummy. Let us know how much work Rolly does in the garden. I'm assuming that you will be assigning him to digging duty.

Hi to Elle and Shadowpup.
Okay--back to work. Hope everyone is having a great Thursday.

Hi! Luckily the nausea was a fleeting thing and it did go away, I was wondering if all the spinning in the LM was making me feel bad! She does a lot of spinning around in that routine. So I did go to the two parties and had a nice time, although the kids got to bed super late.

I had trouble waking up this morning, I slept terribly last night, but needed to get up to meet my friend at Brainard lake for her first wedding activity which was a hike. Unfortunately her family was incredible unorganized and unmotivated so me and the girls scramble to get there on time and then had to sit around for over 1 and 30 minutes! I was not happy at all, I have a tone of things to do before I leave town and really didn't need to be sitting around doing nothing, on top of it was terribley windy, which I don't enjoy either,we finally get going and it's 12:30 half way into the hike and my girls need to eat...UGH! The trail was still snow covered in places or sopping wet ground and with the wind chill it was just basically unpleasant!

Sorry for the rant but it really did annoy me! I would have loved to slept longer and gotten stuff done around the house!

Hope the rest of the wedding isn't like today was!

I did do Plyo Legs just now. I almost didn't motivate for it, I had a dread factor, but I didn't think it was to bad at all!! :D

Hi all! What an odd week I am having.

This morning, I was supposed to be at a local conference, and instead ... an emergency root canal :eek::eek::eek::eek:

Turns out I have/had a badly cracked tooth. The crack widened to the point it couldn't be ignored, so I skipped the first half of the conference in favor of visiting the dentist, got that done, took advantage of the numbness to return to the conference for a few hours ... and as the painkillers began to wear off, went home. Tomorrow will be a light day.

Just wanted to let you know why I am not writing much right now! The odd thing is that I hadn't realized I had so much pain. Hadn't consciously registred it at all. The level crept up on me, and it wasn't til the dentist numbed my jaw that the sense of relief made me realize what was going on ... this explains that general run-down feeling I've had! Good thing that this happened while I was near home, at a time when my usual dentist could see me right away, and he had a cancellation that morning which allowed an immediate fix. Talk about lucky! I was very fortunate. Lucky in the sense that needing a root canal can ever be considered lucky

Shoegal, what wonderful pictures of Gracie. Thanks so much sharing them. What a special dog, and how great that you held out for the perfect forever home for her.

More later, I am going to go back to lying down

Good Friday morning!

Ah, my scheduled "rest day". Ahhh.

My first group karate class was interesting and fun. Often forgetting to say "sir" in my answers to Master Ally. He will repeat his question until you follow up with "yes sir" or "thank you sir" or whatever the case may be. The class starts out with jumping jacks, mountain climbers, push-ups...EASY stuff. Then you have to try and get into a split and hold it for 30 seconds. ROFLMAO! Yeah, well, I have never been very flexible, so I wasn't getting very far, but I tried, and that's all that matters. Then we worked on simple/basic moves. How to ward off people harassing/pushing you. How to emobilize them etc. I was somewhat clumsy on these things, but with practice, I am sure I will get it. Had to think too much, which may be my problem...over thinking. Then we worked on kicks, and holding/balancing on one leg while the other one is extended. My balance on my right side (left leg out) is much better then the opposite. Perhaps I will work on that today. I had two boys that I teach in my class! The age ranges from 4 to 40's or 50's but it is mostly younger kids. But all in all, I felt pretty good about it. Received my white belt! OK, so thats not too impressive since everyone gets their white belt after the first group class, but, hey, you gotta start somewhere.

Yow, ShadowPup, a root canal. I would have died! I don't do dental procedures AT ALL! Can barely get through a cleaning without breaking out into a sweat. Glad you were able to get things taken care of in a timely manner.

Laura...how very inconsiderate of the wedding party. I hope you let whoever know, that this really wasn't exceptable...of course, in a nice "southern" way.

Life has no smooth road for any of us; and in the bracing atmosphere of a high aim the very roughness stimulates the climber to steadier steps, till the legend, over steep ways to the stars, fulfills itself. W. C. Doane

Today was a nice walk this morning with Ripken followed by a stretch and my body was so happy afterwards.

Shadowpup: wow, sorry to hear about the tooth problem. It sounds like you've been so busy that you have not been listening to certain parts of your body. Happy to hear that you were able to get the root canal and are on the mend.

Laura: ugh, I hate when you hurry up to make a scheduled activity and then the other party is hugely late. So, not fair to you and your girls. I can't believe you are still dealing with snowy patches in some places. Our snow from February is a very distant memory. Nothing but warmth and sunshine here.

Gosh, I got distracted, then the phone rang, and totally forgot I was doing this. Guess that means I better sign off and come back later.

Haven't done a workout since my grandson has been here. Rightr? No motivation I guess. I walk Rolly only if it's not raining. Oh Dear, got to get back in the swing of things.

I did heavy duty garden work today for almost 3 hours. Sweaty and dirty. Took a scrub bath today. Had to, Peayou.LOL:rolleyes: Rolly was a good boy about not digging holes, and also scared all the garder snakes away. He's such a good boy.

Shoegal, Great job on LIC. I need to do that one soon again. It's getting dusty on my shelf. Thanks for the positive note about Sid and Tina. I don't envy them at all right now. Poor kids.:( It will take a lot of time still.

I made my own sourdough culture and baked bread from it by hand. It's the only way I know to get a truly healthy bread. I never have to buy yeast from the store, I have wild yeast from my own back yard.

Michelle, The IMAX's are absolutely great workouts. Very tough. I bet Ripken enjoyed his licks today! Sounds like you enjoyed that walk with Ripken.:D I love walking my doggy too. Isn't it pleasant?

Laura, I know about the dread factor, I'm in a middle of one. Jeesh! Tomorrow is another day, perhaps it will be good one for workouts. Great job on those Plyo legs. Those are hard! Good job on the stretches.:)

So glad that you are feeling better.

Rant all you like. That's one of the reason why we are all here. It sounded like an awful day sitting around doing nothing. Hope tomorrow will bring you a wonderful day.

Deborah, OMG! I hear a root canal is not a very nice thing to go through, but thank goodness all is good again. I'd say you were very lucky to get your dentist at the right time.;) Hoping you feel better now.

Renee, Really, you have to say "sir" or "thank you sir'? Is it to show respect? Karatee sounds like it would be so much fun to do. Hmmmmm. I wonder if we have anything like that in this very small town of ours. So, white belted lady, sounds like you did a great job.

Have a great rest of the evening everyone,

Janie

Hi all,

Thanks for the good wishes! Yes, root canals will never rate on my list of favorite things, but it could have been so much worse ... I have progressed from having to eat only pureed foods to perhaps being up to scrambled eggs for dinner. It is a good thing I have that high quality protein powder :D Chocolate powder plus blueberries makes a very nice shake :D

Michelle, yes , clearly a case of not paying attention. Sigh. I'd put it down to work stress and a little disorientation from the travel. And here I thought I'd been doing better with my time management!!!

Janie, it can be hard to get the energy up for workouts on top of nearly half a day of gardening! You are still burning calories. But perhaps one of the nice stretchy-lengthening-ballet-style workouts would be fun? If your back feels as mine does after a day of bending/weeding/hauling, that could be just the ticket!

Renee, I did karate for a few years and worked up to brown belt before my sensei moved away ... never found anyone I liked as much, but I really miss it. It's on my list of things to do when/if I ever get a regularized schedule. We also had a very formal setting. Bowing on entrance and to senior students, "yes sensei", and so on - a very traditional dojo. Loved learning the katas, one after another, and also the avoidance/escape drills. I actually do use some of the moves when on travel, avoidance and so on. And have used the jujitsu to save myself in falls. It's great you've gotten started on that path and I hope you continue to love it.

BTW, the Ilaria dvds have great form for kicks and so on; of all my regular dvds, they are the closest to an actual class. Many of the others are good but are more boxing-oriented (Staehle's latest is great but very boxing-style). But some sensei dislike having their students go to other sources to learn, so it might be safer to ask.

Janie, you are continuing to have quite a time! Garden snakes! Speaking of out doors, did you find a useful gps? I noticed a few on Amazon that seemed aimed at the geocaching crowd, and they ought to be good for woods walking also. Rolly is clearly doing his job by his mom. Very good of him. What a wonderful home he has!

Laura, how is the rest of that wedding going? Can't blame you for being irritated about that delay. What with everything you do, wasting an hour and a half is really annoying.

oops, dinner, better finish up later :)

I am going to be super busy here for awhile so will pop in when I can...

Friday, no workout, I had a facial early am in Boulder, and wedding errands until the Wedding Blessing began, which was an absolutely lovely, yesterday I squeezed in 1/2 of Meso Cycle 3 week 1, chest and back before we had to go to the rehersal, my DH shows up with these beautiful long stem Red Roses, 12 of them, and as he walks toward me I thought how sweet he bought the bride roses, but instead he hands them to me.
I said "you bought me flowers?"
He said "Yes"
I said "Why?"
He said "Because it is our 12th Anniversary!!""
:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

I had totally forgotten with everything else going on with the wedding, my BD, Father's Day, and leaving on Tuesday for a week!

My wonderful friends insisted on us going to the Gold Hill Inn, where we had our reception, and my friend will have her reception, while they took the kids to the rehersal dinner! We had a lovely dinner and enjoyed ourselves completely!

Today we had brunch in town, ran some errands and Daddy and the girls snuggled up to a movie while I squeezed in 4DS LIS step only premix and finished up the second half of the chest/back workout, core max segement one, and stretch from 4 DS LIS.

Trying to undo the damage I am doing with all these parties

MY DH is telling time to go!

It feels like August and it's only June. Oh boy. Ripken and I are going to have to get up a little earlier this week so we can get our long walk in before the sun comes all the way up. Today is a break day--had to come in to work early. Over the weekend, I did travel fit on Saturday and the standing legs/glutes and abs premix from butts and guts on Sunday.

Janie: dog walks absolutely are the best. If you get as hot and sweaty working in the garden as I do, then you are burning some calories. I don't garden too much though:eek:, not my cup of tea.

Laura: that was sweet of your DH. Happy Anniversary.

Shadowpup: I know you've got a full schedule, but it sounds like you need to take a break and relax a little. Even energizer bunnies have to recharge every once in a while.

Hi to Elle-P, Shoegal, and sister.

Did everyone have a nice weekend? Friday evening - I forced  DH into finishing the railing on the deck - looks nice. Then we started to dig up the garden to plant more canna bulbs that the dogs had dug up. The neighbors came by in the middle of that - (me completely filthy as is my custom when I garden) and wanted to go to dinner - so we did. We wanted to go wine tasting with them this weekend but they said they had other plans - so some other time. Rex and I went ourselves though - with our girls who were super good. Wine tasting makes me sleepy - but I'm finding nearly everything does anymore. Riding in the car makes me sleepy too!!! Geesh - let me watch a movie - that puts me to sleep for sure!! So had a nice long day doing that up in Erie. (Bad batch of Riesling grapes - no good Rieslings out there - Yuk! :p)

Sunday - Rex made me breakfast and we went kayaking - let the girls run in Lake Arthur (the shallow parts) - love watching them swim and play. :D:D:D
We went to lunch afterwards at North Country Brewery - fun and yummy - we sat on their patio - so the girls were there too. Then - went round to buy some plants - went home and gardened. :D:):D:) Planted more bulbs - cut back dead, "sat on" plants - and planted couple of other things we had bought. Looks better - all in all - I love to garden - I was thinking I would have the best looking yard if I could just stay home - day in and day out - one sunny day after another and dig and plant and dig and plant & weed & trim some more. Went to Mom's for birthday party for my nephew who just turned eighteen!! Wow. Other nephew, I discovered got both ears pierced. Goodness - I suppose it isn't up to me what he does with his ears but oh my. We played Badmitton though - three really intense games - and loved it!!

Laura - Wow - Bo did well for your anniversary - sounded like a special evening. Happy Anniversary!!! What is a wedding blessing? Weddings tend to differ from place to place - different traditions - first time I have heard of it????? So how was the wedding??? I'd love to hear!!!!

Shadowpup - Root Canal!!! So sorry. Dental problems are the worst - I hate sitting for an hour with my jaw open - it hurts!! Glad you are on the mend and moved up to scrambled eggs!

Renee - It sounds as if your first class was interesting and fun. I'm thinking of all the remarkable new skills you are learning - and then applying these same principles to everyday life sometimes unknowingly - I wonder how it is going to affect you??? Sure sounds exciting though.

Janie - We all get in exercise slumps - I never tend to stop completely but I do sometimes slack off in my intensity and regularity. Like now.:eek::eek::( but I know we will all get back into the swing of things. I have made a pledge to plan out my workouts this week and to do them - along with keeping on track with my eating. I plan to lose 6.5 lbs before my family vacation.

Michelle - boating this weekend??? It would have been a good weekend for us too - decided on a smaller boat though. We have been making fun at the marina up there - Rex says - it would be a good day to go out sailing. I said -No - you have to have to linger over breakfast for a couple of hours talking about going sailing first. It is probably unfair of me but that is all that Catalina Club seems to do - sit around and eat - hardly ever see them out boating. :)

Elle - How did your weekend go - staying on track???

Happy First Day of Summer! Wow! Seems like so much has happened with all of you since i last checked-in!
Thursday i did yoga and Friday i did a premix from LIC. I think it was Body Blast timesaver or something.
Saturday i was busy doing errands and shopping and Sunday i went to a BBQ so i didn't get in any workouts.

Shoegal: Gracie is adorable! I can see why it was so hard to say goodbye.

Janie: All that yardwork and walking Rolly should count as exercise. Glad to hear you are getting back on track after your grandson's visit though.

Shadowpup: Sorry to hear about your root canal. Definitely no fun but i'm glad to hear you are on the mend.

Laura: Happy anniversary! Your hubby sounds so sweet! I'm glad you had a nice time together.

Renee: Congrats on getting started with Karate! If you keep working on your splits they will come pretty quickly. You really do have to work on them daily though. Were your students suprised to see you there?

Michelle: It's going to be a hot, humid week here as well. I don't mind the heat but the humidity really zaps my energy.

Have a great day everyone!

What a busy, fun weekend everyone seems to have had, inlcuding me!

Saturday I did STS 31, BodyMax 2 Cardio Blast and Karate. Karate is fun. I really like the "honor" and the "discipline" to it. I can see how it could help give certain kids/people direction and focus in a positive way. Had my parents over for dinner, and then I was out the door to watch a dance recital. Many of my school kids were in this recital. Very impressive!

Sunday, all I did was High Step Training! Had not done that one in many, many months. I figured it wouldn't be so bad with all the high intensity stuff that I do. HA! It just about killed me. Glad to do it, get it done and forget about it. Later that day I went to my other sisters for an afternoon get together with the parents...it was nice. Then in the evening, my sister and I went to a summer solistice celebration. Very fun! Good food, nice ceremony, and lots of drumming 'round the bonfire.

This morning I got up early as usual but was "slow". Ended up doing STS 33 (bi's, tri's and shoulders) That gave me direction and focus and don't feel so groggy. I plan on doing a light cardio, probably a 30-40 minute step routine in just a bit, and then I have karate tonight.

Life is good. Staying busy. Very happy.

Our minds are as different as our faces: we are all traveling to one destination; --happiness; but few are going by the same road.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Hi all,

Headed out of here - business trip (planned), and then my new political 'hobby' starts up. Did Power Hour yesterday, just the upper body, so both upper and lower have worked hard now and I can go to just my TRX :)

Hopefully I can check in once or twice this week!

Take care and have fun :D

Hi Everyone,

It was a busy day yesterday for Father's Day. Went to our favorite restaurant and enjoyed ourselves.

Today Joey and I did the usual, and I added in Cardio and Weights. Whew! That was wonderful.

Hope everyone had a great couple of days. See you all tomorrow.

Janie

Greetings and Salutations!

Yesterday was a nice day. Lots of exercise, after STS, I got my 30 minutes of step in, stayed inside out of the heat and even took a nap! And then had my karate class at 7. There were about 15 students there last night, age ranging from 5-50. Two-thirds were 'big' people, so I was very pleased to get the purple stripe award for attitude and best effort. I must admit I did kick butt. Thats what we started to work on last night, was kicking. And thank you Cathe, for helping with form, because my kicks were high and I definately had the intensity. We did 2 types, a regular forward kick and then a forward thrust kick alternating leads. We also reviewed stuff. It was great!

Today it looks like I will be going biking with some friends. A 13 mile circuit, easy. Then my Cathe for today is IMAX 2 and/or Insanity. I want to definately get IMAX 2 in, and we will see about any insanity. Looks like I may have a hike planned for Friday too! Oh boy!

First say to yourself what you would be; and then do what you have to do.

Hello everyone -

I did Still Steppin by Chrisi Taylor last night - and Oh boy what a great workout - so much fun - tons of fun - the hour flew by in the blink of an eye. I was so pumped up afterwards that I wanted to rewind and do the last part of it again!!! That's a recommendation for you. I can't praise this workout enough for the creative innovative and interesting step that Christi does. I just absolutely loved it.

Afterwards I went out and gardened - again! I found some poison ivy - so ran inside to hose myself down in an attempt to ward off the ivy. I get it every year - never fails - the wind just has to blow and I'm infected. Oh well - one of the perils of working in the garden I suppose. I've been staying toward the more civilized side of the garden recently but I will soon need to branch out and do the wilder sections. DH came home from the store - he bought some flags for the 4th - I put them in our planters - really looks festive.

Raining here again - :( good for the flowers though.

Today is our 19th Anniversary. Yea! We are celebrating with with a Turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Busy in the kitchen, but I love cooking anyways. Will also have a berry cobbler made of strawberries and raspberries from our garden last year. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

I did Step Moves today. Also, planning on some yoga, for my way of stretching.

Renee, There are Karate classes here in this small town of ours. Should I see them? Is it fun? You are making me want to do this. It sounds so cool.

Enjoy your bike ride and friends. It sounds like so much fun. Those are some heavy duty workouts you are planning. Have fun with them too.

Shoegal, Great job with Christi, she does have a fun factor with lots of energy. Job well done.

OoooooH, poison ivy sounds nasty. We don't have that here, but we do have nettles.

Been raining here as well.:( Can't do much outside, poor Rolly is suffering for it. He has this energy that need attention.

Take care and have a great rest of the day.

Janie

Well, it's a dark, gloomy, rainy day here. I weighed in at WW at lunchtime and i lost 1.8lbs last week.:D I'm happy with that since i went to a BBQ on Sunday and made an effort to eat in moderation.

Yesterday I did not manage to get in a workout (again).:( After work i went to my brother's house for dinner to meet my new nephew who was just born on Friday. He is so cute! They still haven't named him which is a lttle weird so hopefully they decide on a name soon!

Janie: HAPPY ANNIVERSAY!:) Your feast sounds so yummy! Enjoy.

Renee: Your quote for today is on today's page of my WW tracking notebook. How weird is that? Your summer has only just begun but it sounds like you are having a great time and keeping busy.

Shoegal: I am so not a gardener! I love sitting in a beautiful garden to read or meditate but i can do without all the work.:p My mom is always gardening and it's so peaceful to sit and enjoy her backyard.

Have a great day!

Where is everybody?? Where is Michelle?

Alright, last night I did Muscle Max - all 68 minutes of it. I found myself really struggling during some parts of it. I also thought - about 3/4 of the way through -it is me alone in my workout space - one on one with Cathe and crew - it is kind of nice. :) I got it done and was very pleased. Tonight I plan on doing ASC I with Amy Bento - it is a bit shorter but my DH is supposed to take me out for my birthday so I wanted to get something in and not have it take over an hour. Hopefully I won't splurge too awful bad.

I gardened - yet again. Well, I was trimming. Rex and I have a completely different idea about how to maintain the yard. He pulled out the round up and said - do you have any place you want it sprayed? I mentioned the place where I ran into poison ivy - anything else I can just pull out. He sprays it around the fire pit - which is ridiculous. So instead of trimming back the grass I can watch it die all week long?? How is that a good idea?!!!

Elle - Congrats on your new nephew - well perhaps they are thinking of the perfect name - enjoy him - in the blink of an eye he'll be 18. Congrats also on the weight loss - you did good. I know how difficult it is to control yourself when there is lots of food around. My nephew's graduation party is Saturday and I'm wondering if I'll be able to control myself. You either do it or you don't - I have to make the commitment & follow through.

Janie - Happy Anniversary!!! Your turkey dinner sounds super - Yum. That is a bit of work for the 2 of you - but it is worth it - to make it special and to celebrate.

Hello to everyone else out there - Laura, Michelle, Shadowpup & Renee!! Hopefully everyone is enjoying their week. It is sunny here today!! :D
