Getting Our Licks In!

I got home pretty late last night and really just wanted to go to bed. I also did not want to have another day with no workout so i told myself to just do 30 minutes which seemed very reasonable at the time. So i managed to fit in 30 minutes of LoMax before going to bed. Better than nothing. I guess on long days like that, you fit in what you can.

Michelle: I do love yoga and that's part of the reason i stopped doing other workouts for a while. It's hard to fit in everything and I was trying to focus on my yoga practice. I do a more traditional style of yoga based on the teachings of Swami Sivananada. That's also the style i teach.

Laura: You are one busy lady! I like how you manage to squeeze in your workouts where you can. I have to change my way of thinking and do what i did yesterday. Usually if i can't do the whole thing i end up doing nothing but i'm going to try and fit in shorter workouts when it gets hectic rather than do nothing at all.

Janie: i hope you were able to enjoy the nice sunny day like you planned. Rolly sounds so cute trying to play with the kitties. I can just picture them barely tolerating this happy, friendly pup that just wants to play.

Have a great day everyone!

Did MMA Fusion. Love it!

Summer: Starting June 26, Joey and I will be East of the mountains for the Cooper family reunion. Then back home the 27th. Then a long ride the next day to Las Vegas, where there is the McBride family reunion. We will stay there with our doctor Dan son until almost the end of July. Of course celebrating Joey's birthday on the 2nd and celebrating the 4th and doing all kinds of celebrating thereafter. Joey's sister will join us after the kids leave on the 17th for a few day to a week. Busy, busy time. There will be a computer, so I will still be in touch. Sounds grand doesn't it? Can't wait.

Michelle, The June rotation looks really good. Great job!

I do love the puppy walks. Would you call a 2 year old dog a puppy? Everyone is doing it. I guess he (Rolly) is still one for awhile.

Laura, I love walks as you describe. They are the best, no hurry just leisurely. But, when I want a faster pace, I just do that as well. Where I walk is a company Christmas Trees and it feels like the wilderness to me. People around here say there are bears here. All these years I've been doing it and not once found any indication of bears, just deer. If I'm not careful, I can get lost very easily. Well, I put a marker on the trail, but somehow missed it on the way going home. I don't have any sense of direction so I had to rely on my gut feelings and try to remember by site. It was guess work for sure and I was very lucky to get back on the right trail. If I would have taken the wrong trail, it just would have made for a very long long walk and would eventually make it to a main road, (I think) but (it was scary there for little while) I made it through OK. Whew! Will have to leave better markers for sure next time.

I've never before been in the foothills, and I must say your fast walk is intriguing. High elevation and then low again.

Your classes sound very productive. Bet they were fun and your clients must have enjoyed them too!

Your rest weeks sounds like it will be a lot of intense cardio. Wow! Enjoy those wonderful hiking, biking and running. Good for you!

Your Summer sounds so lovely and very very busy! Have fun! Just remind us when you are gone so we know you are out having fun and not quitting the Forum.LOL Those Islands sounds exotic.

Elle, I fit in 30 min. a time when I can too. It is better than nothing. Sometimes I get to fit in more, but mostly 30-40 min. You did good.;)

Rolly and I did get in a very loooooonnnnnnng walk yesterday. Whew! It must have been almost two hours.

You are right, I think the kitties sometimes do barely tolerate Rolly.LOL:D

Have a good one everyone,

Janie

Just one more day of school! Everybody is looking forward to it. Tempers and tensions are high with a few co-workers. I just smile, try to stay out of the way and get along the best I can. Not always easy, but its usually what is best. Why stir the pot?

I really liked Insanity Pure Cardio...very intense. I got a cramp in my lower left abdomen with only 3 high intensity portions left. Well, I "grapevined" through one and half of it, and then just pushed it hard for no other reason then, heck, I just wanted too. Its not something I would want to do everyday, but its a nice change of pace.

Yesterday was Plyo-legs 26 from meso 3. Always intense and sweaty. Today I did Insanity Cardio Abs...it was only 16 minutes! Geesh, not enough time. So, I did MMA:Boxing Heavy Bag also. I love hitting that bag. And I needed to let out some pent up frustration from some of the "BS" from school. So glad that the end is in sight. I am ready for hiking, biking and will be taking my first Karate/kickboxing lesson next Monday evening. Can't wait!

Janie, it sounds like you have a wonderful summer planned. Good for you, does Rolly get to go too? PLEASE be careful on your hikes. Don't get lost, that could be awfully dangerous. I am luckily blessed with a good sense of direction. Some of the ladies I hike with are not, and its always funny letting them take the lead, and letting them "screw up". All in fun mind you, and would never let them go to far astray before pointing out their errors.

Wow, Elle, I don't know how you could exercise for 30 minutes and then go to bed. My body would be wired and awake after that. How do you do that?

Hello to everybody, hope everyone is doing A-OK!

Yesterday i did Muscle Endurance and i also started Weight Watchers. I really needed something to clean up my diet and i know this works. I can already see that i was eating much more than i needed to and much as writing everything down can be a bit of a chore, it definitely makes you think twice before shoving food in your mouth!:p

Does anyone have Cathe's Cross Train Express? It's on sale and i'm debating if i should get it.

Janie: I'm trying to get out of the "all or nothing" frame of mind and adapt when my routine gets thrown off and i can't do what i planned. If that means 30 minutes then i will take it.:)
When Marino was a puppy i let him off the leash in the woods and he took off. I ended up getting a little disoriented trying to find him and the woods started to look a little like the Blair Witch Project. It was also starting to get dark but i managed to find my way out by retracing my steps through the snow.
Your summer sounds like it's going to be busy but a lot of fun!

Renee: Your workouts always sound so intense! You're Hardcore (literally!):p I was so tired that i wouldn't have been able to stay awake if i wanted to that day. I was suprised i did as much of LoMax as i did since i had no energy that day. No problems falling asleep that day!

Have a great day everyone!

Hello All!!!!

Have been concentrating on finding Gracie's new home - 564 hits on PetFinder - and oh is it tough!!!! There are lots of people that contact us and say that they just lost their own GSP and want to give Gracie a good home and it breaks my heart - I wish I had lots of Gracies to give. I also LOVE her myself so I want her for me. It just that I want her to have a wonderful life and I KNOW she would have that with me - it is too iffy with the other applicants - sure they all can give her a good home too but I think - not like I could.;)

Met with a couple who lost their own GSP 2 years ago and are avid grouse hunters - which I think Gracie would like to do. But the yard is so small and fenced in and I worry she won't get the proper amount of exercise - I know they would love her - but my main concern is their available time and their space. Met a gentleman last night - he has TONS of space - 21 acre farm but he worries me in that he has these "discs" around the house that work like an invisible fence and keeps their current dog from entering some of the living areas. They aren't allowed in the kitchen, the living room, any of the bedrooms - but have like a hallway and all of the downstairs - which is a nice rec room. Gracie would also sleep down in the rec room. I think she would enjoy playing outside all day with the other dog - but I worry that she won't be enough a part of the family. Well, essentially won't love her like I could.:eek:;) I meet with a retired couple this evening.

It is pouring here!!! Yet - again.:(

So on Monday got home rather late and had no energy and actually put in Athletic Step to do - but after about a minute - I thought - this is not going to happen :eek::eek: I so did not want to post that!!! Ok - so this evening - I got an idea from this thread on VF about Volume One - and everyone was just raving about it - I thought - you know what - I'm going to do that. I thought of Janie too - she just did Vol 1 (the Firm) recently. Goodness - I love it. I could recite along with Susan Harris I've done it so often but I believe it's been years since I've last done it. It zoomed by and I so thoroughly enjoyed it. I have to say - there was this running in place -and I remember enjoying that portion but it was wierd now - I've been doing step for practically all of my cardio - I never run in place anymore - it was good to mix it up.

Elle - I am ALWAYS doing weight watchers - it is in my brain now - like exercise. I am always counting points - and yes it can be a huge pain to write it all down but it really keeps you aware. Knowing that something is a ton of points will make you think twice about eating it and plus it is a really doable lifestyle change. Good for you!!! I have Cross Train Expess - I believe there are something like 6 workouts - All Step, STep & Intervals, Kickbox, etc, etc - can't remember them all - I enjoyed them all - but not super tough - Cathe made them a bit shorter - most are under an hour. As it is Cathe - you know they are well done - it is just a matter of knowing if it is your cup of tea.

Janie - gee your summer is jam packed!!! Family, reunions, lots of visiting & traveling - it does sound grand I have to say. I know you'll enjoy yourself - do you know what you are getting Joey for his birthday? How are you celebrating the 4th? We always do Kennywood (Pittsburgh amusement park) - love it there. Very old park that has been there forever but it is still wonderful everytime we go. We bring a picnic, ride all day - then watch their firework display in the evening.

Laura - girls are out of school now? Your summer sounds packed full too - hiking & biking and doing classes - your friend's wedding - moving your mom out to Boulder and those trips - how great is that!!!! Where is Paulee Island? I'm going to look that up.

Breakfast is calling me so I'm going to go for now. :)

Joey and I did TBS and I will also be doing PLB afterwords. It's rainy outside so, no walking with Rolly.:(

Renee, I too love IPC. Wow and Whew! Modification is my middle name. Otherwise I wouldn't have been able to do so many of the workouts from Insanity. Challenging for sure. You did a really good job on that.:)

Good job on your cardio and abs workouts. You go girl! The Karate/Kickboxing sounds so interesting. Let us know how you like it.

Rolly will be going with us wherever we go. He's family. It will be a great Summer for sure.;)

I'll be more careful about hiking, I have to, I don't want to get lost at all. I hate that feeling. I wouldn't mind hiking with you with your since of direction, but, you will have to lead. LOL:D

Elle, Good for you for making changes for a healthy way of life. So very proud of you. Remember it isn't easy as you know, just don't every give up. Great job on ME, not an easy workout.

Cross Train Express are intense and shorter workouts, so when you don't have a lot of time on some days they are perfect. Heck, even if you had a lot of time and do these workouts they are perfect. Whew! They are great no matter what.:D I don't think you will regret getting them. Variety is the spice of life.

Great attitude, for when something happens in life that throws you off your workout schedule. Then you will do a shorter workout. It is better than doing nothing. 30 min. of exercise is extremely beneficial!:) Very proud of you .

Have to agree with you about being more careful in the woods.

Shoegal, Why can't you take Gracie for yourself? That's why I don't do what you are doing. I'd end up with all the animals. I have a soft heart for them. You sure have a hard job trying to find the perfect match for Gracie. Take your time, and find her the perfect home. It's out there.

LOL:D I have a variety of workouts that I just love. The Firm Vol. 1 is one of many that I just love to do. I agree, it does get you out of a rut form other exercises and on to something that a body will get confused. Which is a good thing. What can I say, I'm an exercise video nut.:D:rolleyes:

I have no idea what to get Joey for his birthday. Hmmmmmm. Maybe a show at Las Vegas, since we'll be there for almost the whole month.

We'll be celebrating the 4th and watching the fireworks off the balcony of my sons house. We did that once on a New Years Eve. Will have to get the binoculars out though. Should be beautiful.

Kennywoods sounds absolutely nostalgic and so much fun! I bet you will have as much fun now as you did in the past. Enjoy!

Deborah, How are you doing? Haven't heard from you for a little while.

Have a great day everyone,

Janie

Shoegal, I'm with Janie...if I did a rescue, or was fostering an animal, more then likely it would become mine. I am such a sucker for animals. I am currently feeding two "stray" cats. They are black ones too, one very similar to my beloved Noodles. Can't help it, gotta feed them or I wouldn't be true to who I am. I even put Frontline on the one who lets me pet him. He needed it badly, and I am sure the shy Noodle-look-alike needs it too, but she won't let me to close. I do know that the short haired one is male and I think the long-haired one is a girl, but I am not 100%. Good luck with Gracie.

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL! Its all over now. Hip Hip Hooray!!! There are two teacher work days, but they will be painless and not ALL day.

I've been alternating between two rotations. I think I will combine them now! Double the fun!!! I've done week 1 of 2010 Get Ready for Summer and I am finishing week one of STS/Insanity. I will combine week 2 to the best of my ability. The funny thing is day 4 on one rotation is day 3 on the other...PLYO-LEGS! Uh, gonna have to tweek that I'm afraid. LOL.

Janie, you might consider a compass or even a GPS when you hike. Nothing wrong with knowing your limitations and taking the proper precautions. Getting lost in the woods or wherever doesn't sound like a whole lot of fun.

The end of wisdom is to dream high enough not to lose the dream in the seeking of it.

I decided that I needed to stop and smell the roses, which means checking out our check-in group. It's been a couple of very hectic days and I need to stop and take some deep breaths and relax. Ahhhh. Feeling better.

Didn't get to exercise yesterday. Up early, at Quantico all day, came home mid afternoon, worked until 6, walked Ripken, and gave up any thoughts of doing IMAX2. I just didn't have it in me. I was stressing over missing exercise and then just let it go. What's the point of letting something I love drive me crazy because my schedule doesn't allow it one day? This morning was a nice walkabout with my pup and then SuperSets. Explosive lunges anyone? If I stick to the rotation, tomorrow is Kick, Punch and Crunch. OR, I can do IMAX2 and shift KPC to the weekend. I'm leaning toward IMAX2.

Elle-P: Cross train express is a great dvd. Cathe says the workouts are shorter, Some are but some are almost an hour. I really like cross train express and highly recommend it. Leaner legs is one of my favorite lower body workouts.

Shoegal: Sounds like you haven't found the right home for Gracie yet. When you do, you will know it in your heart and in your gut. And just maybe, the right home for Gracie is with you. I know that's not really helping.

Janie: Your summer is jammed packed again. And I believe our grown up dogs are still our pups. Ripken is 9 years old and he can still act like a goofy puppy. He can also act like a 9-year old dog. But he will always be my pup.
Joey really does like TBS. That's cute.

Sister: school's out--enjoy your summer. Guess you'll be doubling up on your workouts now? You go girl!

Hi to Laura and Shadowpup.
~michelle

Well yesterday was abnormally overcast with a low cloud cover and cooler temperatures, so I decided to opt out of my 'planned' bike ride after my Pilates class and came home and did some Clean Max instead.

For some reason my quads are sore, which I don't get, unless it is from my Pilates Classes. I sometimes forget how much work is demanded in a Mat class! Silly Instructor!! LOL!

I did get my first ride in of the season in today on a ride I do often down in Boulder (the girls had a playdate after school so it gave me some free time) I have to say at first I was feeling a little old, and a little chicken, for single track, especially with clip in shoes (which I am still not comfortable with), but around mile 8 something clipped and I found the flow of the track and was in pure bliss for the rest of the ride!

Elle: I am so PROUD of you to do a little bit even when you were tired and didn't feel like it! Way to commit! You got to do what you can when you can, that is the reality of life! I know weight watches has one of the highest success rates of any weight loss program! What is your goal? I have 20 stubborn lbs that just don't seem to want to come off of me and Goodness knows it isn't from a lack of exercising!! LOL! I love ME, I don't have X-train Xpress but have always wanted it for it's variety so maybe I will get it for my B-day!

Janie: Please be careful on your walks! I think a GPS unit is a good idea if you are going to be going of the beaten track in bear country. Sounds like a delightful summer full of family and loved ones. Unfortunately nothing tropical about the islands. Whidbey is WA state and Paullee Is. is on the coast of the Carolinas hoping the oil doesn't get up there!:(

Shoegal: got to agree with everyone else that I don't think I could handle the fostering of 4 leggeds but I am so glad that you seem to have a nack for it, poor things really need it! I hope the right couple/family comes along, but gosh how can you decide. In college my (now) DH and I cam across this cute little stray puppy and took him in a for a few days, we DH finally convinced me to take him to the Pound, and I still think about him from time to time. I hope he found a new home...:(

Catchick: you are rocking it for sure! I to am blessed with a great sense of direction. Once I have been some place I can go there again with no issues and I seem to have an internal sense of knowing where I am in space. Every once in awhile I have gotten turned around and I find it the most discomforting sensation ever.

Michelle: yes don't let exercise be a chore, that razor edge we have to walk between listenting to our bodies and working out when we don't want to and and taking breaks when we really need them!

Hi to Shadow pup!

ALready loving the new schedule of (teacher work days) summer. Don't have to be to school until 8:30 or 9:00 so I opted to do a light step workout early this morning. I did the step portion of CTX-All Step. A good 30 minutes of cardio. My rotation says Insanity Recovery...thats only 33 minutes...watched it last night and thought, "hmm, thats really not gonna be enough." So, thats why I did some cardio this morning. I will save Insanity Recovery for the afternoon. Its 33 minuntes of moderate exercise. All in all, it will be a good day, an hour of exercise in "chunks", throughout the day.

Sister, go for IMAX 2! Nothing beats step!

Today I ran my 'easy' route in boulder for around 45 minutes and a little over 4 miles! It felt nice. It was cool in the morning @71 so not to hot at all!

I need to get some stretching in this week sometime.. My DH left this morning for his 20th HS reunion so it is just me and the girls. One more day of school tomorrow and I am getting my hair done in the morning so will probably take the day off. My thighs are tight from my bike ride and run today..

Catchick: you are making me feel like Insanity might not be to bad if you are adding workouts to and feeling like it isn't enough!!

So Insanity Cardio Recovery is a pretty basic routine. Not too difficult but it will get a slight sweat going. A lot of stretching/yoga like exercises, some you have to hold for an eternity (or so it seems). I have now done 3 Insanity routines, and the Pure Cardio has been the most intense. The Abs and Recovery...basic and, not enough time or intensity for me.

Gotta go in to school to help with the Cumulative Folders. Everybody double checks the student folders to make sure all documentation and forms are present. Very easy and painless and done within an hour. Then SummerTime can officially commence! Who-hoo!

Already have the first hike planned at Crab Tree Falls in Nelson County, VA for Wednesday. I haven't done that hike in a few years. Should be fun!

Karate begins Monday night and doubling up my rotations begin tomorrow. Ah, life is good!

Happiness is not achieved by the conscious pursuit of happiness; it is generally the by-product of other activities. Aldous Huxley

Hello everyone -

Not a good workout week for me :(. On Wednesday I did another home visit - met this retired couple - Rex and I just loved them. They were very active and their son and daughter in law had 2 GSPs who were over all the time. They had a very lard yard with an easy 2 acre area with an invisibile fence installed - they also own a camp, an additional 14 acres adjacent to their yard - a cottage up by a lake - they hunt regularly and they were just dog people. The two dogs bounded up in their laps and sat in between the 2 of them. :) We just adored them. We left there and drove down their driveway and then immediately drove back to tell them that Gracie was theirs. We arranged for them to come and get her on Tuesday - it was funny but these 2 were so busy being retired they barely had time to fit that into their week!!! So I felt VERY good about them but also extremely sad for me. Oh how I love that girl - I know she'll be very happy with them and loved and I feel certain that she'll have a good life - but I can't help but feel a tremendous loss. She follows me around and looks to me as her Mama and it breaks my heart that in the future she may look for me - and I won't be there. :(:(:(:(:(:(:( When we left there - I just sobbed all the way home and there is a little crying going on now.

I have to get over it - I know what everyone is saying - this IS hard but Rex says we can help 20 dogs not just the 2 we have by fostering. I can't help but think there are so many great homes out there based on the overwhelming response for Gracie.

Anyway got home very late so no exercise. :( Yesterday - I came home and GARDENED!!! Happy to have done it - and I was weeding and watering and trying to make the mess Gracie created into something manageable. I couldn't plant anything because Gracie would just sit on it and flatten it all down. I have tell you that she definitely doesn't know "GET OUT OF THE GARDEN!!!!" She just looks at me with her tongue hanging out with a happy go lucky expression on her face. I did Atheltic Step later on. It went relatively well - will plan on making up workouts all weekend long though.

Michelle - I'm with you - all dogs to me are puppies!!! Indy was my puppy her entire life. Sometimes life does prevent us from getting that workout in - and it actually does drive me crazy a little bit. I sometimes refuse to go anywhere because I don't want to miss it - but that isn't healthy either. We certainly have to make a conscious effort to make time for it though

Catchick - I think this entire group has a soft spot for animals that's what makes it so special. :D I don't think that I won't want every single foster we bring into our home - I'm gonna try to keep my sobbing to a minimum next time. Good job on all of your workouts. I'm with Laura, you make Insanity sound relatively easy.

Laura - Where does Bo have to go to attend his HS reunion? How did you hair turn out? I think I need a cut and color myself. :D I really like the variety that you have in your exercise - running, biking - just enjoying the outdoors. That is the way to enjoy the summer.

Janie - what is TBS - you seem to do it alot - I'm thinking "Total Body Sculpting" but that sounds like a Firm workout - is this a Cathe workout??? I think I'm gonna have to do some investigating. Be careful on those walks - I'm with everyone - getting roughed up by a bear and losing your way would be just awful. Does Joey go along with you - maybe you need to take him to protect you.

Hello to Elle & Shadowpup!!

Hope everyone enjoys this weekend - perhaps it won't rain here - what a welcome change that would be. :D:D:D

This week has just flown by. Yesterday, I did IMAX2 (will shift KPC to the weekend) and this morning was Body Max 2. Whew! One hour and 40 minutes later; you feel like you've done 2 workouts. I love the step portion of Body Max 2. Love the music. Did the workout early and then ate, so I'm not having the issues that I did last week when I did BM mid-morning with no breakfast beforehand. That was so not bright.

Shoegal: I'm happy that you and Rex found Gracie a great new family. But sad for you too that you will have to let go of your new girl. Just remember, before long, you will have a new foster pup. More opportunities to love and help puppies find great homes. So, I guess Rex does have a point, after all.

Laura: I've got a hair appointment at the end of the month too. That's my "me time." I guard that appointment because it is two hours of all about me at my hairdressers. We've got to have time like that.

Sister: you are probably at home contemplating your afternoon workout. Or maybe you are doing something fun with some of your teacher friends. I have to admit, it would be nice to have a couple months off in the summer, but that's not the kind of job that I have. Oh well.

I'm in the office today and will be heading down to the boat this evening. Joe and Ripken will be heading over sometime during the day. Ordered some new shorts (that will fit) from Victoria Secret and they arrived on Wednesday, and then a duplicate shipping arrived yesterday. HUH? Now, we've got to send the duplicate package back. They must do this alot, because one of the reasons on the return shipping form is "duplicate shipment." Crazy.

Hi to Elle-P, Shadowpup, and Janie (soon to be known as walking with bears).
Have a great day.
~michelle

Did MMA Fusion. I love that workout. Will be doing yoga here in a minute.

Laura, I'll be careful in the woods. GPS sounds right for me. Been hiking like that for 19 years and this is the first time I kinda got lost. Good job on your boulder route. Runnying4 miles is very impressive to me.:D That kind of soreness is good.;)

Renee, Sounds like Insanity is doing well for you. It's getting the body all confused in making these routines a success I think. Yea, Summer Time! Sounds like you have a lot of planned and fun activities coming your way in the way of exercising your body. Good for you and enjoy.

Shoegal, Gracie sounds like she will have a wonderful home. Retired folks that are active (like Joe and I) are the best. Congratulate Gracie for me. You guys are doing wonderful. Yea! I'm so sorry you got attached so much to Gracie. (((((hugs to you))))), but you did help her and saved her life. You got that under your belt. Nothing better than saving a life. I'm so very proud of you.

TBS is Cathe's Total Body Sculpting. Joe is stuck on that, and really is just fine to continue with it forever. It makes him more limber and his shoulder quits hurting because of it. I'll introduce him to other workouts that are easier like The Firm Vol. one which he loves, so because of that we'll do that one too. Starting Mon.

I will be more careful out there in the woods. I promise you. I kinda got lost only once after doing it for almost 19 years. I was careless and won't do that anymore. And a GPS sounds like it would 't hurt at all. Will most likely get one.

Michelle, Great job on your routine the last couple of days. All IMAX's to me are tough! And Body Max 2 is so long (also tough). Wow! I'm (Walking With Bears) impressed. I know what you mean about eating at the right time. It's a big difference.:) Enjoy your new shorts.

I'll be more careful walking in the woods, I promise. I know not to take it for granted anymore. GPS is in the near future.

Where is our Deborah?

Janie

Hi all!

Janie, everyone, sorry to drop off the planet! I sort of forgot I had a trip this week ... it was a short one. Actually, to be perfectly honest, I was in denial about the trip. Also, it turns out that giving me a real true vacation day is a bad idea. That vacation day I took last Friday? I ended up collecting another hobby/responsibility, which has to do with politics in our state. I got elected to something related to our local party, which involved being nominated by our state senator. That is probably all I should post about that here. Just, if I ever mention going to a meeting or something for an organiztion where I'm not a member, please just say: "remember what happened last time???" and I will stay home! It is actually an honor. I'm just a little horrified at having gotten involved in politics so directly on accident

The biz trip was really productive and short, thankfully. Great weather and a lovely site near the suburbs outside of Los Angeles. Even a first class upgrade on the way out, and I was able to do a nice workout.

To top off the oddity of the past week, I also spent yesterday writing five science proposals for a really unusual organization and then preparing (and delivering) my very first commencement address! And ... you will laugh ... it was for a certificate class in Virtual Worlds, and we held it in Second Life. I practiced interacting as an avatar, wore a virtual commencement robe for the talk, and learned how to make gestures with my avatar while speaking at the same time. It is nontrivial! But it seemed very appropriate, and I really enjoyed myself. The students worked hard and this was a neat way to congratulate them.

Workouts have been a little light. One STS, one Cardio Coach, and a walk in four days. Ah well ... there is the weekend.

Shoegal, you found the absolutely perfect home for Gracie ... you brave and kind woman and strong and generous woman!!! I wish you lived nearby, because I hear you needing a ((hug)) pretty badly (actually wish every single one of us lived nearer!!!!). So ... yes. You do know this is Gracie's perfect forever home, because as Gracie's first real human mom, the first real one that she ever had in the world who cared about her welfare more than herself, you would never have let her go if that were not true. Moms always have it rough when their little ones go, no matter how long they are moms. Gracie is a little smile in your heart, and you are a little smile in hers, and you will continue to share more smiles (and tears) with more pups. It will never be easy and it will always be special. And some day you will decide that the perfect home is yours. Just not this time. ((hugs))

Renee, you launch yourself into your summer with such glee! I am loving to read your notes. You make me laugh, and want to buy a boxing set to use with MMA boxing, and go jog somewhere at top speed, all at once. And actually I did, on biz trip, because there was no elliptical and so I used the treadmill. My goodness!

Michelle, one of these days I need to repay that lunch! That was such a lot of fun - thanks for figuring out how to make our schedules work. Everyone, Michelle is athletically beautiful - Cathe-esque! - and she's fun in person too. We had a terrific time in DC :) Am strategizing when I will be in DC next. There are three-ish places I need to go, and when it hits four, I will schedule. Possibly July, as everyone disappears in August.

Janie, did something bad happen on a walk for you? Or are you just being careful? I need to go back and read all your notes again because I missed it. From cruises to ... Bears? GPS? My goodness, you are so much fun :) We really do need to find a way to take a hike sometime. There are Polar HRMs that have GPS, by the way, but mostly they seem pricy. The plus with those is that you can plot your walks, but then, only us gadget-addicts likely think that's cool :eek::eek: An iphone would also work for you, with the built in GPS, and give you a way to call for someone to find you at the same time. Bet there are other cells that would be similar.

Laura, sounds like you are keeping busy even with the lighter schedule! Are your girls enjoying the summer too???

Elle, I need to back up a page to get to your posts. Sounds like you are pushing through with your exercise, though, which is good!

Well, more soon. If I don't push REPLY soon you can bet I will lose this long post :rolleyes:

Boy, am I feeling good! I did STS 28, chest and back, SC:Step Moves and stability ball abs from KPC today! Just over 2 hours of exercise! TOWANDA! (Power cry from the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes) Oh yeah, definately a "towanda" type of morning.

ShadowPup, Michelle is definately a source of inspiration. She has always been "athletically beautiful - Cathe-esque!" in my opinion. And I've known her a long time...well, like, all my life!! I can only hope to inspire her half as much as she has me. The best sister EVER!

Shoegal...Gracie is one lucky dog! Kuddos to you and Rex. Don't stop what you are doing, its the most self-sacrificing, loving thing a person could do.

Laura hope you are enjoying the start of your summer with your girls.

Elle...how are you?

Janie, I like MMA:Fusion too. But I must admit my favortie MMA is the boxing one. I love adding the heavy bag routine in at the end.

Will walk Rolly today and that's it for me. I'll mark my paths very well, I promise.

Deborah, I kinda sorta got lost a little bit while I was out walking Rolly one day. OOPS:rolleyes: I wasn't careful enough placing my marker on the path for me to see when going back home. I should get myself a GPS, cell phones don't work where I am at. Too far away from civilization I guess and the many trees. Our neighbors say there are signs of bear here, but I haven't seen any signs at all the time we've been here. Deer yes, and other critters, but no bears here, I don't think.

Politics? As long as you enjoy yourself and make a difference, and I know you do, then that's all that matters. You are incredibly strong and can convince people to your side!

I bet you had a great time writing those 5 science proposals. How fun! I bet everyone loved it and a special way to present it for your students.

Renee, Great job on the chest and back. Step Moves and abs too? Wow, good for you! It's certainly is a TOWANDA WORKOUT!

The MMA: boxing with the bag is my favorite tool I love working with the bag, it is so unique.

Have a good one,

Janie

Hi everyone. Beautiful day on the boat. After Body Max 2 yesterday, I stuck with my day off today. I was tempted to exercise and Ripken and I have done 3 walks today, but those are more like light stretches since Ripken tends to prefer a little more leisurely pace. Looking like we might get a little rain, maybe even some thunder and lightening which means I will have Ripken in my lap. That's okay, nothing like a hundred pound dog in your lap.

Shadowpup: you are very kind and I'm looking forward to our next lunch. You, of course, are correct: the odds of me showing up in Idaho are extremely low. You have now expanded your world of activity to politics. As long as you maintain your intense passion for critical thinking, I don't think any of us have to worry about seeing your name in the news for saying something far off the scale of reason.

Sister: you are very kind as well. I am blessed to have such a wonderful and loving sister. 2 hours of exercise today--WOW! That's alot. I'm thinking I will bring my weighted vest to the boat for Butts and Guts.

Janie: I like Cathe's total body sculpting workout too. But, then I don't really think Cathe has a workout that I don't like.

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.

Well it was a very good thing that my rest week corresponded to the girls last week of school. I doubt I could have fit my exercise in with all the hoop-la! I did get one run in and one bike ride in but nothing else. Not even stretching or yoga which I was hoping for! Oh well, back at it tomorrow! I am looking forward to Meso 3!

Catchick: TOWANDA! Enjoy your hike! Where is it?

Shoegal: Oh ((((HUGS)))) I can imagine how you feel! I think Deborah said it perfectly! Maybe some good tough workouts will help you feel better? At least get the endorphins going and workout some of the sadness! I love my hair! I posted a pic on FB, you really should check it out! Bo went to Virginia outside of the DC area. He went to "The High School" which is the Episcopal High School that was an all male boarding school back in his day, but is now Co-Ed.

Michelle: Enjoy your new shorts! Show of those "Cathe-esque legs" I love getting my hair done as well! I can never make it look as good as my hairdresser does!

Janie: any workout is a good workout! I am still trying to get my DH to join me!

Shadowpup: WOW!! Politics can be a huge undertaking! I am impressed you can take it on with your full schedule. I swear that you have a way of making days longer! I just can't seem to figure out how you fit it all in! You must get up supper early and not stop moving until bedtime!
