Get away from me!

OK, is anyone besides me tired of having food practiaclly shoved at them from every direction this time of year?

I think one way to keep myself 'honest' in trying to improve my eating habits is to STAY AWAY from the foods that tempt me. But it seems everywhere I'm going these days, I'm constantly 'assaulted' by food!

I know I am very lucky to have such a 'horrible' problem, but it really is quite stressful to always be saying 'no', 'no, thank you', 'thanks, but no', etc., planning eating strategies, always picking the stupid broccoli and baby carrots off the veggie platter (no dressing, please).

Xmas food layouts at school in the teacher lounge, a spread at the barn in the boarders tack room, dinner with my in-laws for my FiL's birthday, Xmas eve dinner at my husband's aunt and uncle's house, meeting up with a couple of friends.

I hate to sound whiny, but isn't enough - enough?

It seems to me food was not always shoved in our faces like it is nowadays, or am I just being nostalgic? :p

I feel the same way. Since I started eating organic food, drinking green smoothies and eating practically a vegetarian diet, I don't crave those foods anymore. Everyone is bringing leftovers from Xmas parties to work and they aren't doing it for me like before. The only thing I can't turn down is a decadent chocolate cake.

There is a point where it becomes TOO MUCH already-ITA-but by the same token I do allow myself to indulge this time of year for sure because it's soooooo freakin' YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!:D

We had a holiday party at work and it seemed the only permitted ingredients were fat and cheese and high-carbs. It was all really rather gross. I ate as little as I could and still ended up feeling totally sick afterward. Luckily, that was the last event, so I'm good from here on out.

I feel the same way! Plus, it was my birthday this week, thank you, DH for buying the smallest, low sugar cheese cake he could find :)
But yes "forbidden food" (pun intended) is everywhere.
Stray strong :)

I have the same problem, but at least at home I'm lucky, my Mom is very supportive. I do have a sweet tooth, so I have to make a conscious decision not to indulge randomly for no reason. I don't know what to tell people. Obviously, 'No thank you' is ok, but what can a person say to get people to just lay off without being a b-tch?

I always take a gymnema sylvestre to help with the damage (it absorbs sugars in the gut and prevents them from being absorbed. its also great for a yeast infection.) I try to make something that I can bring and share but that doesn't always work.

Yeah, 'tis the season for junk food...but I guess I feel like it's that way all the time. There is always junk food at my office, which some would think was great. I just bring my own lunch or request something healthy for gatherings and luckily the admin team here is accommodating. If you're not as lucky, you can just eat as well as you can, or eat before you attend the events and that will hopefully keep you satiated. It is hard when others don't understand that you're trying to eat healthily...but I try to go with the flow.

Awesome info!

My biggest downfall...sugar!

I looked this up on the internet. Does this supplement really work? It sounds almost too good to be true!

Much of the traditional holiday food doesn't appeal to me either, especially if I know how much grease or butter is in it. My was always the yams, now I just want a fat-free version.

Then there's my mil's gumbo, there is no resisting lol. At best, maybe I'll get a w/o in before we go, and avoid eating the sausage and rice. At least the crab legs are low carb and low fat :)

I wish I knew what you could say to people to get them to lay off. Depending on where you are, and the situation, you could help with the clean up. They won't expect you to eat while your are cleaning up the paper plates or doing dishes. I always help serve the kids, that keeps me busy for awhile.

For us Italians, the holidays are all about copious amounts of decadent food and spending time around the dinner table with loved ones, enjoying that food. This tradition is just second nature to me, and I have come to appreciate and expect it during all holiday's (Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve, New Years Day, oh you get my drift ). I allow myself to indulge in moderation (guilt-free!), because frankly, who am I to break tradition? ;). Also, if it's a relatively warm day outside, I will take a nice walk around the neighborhood to burn off some of the cals while enjoying the festive holiday decor. In addition, I try my hardest to stay consistent with my exercise regime, not only to keep lbs at bay, but I find it reduces my stress levels and keeps me calm and patient during the holiday chaos.

All the best & take care :)

I'm not Italian, but I grew up in a neighborhood founded by Italian immigrants(three quarters of the residents are Italian-Americans). I have first hand knowledge of the food! The neighborhood is known for authentic Italian food.
I was just talking to DH about making a trip back to the old neighborhood bakery for some Christmas cannoli's  This little bakery has a line wrapped around the building during the holiday season.
