Fluidity Update

RE: Another Plus

Okay guys,

I ordered my Fluidity bar package only three days ago and got it yesterday!
Even though I did B&G yesterday AM, I just had to give the bar a try. I did the beginner workout so I could make sure I understood how to perform the moves correctly, and wow! Even that tape was challenging in a different way, it actually reminded me of the Barre Method and remember those old workouts called "Calithentics", quite sure I spelled that very wrong..but this workout felt like a combination of those two workouts.

I love the way you stretch your muscles between "sets" and finished the workout feeling longer, stretched and calm-not totally exhausted.Plus I have a bum hip, and these exercises really stretch those hip muscles out.

I am going to add it onto my Cathe and p90X workouts-I have been concentrating on Cathe lately...I am thinking 3-4 times a week. I like that is is so different than the other workouts I am doing, which is good to "shake the ole' body up" a little!
It folds up and takes up very little space, I just cannot wait for my hubby to see it,he thinks I am a nuthead with all my workout "gadgets!"

Oh, and my booty hurts, and my oblique area this AM!

RE: Another Plus

tneah,

I ordered mine on Monday. I got an e-mail that they sent it out UPS on Wed., I hope I get mine within a week. I can hardly wait to try it. I think this will be a great thing to do on days I really need a good stretch, but using the bar will make it much better.

I have a bad left hip, also. I have advanced arthritis in it, so I am somewhat limited with my movement. I can do step and plyometrics and I do karate with no pain, but I do not have the in and out movement with that hip. I will need a hip replacement as soon as the doctor sees that my hip socket is thinning.

Have fun with your new bar. I will let you know when I get mine and how much I love it too.

RE: Another Plus

See Tneah - isn't it fun? SOOOOO completely different from anything I've ever done. I love it. And the cool thing is that even though those DVDs do get longer as you go from beg to interm to adv, they still have many different moves! Glad you are liking it.

Lorrie -
Dang it, I'm going to order it too! Michelle Austin should pay you a commission or something! ;)

RE: Another Plus

Hey everyone!

I skipped the intermediate workout and did the advanced last night! Wow, I love the exercises where your body is up against the back of the bar, it doesn't seem like you will be able to raise your legs, but then you can!! I am looking forward to the results, and want to order more of the workouts on DVD! Thank you so much for talking about this workout!

Cheryl,

WOW, you have the exact same problem as me! They want to replace my right hip, its pretty much toast I guess. But what is strange, I can do the plyo workouts with no problem, which seems strange to me! I can also do the spin bike with no problem. However, all the kickbox I have to modify and the step workouts too. And when I work legss, the walking lunges kill me but I do them because my right butt cheek has grown softer and flabbier due to not using certain muscles because of the hip.
During Cardio Fusion, I hop on my bike during the Body Max section of the workout. Also, during the pretzel movement of the Fluidity series?
I found I literally could not raise the leg (the one on my good hip side) at all! I had to shift my body around so I could do it. It is because of the inbalances I have.
Sorry, this is so long, but I had to tell you too, I have bought a heel lift to put in my shoe on my bad hip side, and bingo! My limp has improved so much, and the pain you get from just walking around is decreased!:D
It is only about 1/8 of an inch high, but the difference is amazing. My leg seemed shorter on my bad hip side, and this seems to be working--fingers crossed as I sit here icing my hip!:) If a doctor measured your leg length you could get the exact heel height-which would be even better!!

RE: Another Plus

OK, I kept clicking on this thread and it broke me down. Since I received my income tax return today, I decided not to wait and ordered it!!! So much for willpower. :p

RE: Another Plus

tneah,

I do not have a limp from my hip at all - it is really strange - the only pain I do have is once in a while I will feel a twinge - I have never had to take anything for pain. I can do step for 90 minutes at a clip with two risers no problem either. I am a black belt in karate - the doctor told me that I shouldn't do side kicks toward a pad or person - that is the onlymodifications that I do have.

The thing is when I do some of Cathe's abs when she hasher legs in a butterfly position while on the back my right leg can go all the way down, but my left leg can barely go down. I look totally lopsided. That is when I discovered something wasn't right with my hip. I realized it with the Intensity Series.

I am glad the fluidity felt good for you and your hip, that is what I am hoping for - I kind of thought it might be a little harder to do it because of it.

Maybe I will PM you soon.

Cheryl

RE: Another Plus

Is it possible to just buy the DVD's without the bar? I think it would be great if you could preview before investing so much money.

RE: Another Plus

I just went to the site to check and see if they sell them by themselves? Nope. You have to buy the whole thing. I was looking to purchase the Seat and Thigh workout, and it would not let me purchase it seperate.
I am going to call the phone number and see if you can though.
Why don't you check out the videos they have on the site that demonstrates the workouts?

RE: Another Plus

Oh, I'm so tempted!! I have a question for those who have Fluidity. I have plantar fasciitis and have to avoid squats, lunges, step...Oh the list goes on unfortunately for a while. I am so worried about losing muscle and tone in my legs. Would you say a majority of the exercises are done with one foot on the floor supporting all your weight? If that's the case I probably can't do it now. Please tell me it's not all that. I want this so badly. Thanks in advance!

This sounds like I would get a lot of that. Thanks in advance!

RE: Another Plus

Actually, yes, the exercises involve standing on one leg, although there are alot of others that involve sitting on the floor with your back up against the back of the bar. Go to the web site and watch the video demonstrations to see if this is something you should be doing while you heal! :)

Hi all,

Of course, I just saw the infomercial yesterday and I'm about to breakdown and get it. I've compared it to Cardio Barre and it looks like Cardio Barre is not as sturdy and may cause some injury. I'm not sure if I have room for it though. I was just wondering to all of you who ordered this workout about a month ago, are you still using it? are you still as enthusiastic about it?

TIA for all of your input:)

I've had my Fluidity Bar for about 3 weeks. I did consider getting the Cardio Barre. However, I'm glad that I have the Fluidity Bar. It folds up nicely and I store it upright instead of under a bed or couch. Some of the Fluidity workouts can't be done with something like the Cardio Barre like pull ups. There are a few exercises done with your back up against the back mat and to maintain your form, your hands are either pushing against the bar or under the bar. Some of the stretches are done by placing your foot against the bar and pushing your heel under. I'm sure you could replicate the muscles being stretched on the floor instead of using the bar in these cases.

I'm still enthusiatically using my Fluidity Bar. I use the bar about 5 days a week rotating it with the Bar Method dvds. I was out of town over the weekend and used a chair for one of the Bar Method dvds. I really missed using my bar at home. I plan on getting the Lotte Berk dvds and some iBallet downloads in the future. From my understanding, you can use the cardio barre for all those dvds.

I finally dropped a quarter of an inch on my thighs from adding Bar type workouts and intervals on the treadmill. I find that I can actually do lunges and squats while keeping my form. Before starting bar workouts, I could never get the hamstrings and glutes engaged even while concentrating on placing my weight on my heels. As far as abs, core and upper arm work, Cathe still works me harder in these areas. Although, the pretzel exercise works my back along the sides better than anything else I've done. However, the pretzel isn't a barre exercise, it's floorwork. Also, I've noticed that the better my form gets, the harder the exercises get.

Thanks so much 6Swans4me, your input was very, very helpful. Would you believe I had the Bar Method workouts and sold them? Ugh, I'm kicking myself! I do Cathe for the majority of my workouts, pilates and I run. I find it very encouraging that you lost some inches on your thighs. That's my problem area as well, I'm pear shaped and my thighs get so muscular, the running helps but I need something to elongate them and make them more flexible. My goodness, I own so much equipment. I've spent more money coming to this forum:)...there's just so much out there to choose from.

I read this thread a while back and I really wanted the system cuz I just finished up a weighted leg rotation (for about 2 months - working legs 3 times a week) and now I weigh the same, but my jeans are all too tight. I decided to buy the DVDs off of Ebay. You can bid on them there!

To LORRIE - the poster - you say you do these as add ons.....and that's what I started to do...........so I just want to make sure that you're still working your legs with weights too? and you just add these on? I wasn't sure if I should omit weight work or just add these.

Just read this entire thread and I wanted to add that I have done the Intermediate DVD and Seat & Thigh and the backs of my legs/glutes were extremely sore....but they get like that from interval runs on the treadmill too since I'm new to running........so I thought it was from that, but I ran on Thursday and did Fluidity on Friday, no wonder I could hardly walk over the weekend!!!

Also, I don't have the money to buy the bar right now (thus the reason I purchased on ebay - cuz I'm not working), but I figured out an alernative way to do some of the moves for those of you that don't mind fiddling around a bit.

For the pullups, you can either do them like Amy Bento does in All Pump Extreme or the way they do them on the Treadmill in Barry's Bootcamp.

For Amy's way - drape a body bar over 2 chairs spaced apart and either lie under the bar and pullup for the most beginner way or you can sit and pullup, pulling your butt off the floor like Amy does in All Pump which harder.

For the Treadmill way. You lie on the TM with your head at the front of it and look up at the rails. You grab the rails on the side and do pullups. You can make it harder or easier depending on where you place your feet. You might have to play around with both of these methods until you find the right amount of pull for yourself.

For the move in Fluidity where they sit down with their back to the fluidity bar, sit with your back against a wall and place the barbell/body bar and chairs in front of you so you can reach under the bar and pull on it to use it for leverage to get your legs off the floor. You may not understand this now......but after you see the moves I'm talking about, it will come to you!

Just thought I'd throw that in. I actually just put an Advanced DVD on Ebay cuz I accidentally ended up with 2 copies..........was on a bidding spree!! LOL

Yep - I use them as add-ons while still using my weights for my legs - but I balance them more now that I'm more familiar with all of them. For example on a leg weight day I wouldn't use the S&T or the Adv Fluidity because there is so much more intense leg work in those. Today I did GS Legs and the beginner Fluidity. When I haven't done leg work for a few days I'll do the adv DVD while wearing 2.5 pound ankle weights. Hope that helps.

Lorrie

I NEED a Cathe Roadtrip - BAD!!!!

Lorrie - are you the person above that stated you lost inches from your thighs doing these? I can't remember.. that's what I need to do!!
