I thought I had made it abundantly clear that I don't have any problem stating my opinion, under my own name. That other post was not me.

You can write to the moderator and ask them, they can check IP addresses or whatever else it is they do to check for that stuff. But I have never hidden my opinion under a false ID, period.

I'm sorry for jumping on the bandwagon Govtgirl. I believe you and didn't think, or say, that I thought it was you. I do suspect that it isn't really a newbie. It seems like "new" people often show up in heated threads, with a post aimed at a particular person and that always strikes me, and others, as odd behavior for a real newbie.

And no matter what, I wish you nothing but the best and know that we may not agree but that doesn't mean you aren't the greatest person. I wouldn't want to see you get capital punishment if you ever committed a homicide. I wouldn't even want to see you have a bad day. And I don't want you to waste a single minute feeling lousy about something I said. And I hope you can come to feel the same way about moi.

i didn't think it was you either Govtgirl, I don't know who it is. I was just agreeing that alot of "new" people show up in heated debates. People have very valid opinions on both sides and it's unfortunate that these threads always seem to turn very ugly.
 
Wow. You ladies are something else. My cousin told me about this site, I just bought my first Cathe DVD, and the subject line interested me. That is why I posted anything at all. From now on I'll stay out of these posts and just do my workouts. If I understand the general vibe here, which I think I do, I realize now that I didn't know the Cathe culture at all. I thought it was supportive, uplifting even. But, it looks like you need some pretty sharp claws to post here.......

I enjoy reading threads like this, I just sit back and watch the debate unfold (seriously though, I only read to page 6). My boss and I were just talking about this subject last week. It's ironic because even after that discussion last week and after reading some of this thread, I'm still undecided (as with most things, I am very indecisive).

I can say, however, it was the title of this thread that got me to read it. If it had just said "They Executed the DC Sniper" with no apparent opinion included, I wouldn't have been as inclined to read it. Proclaiming an opinion about a current event (the execution of the DC sniper), even if it's considered harsh to some, is what gets people's attention. It sure got mine. And if the title had it been on the other side of the fence, the same result would ensue. I can just see it now: "The DC Sniper deserves to live!" That would have gotten just as much as reaction!

So to all the drama queens and the outspoken in cyberspace, it's your intriguing opinions that keep this "Open Discussion" forum very interesting to me, and obviously, the title is what makes this thread very popular.

These forums are not a very nice place IMO, unless you are in the "in" crowd.

Please don't let it deter you from working out with Cathe - she's awesome.

What I find a shame is how many people probably get turned off due to these forums.

Binkies: not all threads are like this, so don't let this less-than-warm welcome chase you away. You just happened to chose to post for the first time in a very controversial topic (notice I haven't posted in this thread before now...though Lianne's ghost cat post almost prompted me to, as it sounds like a nice way of adopting more cats without the expense of more food/litter, etc., LOL!).

That, and the fact that in the past some people have posted under new identities--in both this forum and others--to support their own viewpoints, was behind the suspicions of some posters.

Please look around at other posts, and you'll see that the 'vibe' in this thread is not indicative of the site in general.

Binkies, if I got it wrong about you, I'm truly sorry. If you decide to continue posting here or on another forum, it's usually a good idea to start off with a new post saying hi and introducing yourself. Jumping in on a heated thread with personal judgments against others as your very first post looks suspicious and trollish. This is just basic "netiquette". Good luck to you.

Thanks for your warm welcome. I admit that maybe I should not have posted to such a viral topic, but I live in Baltimore and the whole sniper thing really hit home with me. In general, it's difficult for a person to voice an honest opinion without being challenged, and I know that. I didn't get to be the age I am by being completely naive! But I really did expect better of the women on this forum because my cousin spoke so highly of it. I guess I'm just a little disappointed, but I won't swear off Cathe because of the behavior of a few people.

That being said, I did my second Cathe workout this morning - wow! No wonder she is in such great shape. I have 50 lbs to lose, so it's not easy for me with the knees, etc., but I will keep at it. Thanks for your encouragement. :)

Binkies, welcome to the forums! I promise you that there are many more wonderful people here than this thread would lead you to believe, and I'm sorry that your first impression was such a bad one. Best wishes with your fitness goals! Cathe's workouts are a definite step in the right direction.

Maybe it's just me, but when I read the title of this thread I saw a statement that a killer would soon be put to death and to me the "Good" was like a sigh of relief, not a 'hey let's pop that bottle of champagne open and party because someone is going to die!'

Well, if God is judge and jury here on earth...let's get rid of our justice system. No need for judge,juries, lawyers, etc. We are judge and jury on this earth. That's the way it is. It is why we have a legal system. And it's pretty fair by far. I'd rather live under this system, then say some place like Middle East, where there system is driven by religion.

This is what I thought too. During that time my DH had to travel from our west coast home to DC for business. I was worried sick the entire time he was there. I just cannot imagine how it must have been for those who lived in that area and had to go on with their daily lives despite the fear that Govtgirl mentioned.

I'm not really new to Cathe's forums as I read them almost daily. I don't post very often. I must say that even though this is a very controversial topic, it has been very interesting and enlightening to read everyone opinions. If I may, please allow me to share mine.

I am a person that suffered severe abuse as a child (for many years) at the hands of a pedophile. When I was sixteen, my mother was murdered by her live-in boyfriend right in front of me. He then turned the gun on himself and took his life. I can't say that I know how I would have felt if he had only killed my mother. I do know that I have no hatred for that man. I did for the man that molested me, as he was still alive. I just seems pointless to hate someone that's not even here to reap the benefit of that feeling -if that makes sense. It's a closed case now. For years, I hated the man that molested me. I should have because he forever changed my life. He stole so much from me as a human being. It wasn't until I realized that by hating him, I was only allowing him to control my life now, just as he did when I was a child. I would always be his victim if I didn't do something to change how I felt. So I forgave him. Now granted, I don't see him - haven't in years (he may be dead for all I know) but it wasn't something I had to let him know I did anyway because he could've cared less. But it saved me. So maybe the death of the guilty does allow the victims to move on with their lives in a way that only God knows.

Now I'm a Christian and I hate that someone posted earlier that we are more judgemental and intolerant than anyone else. That is such a shame that we have come across to the world that way as I don't think that is what the Lord had in mind. But I would like to share where corporal punishment comes from. When Noah got off the ark, God told him "Surely for your lifeblood I will demand a reckoning, from the hand of every beast I will require it and from the hand of man. Whoever shed's man's blood, by man his blood shall be shed. For in the image of God he made man." Genesis 9:5-6
I was also said in the Law "Whoever kills a man shall be put to death." Lev 24:17
Jesus never in the New Testament did away with any of God laws, He just showed us that we can fulfill all of God's law if we love each other as we love our selves and do unto others as we would have them do unto us.
If you don't believe, that's OK but as for me, I'm inclined to believe that God had a good reason for requiring a life for a life. Probably to deter future murders and to provide peace for the innocent and the families effected.
