Bouncing babies and their mommas 3/28-4/3

Christine- I was thinking about trying peas next. I've seen Massage Envy around town. Just don't know when I'd find the time. I'd rather workout then get a massage. ;) Crazy fitness freak....

I feel better than I did this earlier this AM. I am actually getting a lot done at work and its keeping me busy. I'd go stir crazy if I stayed home another day and wasn't able to workout. I have contemplated calling in sick to work just to work out. Silly me...:p

Has anyone ever tried/heard of Bolthouse Farms juice products? They sell them at our grocery store in the juice section but it has the equivalent of 3 1/2 servings of fruits or veggies. They are yum! I've been drinking them since I've been sick and not wanting fruits/veggies much. It says there is nothing artificial in them.

I like lentils! I made the sausage soup with lentils that Allison posted and today was the first day I tried it! YUMMO! Also perfect for this sick gal! And it made tons so I froze it for later. Just wanted to share.... :D

Alright ladies, you converted me to lentils so can you help me with steel cut oats?? I made some in the crock pot this weekend and did not care for them. How can I doctor up what I have already made or cook them different so I will like them?

OMG -- Drew is driving me NUTS today. I'm ready to put him on the porch with a "FREE! Please take me!" sign.

Jen, glad you enjoyed the lentil soup! As for steel-cut oats, I'm with you -- I have a can, but no idea what to do with them. There was actually a thread on the Cathe forums (maybe in the recipe forum?) about steel-cut oats -- people talked about adding all kinds of stuff.

I meant to say thanks for the cute tee, Melanie. Red is my favorite color :)

All right, back to Mr. Whiney Pants Needs a Nap But Doesn't Want to Take One. (I already called DH to tell him I'm going out tonight by myself to finish Easter shopping and get stuff to make Ella's Tinkerbelle birthday cake. Can't wait to escape!!!!)

Christine-how was your run? Running in the rain is dedication! Hope the cover kept his sound in. I remember all too many walks when Caden was a baby when he would just scream.

Jen-a fitness freak? Yes, but you're in good company! I know how hard it is to find time for things like massages when juggling so many things. I'll be right there with you next week. I try to do 'me things' when the in laws visit. That way DH has help with the kids, and I don't have to sit around and visit about nothing. Your post reminded me that I have a gift cert to massage envy to use sometime. I'm so happy you like lentils! I could eat the taco flavored lentils every day, and I really liked the sloppy joe ones, too. As for steel cut oats, did you cook them with enough liquid so that they weren't all sticky? I like to add apples, raisins (for Caden), and lots of cinnamon. Sometimes I'll mix in a little milk before eating. You can also add in milk while cooking. What about sprinkling in some stevia if you want something sweet?

Melanie-I still can't believe you pay so little for someone to clean! I'd be all over that in a heartbeat! I so want to hire someone to come in a couple times per month, but it's hard to justify the $150 to $200 when our day care expenses will soon be doubline. ugh.

4mi on the treadmill this morning. Food so far:
B-steel cut oats, nut mix (200)
L-romaine w lentils, chicken, and TVP, cheese (I know. odd combo), apple (450)

Allison! That was me yesterday. I actually called DH yesterday afternoon and told him to come hoem or I was going to recycle the kid. Today is better. What is it? Why do they do this? Just when I have a day where I pat myself on teh back and smile and think i am doing a great job, days lik eyesterday happen! Hope you get out of there soon!!!!
Lisa- GOt in 8.5 miles in teh rain. I love the rain cover, it keeps them totally warm and dry and i cannot hear them. Ahhhh. I think I ran well because I did not see any eyeballs or hear any "mommy, are we there yet?" I want to do insanity and abs later. I pulled a muscle in my forearm two days ago, so am laying off the weights this week. It was my fault. I tried doing 1 legged squats with 60 pound. I know, I know, stupid!
Jen- I am with you, a workout is better than anything in my book too!
I am not a fan of steel cut oats, cannot help you there! Glad the lentils are awesome. I am motivated to make some!

Lisa- Maybe that is what it was cause they were sticky...What are they supposed to be consistency-wise? My in laws will be over tomorrow night and I am hoping to feel better so I can workout. YAY!

Christine- I think our kids dont want us to get too cocky about our caretaking skills. 60 pound one legged squat??? I know we call you superwoman but you dont have to try and prove it.

Allison- I'm sorry Drew is driving you nuts. Benadryl works wonders.... ;) Just kidding!

Hi Ladies.

No workout for me today. I am recovering from a hard day yesterday.

Jen, I want to know about the steel cut oats myself. One o fthe girls here make it all the time but it doesn't look appealing to me. Besides, I can't stand oatmeal cooked with water only. I need milk

Allsion, I have felt that way sometimes, specially around 2am when I can't figure out what wrong with Daniel.

Christine, we have samples for Enfamil with Iron and Similac. The one he tried was enfamil, I remember the nurses at the hospital gave him some similac too. One of my coworkers suggested mixing formula with breastmilk. I want to try that in 2 months from now. I'll let you know about the formula he likes the best. Ah, I sent you a PM

Melanie, thanks for offering me the coupons. I have to figure out which formula he'd like better since I'm not supplementing yet.

HI Susan!!

Hmmm, my 22.5 lb one-legged deadlift pales in comparison to Christine's 60 pound 1 legged squat! LOL

So, Drew finally went to sleep for about 90 minutes. Yay! Ella went down at 3:15 and is still asleep at 5:18. I got in STS Disc 9 (legs), so now I can move forward with Week 4 for 2 weeks. I love the bonus blast on the leg DVDs!

I didn't want to workout. At all. I was dressed and ready to go, but wanted to sit on the couch and veg (because who knows how long babies will nap, right?). But then I caught a glimpse of my arm in the mirror. I was so excited -- my triceps are becoming noticeable!! Hello, Motivation! Thanks for seeking me out today :D

DH said he won't leave work before 6:30. Boo hiss. He has a big deadline next week, but wants to take Friday off so he's trying to get ahead.

Jen, we've joked about Benadryl many times. Now that he's teething, I do Tylenol as a last resort.

Christine, if my DH indulged himself in a really pricey toy, I'd be pretty P.O.'d. As for your DH, doesn't he know his cell phone tells the time? *wink* Glad you got some things for yourself...what's good for the gander is good for the goose in this case, right? Oh, and Drew is doing well in the crib :) Thanks for asking. He sleeps in it every night. Now that he's outgrown his infant carseat, his naps are more difficult. He falls asleep just as I get home, and somehow that 3-5 minute power nap is enough to sustain him for HOURS.

Priscilla, if you sign up on Enfamil's website, they will send you coupons too. They sent me 2 big cans of formula and for a while, $5 off coupons. I guess they stopped sending them because I wasn't using them. But if that's the way you go, it's worth it!

Susan, where are you today?!

Lisa, thanks for the pointers on steel-cut oats. I know I should love oatmeal (and I do, in cookies LOL), but I don't consistently like it. I have a pumpkin oatmeal recipe if anyone wants it; super easy and really tasty.

I just want to vent about something I saw on the news. I don't know what everyone here does for a living, if anyone is union or spouse of a union employee.

There is yet another strike starting tomorrow (nurses in one of our health systems). With the economy the way it is, I think unions have a lot of nerve striking. And seeking sympathy to boot! Really? With all the unemployed people, folks on paycuts (like my house), etc., I just have no sympathy or understanding for folks striking.

Okay, that was it. Thank you for permitting my tirade. And if anyone has a counterview, I would love to hear it, as I like to hear other viewpoints in order to be more informed. :)

Allison-so glad to hear that Motivation paid you a visit. Send her my way when you're done! I'm in HR so you won't get a union counter argument from me.

Jen-My crockpot cooks the heck out of my oatmeal, so I make sure I start them in the middle of the night (since I'm up anyway) rather than before bed. I cook them until just before claggy and sticky. The recipes I've seen call for 4c water to 1c oats, but I add 1/2 cup milk and a bit more water. You still may not like them. I ddn't for quite awhile.

I just made some mashed cauliflower for the first time, and I loved it!! Even Caden said 'mmm more'. Ya--Reese is finally pooping as she's on my lap right now. It's been a couple days.

S-almonds, air popped popcrn, 3 kisses (300)
D-mashed cauliflower, tex mex beef barley hotdish

Allison- My DH is in a union (police officer) and he is upset with the deals they are trying to strike for them. He isn't upset so much with the union as he is with their union rep who is a wuss and not standing up for them and what is right. That is my extent of involvement in a union. I don't think DH will be striking anytime soon. Don't you just love motivation? I was doing plank position on Sunday and DH commented on my arms. Then BAM! Sickness hit! I swear I will never get done with this third week of STS. Does it still work if you do the same disc 3 times???

Lisa- I think I will add more liquid next time. I cooked them during the day and actually turned it off before the recipe said but they were still sticky. Should I try stovetop? I have horrible luck with cooking brown rice on the stove top so I don't know if steel cut oats would be much better.

Oh and yes Allison, please post pumpkin oatmeal. :D

You'd think I was pregnant again the way I am crying at Dancing With The Stars.... AF should be here soon. Gotta go see who is going home!

I don't like steel cut oats in crockpot...they are too mushy. Instead I simmer 1 cup of steel oats in 6 cups of water for 45 minutes. That is enough for the entire week. Then I take out 1/2 cup portions, nuke, add walnuts and 1/2 sliced banana (sometimes butter) and begin my day.

I snuck in pured sweet potatoes in tonight's french toast. Thanks Christine. :D It worked well.

Today's run was a success. I only burned 617 calories for an almost 7 mile run. Feel a bit cheated....but am over 3000 calories & 25000 steps for the day, so feel successful enough. Took many walks to visit people....including the pharmacy in town where I sometimes work & my neighbor down the road. It never ceases to amaze me how "too busy" people are to visit, yet I make time to visit other people (even with 5 kids & working full time). *sigh* people are so Unrelational....except ya'll. :p

I was going to try some abs, but maybe tomorrow. I'm burned out...the kids have done a fair share of screaming today.

i moved the port-a-crib back into our bedroom. I'm preparing for my return to the bedroom with DH. This is one step closer to our "big event". LOL I think I'll sleep on couch on more night though, I gotta work tomorrow and need a good night sleep. LOL

DH has found open water on the Rainy River, so he's AWOL again. Urgh. I put my foot down b/c my running friend inviting me to run with her on Thursday (right in middle of DH's fishing time). I told him I was going and he'd have to compromise and fish earlier or something. :p I'm so proud of myself. ;)

I work tomorrow, so I'll see you gals on Thursday. Susan, I hope you get your package. Christine, yours went out today via Priority Mail. :D I have a suprise in there for you and Jimmy. :)

Susan, didn't u just get a new computer? Grrrrrrrr. We're going to miss you, girlie. Sending healthy vibes to you and all our internet buddies!

Nighty Night! I'm beat!

Susan, hope you're internet is up and running soon! Miss you!

Melanie, I didn't realize you've been sleeping on the couch all these months!! You poor thing -- you must be longing for the comfort of your bed. Do both girls fit in the portacrib, or do you have 2 of them in your room? Do I understand you correctly -- you and DH haven't *ahem* yet? Dang, girl! DH will be so impressed by your kegaling!!

My DH didn't get home tonight until 7:30. I got out of here to run errands at 7:45, home at 10:45. Poor baby -- he was so annoyed with me, as the kids didn't cooperate with him with bed. "Where are you shopping at 10:30 at night?" Um, Target. Get over it.

I treated myself to a new pair of sneaks at DSW. I had $20 off any purchase more than $50 coupon, so I got a comfy pair of Saucony's for $39. Woo hoo! I know they are running sneakers but they were more comfortable than the limited selection of crosstrainers.

I am a novice cake decorator who aspires to be better. Any ideas on what to do for a Tinker Bell cake? I don't want to buy the Wilton Tink head cake. I feel nervous already, and I haven't even started yet!! Wendy's round music box is featured in the Tink movie. Target sells the music box (so I got it for Ella as a b'day present), with a removable Tink figure on top. I thought about doing a round layer cake as the music box, decorating it in greens with vines and flowers. I would have some beads sticking out to show it's a jewelry box and also make the keyhole, and I would put the Tink figurine on top. I have a gum paste flower kit I've never used, but I think I could do them. They can be made way ahead, so I could start trying tomorrow. LOL

Also considering a sheet cake, icing it to look like water. Adding two round layers, cut to resemble an island shape -- icing this part green. I found (but didn't buy) a 5 pack of 2 or 3 inch high fairies at Target; they could be plopped on the island. Use graham cracker crumbs or brown sugar for the sand, and use gum paste flowers to accent.

Any experts on here?!?!

PUMPKIN OATMEAL
from Health magazine (many years ago!)

Serves 2 (so says the recipe -- I get 4 breakfasts from this)

2 cups cooked oatmeal
1 cup canned pumpkin
2 TBSP brown sugar
1/2 cup fat free milk

In a saucepan, heat all over medium heat for 5 minutes.

Per serving: 263 cals, 3.5 g fat, 7 g fiber

**I make the oatmeal and then add the rest of the stuff. I love cinnamon, so I always add cinnamon too. Sometimes I add apple pie or pumpkin pie spice too. When I reheat, I add more milk. Also good with walnuts on top :)

Call me crazy, but DH should be on the couch, not you! Your back must be killing you! I am glad that you will be back in a bed soon, you will get such better sleep. So, when are you plannign the big "event"? I figure with five kids, you have to plan it!
Allison- Awesome that you got so motivated. I love that feeling. Yay!
BBL for more personals, I need to re-read all that I missed.
So tired, John was up at 12, 3, and then got up for the day at 5. Boo. And DH had his alarm on loud so whe that wen off at 4, I heard that too. I think i might take it easy today and take a nap later.
Waves and BBS!

Morning ladies! Feeling much better. Think I might try a workout tonight while in laws are at the house. Prob just move on to Disc8 upper body and see how I do. I am DYING to try Insanity but that won't be til next week when I can breathe.

Dude I swear we have the worst luck! Sitter called and now the two oldest have the pukes! I swear if my kid does not get any of this crap going around he has a super immune system. I would much rather him get my cold than the pukes! So DH isn't getting any sleep today cause he worked til 6a. Told him to take a nap when MIL gets there but he probably wont.

Melanie- I didn't know you were sleeping on the couch either. WTH is that about???? Thanks for the tip on the oats, I will try tonight or tomorrow your way.
Christine- Sorry about the lack of sleep. Listen to your body, if it says rest, then rest. No 60 lb one legged squats today missy!
Allison- Glad you got your time at Target. Walmart is open 24 hours...you have one of those near you??? :p I think the first cake idea (music box)sounds great but much more than I could handle. I am no expert by any means but I will cheer you on! ;) Tks for the pumpkin recipe too!

Ok back to work now.... Hi Susan!
