Better gas up........

I decided to gas up even though I still had 3/4 of a tank. This morning it was $2.57 and I paid $2.99 this afternoon. I think we'll be doing a whole lotta nothing for Labor Day weekend!

Yes, my truck uses it but I've only found it one place while I was on a trip. I thought I was doing well because the price was so much lower BUT it burns faster than regular gas. Read your manual. At this point though, I'll take it!

Yesterday it was $2.69 in S. GA. Today $3.09. I live in a rural area and drive 40 mi round trip Tue - Fri to pick up the kids from band practice :-( Marnie

I just filled up my little suv (ISUZU RODEO) for $40!!! That really hurt! I remember the days when I first bought it (about 6 years ago) and could fill it up for $15!!! If it wasn't already paid off, I'd trade in for a teeny tiny car!

Some of what is happenning is greed plain and simple.

When a gas dealer sees a summer long weekend coming the price will go up. Add a gulf cost disaster and a war in Iraq, we can really speculate and drive it up.

Don't get me wrong oil prices are up as we are competing with industrialized China for every drop of oil. But I've noticed that when the price is going up the gas dealer tells you that he has to raise the price for fuel he's already paid for because the replacement fuel will cost more. When the price lowers he'll hold it up telling you that he has to sell the fuel at the price he paid for it.

We have to make cuts in our petroleum consumption, the price will force us to. Cutting back on driving is an option but how do you heat your house? I live in the northeast US (Vermont), I locked my home heating oil in at $2.14 gallon, I use about 1100 gallons per year. I am not without sympathy for flood, hurricane, earthquake and other disaster victims but who's going to collect $$ and bail me and my neighbors out if we get a "mother of all winters"? No one ever has and no one ever probably will.

I know that there is a shortage but I also feel that there is some gouging going on too. The bottleneck right now is in refined gas not oil supply and so release of the National oil reserves is not going to help us now. I understand why the price of gasoline is going up, but you can bet your booty that oil and natural gas prices will also go up even though they shouldn't be going up significantly.
I was at the gas station the other day and as I filled up the gas station attendant told me I was lucky to be filling up that day as their supplier ordered them to raise it to a certain amount by the next day or they would be cut off and out of buisness. I mentioned this at work in front of two lawyers that work for us and they both said something about this being an anti-trust violation. Can anyone shed any light on this.
I also agree that it is about time we as a nation work on alternative energy supplies and that consumers do what they can do...cut back where they can and switch to hybrid vehicles if possible.

The Park District here is starting construction next week causing our only road into town to be closed and now we'll have a MAJOR detour - probably an extra gallon of gas each time we go into town.

Of course, they had to wait for school to start to do this - meaning everyone in this area has to make several trips into town a day for our kids. Plus, we have many teachers in this area who will be affected by this and wouldn't have been if they had just closed the road in the summer instead.

It makes me so mad!x(

Trevor, if you don't like this site, and apparently are not a Cathe fan, why do you keep coming back? Have you ever even DONE a Cathe workout? If so, what is your favorite Cathe workout? This forum is for Cathe fans--you are obviously not one.

I've gone back through your posts & don't see a single reference to Cathe, other than some criticism of one of her rotations. I wonder if you've ever even seen one of her workouts, much less done one.

Don't try to tell us you're a woman named Rebecca, we all know without a doubt who you are. And I don't know how you can even accuse me of making a personal attack. I simply responded to your post with my own opinion. Once again, you have shown your true colors by insulting someone who merely disagrees with you.

So go back to VF. I'm sure they'd welcome you with open arms. :7

I am just sick over this whole thing! We are SUPPOSED to be leaving on vacation tomorrow...our first one in a long time together. We were headed down south stopping in a couple different states and finally ending up in Florida to see my sisters. Now, we are hearing they are closing gas staions down, not to mention the price if they are open. Waaaah! I don't know whether to keep packing.

We need to start a fund for Dani's pig! I went to Costco yesterday and paid $2.55. I passed a Conoco on the way. It was at $2.61 then and $2.67 on my way home. This is the sad part of sharing my car with my newly licensed 16 year old. I may have to sell a kidney to keep us on the roads.

I know what you mean Debbie, my DH and I just cancelled out trip up north for a wedding. We just cannot afford it this month! I guess I should feel grateful that we don't live in New Orleans though. I just cannot believe the utter devastation there!!
Anyway, maybe this will force the public to make better choices about fuel (or better yet, force the market to give us more choices). As things stand now, I'm pretty sure our next car will be a hybrid.
There just doesn't seem to be an end to this insanity.

watcihng the news most of the day and its going to get worse before it will get better. the main thing now is ppl are in a frenzy b/c they are certain of a gas shortage that stations are actually running out of gas. i understand but like i said before they are opening up reservse until some of pipelines and refinries can open back up. a couple will not be open for months but they are certain most of them will be back and running within a few weeks. this really sucks b/c there is not much we can do and ppl in a frezy are just created more of an issue with shortages.

hopefully it will all go smoothly b/c we are not making any extra money here ourselves unless SSI decides to raise the amount of the check i get every month b/c this could affect my heating bill. since i live in an apartment i do not get to choose my method of heat and we have gas. get woodstoves if you can lucky ppl. they are great and work well and save a ton on the heating bill.

Carolyn!

I am sorry you had to cancel. How sad. I agree though...we need to count our blessings for what we do have. My heart just aches for those down south that are hurting so bad. I hope you get to go visit your friends after this all calms down.

I was in wal-mart this morning buying a huge jar of jalapenos because I ran out. Very rarely do I let this happen.:) Anyways, they had these flat screen tv's suspended at the end of grocery aisles (yes,at wal-mart), and they had on the news. They said the gas in Atlanta Georgia was 6 bucks a gallon.

These prices are nothing

I just returned from a two week business trip in Sardinia (Italian Island 100 miles west of Rome) where the prices were over $4.50 a gallon for the cheap stuff (Diesel) and close to $5 a gallon for Regular. I wouldn't complain about $3.50... Of course, it is a shock to the wallets when the prices rise so quickly.

RE: These prices are nothing

Hi Lorrayne,
I was in Sardegna for a meeting last September. I was in Alegero primarily. I loved it. How did you like it? What part(s) of the island
did you visit. I loved the little streets and the rocky coast.
