Anyone else feels satiated with workout videos?

Vee

Cathlete
I used to enjoy buying workout videos. I would feel heady excitement when a new video on its way to me.

Now, I feel I have enough videos.

I still order the occasional new workout video, but I no longer scan to see what upcoming videos are being released, nor do I feel a sense of intense wanting when I watch a clip of a new workout. If I order a workout I feel mildly pleased when it gets to me. My Kelly pre-order was delievered to a wrong address and it took over two weeks to arrange to get them. That would have been a huge disappointment earlier. I just did my other workouts while I waited.

My most favorite way of working out now is yoga and I wonder if that has anything to do with it. The philosophy behind yoga is one of being balanced. How many workouts does a person really need? How many can a person do justice to?

Anyone else buying a lot less?

Vee - I definitely have more workout videos than I could ever need or use. This latest pre-order will probably be my last for a while. The only DVD I'm considering still adding is Tracey's yoga DVD. I think she shows pregnancy modifications right? Do you have that one?

Liann, My yoga teacher in India helped Tracey choreograph Yoga Solutions and yes, I do have it. Tracey was in the earlier stages of pregnancy during the video. There isnt a lot of modifying, but the poses are mostly achievable in pregnancy.

I really don't have a ton of DVDs, and never have. I'll buy something new every now and then but will also sell what I'm not using regularly.

I did buy a Kelly Coffey Meyer recently but I can't say anything else fires me up. I was tempted by the new Tracey Long vids but I have her previous series, sitting in the box untouched. I'm more interested in buying clothes, shoes, purses on the cheap from 6pm.com.

As it stands now -- it takes me a year to rotate through all of my DVD's -- I pre-ordered shock cardio and Insanity and PX90 really intrigue me, but I haven't ordered yet. I'm doing a lot of running now for cardio -- after my marathon in November I will look ahead to what I want to achieve in 2010 and maybe a purchase will happen then. But most of the threads about new releases, preorders, etc I just have to ignore!

Cathe's a weak spot for me. I can carefully evaluate any other instructor's product, but the minute Cathe comes up with something, I'm on board. :D

(runs over to 6pm.com)

I know what you mean about too many workouts. Now I am very, very picky about any workouts that I buy. I have to truly believe that they will have a very long shelf life before I buy. I have the TLT DVds and rarely do them. I am glad that I got them in an exchange. I did pre-order Tracie's Longevity series. The bonus workouts sold me on them. I think that the bonus workouts will be very versatile, but we will see!

By a very long shot, Insanity was my best workout purchase of 2009!

Nice to read responses of those who are buying less.

I am buying less and not because I am trying to control my indulgence. I just dont feel the need anymore to my surprise. I dont regret my past workout shopping spree indulgences. I think buying workout videos to keep the motivation high, even if I wasnt doing justice to all I owned, was OK. It kept me healthy and fit.

Another thing that has happened with me is that I have lost interest in very advanced workouts - especially impact. I prefer moderate intensity now.

I used to love buying gadgets and that has waned too.

Everything seems to be about moderation for me now.

Perhaps it has to do with aging. I am 42 now.

I feel the same way,Vee.

Shock Cardio will be my last preorder for a very long time. For crying out lout, I can’t even finish STS once (it’s collecting dust), tried twice this year. I can’t lift anything heavier than 15 pounds.
I don’t think I will do Cathe’s Shock Cardio for awhile, since it high impact.
I can’t do any high impact due to my back problems. I am seeing a PT twice a week now; he is showing me how to modify without putting to much stress on my back. I wished Cathe would show modification in her DVD’s, IMO! For me it’s not so much that I lost interest in very advanced workouts, I just can’t do them anymore. I guess you can call it aging, lol! I am getting to old for high impact stuff..The only cardio I can do right now is the elliptical or the TreadClimber, which I love. The TreadClimber is very low impact; I burn more cal. on the TC than I do with any other high impact Cathe DVD or cardio machine. I still use my CC's on the TC:p

BTW, I never got those DVD's! Not sure what happend to them:confused: Thanks for all your help:D

Take care,
Belinda

Uh-oh Belinda! :( I posted them months ago. I am so sorry they did not reach you. I am not yet all set (I moved to Malaysia) with media and copying software but just as soon as I get organized I will send them out again to you. I was wondering why you hadnt said anything about receiving them. LOL! You probably were wondering if I had posted at all.

I hope you have made a full recovery on the sinus. I hope your back heals soon too. Yoga (apart from PT) can really help with back pain and with strengthening / aligning the back.

Good morning Vee,

I am sorry, you probably thought I was rude.LOL!
I haven’t said anything, I thought you to busy with work and your move and forgot about it. I do forget a lot too, lol. I am very busy with doctor’s appointment for my back and sinus (I have another sinus infection. I also had to fly with DH to Texas a few weeks ago, lightning hit our house. We had a lot of damage to the roof and carpets. We had to rip out all the carpets, replaced them with tiles. I can not even tell you what mess that was. We had to completely empty the house; I left most of my stuff in the states. We had to pack everything in boxes (everything still is in boxes:p), that was a lot of work. You don’t know how much stuff you have until you pack everything up, lol! We also had to move all our furniture from one bedroom to the other. We have 4 bedrooms, lots of moving stuff around. Our roof was completely damaged; we had rain coming in the house everywhere. DH and I had to fly back to Germany when the roofers still worked on the roof , lol! I hope we have a new roof! Due to all the lightning/hail damage in El Paso the insurance company couldn’t keep up, we had to wait a week for the workers to come out. I was stressing big times. We only could stay 2 weeks.
I still don’t know how DH and I got everything done in only a week? We worked our butts off to get things done, didn’t helped my back.
I hope you like your new place. Moving is sucks, lots of stress. I appreciate your help; you are truly a good friend. Thanks!
Take care,
Belinda

I am sorry to hear of the damage to the home, the new sinus infection and the back :(

We decided on a more simplified home / lifestyle here so the move wasnt stressful. Life if anything is easier and more peaceful here.

Sending good health vibes your way Belinda.

Vee, I'm so glad you posted about this. I always felt like I was missing something when people would post about new workouts coming out and how excited everyone would get. I would try my share of new workouts and some I'd like and most would sit on the shelf but I "had" to look into what the new ones would be like because they might be offering something that my current collection of several hundred might not have. Recently, I don't even look at anything new since I haven't been able to work out due to muscular limitations. I certainly have plenty to choose from when I am able to work out again. In fact, I am trying to thin out my collection. I have some dvd's I'm thinking of letting go of but it's mostly videos. I'm attempting to part with the latter and just have to decide if it's worth selling them (which I could use the money) or just donate them. I still like my videos but don't know how many people would actually buy them. I think I'll visit this thread often if I feel like I can't let them go. I've already re-read it several times! :D

Oh, I'm TRYING to be like you guys. I didn't know one could get satiated with workout DVD's...LOL! I'm on a barre/Classical Stretch/Essentrics kick right now. I've changed in that I don't order or preorder EVERYTHING I think I want: Resisted Insanity, STS, new Tracie Longs, new KCM's. Gave into Cardio Barre, P57's, Classical Stretch, Essentrics. Looking at Lalofit workouts and Jackie Warner's newest (NOT a fan of hers) but the workout looks great for busy, stressful, weeks or holiday times getting in a 15 min. intense strength workout and adding 15 to 30 min. of cardio to get it done in 30 to 45 min.

Angela, Barre and Classical Stretch sound like a real change of style from what I remember as your workout preferences! Are you fitting in traditional strength training too? If not, are you noticing any changes without weights?

I havent been strength training since I moved. Though I'd love to say "yoga is all you need", the truth is I think I look better when I train with weights.
