Anyone else feels satiated with workout videos?

Satiated? How about overwhelmed?
I've got so many workouts right now (including quite a few I haven't even used yet, including most of STS!---though I've preview all of the ones I haven't used).

I also haven't been using videos very much at all during the summer, when speed walking has been my cardio (and I've been rather lax in weight training:().

Still, when a very tempting workout comes up, I order it.

If my common sense would kick in, I'd for sure cancel all of STS cardio except the MMA strand. So why don't I? With the case of Cathe, I guess I feel some sort of need for being a completionist (I have, or have possessed at some point, all of her workouts since SNM 3 except for one of the series compilation workouts. Heck, I even bought the beginner/intermediate workouts when they came out, used them a bit, then sold them. What is wrong with me?)

I am trying to be more selective, and there are several instructors who I used to buy from that are now on my 'don't buy' list : Tracey Staehle, Amy Bento, for example).

I really need to take stock of what I really NEED and pare my collection down to that (hmm....collection...maybe that's it? My family seems to have a genetic propensity to collect stuff: for my father and uncle, it was clocks, for an aunt, it was dolls...maybe for me its workouts? I don't get into the tchatchkes (sp?) but I do have collections of DVDs and CDs).

.......

Watch out Kathryn! Overwhelmed is the first phase of satiated. I remember standing in front of my collection every day overwhelmed by the choice. I decided then to catalogue my collection to cycle through and being amazed at how long it took to just list it all. I gave up on the cycling after just a week to revert to standing and staring at workouts before each session.

I pruned my collection of DVDs. I feel much better now. I still have more than I can do, but my collection is just those I cant bear to part with.

I think of you Kathryn as a collector of cats and dvds. I imagine you sitting in a pretty armchair at home with a cat on your lap in front of a tv, cats all around, in a room that looks like the library in some classic large homes, except the shelves have workout DVDs.

I am sorry to hear of the damage to the home, the new sinus infection and the back :(

We decided on a more simplified home / lifestyle here so the move wasnt stressful. Life if anything is easier and more peaceful here.

Sending good health vibes your way Belinda.

Thanks Vee! My sinus infection is getting better, but my back is a different story:( I am glad you like your new place, sounds very nice.

Take care,
Belinda

Interesting discussion! I've never gone out and bought every DVD that comes out. I have a collection of about 30 now that have amassed over 4 years, and some of those I barely touch.

I've always been amazed by the people who buy DVDs and then say that, months later, they're still sitting on their shelves unwrapped! (This is NOT a dig, just a comment, in case anyone is offended). When I get a new DVD, I often do it straight away (and certainly within a week). Is it because when you buy a lot, you're not as excited? I buy about 6 DVDs a year so it's always a big deal when they arrive.

I know what you mean though, Vee. I'm not quite as excited about new DVDs as I used to be. I think it's because I've got to know what works for me and what doesn't and so I dismiss quite a lot straight away without investigating.

That's also the reason I don't come to these boards as much anymore. I pretty much know what I'm doing so don't feel like I need to look for advice as much.

I have noticed that I feel that I have 'enough' as well - not just for DVD's, but also for clothes. I love to shop, still do, but find I'm shopping for the house or my husband, not so much for me. I should have been a personal shopper instead of a geek. :D

Where can you sell DVDs (and gasp! FIRM original tapes) that you have had enough of? I've never done it, but I'm willing to try!

(Beavs, that 6PM site is awesome for patagonia :))

I can totally appreciate this thread!!!!! I used to be such a junkie....I had to have all the Firms and then moved on to other instructors and wound up with way over a hundred workouts. I think I became a "junkie" because I always had high hopes (so naive of me) that one would be the magic bullet that would truly transform my body.....that a "system" whether it was CLX or whatever would dramatically alter my body. After realizing FINALLY that my body is what it is........a "nice" strong overall lean shape......but I will never have the legs I want....I will never be satisfied with myself in a bathing suit.....I actually SOLD most of my workouts that have been just sitting there forever. I have kept about 20 (which is SOOOOOOOO little for me) and have decided to focus on just these. I've gotten much more into running, pilates, 30 minute workouts, not lifting sooooo heavy and am actually happier. I feel that my hour to 90 minute workouts got me no where....they just made me hungrier and obssessive. I never feel guilty now about taking a rest day and I'm no longer starving throughout the day. I don't want to have an extremely muscular look anyway, and no longer have goals to lift as heavy as possible....I was losing my "feminine" look, if that makes sense.

if anything i am doing more trading other then tribal bellydance videos. i am putting bucks down for those but for other stuff i am trying to trade that way i won't feel regret spending more money on a vid i might not like. i don't do cardio at home much anymore so not sure what i am doing about the pre order. holding out for now until we see updates and i think that will cement my decision on whether or not i will keep it.

I'm becoming more picky. I just sent back a DVD series because I knew if I forced myself to do it, I would end up throwing a dumbbell through my TV.

After the last disappointment, I realized I have a handful of instructors/DVD's I enjoy working out to. I love everything Cathe:), Jari Love, Shaun T, and Amy Bento's kickbox cardio. I loved Tony Horton, but his One on One cured me of that love affair.:eek:
I need to sell the videos that collect dust.
