    when i do squats with dumbells i hold them on my sides. usually 10-12 pds in each hand. putting them on shoulders is harder so you'd use a lighter weight. laura

    i dont use my high step for legpress anymore-at least for right now. i use a step with 4 risers on each side and do legpress with a band at the end of step.just like gymstle legs. i am more stable holding bands on each side than high step with dumbells. laura

    swimming and upper body

    seems like i am going to have to reduce my swimming if i do p90x. on the days i dont do upper swim hour after lunch,then cardio hr after dinner. so i will get to swim 3-4x a week. if i do cardio with light upper/lower swim on same day.thanks for your help laura

    i also live in an apartment. i bought a barbell and gave it away. i kept banging it against the wall and it was so much easier to use dumbells.i also didnt want to bother with putting plates on and off. since i also use dumbells,it took up too much space.and if you buy it your stuck with it...

    drill max is not a workout for building muscle tone. same with circuit max,bodymax,lic. slow and heavy and gymstyle chest/tri and back/shoulder/bi would be best unless u do premixes with just upper body 2-3 sets slow reps. laura

    also,i swim on the days as late asi work,8 or 9:00 and have energy after eating. flexible hours and on my feet 8 hrs.other days,cardio. works out great. i am so glad i joined 24 hour fitness. i am excited to keep improving. laura

    just wanna mention that i swam laps tonight. still cannot beat my record of 20 laps in 30 min. but i breath easier and was willing to continue swimming laps after the half hour. also, bring water! laura

    how much step is involved with the cardio that has drills? do the step cardios have intervals of lower body? i think i will be able to do step in a few months,but it is possible that i'll have to stop doing step. i cant decide whether to get the 4 day split because of that. laura
