slow & heavy dvd vs. gym styles

Maybe it's because I'm still a little green weight training-wise, but I gained a lot of strength in my biceps and triceps from the Gym Styles. I ordered Slow & Heavy but haven't done them yet - but it's good to know I'll gain still more muscle.

What's the next best dvd to buy after Basic Step and LI...

Not Cathe, but I went to Cardio & Weights after completing the beginner rotation. But that was before Low Impact Circuit. Either one is great.

    HSC vs HST

Are you talking about High Step Circuit (Intermediate) or High Step Challenge? The former is a beginner workout, the latter is at best high intermediate, but IMO it's advanced. The nice thing about HS Challenge is two sets of leg press and no lunges. The rest is pure fun.

    BUYERS BEWARE!!!!

I've only had good experiences. Not that it's your fault, but you are warned to hit the "submit" button only once or your card will be charged multiple times. I'm sure it takes time to get the charges reversed with your credit card company, multiply that by however many other customers who...

do you have a high step?

Hi Belinda! Yes, I would recommend buying one, especially if you use any of Cathe's high step-specific workouts. It's worth the purchase just for leg presses. Otherwise, using the regular bench at 10" would suffice. Heck, I use my coffee table for dips.:D

do you have a high step?

You can make it as high as you want. That's the beauty of the high step. I bought my HS topper and risers separately, but you can buy them together now.

    Cardio coaches

Thanks to iTunes, I can make my own workouts, mish mosh style. You can, too. Make them work for you.

    Intensity Series

I got the Intensity Series a few Christmases ago on VHS and definitely plan to get the DVD's so I can do the premixes. I doubt if I'll ever part with my tapes, though. :-)

    Cardio coaches

I love Cardio Coach! #3 is my favorite. I doubled the hill challenge to make it extra fun. Enjoy!

    Form Question on Shoulder Presses

I consulted my "Weight Training for Dummies" book. It says to stop lowering the weights once they are at or slightly below shoulder level. The weights should be next to your ears.

    Fess up....Gym Style Chest push-ups

I try to do all of them. One of these years I'll actually be able to do a single push up on my toes.

    Ceiling height?

I can reach up and touch the ceiling in my basement, so it's probably around 7'. The only issue I have is when Cathe has me extending the stability ball overhead. Step work is no problem. Leg presses might get dicey if I ever go over 14" - but that won't happen, so I'm safe.

    What do ya think ?

My right knee crackles, but it doesn't hurt at all. However, I try to vary my cardio to avoid overuse. It's a good idea whether our joints make noise or not. :-) I like to walk, run and bike.

More Weights less Cardio? Weight gain? or not?

My first "real" Cathe weight workout was Power Hour, back in September. I distinctly recall using no plates at all on my barbell for much of that workout. I'm slowly catching up to Cathe and can match her weight for many of her exercises, but certainly not all of them. She's a real...

More Weights less Cardio? Weight gain? or not?

I'm doing Cathe's December '06 rotation, which uses the Gym Styles and the new series (mostly in premix form) and running for cardio. The cardio is about 3x per week. I'm losing weight. IMO, the "X" factor is diet. You can only gain weight if you eat more calories than your body can use for...
