Dorky confession time!

Ok, I know some people think of us as being dorks for working out, and trying to be healthy. I'm used to that! But, I want to know something about you that is really kind of especially dorky, something you love, that's non-fitness related.

For instance, I *LOVE* listening to old cheezy easy-listening muzak. Like, when I'm home reading a book (Gone With the Wind!!) with a glass of wine, I love having the digital channel tuned to EZ-listening.....I can hear all the old classics, instroooo-mental style! Something about it is very calming to me, but when something really goofy comes on, I have to put my book down and laugh! And, for the life of me, it kills me when some Barry Manilow tune comes on, in elevator-style muzak!! :D What could be better than "Copacabana" played in clarinets?? Uh, hello, nothing!! ;)

So what's your guilty, dorky fun stuff? Do you watch the Brady Bunch and wish you were Marsha, Marsha, Marsha? Do you dream of meeting a movie star?? I'm just curious :)

too funny!

I love the Copacabana reference :D I just hate to admit that I like watching my 5 year old's fave shows...Hannah Montana...Zach and Cody (can't remember the name of the show)...but the one thing that I watch sometimes that I will always turn to a different channel when DH comes in the room is HSN or QVC! He thinks I'm weird watching those shows but I enjoy watching Wolfgang Puck, Sephora...but I can't watch anything about scrapbooking...can't resist the urge to purchase!

I live in rural WI, but was born and raised in suburbs of Cleveland, and then spent a good chunk of my life in Buenos Aires, soooo not a farm girl. BUT I have gotten into the habit of listening to ag radio in the a.m., the farm reports and the markets...hogs are up a couple of cents, feeder cows, ewes, bulls, cheese, etc. Crazy, I know,, but somehow I like it !

I'm a sucker for Christmas music. I get all sappy and emotional when it comes on.

i have the channels set for 2 stations for ALL christmas all day all month long :).

i like b-movies. movies that are low budget make nearly NO sense and have the worst acting in the world. but they are awesome LOL

I am a nerd/dork/geek all over. I love it that my daughter is in preschool because I always loved playing school as a kid. I like to know the breakdown of the curriculum and the schedule of the day. We also do some homeschool on her off days and ooh, I really love playing the teacher! :)

I also enter every contest Publishers Clearing House sends me... You'd think I would have won by now.

I like to watch my 9 year old's shows like Drake & Josh and Icarly -- it's easy to act like I'm not watching when he's in the room with me (I can putter around in the kitchen and pretend not to be paying attention when my husband comes in) but I've been flat out busted many times, like I'm the only one home and I choose to watch Drake & Josh!!! Then they come in and I'm like, hey look what I found on television!! Ha ha ha -- they never buy it!!

Truthfully when my 15 year old was around 9 I liked his shows too, which at that time were Even Stevens, Lizzie McGuire and The Amanda Show to name a few. I guess I just like television for 8-12 year olds. . . .

Which when you think about my other confession is very odd. . . .

I'm a HUGE Howard Stern fan. I love Howard and listen to him every day - while I usually will tune out when he's got another stripper or porn star on, I think he is the KING of the interview -- and he's very funny.

I'm a dork through and through. A few examples:

1. I go to the public library and check out books. I even call to "hold" certain books I want to read. The day a new book comes out in stores, my finger is dialing up the library. :D

2. When I'm alone in the car, I often prefer silence to music. With two kids, you can understand why.

Let's see...

Two things:

1. I'm a nut about grammar, punctuation, spelling, good writing ... but I'm an editor, so I guess that's not a bad thing. I see typos everywhere -- on packaging, in ads, signs, magazines. I'm not talking about e-mail and casual communication; I'm referring to places where it should have been caught by someone! (Even -- gasp! -- on Cathe's list of DVDs in Workout Manager! See "CTX Step and Inrevals").

2. Spongebob Squarepants. My kids love it. I love it. Don't tell anybody! :D

Spongebob is a *scream*. I watch it with my niece and nephew and we crack up!

As for dorky stuff, I'm just a pointy-headed geek in general, and always have been. I love Star Trek, Star Wars, X-Files, Battlestar Galactica, Batman, all that stuff. When I had cable I'd sometime watch the Lost in Space marathons and just be oh-so-happy!!

I also cry at Christmas music, occasionally actually hug a tree and get the biggest kick out of seeing my hens strolling around the yard. And sometimes on a clear night I'll sneak out and lie in the grass just to look at the billions of stars overhead and wonder what else might be out there.

Fun thread!

ETA: thought of another one while making coffee :D I'm a local food/sustainable living geek and can talk about it for hours. I've watched many an eye glaze over at parties while I was extolling the beauties of supporting your local farmer, lol!

I love those movies too! They are fun and make you feel good! (Pretty in Pink, Terms of Endearment, Big, Splash, Working Girl... even Flashdance!)

I enjoy the books I read to my boys ;-) It's taken us a year, but we are almost through the old Trixie Belden series (39 books) and I'm going to go into mourning after the last one. I'm a firm believer that series should never end. LOL

Ah, Dorkdom. I was born and raised there. :p

I agree about Howard Stern. I cannot stand the stripper stuff, but back when he was on regular radio, his interviews and news commentary were hilarious.

It's hard for me to pick and discuss only one aspect of my dorky self, but if I had to, it would be the fact that I LOVE 80s heavy metal videos. They kill me. :D

Well, this isn't going to contribute too much, but DH and I were doing something the other day (for the life of me I can't remember what,) and we just looked at each and other and said "man we are a couple of nerds."

I think just about everything I do is really nerdy and uncool. Oh well, I think I am funny, and I like it that I am a nerd!

Not that I think it makes me a dork - but I listen to Howard every day as well. I work from home and listening to him everyday really helps me get through some of the longer days. He is an amazing interviewer - and man on Sirius - he hasnt ever been better!!!

As far as truly dorky stuff - my kids and I are and just silly with our pets - they all have about 15 names they go by and we are constantly talking silly to them and about them. For example - Snoop Dogg has gone from Puggles, the boo, the poo, the fat boy, puggle-wuggle-woo. The boo seems to be the one that he gets called the most now...

My son just laughed at me the other day when I was trying to describe when I took our kitten in to the vet for the first time - I was like - "What are we going to list as her official name?" and we werent sure. LOL She started as Kitten Mitten (she is all black and has no mittens - go figure) - then Ninja since she is a wild one chasing the dogs and all - then somehow it became Mitter. Which of course isnt even a word..... LOL... So I made the appt as ninja, changed it when I got there to Mitten, then when I filled out the paperwork it became Mitter... So I guess Mitter it is.... :)

Fun Thread....

Oh - had to ETA - I used to love watching Lizze Mcguire and Even Stevens with the kids as well - I am sure I would have been caught watching it back then as well... Now that they are teens - it is Family Guy and the Simpsons....

Suite Life Of Zach and Cody, but now they have a new name - Suite Life something else I think. I think I know them all by heart b/c DD8 can't get enough, no matter how many times she's seen them! We have to limit TV time or she would become one with the screen

I don't know what my dorky thing is, but I do know there is plenty to choose from when it comes to me!

I should say that I don't think it makes me a dork either that I love Howard but it's one of those things that when I tell people I love Howard or I say something like "the other day Stern said. . . " I always get weird looks and the obligatory "YOU listen to Howard Stern?!!!!" so I think of it as a confession -- actually I tell anyone who will listen

I agree - the he is AMAZING on Sirius!!!! Well worth the money! :D

I wish my teenager watched the Simpsons and Family Guy -- he's all about Sports Center 24/7 -- I just can't do it. . . .
