work out room

I'm so jealous of everyone who has a dedicated room for their workouts! I use my living room and I have to push the couch out of the way, move all my weights, step, chair, ball, mat, etc. in the room, THEN I can start my workout. Afterwards, I have to move all my stuff back out and fix the room! It's another workout! LOL!

Someday . . .

Oh thank God Tricia! I thought I was the only one who has to do this!! I hate having to set up my bar bell esp. If I even think of leaving all my stuff out my kids use it as playground equipment.

I'm with you too! I have a Living Room full of Workout Gear! Hey....whatever it takes......I too, dream of that special room......Maybe one day! ;)

I use to have a room in my finished basement that was 23 x 17, but I had to kick myself out of it and give it up.:(

So, I ended up moving up all my weights and floor type of equipment upstairs into my "living room." We never used it as a formal living room. I decided to leave the dreadmill and a few big items down in another area of the basement. It was unused anways, plus I like the gyms equipment and variety better.
For year and something I worked out in that the living room, but it was a mess. It was carpeted. Nothing was organised. My equipment surrounded the room which made my workout area smaller. I would end up going to the gym, because I didn't feel like it was inviting to go workout in there.

I still need to get some french doors to separate this room from the main entrance to my house. I still have a few things to put up, which hopefully will sometime soon....I'm procrastinating.
I have pictures, but I need to unload them from the camera. I will post these as soon as my son gets home from school.

BTW, my room has many colors, but it works for me (and hubby, too)!

Wow, Jann!! Gimme, gimme!!

We have a finished basement and I used to workout down there but it kept being reinvented as a play-room. I finally gave up and now I do my Cathe workouts on the main floor and have a stair-master in my office. I could not agree more about the flooring!! We have laminent floors which I believe have more give than solid hardwood, at least that's my experience, I'm no expert.

I'm really curious about the spring floors you gals mentioned!!

Happy Monday!
Pam

Thanks so much. I love my workout area and I am very lucky my kids are grown and my DH has his space in another part of the basement. It works for us.

Spring floors got a lot attention back when STS first was announced. If you search I am sure you can find a lot of suggestions. I think(don't quote me) Cathe has a spring floor in the space they film workouts. Or start a thread asking the gals who have it to tell you about theirs -- I would love to hear more myself. :) It has taken me years to piece together all my equipment. My latest present was the heavy bag, now I need more videos (OH Cathe) to use it. ;)

If you can afford a spring floor than I would choose this option. I almost went with what Jann chose, but I don't why I changed my mind. I think it's because I wanted dark grey flooring.

I could not afford spring flooring. I chose mats. I couldn't raise my floor that much since my workout area is on the main floor. My flooring was about 1/2" above the main floor with the double layer of mats. I found a transition strip moulding that fixed this problem. You'd never know that the two are different heights. I also wanted this project done ASAP.

To speed things along with less grunting and groaning from my hubby, I helped a lot. I designed, cut 97% of the shelving wood and also painted it. I cut all the subflooring pieces and installed the flooring. I painted the room. He hung and screwed anything that needs to go up or be affixed to a wall.
The colors stripes for the room were pulled from the room across. I wanted some transition between the rooms. French doors will be added later.
I love my floor. It feels great walking barefoot in there. In the past I always worked with my mats on carpeting. I couldn't believe how different the mats feel over a harder surface. I feel that it's much more stable.

Omgosh Namita!!! I was showing my husband your gym pictures. He has been bugging me for his own locker -- :D I showed him how you built one LOVE IT!! Very nice!

Janie - Is it's own workout, isn't it? LOL!

Jann I am still in LOVE with your workout room. I finally got my basement cleared out, but still have lots and lots of work to do. Hubby and I are trying to figure the floor out as I have been cracking the tiles with my dumbbells. Eeeeek. I hope to be confident enough to post pics by this coming summer. It's my shrine and people love to look at it when they come to visit so I guess I am doing something right. Anyway, it's so good to see it again, it looks like you put some more stuff in it since I seen it last. Keep on enjoying it!

atiman, I love your workout room. Those colors are awesome. Care if I copy? The quotes are really neat. I know someone that sells uppercase living, so I know just where to buy mine. Are those pictures going to be available in a couple of months? Thanks for posting.

Flooring is so important. Luckily there are so many options depending on your needs and/or tastse. I would love to see pictures when you are ready to show them. :)There are a few new things. I have made gift giving very easy. The list is ongoing. :D

Out of curiousity, how big is the room? Thanks!

The lockers/storage unit really helps keep the room clean. I love it, too.

Thank You. No, I don't care if you you copy. I'd never know, right?;)

I have a machine that cuts lettering. It was a lifesaver and really saved me lots of money doing it myself.

If the pictures are down just PM me and I'll post these up again.

The mirrors really help make the room appear larger. It's roughly 16 x 13.5-14 ft. I wanted to break one wall down and use the room aside this room, but hubby wasn't buying this suggestion. I keep trying, and it's not working.:D

It's more than enough space to do workouts that use up floor space.

WOW! The mirrors really do help!! I would have guessed it was a lot bigger.
