I'm not up to speed apparently, but what are the star ratings for? I must say I never give them a second glance. Are they really that important?

Hi LindaI read the other day that you are doing Insanity too - what do you think? I really liked it. And thanks, Debbie. That means a lot to me. It really does.
Now, for this one star rating bit- the solution, I believe, if SNM won't respond, is to arbitrarily rate threads from 1 to 5 stars, so that in the end, a rating of anywhere from a 1 through a 5 really means nothing. I am sure that the intention was good when they established the system - there just wasn't much forethought I suppose into the negative possibilities. So if we basically disarm it ourselves by making the stars mean nothing, problem solved!!

.Oh, I just think the stars are a joke now, but, when someone gave me a 1 star a long time ago, I sure didn't like it!

I agree! What is the point of this thread except call attention to whomever rated the thread??? I don't even look at those stars.
All this thread was hurt the feelings of a member who was falsely accused. So juvenile to start a thread like this.
Jonezie - I don't understand why you feel the need to publicly scold someone?? Besides, do you really think that someone who rates a 1 star on a birthday thread is going to give a frack what you say to that person??

Thank you to Janie and MadnNatsmom too. I realize members do not know me because I rarely post in the OD but that does not mean I would do as accused. I stay away from the negativity because it does not help anyone in any way. I just want this to go away.
I'm sorry that Lauramax in her paranoia singled you out wrongly. I don't know who the others she claims to be against her are either. She owes you an apology.
And Jonezie is trying to moderate the forum again. Who cares what is starred, bringing attention to it only feeds into the star ratings. Ignore it.

Shirl, I completely second what Kate said...and am SO sorry you were accused of something you didn't do. Hugs from me, too. I certainly was not implicating you, or one person for that matter, when I started the thread. This has been going on for a while, and not just on that thread.
It's another reason that the star rating system, at least an anonymous one, should go. In 95% of cases, it only creates a spirit of animosity and underhandedness. If a person's name was attached, not only would it eliminate a lot of the passive aggressive BS, but it would make it so people were not wrongly accused of being a one-star stalker.
ImFiddy...while you didn't say it to me directly, I appreciate that you have the guts to voice your opinion out in the open.
In any event, there are several forum members who want to see the star ratings disabled. And we are taking the proactive steps to let Cathe and SNM know how we feel in the hope that it can be modified or eliminated to create a more user-friendly environment on the forum.

PS...Shirl, I don't know if you saw the thread "Star Ratings" in the Ask Cathe forum, but Gogigi did a wonderful job of coming to your defense and articulating how the system affects innocent forum members.
And for everyone who rallied to get the rating system disabled or modified, I know we are celebrating the great response from SNM!

I could care less about the stars. And I really get tired of everyone's overwrought concern about this forum. If you like it, use it. If you don't, don't. This shouldn't be our main source of human interaction and we shouldn't get so caught up in it. As much as I like some of you, I don't really know you and have no idea what kind of people you are off the forum - and you don't know me, either. And that's cool. This forum is useful for information and for entertainment and when things get heated around here, that's when everyone gets excited and starts posting like mad. So clearly, controversy is more entertaining and therefore, why try to stop it? I don't want everyone to be nice and get along - how boring is that? Bring on the backstabbing and bitch slapping; I'll get the popcorn and a good time will be had by all.

1. The poor one-star stalker would NOT have had any fun,
2. No one would have had hurt feelings,
3. No one would have been falsely accused.
Not ignoring this person created hurt where none needed to be. Water off a duck's back, friends.
I know Lauramax and a few others have been stalked, but I'm sure they aren't crying themselves to sleep over it, so who cares if someone gets their kicks from one-star clicks?

I agree that people get too worked up over the star rating. It's not worth the attention. On the other hand, if people always look the other way, nothing ever gets changed.
Personally, I think it says nothing about the person that is being "one-starred" but it says everything I need to know about the person who is so petty to stalk people they don't agree with. These people are dishonest cowards in my book.
