Who gets one???

I've never gotten one (for no particular reason) though I am taking my son who is 2 years old to get one soon....

I've never gotten one, partly based on what you just said. There's no guarantee that the strain I was vaccinated would be the same strain I would get.

I will get one. It is encouraged because of my profession, but honestly, I would get it anyway.

I was very nervous about getting my first one 2 years ago because I don't really respond well to vaccinations or shots. I have not had the flu since I started getting the shot and I work with school age children who are always sick. I think I had the flu (horribly) for about 5 years straight before I started getting the shot. Anyway, knock on wood, I hope it works again this year!

>I haven't gotten one in a couple of years--but only out of
>pure laziness. I didn't make an appt. with my Dr. and didn't
>search out the places that were supplying them.

I can say "ditto" to this. This is why I don't get them. I like and respect my current doctor so I might just call and ask her if she recommends it for me and go with that.

I have never gotten one and don't plan on getting one. I am very healthy...only had 4 hours of sick time so far this year. I haven't had the flu in about 5 or 6 years. I'm not big on taking medicine when I don't need it.

I get it some years, not others. Like others have said, getting the shot is no guarantee of immunity. I got a horrible case of the flu four years ago AND I had gotten a flu shot a couple months before. I assume it was a different strain. I never have my kids get the flu shot.

Chocolate IS the answer, regardless of the question.

I plan on getting one. I care for my elderly mother and don't want to risk exposing her to it (she also gets one). I'll be sure to tell my doctor that having a flu shot will make me "over medicated."

I get one. My company gives them to us free. My job is deadline oriented, and I just don't want to face the possibility of being ill for 10 days in the middle of a proposal. I had the flu a few years back and it was AWFUL!!!!! I have no desire to repeat it if at all possible.

I just had my annual physical last week and my doc didn't even mention it. All I know is I've never had a flu shot, and never had the flu. My DH gets one every year, though because his company offers them.

I've never had the flu, but when my employer started ofering the flu shot, I started getting the shots every year. I've never had any side effects from the shot.

My company started offering them for free last year, so I do get them now. I will admit though that I did get sick after getting mine last year. I came down with a fever and chills that night and felt like crap, but was fine in the morning. I'll be interested to see how my body reacts this year.

I've also been getting them since my company started offering them and haven't had any side effects.

Get it.

I have gotten one for the past several years and haven't had the flu. The one year I didn't get the vaccine, I got hit with a Mac truck and was out for over a week.

Besides, you can't get sick from the vaccine. It's not like they're injecting you with a small dose of the real thing. The vaccine does not contain the actual flu virus. The worst that will happen is that your arm will be sore at the site of injection.

(PS, I'm a senior in a BSN program, for whatever it's worth!!!)

There are several strains of flu out there, and the CDC picks around 20 of the most prevalent strains to include in the vaccine every year. And every year, the strains of flu included are different. But, it's pretty accurate.

Besides, why take time away from your workout schedule and life to be sick when it could be prevented. It's a win-win! :)
