Who else gets tired from her workouts?

I took a nap today

I did 30/30 HIIT and the upper body from Muscle Max, and I always mix things up. I did watch Pyramid, and it is not that bad. I am going to do it in about three days. Tomorrow is kickboxing, my least favorite. I might do Lower Body Blast after.

I get it too

I used to workout 5-6 days a week, pretty high intensity. Now, I try to alternate the more intense with the less intense. The only thing with us Catheletes is we tend to think that the only benefit is when we are just working at 85% to 100% of max, and it turns out that the benefit from the workout comes in the recovery. So what I'm trying to say is when you want that rest, take it. Thats your bodies time to build muscle and bone. You can't actually build bone when you are awake. Thats one of the reasons babies sleep so much. I learned this when I had to re-grow much of my toes (they had turned to powder when I broke them running one time.) I was so sleepy.

So, in answer to your question- yes I can feel super sleepy. I need to be restful and quiet for at least a couple of hours after. I liked one of the ladies ideas to do it in the evening, but I find I don't have enough energy to really fly over the step unless I'm fresh in the AM. Thats just me though, and it may not apply to you.

Are you getting enough post workout nutrition? The only other thing might be not enough potassium, we sweat it out when we do Cathes.

(yes I tend to refer to my entire workout collection as 'my cathes'.)

I always mix things up

I am doing Cathe's MMA Boxing today, and after that, Lower Body Blast. Yesterday was a short workout. I do wish for more HIIT workouts. I would rather do half an hour of a very high impact workout than some stupid mix of HiLo where I have to do the whole thing as high impact as I can. All the years of running did something to my metabolism. I still run but only three miles or so. I used to do dumb things such as race a half marathon, win a trophy or medal for my age range, and then go out and run eight miles the next day.

When I first found Cathe and this forum in 2004*, she talked often about varying intensity and types of workouts. Clearly, she still believes that based on her response in this thread. Anyway, I still follow that rule. It has never let me down either. Some weeks I have more high intensity workouts. Some weeks less. I often take a recovery week about every 4 weeks or so and do low intensity exercise with lots of stretching. Day to day, I feel pretty good. Great even. Sometimes I still have to take a nap after a tough workout. That's okay because I love naps. :p Feeling tired sometimes is normal. If you're feeling that way all the time, change your exercise or your diet and see how it goes. If that isn't helping, do see your health practitioner to rule out any problems.

Hope you feel better soon.

*Yes, it took me TWO YEARS to work up the courage to post, lol.

I know I overdid today

I did kickboxing, running and Lower Body Blast, the 50 premix, and my heart rate monitor said I burned close to 1,000 calories. Tomorrow has to be much easier.

I love your post Rapidbreath, could not agree more.

I personally do not do active recovery day at the end of my six to seven day cycle. I do take a complete rest day.During my rest day, I still walk as much as I can, climb stairs instead of taking a lift or escalator etc.....It is not a "lazy day" ;-)
An appropriate recovery is as important as the effort put into those over 80% max workout. A healthy fit life is about keeping a balance to ensure not to overdo it.:):)

Overtraining with poor recovery time does take away the motivation, the fun element and the effectiveness of the actual training regimen. Just a thought;)

Wait until you turn 50. :p

On the weekends or otherwise do not have to work, I take a mid-morning nap w/my golden retrievers, which is heaven to me (don't tell my husband). I pretty much have been doing what Cathe recommended, although I admit that I don't usually take a rest day. On Sundays, I do low intensity, shorter cardio w/an upper body focus (punching segments from MMA Boxing, heavy bag work, etc) with an upper body strength workout.

I manage stress/SAD with exercise, so movement keeps me :)

I love taking naps. I wish they let us have siestas at work!!

The personal trainer I worked with several years ago told me you should feel like taking a nap after a good workout. Sounds like Renee, faithnveggies, labnick and CDPotier are doing something right.

Actually, I am thankful to have read this thread because I have wondered if there was something wrong with me because sometimes I am just that wiped out after a workout that I feel like a nap!

Whew! Great!

Wow! Seriously? That is a lot! I don't think I have ever done this much in one day!
