Nope, definitely not gay Flat. Got married about 2 years ago to one of the stylists at his shop. Lina is so low-key, I didn't even know she got married to Nick until I read it in a magazine. She doesn't tell people and doesn't talk about it. She is an awesomely talented hair stylist.

Thanks for the introduction to your nephews, Nancy! I was super confused when I saw your avatar. They look like super cuties.

Why did I think Nick's salon was in Chicago?! NYC makes way more sense. I love good haircuts- I used to get a good haircut, but can't afford it this year, so I just got it cut from a supercuts-type. There is unfortunately a big difference, and the top of my head now looks like a mushroom. Sigh. I'm hoping it grows out, LOL!

Makeup. I love makeup. I'm so glad we all were able to help you go have fun yesterday! You looked fabulous to me before, but I can see the difference after MAC and I approve. :p

Let us know whenever you want more compliments, Nancy! ;)

Amy, I know what you mean about haircuts. I went to a barber for years while I was in school and getting started in my career. My haircuts cost $12 back then. My thinking was that I had good hair, so I should save my money for things I needed more. I got a late start in my career, so I only started going to Arrojo Studio a few years ago.

Arrojo is all about having your hair go natural. They have saved me over 20 mins. in the morning that I used to spend blow drying and straightening. Now I don't even use a blow dryer. And since now I only have to go in 4 times per year, I don't even think I'm spending that much more!

It has been a lot of fun sharing this experience with you. Now it's your turn. Take a before pic, then go for a makeover and we'll comment. It really is fun! :D With your perfect features, it won't take much to have you looking like a movie star.

LOL you're cracking me up, Nancy!!!

If I were Nick or any of his business partners (I thought there was a manager there but I didn't know he had a wife who worked there- are they the same?), I would be focusing on your billable hours!!! That 20 minutes every day EASILY adds up to the cost of the cut, and then some!

My thinking is, as long as they leave enough hair length, I'll pull it into a ponytail. :p I did coax it into a curly/messy style last night better than I had expected.

I've had makeovers before at Sephora, and every time the person makes me look like I've got spiders on my eyes. Creepy! They can't stand the length of the lash- they must make it bigger, stickier, scarier!

Ooh we should all take a turn, and have a schedule for one or two people to go for a makeover each day/week. We're all headed to the malls anyway, let's go! :D

hmmmm... maybe that's what I need a makeover.

I've had such a tough year with my son's health and now it's 4 mos since my mother was institutionalized (and we last talked- she lives in CO).

I'm starting my 8th week of my comeback and body is shaping up. I started getting very close to a friend at work - who is going through a divorce. I realize right now the timing for a close friendship is not right for EITHER of us.

So lots of stuff going on.

$$$ is very tight with a daughter in college and spend a semester abroad. So I'm not sure I should do it now?

I'm not sure I'm in a place where I want to bring a lot of attention to a new look?

but you have me thinking.

How do you go about getting this done?

Great idea, Robyn. You need to start by choosing a make-up line. Then you can go to the place where they sell it and let them do your face. There is no obligation to buy, but if you like it, be forewarned, you will want to buy! Be careful not to choose a pricey make-up line.

Another idea is to, say, go on the QVC website and choose a make-up line that they sell, like Bare Escentuals. Then go to Sephora or a dept. store and have them do a makeover on you. Then tell them you'll think about it, go home and buy everything on QVC. You can really cut costs that way!

Robyn -

I have gone to the Mac counter several times at different places and they have always been really great at walking me through different products. I know - of course they are out for the sell - but sometimes it is amazing how a great eye color - or new color of lipstick can make you feel. I use exclusively MAC, including their incredible brushes and would not go back to anything else. They are great! Several times a year they put our color collections that I find I use the most for eyes. They usually come in a quad of colors and very fun to use.

You can always browse at www.maccosmetics.com too. They offer free shipping most of the time too.

Hmmmm Anne and Nancy that sounds great. Maybe I'll give it a try.

I could use something like that. While I'm at it maybe do something with my hair too.

I recently started getting very close with a friend going through a divorce, realized the timing is NOT good. We tried as just friends but we have a deep connection so maybe in a year or so when his wounds have healed. In the meantime though... maybe I'll go and do something for me! It has been a tough year and I think this may be great ....

Do I need to make an apt?

- Robyn

My daughter has the camera at college and I dont think the pics from my cell phone will work .... but at least I can do this now!

Nancy,

Beautiful picture!! Your make-up is so natural looking! I love it. My kind of make-up.

Dallas :)

PS. I e-mailed you about the "Grumpy" thread. Did you get it?

Very pretty Nancy!! I love MAC comsmetics as well. I especially like their eye makeup.

I also love Bobbi Brown. I use both.

:)

Sorry I didn't respond Robyn. At the Mac store or Sephora, you definitely don't need an appointment. At a dept. store, you just might. It's worth calling ahead.

After all you've been through, you really do deserve to do something just for YOU!

-Nancy

Robyn, LOL, I think what your daughter meant was that she likes MAC and can't believe you might, too...

MAC is for whomever likes it and wears it. The end. :7 Enjoy!!

Thanks Amy! That's too funny (and true). I JUST made an appt on 1/7 at 10:30. Yippee... Here's to a NEW year! You have to buy 4 things! I can do that right!

Nancy - I'm doing it :)

Yay Robyn!!!!!
I totally agree with Amy. I just came from the Mac store and the crowd didn't look particularly young to me. I didn't see a single teen in the store. Don't forget to take a picture of your makeover if you can.

Hi Nancy and everyone!

I couldn't post here in a while...I had complained to my DH that my laptop had "slowed" down and I think he played with my cookie settings which didn't allow me to post. I didn't realize it until now. I'm gonna be mad at him when he comes home....lol. There was so much I wanted to comment on.

I've been reading about everyone's holiday....mine was good.

I love your new/old makeup. (I realize that this isn't the newest of threads.) I'm going to have to try MAC cosmetics soon too. I deserve it and I've been meaning to. I always here nice things about it but hate spending so much money on makeup. But even more than that, I think you deserve a commission from MAC. It seems that alot of us are going to try it. I need a "pick-me-up".

Hi Nancy - gosh we can't even say NYC Nancy! I agree Nancy should get a commission! I resurrected the thread yesterday, when I decided to actually schedule the makeover! See it's meant to be, you are meant to have a makeover too :)

Hi Robyn - Do you have to make an appointment? We have a MAC counter in Macy's here at the mall. I guess it would be better to make an appointment in case it's busy when you get there. This should be my New Year's Resolution....a makeover. (And eat less, of course.)
