What do you know about MAC cosmetics?

OMG Nancy you are the cutest!!! Thanks for posting. I hope you had fun with all that- and I hope you don't mind me tagging along vicariously!! ;)

The makeup does look very nice, btw. I love all the colors you have on in that photo. Oh la la for sure!

Nicole and Amy, thank you so much! Tagging along Amy? No way. Shopping is so much more fun when it's shared. And I just didn't have the heart to drag DH along on this one.

Nancy,
You have very cute hair.

MAC is the ONE makeup I haven't tried...now I'm totally curious and want to go check them out. You look very nice and natural. Every time I walk by them they are doing out there makeovers so I never really thought about trying them...until now!

You are very sweet, Angela.

Yes, the make-up really was very natural-looking. I didn't ask for anything in particular. I just told them about my sensitive skin and that was it. The thing I was most impressed by was how the makeup artist knew that my skin was reacting to the SPF ingredients in my make-up. I was planning to see a dermatologist, and she saved me the visit (and $300 for the cost of the consultation). I am very grateful to MAC for that!

Nancy,

You look beautiful. Your make-up looks fabulous! I use MAC foundation and loose powder and I love it. Maybe I'll take a look at some of their other products.

Your hair style is very cute. What hair products do you use? Do you let it air dry? I have naturally curly hair and I'm always interested how other curly girls manage their manes.

Michele

Thanks very much, Michele.

Yes, I do let my hair air dry. As for products, first I saturate my hair with Prive gel relaxant, then add a good deal of Prive curl activating creme. Then I add some corkscrew curls by twisting segments very tightly in several places around the top. The rest just curls (or frizzes, depending upon the weather), on its own.

I am really enjoying the highlights that my hairdresser added. At my age, I think my black hair was just too dark and looked too harsh next to my face. But I wasn't willing to dye it because that's too high maintenance. So my hairdresser just added some highlights which I think really soften things up. And I only have to go in every 12 weeks! That's the best part.

What do you use?

Nancy,

I'm going to have to look into Prive products. I've never heard of them, but then again, I am in Ohio--LOL!

I use Ouidad products. The entire line is made especially for curly hair. My favorite product is a conditioner called Deep Treatment. You apply it after you wash your hair and don't rinse it out, then put on a cap and sit under a dryer for 20 minutes, then rinse it out. It really brought the life back to my old, gray, color treated hair. Along with that I use Curl Quencher Shampoo (I don't use shampoo more than once or twice a week), and Curl Quencher conditioner. I use TONS of conditioner and I don't rinse it out entirely. I often use the conditioner as a shampoo. I follow that up with a leave in conditioner called Botanical Boost, then I finish with a gel called Tress FX. I know that sounds like a lot but I'm so used to this routine that I can get through it in a flash. I put little pin curls around the top and let my hair air dry.

One of these days I'm coming to New York for a good haircut! There isn't anyone around here that specializes in curly hair. I would love to have Nick Arrojo from WNTW style my hair. That would be such a thrill for me!

Michele

Michele, if you come I'll go with you. That's my salon, and Nick really is awesome. I can't afford him though, so his wife cuts my hair. She's really talented too.

Soooo cute Nancy! And, your skin is sooo young-looking. I had to laugh, please don't be offended by this...you said you were going to post a new pic of you and then, I looked over and saw you changed your pic on your avatar so I clicked on your profile to see it bigger and saw it was a DOG!!! I had to laugh. Sorry! You are just too cute and the make-up looks fabulous. I am wondering if they sell MAC near here. I have never seen it. Does anyone know if they sell it at Dillards or Kaufmann's?

LOL Debbie! Guess you were thinking maybe that make-up wasn't so great, huh? :D

As long as I was posting to picturetrail, I changed my avatar to a picture of my 2 nephews. The human one and the canine one. Aren't they too cute?

LOL! Right, & I thought you needed a shave too! Ha! Your DN (BOTH of them ;-)) are very cute. I think he looks like you...the one with less hair! Ha! Thanks for sharing Nanc!

Wow, Nancy!! You've had a brush with celebrity:eek: :D . I'm sure Nick's wife would be sufficient for me. I might be able to arrange a trip this spring. My wonderful DH took me to NY for my 50th birthday last May. We stayed in a lovely B&B in the Hudson Valley and we had a great time. I would love to come there again. If I can manage it I will definitely let you know. I would love to meet you.:)

Michele

Wow Nancy you look great.

I don't use much make up at all. I've always gone for the natural look but think it's past that time for me now!

I've got a daughter in college and son a Jr in HS so I don't have much money to spare but your pic is so inspiring.

Love your hair too :)

Hi Debbie,

I don't know if the sell MAC at Dillards or Kauffman's, but Macy's has a MAC counter. A mall in your area might have a free standing MAC store.

Michele

You guys really made my day! Pushing fifty can be a bit traumatizing, so all the kind words are very much appreciated. Thank you all so much!

Robyn, make-up doesn't have to be terribly expensive. The greatest cost is the brushes, and you just need to buy those once. And there are even low-cost brushes that will do a good job.

Great picture, Nancy! You have such beautiful deep-set eyes. I think the make-up looks fabulous. I also think the woman at MAC was right -- the pink blush suits you better. I compared this new look to your avatar yesterday. The make-up in that picture had more of a yellowish tinge. (Don't know if that was just the picture though.)

Thanks, Susan. That's exactly right. The other blush was more yellow. Also the foundation was a tad too dark for me.

Perhaps the biggest difference though between those two pics is that I now have more highlights. I think the highlights have done more to soften my face than anything. My hair was completely natural in color up until about a year ago because I thought once you get started with color, you spend your life at the salon, and I didn't want to make the time commitment. (I'd rather be working out). But I was very pleasantly surprised to find otherwise. Now I'm really into the whole highlight thing. Black hair was fine when I was young, but at 49 it was just too much starkness next to my skin.

This has been fun. Now someone else should go for a makeover and come back with pics so we can all comment! :D
