We're in This Together***Jan 2-Jan31st**

I just read this response from Cathe with regards to traditional-style sit-ups being back in style. Very interesting:

"Full sit ups have come back into the "acceptable" list of ab exercises for a few years now. It started when planks became more popular. The fitness industry shifted towards functional core strength which opened a new category of metabolic workouts which then started turning its back on traditional crunches and making planks and full sit ups and all variations of them more "in". The thought is that when you live life you use your muscles to react to whatever is thrown your way so therefore you should train with a more non-traditional approach which involved, twists, deep squats, full sit ups, box jumps, pull ups & push ups from all angles, etc.

I personally believe both approaches work well (crunches and full sit ups). That being said, I do think you need to use "today's" less conservative approach to fitness more conservatively than what I am seeing put out there.

As far as the sit up push up combo....PLEASE do them as slowly as you need to. They are tough!!! But as you get better at them you will see that you are able to flip over and do them with more speed too. Bottom line: Do whatever you can do to the bet of your ability."

Thanks, Natty, for the info. Haven't done full sit ups in years. I agree that its good to change things up.
Ride gets easier the more you do it. Time flies with it. Last night, I did more hovering, etc.
Also, Cathe and I pm'd on FB cause the phone app wasn't working. Blessed she does it without charging.

I never got back yesterday because our internet was down. I made it through the workout and took the extra time to stretch really really well. Hoping to ward off as much soreness as possible. I am sore however, especially in my upper chest area. I did all the push-ups on my knees. By the last set I fell on the floor. So I defiantly went to failure on the chest. The weights went pretty well. The circle things she does were going good but when she switched directions ouchie mama. I never did find tubing so I used a band. I didnt like that so I will need to find the bands or invest in new ones. I need to adjust but did take good notes for the next time. I also walked around the track because it's wrestling season. That means that it's probably almost been a year since we started our check-in because I remember talking about wrestling. This year my daughters have decided not to wrestle though : ( Ihave to be honest, I'm a little dissappointed.

Nat- So with the Leslie DVDs', do you just walk in place? You sweat? I never sweat when walking anymore. I do love walking but just feel like its lacking. Dont get me wrong Iwill always be a walker. Sorry your shopping trip was a dud.

Marie - Guilty.... I loose my keys too. When I get home I just drop them, wherever. I glad you got your new DVDs.

Colleen - How did HOCO go?I hope your son is doing better. Most of all I hope it doesnt float through the whole family because you dont have that much time before your vacation.

Jen - I do think ride goes by faster than her previous spinning DVD. I tell myself it's just a few songs. Then before I know it, it's over.

Today I have cardio leg blast. I have a feeling I'm gonna spend more time observing than anything else.

Sarah

Good evening girls!

Well, today I had the morning off since Dylan was still a little sick and had to stay home from school again. Poor kiddo threw up in his bed last night and didn't want to wake us so he slept on the floor of his bedroom! :( He ended up being fine today, but we didn't want to take a chance and kept him home one more day. Mark came home at about 12:30 to take over for me so I could at least work the afternoon so we only had to move a few patients.

I did Horizontal Conditioning Volume 3 plus Xtrain burn set back (note to self: need to buy a set of 30 lb dumbells!). Since I had the extra time, I decided to test out my new Paul Katami 4x4x2 workout (yes another new workout...). I didn't plan to do the whole thing, just to sort of try it and get the feel of it. I did the first 25 minutes and LOVED it! The only thing that bugged was the ridiculously short and inadequate warm up. Paul and many other instructors these days seem to think a proper warm up is unecessary . Thank goodness Cathe doesn't do that! I looked at the timer on my dvd player and sure enough, he puts in high impact right around the 1 minute mark, then the warm up is supposedly complete at 2:17. There is just no way that is sufficient for me. I'm going to plan on doing my own thorough warm up before starting this workout next time.

Sarah- I was suprised at how well HC went today! It's been a few weeks since I did any, so I thought I'd suffer but it wasn't bad actually. Are you going to try and throw some HC in with XTrain? I decided to alternate weeks of HC+Burn set back with the XTrain Chest, Shoulders, Back disc...that way I can at least get it in every other week. I simply can't find anymore room than that for now.

I was thinking today...not only do I have enough workouts at this point to literally do a different workout every day and not repeat one in at least 6 months, but I have that many that I love. If you threw in the ones that I'm actually sort of "meh" over...it'd probably be close to a year.

Oh crap...was going to post more personals but my last patient of the day is here...gotta run! TTYL

ETA: I'm back! quick comment about the full sit ups...I noticed more of that, too actually and I like it way better than crunches. Crunches just bore me to tears I'm afraid! :( I love the 5 sit ups/5 push ups challenge. I only did 6 rounds to Cathe's 8 but I'm excited to see if I can improve with time. Okay...gotta go again!

Supercuts flies by too. Didn't do Burpees and 2 sitting pushup combo although I attempted one.
Creepy neighbor is back. He lives behind my neighbor's house across the street. I thought he was watching me so I worked out between windows. My house sits up and back. Will change my window treatment or/and change my workout times.

Hi everyone :)

Yesterday Bella and I enjoyed a nice 1hr walk outside. It was incredibly warm for Winter! I felt spoiled, but very appreciative.

My w/o was Xtrain Legs (barre only) + 100RC Hip Thrusts + Core 1. Just to see my form and how high my leg was going up for the barre, I popped my mirror right in front. To my surprise I found my leg up pretty high :D. I did that entire barre section with NO breaks, NO modifications, my leg rarely dropped or fatigued. Dare I say it was on the easy side? :D. For the 100RC Hip thrusts, I used a 25lbs barbell, as I'm afraid to strain my lower back. I think my form is good, so next time I will go up to 30lbs. As for Core 1 :)o) I was whining like a little child. Anyone else starting burning 5min in??? I did not complete the entire section . Yup, I wussed out.

Colleen
Sorry about Dylan :(. Poor little guy. Hope he recovers quickly. Speaking of which, I LOVE your new Avatar :).
Your w/o yesterday was . I was looking at Paul's new workout on Collage :D. He is so damn friggin' cute!
BTW, I responded to you a few posts back, not sure if you saw. I'm so impressed you can do that 100RC with a 40lbs barbell!

Sarah
With the Leslie's, yes you are walking + jogging, but not just in place. You walk backwards, sideways, knee lifts, butt kicks, grapevines, all that type of stuff. Yes, I WAS sweating! You average a 4-5MPH walk, which is pretty fast! The jog intervals had me cramping, and I never cramp, not even with 40/20!

Jen
Ohhh, The Biggest Loser debate on your post in OD. I won't touch that topic with a 10-ft pole.
All your talk about spinning, and I crave biking again. I have not gone riding steadily since Bella's birth. I would LOVE to acquire a spin bike. I hate that exercise equipment is so expensive . For a nation that is fighting obesity, you think they would make the stuff more affordable :rolleyes:.

Have a great day ladies!

Morning ladies!

I can't decide if I want to do Tabatacize or Supercuts today...actually I want to do Tabatacize but I'm worried about the impact since I did Cardio leg blast on Sunday and the 25 min of Paul's workout yesterday had some impact, too. I promised myself only one day a week of high impact in January...yet I feel like Tabatacize is calling me like a siren at sea! :p

Natty- My new avatar...that was Dylan and Lydia before his music program in December. Of course, since he had to dress up Lydia was begging to dress up too even though she didn't have a program that night. lol She loved that purple dress so much that she kept putting it on randomly and I found I was constantly having to wash it. Rather than let it get ruined, I finally decided to hide it on her. ;) Thank you for the hip thrust compliment! I loved it! :D I think I'm going to stick to 40 lbs for awhile until (or if ever) it starts to feel easier and then maybe go up in weight. At one point I almost saw stars when I did that one ! In a good way of course ;). Say, did you ever get Ellen's Grace and Gusto? If so, did you try it and what did you think?

Jen- Creepy neighbor...shudder. Yeesh. Nothing freaks me out more than gross guys lurking and looking. I mostly always hope I'll be invisible to those sort of creeps. Heavy, dark curtains it is! Maybe some heavy duty blinds as well...;)

Have a great Wednesday everyone!

Happy Wednesday!! Sunshine and warming up here for a few days.

Colleen. Cute avatar. Your kids are adorable. Supercuts is a great low impact circuit workout. It does fly by. The music and exercises fit so well. Tabaticize happens for me next week.

Sarah. Your daughters wrestle? Good for them, bummer they aren't doing it. My tubing is finally starting to loosen a bit.

Natty. Haven't done Xtrain Legs yet. It might be next week on my rotation. Spinning has caused more DOMS than anything else. That discussion on OD did turn to the male trainers, Bob and Devolte, whom are both quite handsome. Yes, 4 pages plus now. One post concerned me regarding sexual harassment.

My workouts will be earlier to avoid my neighbor. When it's dark and cause I'm cheap, he can see me moving from the TV screen and binoculars. Until I get a job or move, I will workout by 4pm-430pm.
Good news. I called for an update on my dream job(s). I'm still in the running for both of them. One is held up due to "budget," but I believe they made a decision not to make a decision because they can't make a decision. Other one, still reviewing. So, I asked if it was bad I am calling to get updates. He told me it shows I'm interested and he gave me his inside number. Things could still go South on both of these then I'll be moving South.
I have a small cold from lack of calories in the recent past and change of weather. Working out and eating are helping out alot. So, does Sudafed.

I wound up doing Tabatacise. :D I just couldn't resist. So far so good with joints and all. I loved it! This will definitely be one of my go to cardio workouts. The only part I didn't care for was Tabata 3, which is supposedly the easiest but I had to modify the most. I'll have to figure out which moves I want to do instead. Anywhere she had jumping jacks and tuck jumps I was easily able to do on the rebounder, but there was one more in Tabata 3 where she is hopping 4 times to the side back and forth, and then she speeds it up. I dont' see my knees liking that one, so I just did jump rope on the rebounder. By that time, I needed a break anyway!

So I'm sitting at home right now with Lydia. As I was getting ready for work, the school called and she has diarhea and a low temp (99.4). :( GermX hand sanitizer is my best friend right now!

Jen
- You are killing it with your workouts! :D I'm so proud of you! That's awesome you are still in the running for those two jobs. Fingers crossed!

Jen - I'm so happy to hear you are still in the running for your "dream" job. I like having no neighbors with the exception of my parents, but you can't see their house anyway. So chalk up another reason for me to like livivng in the country.

Colleen - Poor Lydia. I hope it just doesnt have to run through the rest of you guys now. I have not done Tabatasize yet. But I'm glad it's not on the the books for this week, as the soreness is just beginning to mount for me.

Nat - Good for you on your walk. Our weather here is really warm too. Last night when the hubby and I walked I didn't even wear 2 coats, only one, and just jeans also. I wore my hat as it's was windy where we walk along the Cowlitz River. But ended up taking it off as I walk getting very warm but then got an ear ache from the wind. I really think I should pick up one of those Leslie DVD's for my mom (and me).

As of yesterday I was getting very sore in the front of my shoulder from Monday X-train CBS. It's better today. I also was starting to feel X-Train CLB in my lower butt cheeks (so exciting) by late afternoon. I have been eating super duper clean. I made Jamie eason carrot protein bars. They fill a hackering for something sweet. They arent the best (a little rubbery) but will work. I also made a ton of chicken meatballs, to snack on whenever.

Todays WO was Premix 16 of X-train Hard Strikes. I was so happy to find this out as while I was laying in bed last night trying to remember, hoping it wasnt Bi's and tri's because my body just wasn't ready yet.

Backed out of working out tonight because of cold meds and tired. Hope to double up this week or next.

Hi everyone :)

Yesterday I did a 2 Mile Leslie Walk. I jogged part of it and found myself cramping . Would anyone know why this is so? I rarely have that happen to me.

Today's w/o will be Xtrain Bi's & Tri's + 100RC bi's . Wish me luck!

Marie
YAY Xtrain! Which w/o will you try first?

Jen
I hope you feel better :).
BTW, what's up with that creepy dude possibly looking into your windows? Ikea has cheap dark curtains if by any chance you are interested.
I'm glad to hear you are still in the running's for both positions!

Sarah
I'm gonna admit this, it might possibly be very hard for you to "get into" Leslie the first few times. Being accustomed to advanced Cathe cardio, it might feel awkward and silly to be doing a walking workout. Because I have to workout in the evening, I can't do Cathe cardio or else I will be up and wired all night. It only makes sense that I walk as much as possible during Winter. Your mom will probably love it though! I recommend one with 5 miles, so she can do as little/as much as she wants.
WTG on eating clean and sticking to the rotation :).

Colleen

I wish I still had my rebounder :(. I felt pretty beat up doing the entire w/o with no modifications and all high impact. LOL, my fav round was actually 3 :D...and all the step segments :D. I'm glad to hear your knee's are holding up well with some of the high impact moves!
Sorry to hear about Lydia :(. I'm addicted to hand sanitizer when Bella and I go out in public . It's a nightmare when little kids get sick .

Morning girls!

I'm planning on doing XTrain Bi's and Tri's Burn sets today and one or two of the 100 rep challenges but I'm not sure which ones. I might do the ones on the disc, but I sort of want to do the scarecrow challenge again...I guess we'll see what I do when I get there!

Yesterday, since I was at home and Lydia was curled up on the couch, I decided to do a yoga dvd for some much needed flexibility/stretching. I really need to try and do that once a week. Felt great! I'm going to try to fit it in....but that means I'll have to get that sixth day in my rotation!

Natty- did you get Ellen's G&G? I would definitely have felt beat up with Tabatacise if I didn't have the rebounder and/or didn't modify a few of those moves I knew would be trouble. The three jacks with tuck jump was perfect for the rebounder! The Bi's and Tri's workout seems to be the workout dujour. Many ladies on my other check ins are either doing that one today or already did it yesterday. lol

Marie- YAY! I'm so glad XTrain came for you finally! Are you going to try and mix some of the XTrain cardio with your STS rotation? How's your friend doing with it so far? Is she sticking with it still?

Sarah- Great job on the clean eating! I'm getting better than I was during the holidays, but I'm not doing nearly as well with the eating as I did before the holiday season. I feel like a train derailed and I'm only partially back on the track! During the week it isn't too bad, but the weekends sort of fall apart. We have way too many bags of chips around here from the holiday parties and the last two weekends we had people over for the football games.

Jen- I hope you feel better soon!

I know I already posted today, but I HAD TO come back and say I LOVED Xtrain Burn-Sets Bi's & Tri's + 100RC bi's. Mark was watching Bella, so I was fortunate to be able to do this w/o at 11am. I had extra energy so I added BM2 step cardio only (this felt like a marathon w/o Colleen-Style ;)). I had an awesome workout . No one does weight training like Cathe. NO ONE. Oh and one more thing, I have come to the realization that bi's are undoubtedly my biggest "weak link". I could not even do that challenge with my 15lbs barbell :(. Also, I did not like Marlo's black thick eye liner all around her eye's. She is so pretty and the liner just made her look harsh. Not that it distracted me from doing the challenge, but I just wanted to go over there and start wiping her eye's down. I know, that's bad .

In light of The Biggest Loser new season, I see Jillian has a new workout coming out called Hard Body. You guys know me, I'm a sucker for JM :D. I would personally die to have her as my personal trainer, yelling and all. I guess I'm one of those people that would get motivated by someone brutally pushing me and not being so nice about it. I know, I have serious issues :D.

Colleen
No, I never ended up getting Grace & Gusto :(. TBH, I'm afraid to get hit with duty fee's from any retailer/outlet in the USA. A $15 w/o with tax, shipping, duty, could cost me well over $30 . There is NO WAY in hell I'm paying that much for 1 dvd! It better be laced with Sterling Silver for that $$ :D.

Today I am very sore in my inner thighs. It's a really good thing the workout today was all upper body. I did X-train Bis-tris premix 2 with core. I really liked it. it went by fast. I felt it thoroughly though. I will be having doms tomorrow. I am a little concerned as tomorrow is and 80 minute leg WO. I hope i will be able to give it my all.

Nat - Thanks for your input on the Leslie DVDs. Your WO was a marathon indeed. I can't touch Cathe's weight in biceps.

Colleen- Glad you were able to do a yoga. I feel great after I do them to, its just grabbing yoga off the shelf is the hard part.

Marie- Congrats on X-train Have FUN!

Jen - I'm sorry your feeling under the weather. Sucks just when you get your exercising mojo back then BAM, sickness strikes.

Sarah

Hey all!

Checking in from a hotel. We are staying at a St Paul hotel. We decided to do a little getaway for B's soon-to-be 3 month bday. We weighed him today and he is up to 13lbs.....growing so fast!

I did Low Max today and really liked it. It sure works the legs :) Hoping for some DOMS tomorrow. I also did the core and butt bonuses from B and G.

Yesterday was disc 5 and the 25min step portion from BM2.

Tuesday was DM! What a sweatfest :)

I'm thinking tomorrow will be a rest day.

Colleen That is too sweet about Dylan. He didn't want to wake you guys. What a little man! Awwwww! Poor baby sleep on the floor :( Hope you and DH are not catching anything.

I will definitely work the cardio workouts into STS.

My friend is really loving STS. It's so fun to discuss the workouts with her. She is so impressed with the variety and the amount of push-ups and pull-ups Cathe can do. Of course, who isn't lol!

Jen Your neighbor sounds so creepy. Stay away and get some good curtains.

Fingers crossed about your dream job!

Nastaha I love that you're getting all those walking workouts in The evening. I must admit when I was pregnant and then for the 6 weeks before I could workout again I walked a ton and my legs and butt were the thinnest they had ever been. It's a really good fat burner! I wish I had the motivation to do it more. Maybe in the spring when it gets nicer out.

How fun to have the new babies around. I bet you and Bella are really enjoying them.

Thanks for posting that info on the sit-ups. I dread them but will have to remember that info.

I think the first workout I will try will be Low Impact HIIT. I'm kind of scared of Tabatacise which really makes me want to try that one too.

Sarah WTG to failure on the push-ups. I am always so impressed when Cathe does them all on her toes. Even when I was in my best shape I couldn't do that. She's insanely strong!

Hope you find your tubing but if not you should get Cathe's bands. I ordered them and they are such high quality!

Marie - Did you get your enabling skilles from Colleen? He He (they were already in my cart) Seriously thanks for the recommendation. Would you get the single ones for Medium resistence or the ones that you can change out the bands on? That was the one thing I hadnt made up my mind on yet. I love LM. Boy have you gone through all your new WO already with the exception of X-train? Your kickin' butt and taken names.

I always kind of make a little fun of the people that are concerned with doing every little thing wrong with exercising or messing with a rotation. But I have turned into one of those. I have DOMS still in my inner thighs. So do I continue and do X-train legs today or should I do tomorrow WO that is X-train Low Impact and risk being even more sore tomorrow. I need your thoughts.

Sarah

Afternoon girls!

I have today off since I work tomorrow. As you guys know, when I have a weekday off I usually have the house all to myself but Lydia was complaining about her tummy this morning to Mark, so he insisted she should stay home. I think she's fine (no throwing up like Dylan, diarhea gone, no fever). She's sort of a sly one this girl...she knows how to work daddy!

My arms are super sore today! I totally went to failure doing the bi's and tri's burn sets yesterday. My left arm is weaker than my right, and would inevitably fail before my right arm every time. I decided to stop the reps whenever that happened, even though I could have done more or gone heavier with the right. I don't want to increase the strength difference even more!

So, I've had a weird day with my workouts. I pretty much spent the entire morning working out or between workouts. I've been on the hunt for the holy grail of the Endorphin High, and falling a teeny bit short.

At 9:00 or so I did SuperCuts. I honestly really like that workout and feel it's a great total body, functional fitness routine. However, I can't quite get my heart rate up with that one. I am happy with it when I'm done...but I'm not quite getting that endorphin buzz when I walk away. So, after walking out to the living room, checking on Lydia, and posting a little on VF, I went back and decided to check out the second half of that Paul Katami 4x4x2 workout.

I had to start slowly since my heart rate had come down and need to ramp/warm back up. Since I was only doing about the last 25 minutes, and I wasn't really putting my all into it...I wasn't quite at the Endorphin High again. At this point, I'm feeling a little frustrated...

So then I came back out, made Lydia an early lunch (it was 11:30 by this time) and decided I still needed my high. So I went back and did the express premix of Afterburn (single intervals) which lasted about 32 minutes. That felt good...however I wish I had done everything back to back. That would have been a total Endorphin High! LOL

I guess it's just one of those days.... :p

Sarah- I'd go ahead and do the XTrain legs, but maybe not the whole entire thing. I actually had worse lower body DOMS when I did XTrain Low impact hiit!

Marie- you are totally killing it with the workouts! :D I'm currently working on a girlfriend to get her into Cathe. She posted on facebook today that she did a Les Mills Combat workout and I was like oooohh...have you ever heard of Cathe? Of course, the Beach Body workouts get so much advertising that people tend to know about those, but Cathe is like this total secret! I posted links to Collage and Cathe's site and she is totally psyched to check it out! Whoo hoo! Another one on the hook! lol

okay, I really should be doing something useful today... TTYL!
