Wedding dress

Hi all! My 10 year anniversary is next year. I'm giving myself a year to lose the last 10-15 lbs so that I can fit into a fabulous dress of my dreams. I'd love your thoughts. I'm debating the traditional wedding dress versus the beautiful couture gown but I want something that will photograph nicely.

How exciting, are you renewing your vows?

Yeah. When we first got married it was in San Francisco at the court house all for under $100. Our judge had bright pink high tops and an earing in her nose. We had a plastic arbor and fake flowers hanging off a nail on the wall. We are an interacial couple with 15 years between us and our families (in the begining) were totally against the relationship so we eloped. We just ran off and eloped. 2 beautiful kids and 9 years later we've been talking about renewing our vows. I don't want a big yahoo with a bunch of family. I still have family on my side that are still against my marrage but I do want pictures and a dress to pass on to my daughter. Of course if the dress is still fashionable if and when she wants to get married. :)

I think my favorite is #4, but I like #2 alot too!!

How exciting -- that's a wonderful thing to look forward to a year from now :)

Janie I think you replied to my small wedding thread. I like #4 the best, it's so elegant!

Maybe it would help if we knew what your body type is. This is so much fun!

Congratulations to you on your wonderful milestone! :D

#4 is soooo pretty!
They are all so elegant!

Congratulations!

Our 10th is this year...wish we were doing something for it but with Baby it makes it kinda hard.

You will look FANTASTIC in any of those dresses!!!

Well, darn - I am the oddball, liking #3 the best. For the wedding gowns, I like #1 the best. Like another poster mentioned, it would help to know what you look like. This is exciting - yeah YOU! BTW - how is the biking going for you?

Okay, I'm a big fan of the simple, streamlined silhouette where you'd better have an awesome bod to pull it off, probably because it would have been out of the question for me when I was fat but is now almost within the realm of possibility. So take what I'm saying with a grain of salt, since you know what flatters your body best.

Of the 3 Oscar D. dresses for which you gave links:
-I like the SHAPE of #1 but I'm not a real fan of all over lace (though you may be),
-I love the fabric of #2 but I'm not crazy about structured A-line shapes. Nothing is as gorgeous as ivory silk, though. It's lush, elegant, wonderful to touch AND it photographs great.
-Not at all crazy about #3, even on the tall, skinny model. Too frou-frou (for me...)

Of the 5 attached thumbnails:
-#1,#3 and #5... no. Frou-frou again.
-With #2 the style of the dress is a bit too Bob Mackie (whom I really dug back in the day because sequins are fun... I mean, when do you get to wear them???) but, though I could do without the tulip-style hemline, I love the over-all shape and that wrap is smokin.
-Of all the choices I dig #4 best. Even though it's technically an A-line, the fabric has a flatter drape and the hemline has enough weight to make it a bit more clingy and sexy (I'm all for that!). Not crazy about the exact-match wrap because it's too mother-of-the-bride.

You know what works for you and I have no clue what you look like or what body type you are. But it sounds like you have time. If it were me, I'd keep looking for ivory silk. It really is the most sumptuous stuff. I put my hands on a bolt of the fabric at a fabric store last year and couldn't leave it alone, it was so lovely. One thing: Don't look just for high end designs because incredible designs can be found in the most interesting places. When Suzanne was asking for dress help and one of the choices was a J. Crew below-knee dress I went to their website and found the same dress in a floor-length ivory (silk tricitone). It's called Sophia, it's $295, and it's stunning. It would be very flattering to a wide variety of body types.

What fun! Let us know what you decide.

Definitely the middle one's my fave of the bunch.

I love the second pic on the bottom left. That is a gorgeous gown!!!

The second Oscar dress would be my choice for a traditional gown.

They are all gorgeous dresses. I'm partial to the first thumbnail (tiered dress).

Congratulations on your 10 years! :)
