The women in the P90X workouts

I think it's great that these are average people that completed the program, and not fitness gurus. And of course, you shouldn't judge the program based on how buffed the group is or isn't. I'd be curious as to what they looked like before the X.

I have to be honest here.....I just received my P90X and viewed the first 4 dvd's in the set and I don't see what you see. Now again, I just received mine so I haven't viewed all the workouts.
So far, I would say all the women I've seen have a solid athletic build. All but one I've seen so far, look to be around 18% bodyfat. I think that is a very healthy walking around bodyfat %. I could see ab definition on almost all of them.
Very few fitness competitors who are ripped to shreds do not maintain that shredded look year round.

I think all the women in these workouts definately are strong and muscular. Its just they arent petite women like cathe. they are average size women with muscle developement. they look very strong. I think the blonde didnt do heavy wts on some of the exercises because she maintains such excellent form during all the workouts. she probably could have lifted a little heavier though. I loved her arms! also, the camera makes you look 10pds heavier!!

I often wonder if Cathe goes through a cutting phase before she tapes a new series? Grant it, she is not competition lean but she's pretty darn close. If I had to guess her bodyfat, I would guess it's under 16%.
I'm pretty sure anything over 20% you can't see layers of ab muscles.

I don't have P90X and so I can't really comment on it, but from what you're saying, the women in the workout don't look as cut as Cathe and crew. But they are using real life people and Cathe and her crew are professionals. Maybe Cathe's crew have other jobs, but they do make these workouts with Cathe on a regular basis so have to be considered pros compared to the P90X women, right? They've been working out with Cathe for years and making workouts with her for years. Just my thoughts on the subject.

She (Dreya) is also an acrobat/dancer who does acrobatic moves hanging from a hunk of cloth, which takes lots of upper body strength (I don't know if beachbody still has the clips up, but when P90X was being developed, Tony visited Dreya, and there are clips showing some of her moves.

Kathryn,

I had to take a peek to see the video. It's still there under "The making of P90X".
WOW, that gal is in tremendous shape!!!!! OMG, Tony looks so much better with messy hair!LOL His hair looks fake to me for some reason:)

I think the hair and makeup peeps went a little overboard on Tony! He does look better with a more natural look.

Oh yes, I agree!!!
My husband noticed the makeup right away.

I somewhat agree with you - I do prefer my *instructors* to look uber fit. But the rest of the class participants, who the background exercisers ARE in the X (don't forget, Jai and Lorrayne are both pros - they are NOT "regular" people, only Brenda and Cedie could be classified as non-pros in Cathe's workouts)? I don't care who I'm taking a class with - all I care about is what I'm putting into and getting out of it. We have no idea where these folks started - could be that this IS an amazing transformation over the course of the test group.

And if I need visual motivation other than my own mirror, I check out the BB boards and check out the VERY real before and after pics there.

She's also got a website with amazing video and pics: http://www.dreyaweber.com

I'm somewhat baffled at the ridiculousness of this entire thread. The background exercisers are TEST group people, except for Dreya. That means they are regular schmos who did the program, NOT fitness professionals, NOT fitness competitors who are or aren't in competition shape. Just regular schmos. Who, oh, by the way, can do pull-ups. And "real" push-ups. Lots of them.

We have no idea what their diet is like, which is pretty much the MOST important aspect of looking or not looking cut, by far. So if you are doing the X, but are eating total and utter crap, well, sorry to disappoint, but in the end you may not end up looking as cut as you'd expect. You'll be strong, but visually it may not show. This is the greatest strength building program out there, in my opinion. It's not a magic pill - if you don't watch what you eat, no matter WHAT you do for your workouts, you will only get so far, if you are focusing on "looks" goals rather than performance goals.

As I said in my original post, I was just curious if others noticed that not one of the P90X women looked like Cathe and her group. I've seen some stellar results in pics on the P90X website so I know some women do get ripped and so assumed that at least one test group woman would be ripped and would appear on screen. That was it; I never questioned the workout plan or nutrition itself.

Well, I did this program and followed the diet for 90 days actually pretty much staying with phase one. I think it is a great program. Same as any other workout you have to really focus and put your all into it to get the best results. I did notice that the women were not that cut except for Dreya. Personally I usually prefer a workout that the women inspire me to look like they do. I always figure they had to do this to film it, right? Anyway I am sure diet and weight loads play a big factor in the physiques of these women. And maybe they had more bodyfat before they started. There are a lot of factors to consider. All of them are in decent shape.

Okay, I just checked out Dreya's website and now I'm sitting here with my jaw dropped open. She's just one big muscle, isn't she?

Wow. That's all.

This is the first time I've ever looked at that stuff on the P90X portion of the website. You can see how much the women improved and Maren, holy cow, what amazing results. She can do push-ups all day.

I have to agree with the other folks too, that Tony is adorable with his hair messy.

Sigh find this thread very frustrating very shallow. The appearance is just a nice side effect of the health not the whole focus and who really cares about the background excercies.

I was going to post my p90x pics today but after this thread have decided against it at least here.

I'm most excited I have gone from virtually 0 to 32 boy pushups (even my son was impressed!), I was always a 3 mile runner and haven't done it in years (and now run 4 miles with no stopping), I'm eating so much better and feeling better. That's what is important.

Sure it's nice I lost 5 lbs, and inches and lower body is better than ever but that's not the whole thing.

Robyn-
I agree...... I for one am very saddened that you wont be posting. I completely understand that you dont want jusgements/critiques etc... Thats why I dont post pics and I'm not all that bad!
Anyway... do as I am doing stay over at the All You Wanted To Know about P90x thread...its about the program not the phisical appearances of the team. Congratulations on your success.... I was jumping up and down on week 2 when I advanced to 3 grown up pushups!!!
Now before I get slammed... not everyones post here is judgemental... sometimes people who have a tendency to judge & get off point find a way into every thread just my opinion means nothing to the world at large...;-)

Hey Traci!

Glad you said this because I may be pre-coffee right now but I am not seeing the judgment in people's responses. :) As I said I am prejava and may be missing it!!

In general:

I took Sophie's post to be a general observation of something and then a statement of her personal preferences. No one could come here and think we are down on the women in P90x....there are half a million threads extolling the virtues of the program!

OK...off for coffee. I may regret posting this once I'm fueled up :D
