Sugarless Mommas and babies 3/21-3/27

Susan, great pics of the girls. :) I am going to look into lentils. They are full of fiber, eh?

Jen, missed you today. I'd totally love to go running with ya.....as long as you don't drag me into lifting weights with YOU. lol

Christine, I love your "munchy" type of diet. It totally reflects your personality...full of life and on the go. Great run today. i ran 5 miles with my new running buddy. We're going to try to run weekly. She has run several marathons...so I hope she can inspire me.

Lisa, I'm so proud of you. I was a hardcore Southbeach Dieter...so I know (and appreciate) low-carbs. You will be suprised how much more energy you have with 200 more calories/day. I also like how you put calories by your diet. i should try to do that....and everyone can correct me if I seem out of line.

Confession: I had a MOUNTAIN DEW today. I tried to take a nap, laid down for about 20 minutes and Jadon was poking at me. I then just woke up and made the cookies. The girls have been eating (NURSING) maniacs lately!

Hola, chicas! I don't know why I've been so busy -- couldn't really tell you what I've been doing LOL

You guys are so fast with the chats; it's almost impossible to keep up when you're out of the loop for a few days. Whew!

I love lentils. Lentil soups are one of my favorites. Thanks for the taco recipe. I am trying to get in a few more meatless options every week, at least for me for lunches. I'm out of my "quick meal" options that I like to keep on hand in the fridge so must do some cooking tomorrow and Friday!

Tried Rocco's Cheese and "Potato" soup from his new cookbook (which we discussed a couple weeks ago). It's actually cauliflower and cheese soup. When first made, not even close. But after a couple days, it does thicken up like a potato soup. Pretty good!

We are dogsitting for DH's cousin. 11 nights. On night one, pup ate up a nice big piece of trim in our back room. Bah.

My birthday was on Saturday. Celebrated with a 9 mile walk and by getting a cavity filled (with no painkiller!). DH and I went to PF Chang's, my request as I've never been there and wanted to try it sans kids. It was our first night out without kids in at least a year! DH made chocolate strawberry shortcakes (from scratch) for dessert. Yum!

My oldest stepdaughter is 17. She basically told DH that she would like to live here. He and I haven't really talked about it. DH's exwife is challenging (since this is a public forum, I will not get into specifics LOL). Soooo, this could be interesting. The kids have thrown me under the bus too many times for me to count, but a lot of sad realities (ie: the pressure they've been under to do such badmouthing) are coming to light. But, I'm not looking to borrow trouble so will keep my thoughts to myself until approached seriously.

Still loving STS. I really like the bonus leg work she adds to the leg discs. The stuff on Disc 9? Did those last night -- whew -- my hamstrings are singing to me today!!

Melanie, congrats on hitting your weight goal!! That is awesome! With your commute and your schedule (and your 5 kids!), I don't know how you manage to get in so many workouts. I have 2 kids, and find myself lucky to get in 4 or 5 a week total! My weights are not Bowflex; mine are Ironman. I got them at Costco for $300. I really like them a lot! Like Christine, I find I can lift much heavier than I ever thought. It feels great!

Susan, love the pictures of the girls! Yay on Kara liking the cereal :) Drew is eating a bunch of stuff -- broccoli, cauliflower, sweet potatoes, bananas, blueberries, apples, peaches, avocado, carrots. I just started giving him Yo Baby yogurt last week too. I'll ask the ped about meat when he goes in for his appt on 4/5.

Jen, sounds like you and your MIL had some great bonding time last week! Glad you like the chicken and cheese enchiladas. My stepkids love those, and will eat them no matter what veggies I put in them LOL Glad you had fun at Ulta today. That store is dangerous, isn't it? I missed the initial talk about probiotics...what exactly are you giving James? Is it a liquid supplement? What does it do? I am willing to try anything to get Drew to sleep through the night!

Priscilla, I hope your week at work becomes less hectic. It's so distracting to be rushed and pulled in too many directions. At those times, I feel like I do nothing correctly! I cant' believe Daniel will be 4 months already! Too funny about him being a talker. Drew is too. Who knew boys could be so chatty?!

Lisa, thanks for the chuckle with the cell phone for Reese comment :) I'd rather a phone call or text than the screaming too LOL Good luck with your lowcarb approach. It's so frustrating to find what will work, isn't it? I've finally determined I'm not patient enough to stick with a program long enough to see results.

Christine, when will John undergo his surgery for the port insertion? I admire your ability to appear so calm about the situation. It will serve both boys well to see, learn and adopt your attitude of "it is what is so let's deal with it." How is DH doing this week with his diet? You were kind to let him have 11 hours of sleep. He was an ass to seek anything further after that gift!

I am so proud of myself! I read thru all the posts I've missed. So now, I will finally make some comments. LOL

Christine~ which kbing did you try? or didn't you get to it? I printed the pooping article & will read b4 bedtime. There are two IUDs on the market. One is progesterone only (Mirena) the other is copper (Paraguard). I might be in the market for one. I"m interested to see which on Lisa picks & how she likes it. I've very hormonal-sensitive. Your weeone where size THREE diapers. hee hee. My little ones just got into size ONE. :)

Lisa~ I printed your lentil taco recipe (and Susan's sloppy jo). I hope I can find lentils now. How is your IUD research going?

Susan~ leeks? I've never had them. I've lived a sheltered life. lol What do they taste like? I love your baby food pics. Are you freezing. How long will they last in freezer? How's your menu going? Are you able to stick to it closely?

Precilla~ will you teach Daniel bilingually (spanish & english)? what language is he babbling in? I bet he sounds cute. Mine say, "mmmaaaaammmaa dddaaa ggggooooooooeee". Not sure what language that is. hee hee. How's CharLEAN going? How's nursing going? Are you exclusively nursing?

Allison~ so happy to hear from you. You are doing awesome. Your quite the runner. Have you run 1/2 marathons?

Okay.....now I'm caught up. :) I work tomorrow....so I"m sure I'll be behind again. I have Friday off. :)

Jen-that's great you treated yourself to some new things at Ulta and time at the salon. A pedicure is #1 on my list when I finally put on some sandles.

Allison-happy belated birthday! It sounds like you have quite the situation with DH's ex. Good luck with things w the daughter

Melanie-I'm leaning toward Paraguard since it's hormone-free, but one of the most common side effects is crampier, heavier, longer periods. I think I can handle it if it's temporary though. Mirena has a slightly better prevention rate, but they are both over 99%. It's tempting to just go back on the pill since we have sex so little, but, s Reese proved, it just takes once (ok, I guess I wasn't on the pill then, but still....)

I really messed up last night when the little lisa in horns on my shoulder shoved 2 of DH's cookies in my mouth. I ended up staying at around 1700 cals, but the ice cream and cookies made for a bad day! On a much happier note, Reese slept from 9-5 last night...that's a first!!

bbl

Morning
kara is up with me early so i will try and type.
Melanie-yes I freeze in ice trays then pop out into freezer bags. Im not sure how long it lasts...surely a few months at least. I hitting the grocery this morning to get what I need for the cookies! I am thinking a cookie and milk make a great before bed snack.
Lisa-yayyyy for Reese..
K not happy..hoping she goes down soon and I will do cardio..bb

40 min intervals on tm done. sweatfest I tell ya! I was going to go another 15 mon but K woke up...then after I cooled down..got water she went back to sleep! figures

Melanie do you work today?
Hi Allison-so good to see you! Life gets so busy sometimes doesnt it..but like you I dont know what I do to why I have been busy lol. Gald Andrew is a good eater! What veggies did you start with?? Are you making all his food?
LIsa-2 cookies...no biggie..if you enjoyed them then don't worry about it. What bothers me is when I cheat and I didnt even like what I ate!
Jen-will you be with us today??

Scale was 119.0..thats 2 pounds down. Its amazing what eating in moderation does!
K is really up now. bb

Waves to everyone!!

ok I picked K up bright eyes and shes now alseep on my shoulder.
Lisa-Im making the lentil sloppy jos for lunch..I'll let you know how they are

1-pro pancake 2 clementines
2-pb toast
3-soup lentl sloppy jo
4?
5-?
6 hopefully a lactation cookie and choc milk

Will BBL with more, but had to correct Melanie :)

I am NOT a runner! I hate running! But, I have *walked* marathon distances :) I trained for and did the Susan G Komen 3-Day Walk in 2007 and 2008, 60+ miles in 3 days. Each day averaged about 25 miles of walking. It was awesome. It would been much faster to run those distances, because I only walk about 4-4.5 miles an hour!

Jen I did have that sling but didnt like it so I took it back right after K was born..glad I did!
Im loving having Haley home...I can take a shower etc while she entertains K..I'll miss her next week!
Allison-we would make good walking partners..you go just at my speed!

Hi everyone! John was a terror last night. He is so cranky lately. Not sure what his deal is. But last night was aeful. Once he got to bed, it was better, but grrr.
So, here is some info on john, since many of you have asked. We are waiting for spontaneous joint bleeds to start. Once they begin, we are able to get the port in. We will have a two to three day overnight at the hospital, to check for infection and bleeds, he will get a lot of factor viii at that time. Then I will inject him at home every other day which will increase his levels to about half of normal. That will help us on the bleeds. The spntaneous joint bleeds are the most dangerous adn lead to criplling arthritis by age 10. As well, it will help that I can treat him if he gets a bruise or cut. I need to sew padding into the knees and elbows of all his clothes to protect him when he crawls, etc. There is a long road ahead.
I have to run, will get back later. Got to give john a bottle and then we are off to swim lessons. sorry to cut it short.

Susan-^5 on the weight loss!
Jen-so sorry to hear that John continues to have such difficult nights. Thanks for your update on him as well. My prayers are with you all! John is so lucky to have you as his mommy! Who won the race yesterday--Jimmy or his 'friend'? :)

Here's my day so far:
B-steel cut oatmeal, walnuts, coffee, skim milk (300)
S-TVP w stir fry veggies, orange (250)

3mi run this AM. Abs planned for this PM.
all for now

LOVE lentil sloppy jos! I put it in a toasted ww pita and had with broc soup..YUM!

Christine-what are the signs of a spont bleed? Have you tried to find a support group of other parents with kids with the same condition...for me it would help to know others going through the same thing. John is a lucky chunk for having you as a mom. Oh..Im sure you have mentioned before..but do you know why males usually have hemo and not women?

K is waking up for a power nap and we are headed to do some shopping...

Susan- great questions. Hemophilia is a sex linked recessive trait. Women have two X chromosomes, so even if they have one X chromosome that is a carrier, the other X will be dominant and allow the women to not show signs of hemopholia. WOmen are carriers if there si a genetic history of it. It happens to be a spontaneous mutation in about 30% of cases, which is us, and there is no way to test for it. Most families do not know until abou tage one or two. There is a support group, but it has not been that useful. We are the only pediatric case in teh whole Northern California Chapter. Many women have given me tips on what worked for them, but the horror stories are not what I need at this time. I read all the books and know we are in for quite a haul, but it has been hard when I talk to women that tell me how many times social services was called to their house by nosy neighbors because their son had so much bruising. SO, I am plugging away and hoping for the best. As for spontaneous bleeds, there will be tightness of the skin and a favoring of the joint. THey happen for no reason whatsoever adn can occur in the muscle or joint. Blood contains enzymes that rapidly erode the cartilage in joints, which is what leads to rapid arthritis and many kids who are not on prophylaxis are crippled by it. The prophy will keep john off painkillers over the years and allow him a more normal life as he ages. IT will allow him to fall down here and there, as well. I will infuse him every other day. the factor viii has a half life of 12 hours, so you dose in teh morning, and for 12 hours, he can be almost normal, after that it deteriorates quickly. we can not give it more often, becuase it is so expensive. it will cost at least 6000 a week at this age, as he grows, we dose based on weight, so it will go way up. Here is the rainbow and sunshine part. If he wants to be a runner, or play some low impact sports, I can infuse him before practice or a game. If he wants to play catch in the yard, I could do it too. Travel is hard. We have to travel with a virtual pharmacy. But, we get to go to the front of the security line with all those needles at the airport. A common problem is massive hemmoragic nosebleeds in flight. Hope he is not a nosepicker! Susan- let me know if that is not enough of an explanation. I feel great to give the answers for once, instead of beign the one asking the doctors all the questions!!!!
Lisa- hope you find that shopping bag!
Melanie- I sent you a message on FB, will get to the project this weekend!
Jen- Your eats sounded so yummy yesterday! How is DH and James?
Allison- Wow, you have your hands full. I am not sure a hormonal 17 year old is what you need in the house right now. I hope you figure out what to do with minimal impact to you and DH.
Priscilla- Thought of you today. Charlene killed me. I am combining her with insanity today. Whew.

Here are my eats so far.
2 cups coffee with skim milk
string cheese
apple
strawberries with honey
salad (black beans, red pepper, lettuce, cheese, corn, lowfat dressing, cilantro)
2 bites pumpkin scone (damn good)
BBL, the easter eggs are dry, need to roll them in glitter. Jimmy is waiting patiently...

Christine- Thanks for sharing all of the information about John. You seem to have such a great attitude about it all. I can imagine that it will be hard but you have accepted the reality of it and are ready to move forward and be prepared for all scenarios which is an awesome outlook. We see alot of cases at my job where CPS is called on a family and it turns out the child has a medical condition so if you ever have questions about that end of it, please don't hesistate to ask. Most of our cases like that turn out to be miscommunication between a doctor or a teacher. Fingers crossed that no one ever calls social services on your family. DH is feeling better, he is going to work tonight. James seems to be doing fine and not have caught it. ((Knock on wood)) My stomach is still all jacked up but whatever, I'm functioning.

Susan- I might have to "re-try" lentils cause the one time I had them (and I cooked them myself) I wasn't a fan. But you have convinced me to give them a second chance.

Allison- I'm sorry to hear about the situation with your stepdaughter and the ex wife. Those situations can go either way and for your sake I hope everything works out.

Hi Melanie! Missed you today!

I had two cases back to back but still did pretty good with eats. Lunch was one of those chicken patties that Christine gave me the recipe for with green beans and Ijust had cottage cheese and thinking of eating some grapes. Who knows what dinner will be? I'm craving pizza but will not give in!

Hi girls,

I'll try to type fast, since I'm at work.

What's up with Daniel???? I was up 6 times last night and couldn't get any sleep, I almost lost it. He was moving a lot and crying and just being hard. I finally put him on his bouncing chair and he stay quite sucking his fist while I got ready for work. Went home for lunch and took a 40 minutes nap, when the alar went on I didn't even know what year it was or who I was. I am soooo tired I can't even think. Oh well, enough said

Melanie, I sent you a PM

Christine, I say it one more time, you're such a strong woman, determined and I like your actitude towards the challenges that life has for you. The best thing you can do is to get as much knowlegde as possible and you seem to be just doing that.
Chalean is kicking my behind this month. I'm lifting heavier than I ever thought. I've lost 4 pounds since I started and looking forward to losing the remaining 6. My knees are still bugging me. I need to ask my pedi if is ok to take glucosamine while nursing.

Allison, nice to see you around. WOW ican't imagine walking 25 miles a day. How long did it take you?

Jen, keep it up, no pizza No!

Susan, it is really amazing how cleaning your diet v=can help more than sweating a lond=g cardio workout. Great job

Lisa, did you start working already?

Need to go now, I'll report later

Priscilla- My knees are iffy too. I took glucosamine all through my pregnancy at my doctors okay, should be okay while nursing, but good to check! Thank you gain for the kind words. Some days my glass is not half full, but I try!
For the last week, John has been like Daniel, cat naps and sucking his fist. We got the miracle blanket and it has helped, but like you, my eyes are burning!!!!
Off to put Jimmy down for a nap, JOhn is asleep in the Bjorn on my chest, we just got back from a walk while Jimmy biked. I need to mop, so he needs to get off me! Hope he stays aslee, but know that is not going to happen!!!!!

Jen- Me too on the pissa! I biught the whole wheat dough at trader joes and some turkey sausage. I think I will make some. YOu and I PMS at the same time! Too funny!

Lisa- Forgot to tell you, Easter Bunny and Jimmy tied, and Jimmy said that they should celebrate with Jelly Beans. That kid should be in sales.

Christine thanks so much for the info. Im sure you have read anything you can get your hands on about it. I admire your attitude so much! You def have a load to live with...but youre a mom and a mom will do anything it takes! I hope you got your mopping done. K is taking her 3rd catnap of the day. Its about 5..so she might be up late ..who knows. For you black been ques..do you use any seasonings in the black beans??
Jen-good going ont he eats! Lentils are yum. You might want to try them in soup first. I am on a lentil kick that is for sure...tmi..but lentils keep me "moving" too!
Priciall-sorry you are so tried..been there more times that I want to remember! Daniel might be going thru a growth spurt..hang in there! Hope he sleeps better tonight!

I searched this town high and low and finally found brewers yeast. GNC was out and called a health store for me and they had it. So I'll be making cookies tomorrow
