STS STS 3.5 Mo.-Is Anyone Else Doing This?

fej327: Thanks so much for the encouraging words! You have given me an idea. I think I will start to try doing at least 15 minutes on the days I should do cardio and start there. That way I can build up. I have such an all or nothing attitude. I need to get over that. I know I will not get any in this week as I have so much going on, but next week I will. I will let you know how it goes! Thanks again!
How is everyone else doing?

Yes you need to give yourself more credit and hang in. You are doing STS! I used to have the same all or nothing attitude too. You should be proud that you are doing something. Whether it's for 10 minutes or an hour. You are moving and pushing yourself. Do what you can and the rest will fall into place. We are all here to help you!

Still struggling with this cold and not at 100% yet. In the morning I'll be doing disc 12 legs. I prefer legs in the middle of the week then will do disc 11 back and tris on saturday. This works best for me. Is anyone else doing the discs out of sequence?

Have a great night!

Is anyone else doing the discs out of sequence?

I am! I like doing legs in the middle as well. I looked ahead and legs are in the middle for the rest of the program. Not sure why the change?
Thanks for your kinds words as well! It is so nice to have this forum to come and find people working on similar goals from which to find encouragement.
I went to the store the other day and planned on getting 20lb weights and they only had one! I have had my eye on these for awhile and this has been the case a few times so I bought the one and will buy another one the next time. I will be ready to bump up soon! My husband and I painted my workout room yesterday. We bought our house last year and it was a really dark hunter green. It was depressing to work out in. Now it is a nice cheery and energizing yellow! I love it! We have to put the finishing touches on it tomorrow. I am excited to move my things back in and work out in it for the first time.
On a side note, I am currently working on finishing my BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) and I just realized that I have three weeks off classes! I thought I had one. Gave me a little pep in my step! I graduate in December. Looking forward to it!

Yes I am doing legs on Sundays - I have that day off so I can go at it hard. I do the csb dsc on Monday and back and tri Tuesday because that's a lighter work day. Then I do a lighter leg w/o on Wednesday.

Lab nick feel better! It's hard when your fighting off a cold

Rlw- glad you have a cheery color! It does help and way to go with your schooling. 3 weeks off woo hoo - good for you.

Jengollf where are you? I want it hear how your forearms are holding up - mine are sore and I don't go as heavy as you lol

Off to do gs chest shoulder tri - I have to drop to my knees for those push ups but I get it done!

Have a great day everyone :)

Starting week 4 and loving it. Been sick the past couple of days with a nasty sore throat and cold but feeling better today. Was able to bump out Pyramid Hiit at lunch and plan to do disc 10 of STS when I get home from work. Nothing like diving right back in! Was not able to get heavier weights as I had hoped to this weekend. Thinking after being sick the weights I have will be fine. I'll pick them up during my recovery week.

Have a great night!

Are you able to do DVDs at work?

Hello! I'm hanging in there, too. STS is super tough tho. Today I finish my second week of the week #2 disks (4, 5 & 6)--so next week I move on to week 5 for me and disks 7, 8 and 9. I'm a little nervous! I am glad I did the 1RM but I won't lie--I am lifting heavier than ever for me and it's only meso 1! I did drop to 40 pound dumbbells this week for legs. If the workout cards are going to keep jacking my weights up, I have to have somewhere to go! And my dumbbells only go to 50 pounds. And then there is the shoulder issue. It was better using 40 pound dumbbells as opposed to 45 pound dumbbells. The squats themselves felt just as hard, but it wasn't so hard on my shoulders--but I won't lie, it was still pulling my arms down pretty hard!

BTW--I really like doing the 5.5 month rotation and repeating each workout. I feel like I can not only tweak it the second time I do it, but I am actually seeing immediate improvements. For example, last week when I did Disk #4 Chest, Shoulders and Biceps, I started out strong with push ups. I did all on my toes until I got to that last set of 21s. My chest/arms/shoulders were so burned out I did the last set on my knees (actually, I dropped to my knees halfway through the second to last set of push ups--so even b4 the 21s). This week? I did them all on my toes including the final set of 21s. I'm not going to lie, I was grunting and pushing them out--but I was on my toes for all 21.

I do the disks out of order, too. I do Chest, Shoulders and Biceps on Monday, Legs on Wed. and Back and Triceps on Thursday. I do this for 2 reasons. I feel like the upper body workouts are hitting the ancillary muscles pretty hard so I like to have more than one day between the upper body workouts. I also want to hit each muscle group more than once a week so I do a total body workout on Saturdays--so I'm trying to get a minimum of 48 hours rest between muscle groups.

I'm actually having a lot of fun with the extra workouts. I love Xtrain, don't get me wrong, but I like a lot of variety and I am getting it with STS. Not only is STS itself always changing, but I can do any cardio workout I want and any total body workout I want on Saturdays. So I am really mixing it up and not repeating anything in a month (except the STS workouts of course).

I agree with the others--if you're having a hard time with cardio, do a little at a time. I actually love them both, and have this weird need for my perception of "balance." When I am doing split series workouts, I don't like to do just strength, even though I love strength workouts. (this doesn't bother me at all when I do total body strength workouts). So on my strength days when I get home from work I do one of Cathe's many cardio premixes to get a short cardio session in. On my cardio days I do the full cardio workouts, but for some odd reason it always bothers me to do split series strength workouts w/out any cardio the same day.

Jen: That is awesome about the push-ups! That is one of the reasons I like repeating the weeks as well.

Hey everyone....I was invited to join in the STS party(sorry I didn't write down who specifically invited me)!! I'm a bit behind most of you in that this is my first week. I think I'm going to do a 5 month rotation based on comments that I've read here. When I was going to originally start STS back last July that's what I was going to do, so I don't see any reason to not do that now. Besides it seems like you guys are having really good results with repeating the weeks!!

So far I've done D1 and D2. I have D3 scheduled tomorrow!! I love the workouts and they are very challenging!! When I'm doing endurance workouts I typically have to lower things a touch just to make sure I can do all reps of everything. I've done that again and I was successfully at hitting what I think is the right starting point. They were all difficult, but not undoable. And I feel as though I will be ready for the increase when it's time :)

Just a little bit about me. My name is Toni. I just turned 41. I've been doing Cathe for just over a year(LOVE HER). My specific goals are to get rid of all the fat around my knee(hate hate hate it!!) and the flab off my belly. All that while not completely loosing my booty ;) I've adjusted my diet to help with the fat loose and I'm hoping STS will help with the booty. I'm going to be adding an extra glute workout 1 or 2 times a week to really shape the back side. So far it seems to be working :D

I look forward to reading all your updates :D

Jen good point about tweaking the workout the second time I really like that idea. I think I'm going to repeat week 3 and 4 and then do recovery because I will be in Florida with me son. You are amazing for doing those push-ups way to power through!

Toni - glad your here! Welcome - I have a flat butt and I've really been working on building it up over the last few months. The 100 hip thrust challenge from xtrain and buts and guts really leaned and lifted for me.

Bbl!

Hi Toni! Glad to see you here!!
Fej327: Florida sounds like fun!!! That will be a perfect time to get in a rest week.

Welcome Toni!

When I read your post I felt for you. My issue was my legs especially my knees. I had fat knees and would never wear shorts. Notice I said I HAD. I started using heavier weights over a year and 1/2 ago. Doing this plus Hiit and plyo workouts completely slimmed my legs/knees to the point where I have no problem wearing shorts at all and actually now like my toned legs! 90 day Xtrain really helped too. Took a lot of discipline but it can be done.

Good to know everyone seems to be doing the STS disc out of sequence too! Did disc 12 legs this morning

Rlw3...yes on the dvd at work. We have a large conference room with a huge screen that some of the girls and I have started to workout out in at lunch time when we can. We try and keep the workouts to about 30 mins. We have a shower too which certainly helps!!!!!

Jengollf....awesome job on the pushups!

Have a great night!

TGIF ladies! Tonight I will have my cheat meal of chicken wrap and fries and a brownie! That's what I've been craving this week and Friday is cheat meal so can't wait! Today was supercuts and stretching plus gs tri's. Gotta find a cardio for tomm. What are your plans for the weekend? We are going to have beautiful weather tomm so I'll try and fit in a walk outside and enjoy it. Be strong and enjoy your weekend. Make sure and do something nice for yourselves !!

Rlw- I hope you have great energy and get a w/o in
Jengollf - keep being a motivation - I didn't drop to my knees during pushups thinking of you grinding it out - so I did too!
Labnick - sending you helping vibes for that cold to be gone
Toni - I know you kicked butt on d3 - way to go !

I will be repeating week 3 of sts this week before Florida. 1 week till I move my son out of the dorms and back home -can't wait. I used to take him to the gym with me and he has seen cathe videos for years - he stayed working out and didn't gain the freshman 15 but lost 10. He's even texted me from the gym at 6 before class. Ok enough proud mom bragging - sorry just missing him :)
Have a fabulous weekend ladies

1RM confusion

So, I print out my new workout cards for workouts 7, 8 & 9 (for next week) and it makes NO SENSE! Workouts 4, 5 & 6 were 65% of 1RM. This week is also 65% of 1RM. So why did the weight for my barbell rows jump 30 pounds??!!?? THIRTY POUNDS! I was struggling to do every rep with 75 pounds on my barbell--but now I have to do 105???? And I'm still at 65%? How is this possible?

Anyone seeing inconsistencies like this? I'm not sure what to do now. If I am still at 65% shouldn't I stay with 75 pounds? Or do I increase it anyway (NOT to 105, btw--not possible! I did do 21 reps with 75 pounds, but it was very tough and I'm pretty sure my form was suffering by rep 20 and 21).

fej327--enjoy your treat! I am in the mood for something tonight, but we have breakfast out with the parents tomorrow, so I'm saving it for them. And props for staying on your toes for all the push ups!

Toni--welcome to the STS party! I've also just went over a year of using Cathe workouts--I discovered her in April 2012 and I have become obsessed! Her workouts are the only ones I do now!

I haven't looked ahead because I'm repeating but now you've got my radar up! I'll look ahead in the morning - 105? I can't imagine - I already pause an extra 20 seconds because I'm struggling - I like to be challenged but I don't want to be so sore I can't move! Eek stay tuned!

Yes it jumps but still says 65%. For me I will stay at the lower weight, my original 65%, because I agree with you on form. I want to stay with the best form possible. I do have 1 lb wrist weights so I might add those here and there but I'll see how that goes. I'm thinking about dropping into the gym and trying the heaver with a friend spotting and watching my form in the mirrors. But yeah, I'm confused too, maybe a computer glitch? Hmmm unsure :-/

I did not do the 1rm test. I know Cathe recommends it for the best results but I just never found the time. I am good about writing down what I use and print out my workout out card beforehand and know when I should increase. I am very disciplined and always will push myself so I am not worried about going to light. I am very happy with the results I am receiving. This seems to work well for me.

Finished up meso 1 yesterday and looking forward to recovery week. Planning on pulling out some old Cathe DVD's that I have not done in a while. I have a heavy bag that I LOVE so I will be hitting this too! :)

Feeling so much better this weekend. I have finally stopped coughing.

Have a great day!

Lori

Raining here today ladies! I was so unmotivated but I took my own advice and told myself just do 15-20 min. So I grinded out legs. I needed to do cardio too since Saturday ill be picking my son up from us dorm. I waited a couple of hours finally had some caffeine and did AOLI and core 1. Now I'm couching it for the rest of the night. This week is supposed to be sunny so hopefully I'll get my groove back.

Rlw- I swear I would have skipped cardio but I though uh oh better take my own advice! Lol
Jen - what'd you decide on the heavier weights? How many cardio sessions are you doing? I shooting for 6 (but only 30-35 min on weight days)
Lori - glad your feeling better! If your seeing results and are happy then I say your doing everything right :). Making any program work for you and fit into your life is the smart - then you'll stick to it.
Toni - I'm with labnick -I had cellulite and HIIT and plyo legs really made a difference. When I was working on my legs I also did buts and guts once a week. Are you in week 2? I hope your loving it.

Have to still vacuum and mop - alarm is set for 430 to get my w/o in before work.

I hope everyone's weekend was great!

I was freaking out at first, but then I just went to the STS handbook and read about workouts 7, 8 & 9. She states right in the handbook that we are staying at 65% of our 1RM for those workouts, so our weights should not increase. Obviously a glitch in the software. So I am keeping them where they were last week. And if the workout cards continue to be messed up (for future workouts), I know what my 1RM is--not too hard to figure the percentage using a calculator. It was only 1 exercise that was reading a crazy weight anyway. Everything else is correct.

I did workout 7 this morning btw. OMG. The dropset pushups were so much easier at the beginning of the workout. Now she moved them to the end. I did stay on my toes for all of them, but I wasn't certain that was going to happen! I kept thinking I was going to have to drop to my knees at some point but I never did.

I do cardio 6 days a week. Like you, I just do 30 minutes on strength days and hour long workouts on non-strength days.

Hey everybody!! Last Friday was D3 Legs. I'm nursing a strained hip flexor so I was careful to add a little extra rest. I also dropped the weights totally half way through the last set of squats. I didn't want to risk any additional injury. I tell you want that workout was exhausting  And holding the weights gave me a really good back workout also!! I was still feeling it a couple days later.

Today was a repeat of D2 Back and Bi(I'm doing things out of order). I'm really glad I decided to do the 5 month rotation. I felt much more confident in the workout today and I feel comfortable going up in weights next week. I wasn't feeling that way last week!!

I'm not lifting nearly the weight you gals are. My heaviest dumbbell is 20#. I can use that for chest press, chest flys, and one arm rows. I'm not going that heavy with the chest work because it's an endurance workout and I don't think I could get 15 reps + the rest of the routine with that weight

I don't mind my lower weights. I'm comfortable going slow and steady. And I'd really like to get my pushups up. I'm doing them on my knees, but I'd like to get to a place where I can do a set here or there on my toes. But mostly I want to make sure I do ALL the reps no matter how I do them.

You guys are going all out with the cardio :) I'm only doing 3 one hour sessions a week. That's all I can do without frying my legs. I seem to get into a situation where I over work them easily

Have a great day everyone and keep up the good work!!

I did disc 7 too! And after gs chest and tri on Saturday I had to pause the DVD for those drop sets! I forget sometimes and work body parts too close. I'm so excited my husband ordered me a fitbit :) I love electronic gadgets and tracking my food and workouts. It even syncs with MFP. I know it's going to tell me to sleep more :-/. - I'm just so type A I always think I could be doing something better than sleeping.

Sounds like we're in the same cardio path. I can't wait for Meso 2. I'll even give in and sleep more if I can score more lean muscle :).

Have a great Monday everyone!!!

Ha all!

I feel I always need to do some cardio even on a weight day. I usually try to run 2 to 2 1/2 miles on my TM at least 3 times a week on days I have a weight workout scheduled. I set my alarm 4:30AM to do this. Otherwise by the time I get home I am usually to tired to run. Today the girls in the office are planning to do a Leslie Sansone walk DVD. I usually will have 2lb hand weights and ankle weights when I join in. Adds some intensity and fun to do at lunch. It certainly does not get my heart pumping like Tabatacise but is a good little workout nonetheless!

I wish I could do all the pushups on my toes! I start off with good intentions then always need to move to the knees. I do feel that I seem to get a few more on my toes each time so perhaps there is hope for me even with the drop sets. (It is painful for me just to type it).

fej327...I feel the same way about Meso 2. really looking forward to it. it is killing me to have a recovery week!!!!

Have a great day!
