STS first time!

OMG I LOVED March 101!!! It is a toughie but a goodie! I just love what Sandra does with gliders! :D Just remember to warm up a bit before you start since the 101's don't include a warm up or cool down. Have fun! ;)

Thanks. I am not going to do a workout tonight. My stomach really hurts tonight from my digestive issues. I had some dairy yesterday and some wheat and it really messed up my stomach today. Ugh.

My biggest dilemma is do I do disk 7 in the am or do a do a HC. Also what HC should I start with?

Morning ladies!

ColleenD- yes I would be careful about overworking chest and shoulders with HC. This even applies to doing a lot of yoga with HC because of all the chaturangas and up dogs. Soooo, you may want to skip those exercises in STS at least until you see how you do with the HC's (i.e. how sore you get it...maybe you are pretty strong in that area and could take it). As far as which one to start with, do you have a body bar for volume 1? That is probably the (relatively) easiest of the bunch so it's good to start with that one. I didn't have a body bar at first though, and tried to sub some exercises with the bar part of my barbell and had to use dumbells for other parts. It sort of worked but there was a lot of figuring out the equipment and positioning the first few times. It does work better with a body bar. I got a nice padded 8lb bar from Walmart.com. The padding on it is easier on the hands then the iron hard barbell rod!

Today after I get the kids going I'm going to try September Hardcore! :D

Good Morning!

I did volume 1 this morning. I really liked it. I wasn’t sure at first what my feelings were going to be on the workouts. But I think I'm more scared now that you said volume 1 is the easiest.:eek:

I do have a body bar. It's an 8 pound one that is padded. I've had it for years and don't use it very often, so I'm glad I was able to use it. I also used lifting gloves. Wow, that was a good workout. It seems to go by really fast, even with me stopping and watching and then rewinding. Amazing how you can feel the core work while you are doing the workouts. I can’t wait to see how I feel tomorrow morning. She even gets you on the lower body moves. I’m impressed.

Thanks again Colleen and Carolyn for enabling me on these workouts. :):) I can’t wait till Thursday. Hmmm, I wonder if I should do it how she suggest on her website, to one volume twice in a week then do boot camp…

Carolyn, I like your idea of using the mini mat that Cathe has for the step. I don't have one, but I might consider ordering one. It seems like it would be less clunky than my yoga mat.

Colleen, do you have her fuel + fitness book? I'd be curious on your thoughts on the nutritional side.

Have a great Tuesday.

Good Morning ladies!!!

Last night I did 1 hour on the elliptical.

Today I woke up did 45 minutes of running, after work I am meeting a lady I use to teach aerobics to. We are going to walk around the lake. Then go home and do CSS.

Sounds like everyone is jumping on wagon with HC....Good luck, they are tough but worth it!!! Nothing comes for free!

Hope everyone has a lovely day.....Chat later! :)

Off to do some errands soon but wanted to mention my DOMS. I actually have some to speak of! Yay! Glutes and core!

I'm going to try to do AB more often. I've been avoiding it because of difficulty factor (and hot & humid summer), but now I'll think HC all the way!

Carolyn and Marie, good luck with your respective doc appts!

ColleenD, how utterly exciting for you to be starting HC!:D. Don't you love it when unused equipment sees the light of day? It's like discovering a recipe just when the ingredients you already have in the fridge need to be used.

Omg, I can't wait to start seeing tidbits about XTrain!!!

Be back later to reply to other posts. Can't see them with this device.

Good Morning ladies. It is pouring rain all day today. It is so dark and gloomy. This house is filthy so I guess I will be cleaning. Today I did shoulders. The Beast is big on shoulders. I am wanting to try to go back to doing cardio one day and weights the next. I have really gotten away from cardio. Good Luck to all the ladies doing HC. One day maybe I will get on the wagon also.

Carolyn Good luck at the Dr. today. i can't wait to hear what the problem is.

Marie I love your Avatar. I can't wait to hear about your Dr. appt also. I am hoping for thinning.

Shannelle and Becky I am happy you are enjoying STS. That is my all time favorite workout. I have gotten such nice arms from doing that. My husband is always saying" Look at your arms".

Missy What is the date of your next 5k? It seems like it should be soon.

Betty Congrats on the Doms. I know you are happy. :D

Jean

Good luck at the doctors ladies....

Jean--- I have a 5K---- Oct 13 and Oct 27 :p Can't wait....So excited!!!!

Betty---I am waiting impatiently on the xtrain info and pics too!

Good workout today! September Hardcore, like the October one, really got my glutes on fire! I sort of thought the volumes leg/glute work wasn't too bad (although I still definitely felt it!) considering I work my lower body so much with Cathe. I remember saying something to that effect on my HC check in and then when I started doing these Hardcore ones I was like "whoops! Did I say Sandra's leg work was easy? My bad!" lol :p

I'm looking forward to doing Circuit Blast tomorrow. Do you guys have that one? I haven't done it in so long! It kept staring at me on the shelf saying "pick me! pick me!"

Shannelle- I meant to comment on the upright row thing earlier. I have also read in several places that it's not a good shoulder exercise to do due to the risk of nerve impingement. I've never had a problem doing it...but honestly since I keep seeing it popping up in different articles I've decided to omit it whenever I see it come up in a workout. If the upright row comes up, I'll usually substitute with some other shoulder move depending on what I feel like doing....whether that's lateral raises, rear delt flies or shoulder presses. I figure, why take the chance, right?

Carolyn- I'm so stoked you loved Volume 3! Yay! I'm starting to miss the volumes now since I've been doing the club dvds so much. I decided I need to do Bootcamp on Friday and then I want to do Volume 2 on Sunday. :D I love how the variety and number of my workouts keeps me plowing ahead. I get so excited about doing new ones I get, and then I start to miss my old ones I haven't done in awhile...I feel like it gives me great forward momentum! No time to stop and think, whew! I feel tired! lol
Good luck with the doctor today!!!!

Betty- Yay for AB DOMS! That dragging plank is a great intro to Sandra's work! I remember thinking the first time I did the harder version Carolyn described in HC how glad I was that I had an introduction to these types of moves in AB. ;) Jeez, there's another workout I'm starting to miss! Gotta find room for AB sometime soon here...

Missy- those 5K's are coming up quick! Good luck with those runs! We'll be cheering you on from a distance!

Marie- Good luck with your doctor's appointment, too. Like Jean said, I'm crossing my fingers for some progress on the thinning/dilation front! Just wait until the baby "drops". Has anyone ever told you about that? It feels like the baby is practically between your legs when you walk!

Jean- have fun with cardio today! :) Did you ever get KCM's two newest for cardio? What did you think of those?

Okay, better motor. TTYL!

Carolyn, too bad about the melatonin! I was hoping I'd find something that'd help you. It's baffling. It's certainly not that you're too sedentary! It's not caffeine late in the day, right? Just a blasted hormonal thing? Say, could you possibly be getting too much exercise??...... Don't be mad! I was just sayin'!

Regarding papayas, I've just recently begun buying singles at my local supermkt (expensive at $3 per!). I get the Hawaiian ones, and to ripen, put them in a sunny window, and they turn yellow quite fast. Rotate the papaya in the sunny or bright area until the green is gone. It'd take 3-4 days. As soon as the fruit is yellow all around, it's ripe. (I'm a novice at this, but this is what I learned from my relatives in Canada. I literally sunned one on a deck for an entire day so that I could eat it before I left!) Incidentally, I've found the Caribbean papayas (which are larger and longer) to be bland; people use it to make soup. Anyone like persimmons? It's almost that time! I love the pointy soft ones!

You gals with the HCs are totally enabling the rest of us with the scintillating descriptions of Sandra's workouts.:D Since we are gluttons for DOMS, we're one foot away from getting some! Cut it out!:D Those one-arm dragging planks sound killer!

ColleenK, what do you call the type of Cathe's latest similar workouts that have cardio and weights in it? Circuits? I mean TTM, CF, AB, etc.

I've not heard of the upright rows' possibility of injury, but now that I think about it, whenever I do them, they don't feel like they do anything for me anyway. Just did some of them in AB. I'll try to remember to sub.

Jean, my next Fifty Shades is in! I'll get it later in the week. I love the sculpted look of toned arms! High five to you and your arms!:)

Missy, I echo ColleenK--we'll be rooting for you in your 5Ks! Way to go, girl! 90s the other day?? That's Georgia for you, I suppose. We're eeking out 60s this week, but maybe 50s next week.

Carolyn- I'm so sorry! Wow, that's pretty serious! I hope the surgery goes smoothly for you. Oh man, what a bummer! :( Definitely get the okay from your doc about any activity, though. I bet most of Sandra's stuff would be okay, and lifting weights too. Is it okay to do low impact? I'm so sad for you!

Oh Carolyn, (((hugs)))! Don't worry. It'll work out. There are many options for no cardio or low impact exercises. You will still get your workouts in somehow. We (and your docs;)) will all figure something out.

hi everyone!

carolyn, so sorry to hear about your knee! but hang in there, and know that this is just a temporary situation. you will come through surgery with flying colors! :)

missy, good luck on your 5Ks!! let us know how they go...

thanks for everyone's input on the upright rows. i might start subbing other moves in for them as well....

i did disc 8 today...back and triceps. good workout. followed up with part of core max #2. yesterday, i did a treadmill hiit workout with hills and running. i ran all the time in med school, but haven't kept it up, so i'm gradually incorporating it back into my cardio routine. have to build my endurance back up though. ;-)

as a side note, i have got to learn to tame my sweet tooth! no one told me that even as a vegan, i'd still be able to make such awesome desserts! :) i eat pretty hardcore clean for most of the day, but it's not uncommon for me to come home and whip up a batch of cookies or something...anyone else with a serious sweet tooth? or tips for controlling it? ;-)

oooh, thanks to the person who posted the tips on papayas...i'll have to remember to get the hawaiian ones next time. the caribbean ones that i've bought in the past left much to be desired...and i love persimmons too!

ok, going to look for halloween costumes for the 4 year old...he LOVES star wars so i'm sure we'll be some interestingly named character this year.

looks like the rain is letting up for us now...yay!!
take care everyone!

Carolyn---I am sending Hugs!!! I am sorry about your knee...I am sure you will fine. Just listen to the doctor about exercise post surgery! You do not want to do something to mess it up!!! We are here for you!!! :)

Carolyn, I am so so sorry about your knee. Please don't stress out about the surgery. The time will go by so fast. I had to have a hernia surgery about 2.5 years ago. I could not workout or even lift my son for 6 weeks. It was hard but the time went by fast. When I was able to workout again I had to start out slow and work my back. In the end I needed the time for my body to heel and the time flew by and I'm now better for it. 5 weeks is not that long. You'll hopefully still be able to do some workouts while you knees are heeling and once you're heeled you'll be back to it in no time. Now I never look back and think about those 6 weeks and not being able to workout.

Hang in there and moan all you want. :) We will all be here for you.

Carolyn---You can moan and groan to us all you want or need to. We are here for you. Nobody understands like we do with not being able to exercise normally! ;)

Shannelle, I have a sweet tooth, and a muffin top to go with it:confused:! Tis that time of year when turning colder and less daylight make it kick in like mad, plus all the upcoming holidays!

Incidentally, I just borrowed three Moskowitz vegan cookbooks. I made the curry laksa tonight. Have you tried it? It was delicious!

I don't have a problem going vegan when it comes to non-dessert dishes. I would also miss bacon and eggs very much:confused:.

You're a surgeon, right? It occurred to me one day--when you have major arm DOMS from Cathe, does it make your arms shake like limp noodles and affect your surgeon arms/hands?

Carolyn, do keep sharing with us to get it off your chest. We don't consider it moaning and groaning at all. We are here for you! If it's any consolation, my DH would say the same things as yours!

just a quick post to tell you the bad news.
I have a small tear in the meniscus!!!!! There is a small cyst that has formed near the injury. There is a larger cyst that is behind my knee. Hence the behind the knee pain.
I have been referred to another dr who will do the surgery.:(:(:(
that appt is on Oct 15th. He will discuss my options. Surgery itself is fast. Recovery is about 5 wks.
what will I do for that long without cardio???????????????????????????? I am hoping this is where Sandra will help.
I am soooooooooooooooooooo sad.:(

Oh no Carolyn! I'm so sorry! Injuries are such a bummer especially for those of us that are addicted to the highs of exercise! Fingers crossed for a quick recovery!

Hey all-

My appt went well but still no dilation or effacement. I'm not concerned though. Dr said that things can progress very quickly and other times people can walk around dilated for weeks with no progression. Yesterday I swear I felt hiccups up top and mentioned that to my dr. She couldn't tell his position so we did a quick ultrasound to verify he is not breech. He's good to go....head down and face down. I have enough fluid too. Best of all I got a picture of his cute little face. He is adorable. I think he looks like Tony. I would post it but I can't get a good picture of it so you will all have to wait til he is here in person. Oh they also verified sex and he is indeed a boy :)

ColleenK- I have heard that once the baby drops it's hard to walk. Still don't have that yet :/ My friend at work swears she walks bow legged lol!

Chat with ya all tomorrow!
