STS first time!

Missy, I am glad you went too. I hope you are feeling better. Congrats to Tim. How exciting!!!

Carolyn, BB is not your typical barre workout. Don't get me wrong a lot of her lower body is barre focused but I am amazed by some of the DOMS I have been getting with using NO weight for lower body workouts. She knows how to hit the muscles. In actually seeing the definition in my arms that I have never seem before. You know if you flex you arm back like you are doing a kickback I can actually see the double line were the triceps and bicep meet. Does that makes sense?? Oh one other thing that I've been benefiting from with BB. I have weak arches and with the LB workouts going on your toes it's been strengthening the tendon.

Betty, sorry your stew turned out too spicy. Carolyn, my food never exactly tastes the same twice. I rarely follow recipes, unless I am baking.

Good evening....i feel a little better...hopefully it continues to get better.....

Carolyn- your husband sounds like mine....you push yourself to hard...your body needs to rest!!! Lol

Off to bed....i am exhausted!!!

Good morning! Up amd dragging my ass! But I am walking slowly on the treadmill....trying to not mess up what was done yesterday....not completely better...but some. My head and neck dont hurt....so its a start!

Hope everyone has a nice thursday!

Good morning!

I did Cardio Leg Blast yesterday and Hard Strikes and Core #1 this morning. That is alot of impact for me.

Not much from this storm yet here, I guess it will pick up later. I am supposed to meet my friends from my old job tonight, will have to keep an eye on the weather.

Missy, sorry to read about how down you have been feeling. Sounds like Tim understands and is really good for you. And I am glad it went well with the chiro, it sounds like you need to return to get everything covered.

Betty, hope everyone enjoyed your stew. Was it the breaking out in a sweat kind of spicy? And I did see your other post about the Naviance survey. DD did fill out the survey but was really into a marketing class she was taking at the time so I think that swayed her results. She is really strong in math and science but does not want to be a dr., I can see her more as a scientist type. It seems like she can do anything she wants, she just has to figure it out. SATs this weekend so I am giving her a break from college discussions.

Carolyn, it sounds like you never stop pushing yourself. Could you possibly take a week or 2 and just do a combination of yoga and walking? Give your parts a chance to recover.

Have a great day, stay safe in the storm!

Okay....i walked slowly for 30 minutes.....easing back into my cardio.....i feel like either an old lady or a fat one.....walking so slowly on the treadmill. But i know its for the best!

Hope everyones aches are easing up!!! Its the cold weather that makes it worse....or so I blame it on the cold temps!

Off to work I go!

Marie, I hope B is feeling better. I remember doing that suctioning, the kids hated it but it was the only way to get the gunk out.

Mary-- we were posting at the same time.....awesome workout this morning! I will followup with chiro for sure....i think another adjustment will help....

Morning Girls,

So tired and run down today. Took a rest day. It's a double edge sword - working out gets me going in the am, but I'm just physically spent. The last few weeks have been really stressful at work due a project I'm working on, so I think the stress is catching up with me. Hopefully tomorrow ill feel better after resting today.

Missy, glad you're taking it easy today.

Carolyn, I think she has only one lb workout. It's called signature series volume 3 lower body Extreme muscle elongation. Maybe give TB a try to see if you like her methodology/style. I was never a fan if barre workouts until my knee started bothering me. I started with cathe TB and got a few other ones researched like crazy and liked Leah's the best. Everyone is different though.

Mary, great job on your workouts. Good luck to dd on her SATS

Carolyn we were posting at the same time. Maybe just take a few days off or do some gentle yoga. Maybe Mary is right. I have a hard time recognizing if am pushing myself too hard. Kne thing I have discovered is we do not give out bodies enough credit. They do tell us when rest and when we need to make a change. I also thought if I wasn't pushing myself hard enough it was good enough. But I do know that isn't the case. Sometimes less is more. But yes, getting old does suck, but sometimes we just need to make some changes. Just my 2 cents.

Hi everyone,

Fat, white flurries going for hours now, but only about 2" so far.

Like Colleen, yesterday I felt achy all over, and I think CLB contributed. Even my hips ached. Mary, I don't know how you did HS the next day! Normally, Thurs is a no-exercise day for me, but with the spin bike I might have done that. However. Since I'm feeling achy, I'll try Foundations or some other yoga to stretch out my sore body. I didn't even push myself that hard the night before with the spin bike so I'm not sure what's going on. Maybe I just don't remember how tiring CLB is since I hadn't done it in a while.
So. From my perspective of exercising less than you gals, I do see that it seems as if you--all of you, excepting Jean--overtrain. Missy twice a day! Carolyn, Colleen, Mary, Marie 6 days a week.
That being said, Carolyn, I don't think you dove in to exercise with wanton disregard. You carefully assessed everything. It's a simple as your body not being ready yet. You'll have to go slowly.
Colleen and Mary, since you work full-time that takes a physical toll, so adding daily and pretty strenuous workouts compounds that physical fatigue.
Marie, you have the added toll of nursing. And a newborn is very physically demanding.
Missy, your body is telling you you need to dial it back.
Ladies, I am here to tell you that I can maintain what we all seek--physique, weight, healthiness--by not working out every day.
Excuse me while I get off my soapbox now.;)

My stew had masaman curry paste in it. It was five-alarm! I tried to counter it with sugar, cream, and it helped, but it is still hotter than I like. It was delicious though. Next time, just plain ole curry powder will do.

Mary, perhaps DD would like advertising? Is she visually creative? Or being strong in math and science, would she consider biotech or biomedical engineering? Those fields are so hot and the jobs will only grow. Not to mention that we are in the best place in the country for them.

Jean, hope all is well with you. Haven't heard from you in a bit.

I love hearing your words of wisdom Betty. I agree with your wisdom. I actually find my results get better with less impact workouts and less intense cardio it maybe it just the change if pace my body has liked.....

Glad you are taking it easy as well today. I wanted to do yoga this morning, but j just needed the rest and sleep instead.

Carolyn, I didn't mean to slap you in the face  As Betty says, I am guilty of it too. We have to remember that ALL of Cathe's workouts are advanced and tough, so taking it easy on one body part but still doing tough workouts is not really taking it easy on our bodies.

Betty, you are the voice of reason. Mentally it is hard to ease up on my workouts. And thanks for the idea of Biomedical engineering, I found a link explaining it and sent it to DD.

Hello....the words of wisdom are much needed!!!

Let me explain myself.... i use to do 1 hr in morning running....but i backed it down to 30 minutes on elliptical. I now dont nec consider it exercise....i just think of it as my wake up...get going....well part of my day! I then do an afternoon/evening workout! This is what i consider my workout!!! But i do push myself to the max! I do workout 7 days a week....so yes i now realize i am overtraining....i just thought if i slacked off i would gain weight and or lose muscle!!! But now that i cant go nearly as hard....i realize that is not the case!

I am like Carolyn.....hearing it from hubby did not mean anything.....i think its because i think he just says it because he loves me...but i didnt think he understands because he doenst workout! ????????

I am listening now......

Thanks for a nice kick in the ass!

Now for the funny part......i went and looked at a recumbent bike at lunch! Hehehe

Maybe I should explain my thoughts.....

I love my elliptical, but I think it causes my alignment issues from time to time....this is not a new problem for me....it just has not been a problem lately. But, I have increased my elliptical use lately....So I was thinking....if I was sitting with my back straight...maybe I could strengthen my legs....which is what I use the elliptical for...I never use the handles....I am normally on cathe.com with my phone...or holding on the handles by the monitor...not the moving handles..... I know the only difference is the elliptical works the core since standing....but I also so Cathe core workouts! Just a thought! Whats your thoughts? Am I crazy? BTW...a spin bike is out of the question...as my back can not handle it....I went to the Y several times and used the spin bikes, and my back cant handle it!

;)

Convincing Tim I need another piece of equipment is the hard part! LOL

I have tried in the past....LOL He is always supportive of all my purchases...but he doesnt think we need a cardio studio in the house! He just got the elliptical out of the living room! I moved it into the bedroom! Because I wanted the extra room in my gym...for floorwork!

Better get back to work!

Hi girls,

I did Foundations 2 earlier. I do like how slow the pace is on these; I can stretch better. I think it did the trick of eliminating that slight migrainey pain right on the top of my left eye. (Which tends to linger over 2 days normally, always going away and eventually returning.)
I still feel hip soreness and all of a sudden I realized what must have caused it. CLB uses 3 risers, and in the past I followed Cedie in lowering it to two. This time I didn't and I think that's the culprit. I usually can only handle one riser when doing Cathe's choreographed step workouts. The added height of a second one makes me trip. So imagine 3.

Missy, you don't use the handles on the elliptical?? Yikes. That's got to be why your hip is misaligned. I've only been on an elliptical a few times to try one out, and I can't imagine how you could move that without using the handles! It must require a lot of hip and leg strength to move it.
Why even get another piece of equipment? You have enough Cathe to do as many times as you like.

Betty----Nope.....I just use my core and lower body....I use the elliptical to strengthen my legs for my races....as I have one coming up in several weeks! I tend to increase my elliptical times....right before races....these past few weeks...I have only done Cathe workouts 1-2 times a week...because I knew I had a 5k coming...so I crank up the resistance on the elliptical...I can really tell a difference when I hit the road! Some people think I am nuts....because it is hard to stay on without holding on...but now I am just so use to it...I get on it and go! hehehehe

Carolyn---I always thought that too....but I cant do much right now....just rest and light cardio....i am thinking I may try to do yoga tonight.....maybe???

Cookies sounds yummy!!!!

Oh yum, cookies!!! I wish someone could make me a homemade batch, without me needing to clean after. I'm so tired of endlessly cooking and cleaning! Waaah, you make me want to make some! But nothing is ever quick!

Jean----sounds like you are getting plenty of exercise in your house moving/remodel! I completely agree with the only emergency trips.....i do the same with my family....we live about 6 hours apart....depending on traffic! I only go if its critical!

Preparing a late dinner...tim is just now heading home! Late night tonight as there opening is tomorrow!!!

Check in later!
