STS CLIP TONIGHT!!!

Loved it!! Just coming off GS chest & tris I was cringing watching all of those push-ups. It looked to me like one of the guys in the back didn't have quite as good of form as Cathe in his core during those push-ups! ;)

I am one of those fence sitters. Probably pretty good bet that I'll be ringing on the charge card Monday!! Still sitting for now, though starting to teeter off

I just watched the STS clips and I am sooooo glad that I preordered. I'm ready to start the rotation! ;-)

Sadly this reinforced my previous decision. I believe the full effect would be lost on me.

Still good timing. Seems like they're pushing you to the other side of the fence. But it's great that you have the clips to help you make the decision before the price goes up.

"But those are made for women".
STS definitely looks like it will appeal to men. Even having the guys do their own warm-up on cardio machines appeals more to most men, IMO. And there's nothing "girly" about the previews! (Hmm...maybe Cathe should make sure to keep her appeal to the female audience by helfting PINK dumbells....any 40# pink dumbbells out there? ;))

My DH plans to do STS with me. He had done S&H with me at one point. I doubt he'll have the patience to do the whole program, but maybe he'll surprise me.

He definitely doesn't think that Cathe's workouts are easier because they're "for women".

OMG I finally had the chance to view the clips. WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am SO excited about these !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOO HOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Did anyone else think it was kinda funny when she sent the guys to the bike before they did the super easy side step warm-up? Are men really that uncoordinated?

But, I do like looking at the guy's muscles while working out. Can't wait to do 30 pushups! :)

It looks great.

I have wrist issues so I wasn't crazy about all the push-ups, but Cathe mentioned in another post that this is just the case with the first phase of STS and that the number of push-ups declines in later phases of the program. Whew!

OK, I guess I'm going to spoil the lovefest and say, "Gosh, pushups." Woo woo woo. Where have we not seen those before? You can't swing a stick in a Cathe weight workout and not hit a pushup.

I HATE HATE HATE pushups.:(

I also agreed with some of the comments about the music.

This made me chuckle because my DH does have trouble with the simple Cathe warm ups, like in S&H. He always manages to be on the wrong foot, or not paying attention when she switches from taps to hamstring curls, etc. He probably gets a decent warm up, but he doesn't look particularly graceful while doing it!:p

I think some are!
But I also think that many don't find rythmic warm-ups to be their cup of tea.

I do wonder if it was their preference, or an option Cathe chose to appeal to cardio-wary men (certain men who work out in gyms seem to have a "cardio is for wimps" mentality--I've seen it on other bodybuilding/fitness boards).

I did a bootcamp with a personal trainer for 3 months last year. We did push-ups every single session, and lots of them. She said they were the best upper body exercise ever. I hate them, but boy did I get a lot stronger.

The point being, haven't I already paid $$$$ for Cathe workouts with dozens of pushups? Why do I pay for them again? And again? And again?

Stronger for what? Doing more pushups?

I'm really sorry about being so pi$$y about the whole thing. I don't know why my attitude has slid so much lately.

FWIW, the pushups are mainly in Meso1 which is just one cycle. After that the chest work is mostly weighted FWIU. I think doing the pushups in 90X made great changes in my upper body. But to each his own.

Actually, you’ve asked a very good question and we’re glad you did because this is something we feel is very important that everyone needs to understand and is a major reason why we made STS.

We would hope that most of the exercises you see in STS are exercises you have seen before from us. The reason is very simple, we always try to use the most effective and best exercises we can for each exercise and pushups are one of the highest rated exercises you can do for your chest and triceps. Why would Cathe select something less effective for muscle endurance?

In selecting exercises for STS Cathe has used her 25+ years of weightlifting experience in the health club as well as her knowledge and experience as group fitness instructor to select what she feels and what research (Google IEMG studies) has shown s to be the absolute best exercises for each muscle group.

All of the exercises in STS have been carefully chosen and researched. If you consult IEMG studies on the top exercises you will find that we have used them all. What you will not see from Cathe is an exercise that is chosen because it looks cool or different. Instead, Cathe selects exercises because they’re safe, balanced and will produce the best result for the time spent. Exercises that are “cool or different” usually fail many of the criteria listed above and no true professional who knows what they’re really doing would include them in a workout like STS.

STS is not about fancy choreography, instead it is closest thing you can get to a real gym workout in your home. It is not the exercises themselves that make STS special, but how Cathe has arranged the exercises that make STS truly unique. Perhaps one of the most important elements of STS is not even related to the exercises, instead concerns the carefully measured rest breaks for each mesocycle based on the intensity of the weight lifted. Taking too short or too long of a rest break is actually why most people end up failing in their exercise program. STS is the first DVD program designed for the home user that really carefully measures the rest break for all three cycles (muscle endurance, hypertrophy and strength).

But let me get back to your original question by saying that every exercise you see today in any DVD was invented years ago by someone else. There really are no new moves left to invent as the human body only moves in certain ways. Cathe could certainly select exercises that perhaps you might not have seen before, but once you do the DVD the exercise would no longer be new to you. What you would be left with then is a “formerly new exercise” that is not as safe or as effective as a tried and true exercise.

STS is all about the workout and getting results and that means selecting the best exercises, not trying to impress our audience with inferior or unsafe never seen before moves.

Thank you for taking the time to explain STS again.

I just feel so dismal because I've never been able to do real BG pushups and probably never will. Now here is a ton of more pushups to remind once again how I fail to measure up fitness-wise.

Sigh.:(

And yeah, I know attitude is part of the battle, but really, I just don't want to be reminded again and again how I'm not strong enough, fit enough, etc.

I think I'm just gonna go have my pity party...:(

Wow, I don't think you should be so hard on yourself :(((HUGS))

I know it's going to come across as sassy and please believe me I really don't mean it that way; if you need a pity party for heaven's sake please throw it (we all definitely need one now and then!!); take a look at your profile and see why you love Cathe workouts. You said they make you feel tough and strong!

I say, screw pushups if you aren't up for them every day; we all need to take everything one day at a time.

I expect that you in fact are tough and strong and Cathe workouts just let you feel that closer to the surface than you feel the rest of your day. Surf that feeling as long as you can, whenever your party is winding up.
