Scary morning

Early, 4:30am I wake up to my boxer Maximus growling. Next, I hear the doorbell ring and both boxers begin to bark like crazy. I went to the front door and a man was standing looking in the window.
I wouldn't open the door. It was pitch black outside and there was no way I was going to open the door to some strange man.
I had to get my husband out of bed. He thought the boxers were crying wolf. I told him, this was no false alarm!

My husband opened the front door and this strange man is asking for a ride out of our subdivision. It's 4:30, pitch black outside!
My husband refused. He told the man he was not willing to drive him anywhere. The man said he lived in the area, but was lost. My husband questioned his story. The man said he had been walking around for hours trying to find his way out of our subdivision. My husband told him how to exit, but refused to drive him anywhere. It was a risk my husband was not willing to take. The man would not take no for an answer, so my husband closed the door on him.
This strange guy stood on our porch screaming profanity.
I wanted to call the police, but my husband told me to hold off. The man left talking on his cell phone? WTH???

Honestly, I'm afraid he will return.
My husband thought he was high on drugs and was disoriented. Hopefully, he won't remember where we live.
I'm so thankful for my boxer Maximus. He scares the crap out of most strangers. The only reason he didn't this morning is because I held him back so my husband could talk to the man without our hell hound trying to get at him.

I still think I should call the police station and report the incident. I think I'll shoot an email to my subdivision trustees.

Oh my gosh, that IS scarey!! I would definitely report it to the police so they have the incident on file, just in case this man decides to return.

I'm very glad your family is safe!!

I would for sure report it. Maybe he went to another house and they called 911. At least you would know if he was picked up. How scarey!!!!

That is SO scary and BIZARRE!!! I agree that you should report it. I wonder if he showed up on anyone else's doorstep? Thank God for big dogs, eh!? I'm so glad you're okay. {{{{{Cynthia}}}}}

Call the police. Maybe it will save someone else from feeling guilty and giving him a ride. They might get hurt. I am so glad that you are okay (shaken I guess) and that your dogs were able to alert you. Stay safe

Cynthia, that's terrifying!! You should absolutely call the police and report this!! Tell your neighbors too! The more people watching out for this guy (and any 'friends' of his) the better. ((((((hugs))))))

That's creepy! So glad nothing bad happened. I would've called the police while hubby was talking to him. How scary. Its possible the guy was just drunk/high and not looking for trouble, but who knows? Maybe he was looking for a single woman or an elderly person. Good for having the dogs and the hubby around. Glad everyone is safe, and give the doggies some extra hugs and snacks today!

I just sent my husband the phone number to our local police dept.
Half the people in our subdivision are retired senior citizens.
This guy would terrify them. I don't think they would drive him anywhere, but you never know.

I'm sorry Cynthia! Thank goodness your husband was home. I would have been really scared, especially when he wouldn't leave and started screaming profanities at you guys! And then left on his cell?

How totally weird.

Thanks everyone for the support!!! I feel so much better. :)

I'm so glad my husband called the police! My husband talked to an officer who knew our subdivision very well. Apparently, there is a problem resident in our subdivision that we were not aware of. Some adult child that hosts a lot of drug related parties. The police have made several trips to this home.
The officer told my DH to call 911 if the guy returns they want to send a car out. Apparently, this is the drill with this particular house.

Not only am I thankful for my big scary dogs,;) I'm so thankful I have wonderful teen/adult boys who know how to have good, wholesome, clean fun:)

Cynthia! SCARY!!! Please tell your DH to STOP OPENING THE DOOR in thoses situations... A knife/gun is all it takes in a split second to change your lives forever. Report it to all the authorities you can ASAP! If he comes back at least its already on file.
Be safe...Your DH is probably right that he wont return but ya never know.
Hugs!

Whew! Glad this turned out OK for you. I'm also glad you called to police. It could have been someone totally innocent, with mental or other health issues that caused his bizarre behavior and who really did need help.

That is what is so unfortunate in today's world. You just never know. He was coherent enough to use his cell phone after he finished screaming all the obscenities:eek:

That is very scary Cynthia! I would also advise to NEVER open the door in a situation like that! If he had a gun or a knife you and your husband would have been in real trouble. :( Too scary!

Please NEVER open your door. It is so true--all it takes is a split second to change your life forever. So good to have the dogs. I always feel better with the dogs present. Your dog was right on about the presence of a stranger. Hope you are feeling better. Just what you never want to hear--your doorbell ringing in the late night.

Oh my word Cynthia very scary!!! I'm with Ellie - call the police. Glad to hear you are both fine. Good thinking on your husbands part. You could have used some KickBOx moves on him!!! HHHHIIIIYYYYAAAA!!!!! He would have been running & crying like a girl!!!

Cynthia,

I am glad you and your husband are ok and you did call the police....but please ladies and gentleman....never, never, never open the door!! Open a window instead if you need to talk to someone outside. Like a window upstairs if you have one.

You hear so many stories and I am glad you guys are ok.
