Ripped with HiiT January

Yesterday I did RWH low impact #2 , I really like this one but my heart rate doesn't go up like the first workout. Today is suppose to be RWH chest, shoulders and triceps. Not sure when I'll get to it. We are being hammered with a blizzard and already have about 3 feet of snow. I shoveled a small part for my dog and had to fight my way out the door. The snow was over the threshold! Going out in a minute to help DH with the driveway. Keep your fingers crossed that our snow blower starts. It was misbehaving on Saturday.

Today was LIHI Legs and I added on the barre bonus from XTrain Legs. Ouch! Not adding in the abs between intervals really makes a difference in the workout.

Sara, I thought the same thing about X10 Step being harder and I also thought that about Cardio Blast when I did that after Plyo 1. I think it has a lot to do with there being no real rests in the X10 workouts since they are even shorter than RWH. Of course, it could also be because I was wiped out after the first workout!

Firemedic--I love Lower Body Trisets. That one was tougher than I expected + the cardio factor. And it is the perfect length to use for a doubles workout. I forget about that workout--I need to use it more.

Elaine--hope you're dug out of the snow! Or at least are getting snow days! We didn't get any snow days here in OK this year. We usually get at least one, but nothing this year.

This morning was EFX #2 and planned doubles is YAYOG Advanced #2.

Jodi, Plyo 1 is still hardest for me. Even harder than 40/20, which was my hardest before, but they are close. Cardio Blast certainly is right up there and I was working for it for sure. I know what you mean about back to back, it does make the second one feel harder.

Jengollf, How are the advanced YAYOG? I'm planning a double with novice today.

I can't believe how hard it is to find the time to do a double. I think today I will finally have time. This is why I get up at the crack of dawn to get in any exercise. Today is LIHI Legs. This one is hard, but fun. I'll try to get in an abs too.

I have to agree Sara--I have all of Cathe's workouts and I still think her Plyo HIIT 1 is her hardest to date! And of course, how hard it is depends on what you did beforehand!

So far I've only done YAYOG Advanced #1, but WOW. He really kicks ip up a big notch. #1 was HARD. I also have to admit I made a lot of noise during this workout. For this workout you are doing all of the same exercises you do in Intermediate #3, but as Advanced Timed Sets? MUCH different. They were all challenging as Timed Sets but the half dive bombers... OMG. For this exercise, he gives you the option of going to Military Presses if the dive bombers were too advanced for you (or become to difficult in the course of the workout) and I won't lie, I considered it. In fact, I decided if my form started failing I would go to Military Presses. And by the 6th set, my dive bombers were getting kind of shallow (chest more than a few inches from the ground at bottom of move), but I was still maintaining form (tho I was going slower than Mark) so I kept at it. My husband said I made a lot of noise during this exercise and it sounded so painful he has no desire to come near Mark Lauren workouts now! With that said, I never failed on any of the exercises tho by the 7th and 8th set of every single one I felt close to it. Very, very challenging and difficult workout. For me at least! I felt it definitely deserves the "advanced" label. He did say at the end that this was the hardest workout in the entire set, but I wasn't positive if he was talking about that particular workout or the Advanced workouts in general. But I guess I will see today since I''ll be doing Advanced #2! I read that it has FULL dive bombers, so that should be fun. /o:

We've dug out! Close to 3 ft. of snow. Yesterday was only shovelmax x2. Our snow blower worked but there was No way my husband could do it all alone. It was a family activity. :)

This morning I did a combo type workout. I did RWH chest, shoulders, back, and shoulders. I figure if I can't get to bis and tris on Friday,I've worked them both by doing chest and back.

This is my son's 5th snow day. As for me,I don't get snow days. I work in a hospital, but I lucked out, it just happens to be my days off. They are forecasting another foot of snow for Friday into Saturday.
I hope to get some snowshoeing and or sledding in after lunch.

Today was Plyo 1, X10 Hi/Lo, and XTrain Core #1. I'm going to have to agree that Plyo 1 is the hardest, and I think what made me decide that is the fun factor. Plyo 2 is hard, but to me, it's also fun. I enjoy it and look forward to doing it. Plyo 1, not so much. There's more of a dread factor!

Today I'll do LIHI Back. That one is tough but doable. Last night I finally got in YAYOG Intermediate 1. Definitely harder than the novice, but manageable. Those military presses got tough by the end.
Elaine, those snow days can get a little cooped up after a while. Will you be able to get to work? Hospitals are the one place that won't understand if you can't make it. :)

This morning was RWH circuit lower body. Those static lunges where hard! :0

Sara, The main roads are down to pavement. I have a 40 min. commute. The woman I work with are very understanding . If I lived within city limits the hospital would have arranged for transportation. I have worked in hospitals that where not so understanding. I feel very fortunate for my co-workers.

Today was Chest, Shoulders & Triceps. Still so tough! 9 regular and 4 decline pushups on my toes..more progress. I feel lucky to have been able to concentrate enough to get through the workout. Just shortly before I started, there was a shoot out in the park across the street from my house. Yes, a real shoot out with real guns and real bullets. And between teenagers no less! Ugh, I need to move.

Jodi, A shoot out! I can't believe you could concentrate enough to do a workout. How completely terrifying. I hope you could sleep last night. And teenagers nonetheless. Makes me want lay down and weep.

It also makes this thread feel a little insignificant today, but I'm grateful for it; it offers some connection with like minded gals and that is a comfort. I find it hard to find people who care about exercise and good health to chat with. :)

So, today I'll be doing all of our favorite WO - Plyo Hiit 1 & Cardio Blast. If I can find the energy at the end to eek out an ab WO I'll do abs 1 b/c it's short. The good thing about this WO is that I feel accomplished when it's over and I know I kicked some calories out.

Happy Friday All.

Good morning ladies. And WOW Jodi! That is insane! I cannot believe that happened so close to you. That is super scary. I would be freaking out. And btw--way to go on progressing with the decline push ups! Those are so hard after all that chest work.

I agree Sara! I know of no one anymore that I can talk health and fitness with. So I always appreciate these boards!

This morning was EFX #3. No doubles today, however I have now done all 9 YAYOG workouts. If anyone is interested, here is the review I wrote for it on my blog (YAYOG).

I actually have changed/cleaned up my diet the past two weeks and I have not gotten the excellent results I was hoping for. Well, not entirely. My weight did drop a few pounds and my digestion improved amazingly, but I didn't have the same endurance, strength and power I normally have during my workouts. And I seemed to be more sore and for longer. I have been eating less protein and carbs than usual and I think that's why. So, I am going back to a few things I did before to see if I see an improvement--protein shakes in the morning and a Quest protein bar in the afternoon. But other than that I am going to stick with the clean eating.

And tomorrow is the last day of the month and for me, the last day of my RwH rotation. Starting on Sunday I'll be moving on to a new rotation: Insanity Max 30 (my doubles workouts), Tapout 1 & 2 (my morning workouts) and I will be supplementing this with STS Total Body and KCM Muscle Up every week.

Hi Ladies,
I've missed a few check-ins while working out last week and I added in some xc-skiing around our back 40. Unfortunately, a few days ago I twisted my knee while skiing and tore a ligament or two, so now I'm back on crutches with a knee brace this time. It's the same leg that I tore my Achilles tendon in June. I turn 50 today and I'm wondering if it's time to give up on certain activities? We were going to go downhill skiing next month. Of course, I'm not going to go but the thought of doing it now seems almost terrifying and dangerous and foolish even though I've always loved it.

I've been truly enjoying reading all your check-ins. I only had 1 and 1/2 weeks left of my 2-month RWH rotation. Too bad I couldn't finish it. Maybe I'll do another round of Body Beast upper body only again adding in lower body floorwork or barre later on. I can't think of anything else I can do right now. I hate the thought of starting over again on lower body and giving up cardio. So disappointing, but I'll get through it.

Elaine, I always wanted to experience a ton of snow like that. Maybe I shouldn't? LOL

Jodi, stay safe.

Sara, I agree too. These check-ins and forums help keep me motivated and inspired.

Jen, your new rotation looks fun !

Oh no Mary! I am so sorry to hear that. Body Beast is great for upper body only workouts but Cathe has a lot of premixes for upper only, plus lots of upper only workouts, too. And in addition to her lower body barre and floor workouts, give Mark Lauren workouts a try! He does have some impact, but you can modify those. Mostly it is body weight strength work and it is amazing. I always think to myself, when I cannot do lots of plyometrics anymore, then I know with his workouts I can still get very advanced workouts with no impact. If you use his book and app you can construct your own workouts, leaving the impact moves out (so no modification necessary). But with his DVDs, you would have to modify the impact exercises.

But I do know that if you are on crutches right now, than any lower body is out of the question. However, when you can get around, give his stuff a try. Cathe and Mark are my two favorite trainers now (with KCM close behind).

Hi all! Today is a rest day for me with one more week of the January rotation to go. Not sure what I'll do after that. I guess I'll see what the February rotation is first, but I also have EFX and my new KCM workouts which I haven't even looked at yet. Plus, my birthday is coming up soon and I may or may not get Jillian Michaels' new program. Too much to choose from!

Thanks everyone for the concern. My neighborhood is usually pretty quiet so the event was a bit jarring. I thought the shots were fireworks, that's how clueless I was! No one hurt that I know of but also no one caught yet. Sara, I guess my drive to get my workout done regardless shows how addicted I am. Flying bullets won't stop me!

Mary, so sorry to hear about your injury, but...HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!! I hope someone has something nice planned for you on your special day.

Jen, I just had a Quest Smores protein bar...sooo good! I'm been slowly making changes in my diet to add more protein and lessen the amount of added sugar I eat. It's amazing where that stuff hides in foods. I read your review of YAYOG as soon as I saw in my inbox. Yes, I need to add that to my collection. :) Good luck with your new rotation. Doesn't sound like much heavy weight work...will you miss that?

I also want to say how much I enjoy being able to talk with you all about workouts, exercise, health, etc. It is something I'm so passionate about yet there is no one around me who shares that passion (of course, I do live in the most obese state in the US so that could explain it). When I try to bring up anything fitness related to friends or co-workers, I get eye rolls or that glazed over looked. So thank you for being there for me!!

That is what concerned me, Jodi. I know both Tapouts contain strength work with bands and Tapout 2 uses a medicine ball, but to me, that equals more metabolic type strength work. Not the heavier work I am accustomed to. That's why I am including STS Total Body and KCM Muscle Up every week. So I will have two solid strength workouts every week. We'll see how it looks once I get into it. I am both excited and nervous. I love new things and this will be a lot of new things! Kickboxing workouts are my favorite cardio workouts plus I know from experience Shaun T rules when it comes to HIIT workouts. So I will not be lacking there! And STS Total Body and KCM's Muscle Up are two of my absolaute favorite total body strength workouts. So fingers crossed it will be a fun and intense month!

This morning I ended my RwH rotation with RIHI Legs + Abs #1. I really love RwH and I know I will be coming back to the workouts frequently. I love all of Cathe's workouts but RwH and Xtrain are my favorite series.

Today I'll do Ride again. Since I've already done it once, and then Cyclemax I'm hoping it feels a little easier. I think sometimes the first time is the worst b/c your just going into it blind.

Hope everyone has a super weekend.
