QUIRKY LITTLE THINGS ABOUT CLX

I remember reading on Chalene's blog about her love of Nike Shox, including those wacky boots.

I like Chalene's style.:) Yeah, it's out there, but it fits her. I find her extremely genuine and true to herself.
This youtube video may shed some light on Chalene's personality. She is the dancer on the left.

Just watched that video...don;t have any Chalean, do not know who she is....but watchign THIS does NOT make me want to go out and buy her videos...can't relate.

Know there's something for everyone, so appreciate the differences.

But love Cathe's professionalism and warmth...for me, I can relate to that/her the best. She's really set the bar high...I'm spoiled, I now, because of Cathe, expect that from anyone I'm going to 'spend time' with.

Life's too busy and full to be annoyed with something when working out!

Shani,

I'm trying to find more clips of Chalene on the ball workouts.
Do you have them and do you like them?

I'm looking for some lower(medium) intensity workouts to use during recovery weeks for STS.
I'm going to add recovery weeks to CLX the next time I use the program.

Cynthia, I saw you ordered them. You won't regret the purchase, but I don't think they'll work for recovery! Total Body Blast is intense... and burns more calories than any of her other workouts (well I don't know about CLX yet!)

They are different, and really work the back and shoulders. Who would have thought holding a ball would do that? ;)

About her boots...if you are a club member on teambeachbody under trainer tips they show Chalene in her house in one segment and she has a small walk in CLOSET of just SNEAKERS, most look like the Nike Shox in every color imaginable! She shows those boots (2 black pairs) and a pair in pink and says she had them specially dyed for her (because who else would wear those boots in pink!). She also says since fitness is her job/life of course she needs the shoes to match every outfit.

Does anyone know if CLX is what Chalene does herself in real life? She said she did the research for these workouts..I wonder if she just studied up on this type of training but does something else herself? Like Cathe mentions STS is close to what she really does.

Shani may know more than I do. I don't know what Chalene did to prepare fo CLX. I've read hints that she consulted with Alywn Cosgrove. I don't know how true that is.

Here is a link to a review that compares CLX to Alwyn's training principles

All that I know about Chalene is that she is the creator of Turbo Kick and has turbo kick instructors all over. I read somewhere that she has a black belt, but I don't know in what form of martial arts.
Both my boys have a black belt in tae kwan do, and that took years of a lot of hard work to obtain. The sport develops endurance, strength, and coordination. Because of all the balance work they had to do for their art, they can do any yoga workout with absolute ease. It shocked me to see that. I struggle with yoga. :(

I wanted to add, I love all the glute work in CLX.
My glutes are the one area of my body I need to focus. I've never worked my booty as hard as I have been with CLX.

I don't know, but a beachbody coach that loves Chalene might! I am not a member of team beachbody anymore and don't watch Chalene's blog so much anymore... I know she is the founder of Piyo, Turbo Kick (the gym version) and Turbo Jam, plus a personal trainer. She is married with 2 kids (boy and a girl) and lives in Orange County, CA. She loves to be goofy and kid around, and if you've never watched any of her DVDs to the end, do it... you'll find blunders and tricks that she plays on her cast members etc... :)

I'm really liking CLX. I love Chalene and her energy and I haven't even noticed the boots (where are the boots?)! I'm guessing I don't look at the tv much while I'm working out.

And speaking of appearance:
Seems just like yesterday people were complaining about Cathe with the super fake tan and the annoying sach and the hair extensions...I'm just saying.;)

I also don't think that the "bar" that Cathe set is that much higher (if at all) than other instructors anymore. Just my opinion:p. Don't get me wrong, Cathe is great, but so are a lot of others instructors out there.

I couldn't relate to Chalene in her Turbo Jam workouts, but she isn't the same in CLX. I really like her in this series. I even picked up two of the more athletic (and less 'party down') TJ workouts to use with it (though from them, I know I would STILL not like any of her workouts with "party" in the title, like "Cardio Party").

I think Chalene used to do light weight/high rep type weight workouts, like in Turbo Jam (she mentioned that on her CD or on one of the DVD's). CLX is a new type of training system for her, as well, but I do think she did research on it, and tried it out on a test group before finalizing the workouts.

All my instructors bring something different to my workouts. They all have different strengths and I benefit from those differences. CLX is like nothing on the market today. I think BB has found another niche in the home video fitness industry. I also think BB sets the "bar" pretty high. There was nothing like P90X on the market for how many years?
I like variety. I would be completely bored if all my instructors had the same personality.
I agree with Christine's assessment. Chalene reminds me of all my cheerleader girlfriends I had in HS. Fun, upbeat, not afraid to let loose. :DMy personality falls somewhere in the middle of Cathe and Chalene. I love both for who they are. :)

I agree. In my mind, Beachbody has set the "bar". Nothing has come close to P90X in my opinion (maybe STS will, who knows). I also think it will be hard to out-do CLX. It's very different from what's out there. It's tough, effective, fun, and time efficient and that's what I love about it.

I agree!

Even now, I still think P90X is the bar to hit. I'll know if STS reaches the bar after I see it.

And CLX is so different from anything else I have (in a good way, not in a "let's just put some stuff in there for variety's sake, whether or not it's effective" way that some instructors have done, IMO).

P90X is the reason I didn't hesitate to spend the money on STS.
P90X is an incredible program. If ever there is a doubt it isn't as great as all the claims, just stroll through BB's forums. There are some amazing P90X bodies over there.

What's up with the workout clothes....glitter....buckles...studs...tassels.....looks like something from the 80's (Cathe never wears glitter or studs) ;)

Chalene definitely has her own style, doesn't she! There are some pretty strange looking boots in one of the workouts (kind of S&M if you ask me).
But when I'm doing the workouts, I don't pay much attention.

And she (and her sister) were constantly pulling and adjusting their pants. (Cathe never pulls on her pants)

I never noticed ! For many of the moves, I'm not looking at the TV.

Can Chalean do the entire workout??? (or any BB instructor) who knows, she stops to point out knee caps and sweat.... (Cathe does every rep (at least in the dvd's that I have) :p

I actually like the 'personal trainer' vibe of most BB workouts. I don't need the instructor to do all the reps with me, as long as the backgrounders do. And I like her form pointers and her encouragement. Listening to her yammer on ;) actually helps me get through some of those final reps.

What rep are we on??? Who knows, she ain't countin' (Cathe counts....and Cede helps her)

I don't mind her not counting (we're supposed to do our own pace), but I do wish the reps were consistent and/or the rep counter (which should be BIGGER!) were consistent at when it counts a rep. I just count my own, and am sometimes ahead (because I start the move before they do), sometimes behind.

Frankly, the constant counting on some of the STS clips drove me batty! I'm hoping the workouts themselves don't feel the same way.

It does take getting into a different mind set.

Whats the point in having an instructional dvd when you are constantly stopping to give....well ...instructions (Cathe gives pointers, but she never stops working out) EVER!:)

Again, not something that bothers me.

What's up with the random TV's with sexy people on them (Cathe has real sexy people-not scary pod people trapped in a flat screen)

I rarely pay attention to it, but I agree it is a bit odd.

Does it make a difference if the music is on-it's really not noticeable (Cathe's music makes me shake my booty)

I wouldn't want too-noticeable music with a strong beat, as that would make me follow the beat, and that's not the point. For me, the music is just right. And it IS louder and more thumping in the cardio workouts.

She has on a lot of makeup (Cathe never looks like she's been hangin' out at the free makeup counter) :p

Again, I don't pay attention.

Hmmmmm random camera guy.......NUFF SAID!

If this had been done in a more 'artistic' way (like it was planned), it might not be so annoying. But it often looks like just some shlub made a mistake and walked where he shouldn't have. (Or if the cameramen were hot bods, dressed in shorts, I wouldn't mind!)

Two things you didn't mention that bug me:
1) can Chalene NOT come up with a different warm-up once in a while?
2) what's with not stretching the upper body after most workouts?

Aside from a few "what the heck?" things, I'm really loving this series.

I totally agree. It is different, but she is not fake at all, whatever she is wearing, saying and doing comes out as real. She is a great motivator (not that I need one) but many can use some well placed motivation.
I do like my CLX a lot, glad that I bought it.

If anyone is struggling with holding the heavy weights in CLX (like me), someone posted a solution on VG.
They will come in handy for STS too.
Wrist wraps with hooks. They are suppose to take the pressure off the grip.

oops, I just noticed it was Sunnyside who posted the suggestion on VF!.
Thanks again Daisy! Great idea!!!

I seem to find myself wanting to say what you say exactly the way you say it so I just wait for you to say it and then quote you...LOL!

I was at Lady Foot Locker this weekend and they had similar boots! I thought of Chalene and this thread. They were on sale. :p

I think you gotta have MAJOR confidence to pull them off and she does. Now, if I would stop PREVIEWING the darn workouts and actually DO them. :)
