Push It

Returning to report that the sauce was AWESOME!! Will definitely be doing that again. No more jar sauce for me :D

Jennifer
I was just wondering what I needed to do to make it less watery. Thanks for the tip!!

Toni---Happy Belated Birthday. Good to hear that the counseling session went well. Homemade sauce sounds delicious. I'm excited that you are trying STS too. This is your first time right?? It will definitely lean you out.

Tasha----Plyo--Push ups. Only in my dreams lady. You are a BEAST now.:D Are you eating a high protein diet right now?

Jennifer and Tasha
---My push up count is only good when I am actually doing push ups consistently as in 3 days of week which I haven't done in a long time. My count is just okay but I'm happy that I can still do some push ups.

Stacie--congrats on increasing the weights. That is truly an awesome feeling that I can relate too.

This morning was STS Back and Triceps disc 5. I should be on disc 7 but I am not stressing. I decided that I would just move along with the program this time at my own pace as long as I get through it. There are days I choose cardio and delay the strength training. I have an evening event at work tonight so it will be a very long day.

Happy Belated Birthday Toni!!!!!

Hi everyone :)

Hope you all had some lovely enjoyable weather. It's been so nice here, so hopefully no more snow . Watch, I probably just jinxed myself .

Yesterday Bella and I went for a nice walk around the neighborhood. It was damp out, so we didn't end up going to the park. My w/o was BB Build Legs (evil, evil, evil). When you do this one Stacie, make sure you have a padded toilet seat handy ;). My w/o on Sat was BB Build Shoulder's (the best shoulder routine I have ever done). I have always wanted nice, round, shapely shoulder's, so I think I really do need an entire w/o that focuses on them. Here's hoping Sagi pulls through for me :D

BTW, I was reading on the Body Beast forum (lol, I don't plan on becoming a member there :D) and there is this one thread called Advice For Women. There are many women that have had amazing results from this program. One lady, 47yrs old, got amazing results after initially being skeptical of the limited cardio. Check it out!: Team Beachbody - Advise for women doing Beast - Connect: Message Boards
I'm also seeing results already. Weight training rocks!

Toni
Glad to hear the counseling session went well and Jasmine's party was a hit.
I love homemade sauce :p. Nothing like a nice bowl of pasta ;).

Heartymax
I'm eating a diet that is higher in protein, but I have not decreased my carbs drastically. I've added a scoop of protein powder in the evening before bed.

Jennifer
OMG your w/o looked awesome! And then you did 40/20 . And WTG for pushing through that last box jump...I know exactly how you feel. It's amazing what your body can achieve when your mind is determined.
Glad to hear Whisper is doing better :).
BTW, I'm not sure how I would be able to do cable rotations in my home. Wait, is it sorta like the same move that Cathe does in Super Cuts, where she takes the tubing and pulls it across the body? I have a door attachment!
Church sounded...can I say this...fun? Catholic church ceremonies are boring as heck, sadly :(.
Yes, I saw the part in the interview where Sagi says he liked my name . I'm not going to tell you what thoughts went through my mind at the time ;).

Have a great day ladies!

Good morning ladies! I took Friday and Saturday off due to extreme exhaustion. I realized that night that I have been so tired because I am getting sick! :( Last night I had a sore throat and a runny nose which have reappeared this morning. I'm going to drink a ton of peppermint tea the next couple of days to see if I can chase it away. Last night was Low Max step combos only. I have to say, that's a pretty nice and easy steady state cardio mix.

Friday night Tyler barely passed his brown belt test. He was scolded for not kicking high enough and had to repeat a portion of the test. Luckily, he did well on the sparring portion or I don't think they would have passed him. I have been telling him to get his kicks up for a while now...he didn't take me seriously until the testing. Hopefully he learned his lesson!

Saturday I picked up the curl bar. The ones the guy had for $7 were AWFUL...extremely rusty and one of them had this nasty tape on it. I had to pay an extra $3 for the one I got (which was annoying) but it's a pretty nice one. I picked up a barbell for my neighbor -- a very nice chrome one. She also bought some plate weights so we are one step closer to starting Body Beast! :D

Yesterday I made some Pineapple / Coconut Protein bars and they came out super tasty. I took Jamie E. lemon protein bars and made some mods to the recipe. I am going to try them one more time and sub half of of the applesauce with crushed pineapple.

Toni
Happy Belated Birthday! I'm sorry to hear it wasn't the most fun but I am glad that counseling went well. It sounds like all the girls had a great time at Jasmine's party too! Well done!

Me enable? Never! LOL...just kidding! I feel lucky to have found Body Beast on Craigslist. I don't blame you though for wanting to do what you have. I have some that I haven't tried out yet as well.

I love homemade sauce! It's actually all that I use. I don't go all the way down to fresh tomatoes (although I should!) but I start with tomato sauce. My ex was Italian and he used to even make the noodles from scratch. He still says he will show me how -- we'll see if that ever come to fruition.

Jennifer
Thanks for the congrats on using the 12 pounds but I already was at that weight! I was using the bulky plate weights and they are kinda awkward for some of the exercises. It was nice to be able just to grab the 12s now!

Ok....so I have a question that you might know the answer to. If someone is subbing pull ups by using the band over the door does there need to be a door attachment for the band? I never paid close attention to how they were doing it in STS because I had the TT. I don't plan on having her use the TT for that because of the uncertainty of the weight limitation.

Btw, your meals always sound delicious!

Natasha
BB Legs sounds soooo hard. I already have a slight amount of fear on that. On the the shorter workout days, I was planning on adding in some cardio. I know I am going to be doing the program the exact opposite of what's its design for which has me a tad nervous but I still think it will be a good experience. :D

I saw that you made the Snack-O-Matic bars. Were they like Lara bars or totally different?

I finished the second round of Walking Dead books. They really make me have some crazy thoughts. I start thinking of what I would do in those situations because I have nearly zero survival skills! I can't hot wire a car, siphon gas, no weapon skills...I think I would be zombie in no time flat!

HeartyMax
Great job on those STS workouts! I like your approach of not stressing out about sticking to the rotation.

Have a great day everyone!

Good afternoon!

Stacie,
So sorry to hear you are getting sick! This must be the time of year because a couple I know managed to get Strep throat, and several others have the coughing and sinus issue going on. I hope you feel better soon - getting rest over the weekend was a good choice.

Congrats on the curl bar, and definitely upgrading $3 was worth it:D And that's cool about the dumbbells versus the weight plate. I'm looking forward to when you start BB:cool:

I am glad Tyler did well in the sparring and passed his test; I hope his kicks get better. Seems his teacher/coach should be helping him with that, but I guess it mainly comes down to practice.

Your pineapple/coconut bars sound AMAZING! Subbing some applesauce for the pineapple is a great idea! I just bought a bag of frozen pineapple chunks so I definitely will be trying that!

As for the band over the door... is it just looped over the top of an open door? If so, personally, I would be afraid that I'd end up pulling the band off the door. I haven't seen any parts of STS so I'm only assuming that it's looped over the top. Cathe is very safe, though, so I would think that whatever she is doing is safe. I don't think I really answered your question, but the door attachment (dowel) that I'm referring to is a loop with a flat end; the flat end sticks through the hinged-side of the door and then the band/tubing loops through the loop of the attachment. Then the door has to be closed securely. You can place the attachment at the top of the door, middle of the door, or low - all kinds of exercise variations there!

Tash,
That is so awesome about your shoulder work and I am jealous! You are funny - evil leg workout:D Hopefully the nice weather and the walk helped your legs from getting tight.

I've only done Supercuts a couple times and I really don't remember the move that Cathe does; sorry! I described the attachment I have in the para just above. I don't know if you mean that it attaches to the door knob or not but that's not the kind I have.

I'm with ya' on the Catholic church part! No offense to any Catholic people but the church we go to is so not formal. It's very comfortable and casual:)

I'm looking forward to reading the BB forum talk - thanks for the link!

OH - I wanted to tell you. I just realized that I actually can listen to Songza in the basement. I remembered that I brought down my laptop to do Bible Butt - which was a bit annoying because the screen kept going to screen saver (should have just turned that off!). However that wouldn't be an issue listening to Songza, for one thing, and for another I can use my Kindle instead. Thank you for bringing that up! My CDs are getting old.

Toni,
So glad your sauce was so good! And I'm glad Craig's method was helpful to know. Speaking of that, fyi, it does seem to take a while to burn out the excess liquid so be aware of that.

How are things going this week? What is your next Spinning workout going to be?

Heartymax,
I understand altering your rotation. After all, every day is different and sometimes going rogue is necessary:)

I don't do a lot of pushups regularly anymore but I did test myself last week - I can do 16:D I'm getting stronger!

Have a great day, everyone! Hi TmJ:)

Well it's Monday again!! That means my first crack at STS  I did D3 today. I did some HC yesterday and I didn't want to put that next to shoulder work. I'm saving D1 for Friday. I also did the Low Intensity step from 4DS. That's my extra cardio for today :) The back and tricep work wiped me out for some reason!! My body was totally tired afterwards. My 1RM testing was still entered from when I was going to do STS before, so I used that as a bit of a guide but I also upped a couple things based on my recent work. I think my tricep numbers were good, but my back weights need to drop a tad. I've never done tricep work with back work, so I wasn't expecting my triceps to affect my back work so much. I think I may need to add a tad bit of rest between a couple of the moves so I can get the most out of my back work.

I used my squat rack with the bar across for my pull up. I have to do over hand pull ups instead of underhand chin ups. The chin ups make my hand feel like it's separating from my arm at the wrist  But the overhanded version doesn't bother my wrist at all  I have no idea why there is such a big difference, but I'm glad to be able to try the pull ups. I was only able to do 10 and that was with a bent knee. My forearms were definitely a weak link for those, but I certainly feel like I'm getting much more of a back work than with the bands. I'm considering getting a wall mounted pull up bar with a pull up assist band. That would be about $100 for the two  I'm no where near being strong enough for it yet, so I think I may wait until closer to M2 before I make my final decision to get one. I so badly want to do a pull up(always have), but I don't think I'm ever gonna get there with that door mounted bar. It's just too close to the grown and I can't get in the right position to do them with the right form.

Tomorrow is spinning with the Ride DVD, which I'm really looking forward too!!

I have a question for everyone. How much do you limit bread/pasta/grains from your diet? I was looking at the Paleo(sp?) diet a bit and was thinking of trying it to see how my body responded. I'm not really an all or nothing type person, but I think I could try limiting grains for a meal several times a week.

Tasha
I'm really enjoying hearing your reviews of BB. I may seriously look into getting that next year. I must say that an entire day for shoulders sounds a bit scary

Stacie
I'm sorry I gave the impression that my birthday wasn't fun. It totally was. Jasmine was so happy and I felt really good coming out of my counseling session. Those two things were all I needed to have a great BDay!!

HeartyMax
Glad to know you are doing STS at your own pace. I don't like to stress out about my workout rotations. There are so many other things in life to stress out our workouts shouldn't be one of them.

Thanks everyone for the BDay wishes!!

Tasha---you are having so much fun with BB. I envy the body you are about to have:D.

Toni--my triceps are little sore from yesterday's workout. How are yours doing?

Stacie---those protein bars sound yummy. You ladies have been making some great treats.

This morning was After Burn. I was so wiped out at the end until my sliding plank push ups turned out to be a sliding hold plank.:D

The weather has been cooler the last couple of days. Yesterday was high 50's. I am so ready for that nice sunny weather to come back.

Today was Ride in it's entirety. I made some adjustments to my bike from last week. At the very end of CycleMax my knees were killing me, so I raised my seat a bit today. That helped...no achy knees today. I also made sure to sit further back on the seat today. After CycleMax last week my booty was beyond sore for a couple days. Today I'm not feeling anything, so I think my adjustments have helped :D

I really like the timer on Ride. I'm not sure if this one is harder than CycleMax, but I like it better. Because of the timer and the music is better. I can't wait for the next one to come out. I'm loving me some spinning!! I'm supposed to do All Out tomorrow followed by STS Legs the next day. I'm not sure that's a good idea. I think I'll do some less leg heavy cardio tomorrow before I do Legs D3.

I'm at work, so I'll come back later for personals :)

Hello ladies :)

Yesterday's w/o was BB Tempo Chest & Tri's (50min). This w/o is similar to Cathe's S&H series. One word: FIRE . So here is the low down: you start off with 15R with a 6 count up/6 count down, then 12R with a 3 count up/6 count down, 8R with a 3 count up/3 count down. I could literally see my chest and tri muscles quivering! Best feeling! Once you are done each group of exercises, you proceed to AB WORK . For example, once you have finished all your chest presses (as if your arms and chest are not burning enough), you have to finish off with spider mountain climber's . Most of the ab exercise are plank related, which is really hard after your chest & tri's are so fatigued. While finishing the last group, during the oblique plank twists, I literally dropped to the ground in sheer exhaustion. One of THE BEST w/o's I have ever done.

I took a rest day today. I am just too darn sore! I did however spend about 1 1/2hrs outside walking, and at the park.

Stacie

Why are you nervous about doing BB your way? I still think you are going to get kick-a** results, so don't worry about it :). I'm going to be completely honest here, and say that I AM enjoying BB more than STS M1 (UB only -- cuz' you know how much I love legs :p) or M3. M1 is a bit too hurried for my liking, and I always feel as though I'm here, there, everywhere, like a frantic lunatic. I also think the w/o's in STS are far too long! With Body Beast, you get such intense w/o's in such a short amount of time! I also feel as though it's laid-out a bit better -- not *too* many exercises, Sagi gives you enough time to get your equip ready, little things like that. Anyway, I'm happy we can discuss our BB experience together .
I'm sorry to hear that you are sick :(. Hopefully you recovery quickly.
LOL about TWD stuff! You made me laugh so hard :D.

Heartymax
I feel as though split weight training gets me in great shape. My body does not build muscle easily, so when I do see a *bit* more muscle def, I get excited :D.
How you do all those intense w/o's in the early morning amazes me!

Toni
TBH, I don't really have a lot of grains daily (bread, pasta, noodles, rice, ect). I have not omitted them from my diet entirely, I just don't feel the need to eat them daily. For carbs I love beans, oatmeal, cream of rice (which happens to be wheat and gluten free), quinoa, spelt flakes, all potatoes. What I do notice is that if I go days without having bread, my stomach looks flatter. But that does not mean I won't ever have a nice bagel w/ cream cheese on occasion ;).

Jennifer
Yes, I have that same door attachment!
Are you feeling any nice DOMS from your last w/o?
I really love Songza! Glad you are able to listen to it while doing your w/o's. There is this one playlist called 90's Anger Management -- I friggin love it!

Gotta jet! You ladies have a good night :)

Hi!
Yesterday I did the regular AOLIH; no doubles or anything. No buns a-burnin' this time, either... I must finally be used to it.

This morning I did Bret's workout A. I'm actually supposed to do A and B on consecutive days, then skip a day, then workout A again followed by C on consecutive days (then skip a day again, then take a rest day). The Skip days are active rest; I'll do upper body.

I forgot the technical format last week and just did the 3 workouts but this week I will do it like he recommends. Workout A took about 35 minutes; then I did Ride for about a half hour (premix #4). Tomorrow I will do Workout B and then I'm thinking Hard Strikes; hopefully I'll have time for the shoulder drills:cool:

Tash,
I listened to Songza today. As soon as I logged on the default options popped up and I choose Workout, then listened to 2 different styles. I definitely will check out yours! I was kind of like, eh, it is background music but I really would like something heavier or more techno or something. My Prerogative just doesn't do it for me!

Your workout sounds fantastic! Geez - Spider mountain climbers and planks after all that Slow and Heavy! No wonder you took a rest day today:D I am about to cave and buy it. NO - I can't... I still have my plane trip to NJ to purchase, and my trip to Montana with my mom is going to cost a fortune. I paid off that air fare, though - over $800! Anyway, cool - glad you have the door attachment. Definitely check out the Cable Rotations but be sure to keep your knees and feet planted and set; only rotate at the hips.

Toni,
I'm glad you got your bike adjusted and that the workout felt good. I also prefer Ride to Cycle Max for the reasons you mentioned.

Nice job with the pullups!

I haven't really thought about it before but I guess I don't eat a whole lot of bread/cereal/grains. I have a couple pieces of bread with my sandwich (lunch), and dinner sometimes is rice or pasta but mostly it's just veggies and protein. Snacks are whatever kick I happen to be on... most recently the fruit/seed bars and before that was the protein muffins; before that was the lemon bars. Actually, I eat Triscuits crackers as a snack after dinner sometimes (I honestly love those things). Breakfast is a smoothie during the week but weekends sometimes I'll have PB&J on a couple pieces toast or a couple eggs with a couple pieces of toast. So, I guess I do eat quite a bit of grains after all.

Gotta fly - heading to church for a different guest speaker; hope he's funny like the other guy:D

Disc 6 Legs today. I already know I will be feeling the hams later today from those sliding disc lunges.

Tasha---How do you hold yourself up for planks after all those slow count moves. I would probably just collapse on the floor.

Jennifer---yeah--does sound like you get in an okay amount of grains::D My favorite breakfast is wholewheat toast with peanut butter and banana--yum yum.

Today is DS 15 birthday. No plans for this evening, but we will go out to dinner this weekend. I signed him up to attend a teen abstinence---sex education workshop that is facilitated by one of the local doctors. He and a few of the neighbors will be going. Parents are welcome to attend but I am choosing not to this time so he can feel very comfortable asking any questions he wants. I love my son but I also know that kids don't always talk to their parents about this tough stuff. Someone told me that most parents think abstinence is not realistic---that may be true--but STD's are so any education can be beneficial to him as a teen and will open the door for him to discuss more with his father. I know he is not comfortable talking to me about sex. My neighbors kids have been before but this will be my son's first time.

Good morning everyone! I have returned to the land of living. My "cold" (my neighbor thinks it was the flu and she may be right") hit me hard Monday night. I was achy everywhere and had the the chills. Yesterday I was able to work from home which helped a lot since everything really ached still and the chairs at work are just awful. Unfortunately, I haven't worked out in two day but hopefully tonight we will start again.

Jennifer
If you decide to make the pineapple coconut protein bars, I subbed 3 tsps of Dasani Pineapple Coconut drops for the lemon flavoring. I also cut the sugar down to 1/4 c of Truvia. I think adding in the frozen pineapple (were you thinking of thawing it first?) would really make them tasty!

Toni
I'm glad that you did have a wonderful birthday after all! It's hard not to when you're cruising around in a limo! ;)

Great job on the pull ups -- 10 is an awesome number! I like the timer on The Ride too. Since I don't have CycleMax, I didn't realize that it didn't have the timer either. I still want to get those audio spinning DVDs. I am planning on picking up one or two when I get paid again. Since someone hogs the TV a lot, I think they will work out really well for me.

Most of my grain intake comes from the items I bake or from spaghetti which Tyler just loves. I will eat some bread with almond butter on it now and then. I can't help it because I just love almond butter! I guess if there's bread offered with a meal in a restaurant I will eat it too. Sometimes on the weekends, I will eat over-easy eggs with a couple pieces of toast. I always buy whole grain bread and pasta too. I honestly wish stores sold half loaves since I find that we do throw away a lot of bread. :( I don't eat it with every meal though. Oh...I guess I do like my Honey Nut Bunch of Oats too which is a grain. I don't eat them that often though but I do always have a box on hand.

Natasha
I worry about modifying the way Body Beast is designed to work that I won't get as good of results. I have been reading various threads on the BB forum as well and some of the women still swear that they have have weight and etc just following the program as it was designed but only slightly increasing their calories.

I agree with you about M1 being frantic. My living room would like like a tornado came through and tossed weights every where. I couldn't keep up with the equipment changes and had to pause a lot. A lot of the STS workouts take a long time due to that...

Oh sure, laugh at my Walking Dead comments until I'm a zombie attacking you! Just kidding...;):D

The Tempo BB workout sounds brutal. My neighbor is going to be HATING me when we start this program next month.

HeartyMax
I think most of my sliding pushups turn out to be sliding planks.

Happy Birthday to DS! I think Sex Education is a good idea for kids starting from maybe 14 on up. I hope he finds the work shop useful. It's hard isn't it? You want them to make good choice but you don't want to encourage certain behaviors either.

Have a great day everyone!

Good afternoon,

I logged on really quick just to tell you ladies that a LOT of Walking Lunges holding 15# dumbbells will strengthen your forearms. For example - 20 reps and 3 sets each leg - 20 right leg lead, 20 left leg lead, repeat 2 times).

Since I'm online I'll mention my workout. This morning was Workout B but instead of cardio I did the Mix Hotflash workout (standing crunches and plank work). I will either do Athletic training or Afterburn tomorrow... haven't decided.

I actually really don't like walking lunges - at all - because they are really hard to stay stabilized but they also are sort of a pain to do in a small amount of space. I was thinking about doing that Jillian Michaels move instead... the one-knee down, then both knees down, then lead with one leg to push off the ground and stand up; I think she calls them Suicides but they are not the Suicides that Cathe does. Anyway, those won't require a lot of space.

Stacie,
So glad you are feeling better! The flu is just miserable:(

Did I really see on the news that there is more snow in Denver - again?! We've dropped back into the 30s/40s with rain but so far haven't had snow.

I wanted to tell you that slices of bread are really easy to take from the loaf even if you keep it in the freezer; it thaws very quickly. Or you could put half a loaf in a Ziplock and freeze that half. Speaking of, I was thinking I could put the frozen pineapple chunks in the blender and to puree it but maybe I should thaw it first. Thanks.

Heartymax,
Nice job parenting, and happy birthing day!

Hi Tash
How are you feeling today?! How is the weather - did it get cold on you?

My Kindle was annoying this morning; it needed to update or whatever and took for-ever to come up. Then I tried to select a genre of music but the list stopped at Dance for whatever reason - I think the Kindle might not have been finished doing it's thing. It was really annoying so I went with a CD.

Have a super day everyone!

Hello ladies :)

Yesterday's w/o was Tempo Back & Bi's (same concept as Tempo Chest & Tri's). Nothing much to say except I was burning and sweating the entire time. Good stuff!

So, my goal was not to lose weight with this program. I have no clue as to how much I weigh, but I can just tell that I have lost weight (my breasts get smaller, my ribs are slightly more visible, my pants are looser, little clues like that). I really do hope I lost body fat and not just water weight or muscles :(. I know, boo hoo for me  I got problems right? I'm just hoping by the end of the program I gain muscle mass. Perhaps I need to eat a little more -- I honestly thought I was eating enough. SO I guess it is possible to lose weight without doing so much cardio just as long as your diet consists of mostly clean foods and you don't eat more than you burn. OTOH these w/o's ARE pretty intense.

Jennifer
Speaking of forearms, yesterday I did reverse curls w/the EZ . Holy did they ever burn! I'm telling you, the bar is SO much better than a reg straight bar! Thanks for the tip about the lunges too :). And yes, Jillian calls that move suicides .
LOL, I've already enabled Stacie and another girl from my check-in into buying BB...it's just a matter of time ;). Honestly though, to enjoy this program and get the full benefits of it, you have to love split weight work. I know some people do, and some people don't.

Heartymax
Happy birthday to your DS :). BTW, I think sex-ed for the teens is a great idea.
How is STS M1 treating ya? DOMS related of course .

Stacie
Ok, so add me to the list of those people who lost a bit of weight with this program. Don't be fooled, the w/o's are intense if you use the right weight . All those super-sets and giant-sets have me sweating like crazy! Count the legs w/o's as cardio btw! My heart was jumping out of my throat . Anyway, you do what you gotta do and just have fun with it :). Did you watch the interview with Sagi? He addresses many women's issues (soy, weight loss, supplements, ect). I think you will find it very informative.

Have a rockin' day folks!

2013 continues to be a rough year. My company had lay offs on Monday - 60 people let go (out of a total 180). My job is fine. It's been really hard - I've lost a lot of friends.

I haven't forgotten you guys I just need to get my head on straight. I will be back!

Good morning,
Today was going to be upper body or circuit; I ended up with Yoga Relax Express premix (28min). From the 2 consecutive Glute workouts my lower back is a bit tight - hence the Yoga Relax. There are no ab stretches/upward dog in that particular premix so I did it instead of the final relaxation pose; since I'm not very yogaish, I was happy to make the substitution:D

I also thought I should skip UB because my shoulders are very clicky and have been for a few days; I'm scheduled for a myo-massage and then the chiro (Friday) so I figured I would wait until my joints' range of motion are working properly before doing upper body. I'm a little bummed about that because I prefer doing UB strength twice/week:( I will live and will totally kick butt with Burn Sets Saturday:D

Last night we ended up going out for Thai food; the Spring rolls with spicy peanut sauce are awesome. The Ginger chicken with steamed white rice was pretty good as well.

TmJ,
I am sorry to hear about your company and your friends. I'm glad your job is okay. Pray for Peace:cool:

Tash,
That's great news about your awesome results so far with BB! Pants getting loose is awesome (although buying new pants sort of vacuums).

This may be a silly question but have you noticed more definition any of your muscle groups?

Several people (Cathe, Bret, Pauline) have mentioned that cardio can hinder muscle growth and of course strength training has to be intense. Not in those exact words but along those lines. Remember that it takes time so be patient with your body, also remember that rest is when the muscles repair themselves and come back stronger and bigger since your workouts are intense enough to get bigger; strength training shapes muscles and burns fat. You don't have much body fat anyway.

I totally get why BB is split upper body workouts. Good to know so thank you for pointing it out. I have considered splitting the upper body workouts on/off and keep going back to regular all UB:rolleyes: I know the strength gains have got to be better doing splits like that. I will continue to think seriously about a routine that will work for me.

Toni, Heartymax, and Stacie - hope all is well

Enjoy your day!

Good morning ladies! It has been absolute chaos today since it's Bring Your Child to Work Day and I am one of the committee members.

Last night we did Pyramid Upper Body. Holy moly...what a way to get back into the swing of things! The bicep section is an absolutely killer.

Natasha
How do you feel about the weight loss due to Body Beast? Is it a good thing or a bad one? I almost got a vibe that maybe it wasn't such a good thing because you weren't try to loose weight. Do you feel like you have more muscle definition?

TMJ
I'm sorry that 2013 is not being very kind to you. It's very frustrating to see people you know and spend a lot of time with suffer due to lay offs. It can be scary as well since it makes you feel like your job may be at risk in the future too. I hope that this is the only round that needs to take place and that everyone who lost their job will find a new one quickly.

Jennifer
The Thai food sounds very yummy!!!!

Have a great day!

Hello :) No workout yesterday. Spinning the day before wiped my legs completely out. I did try to do a workout. Well I actually tried to start a couple, but it was clear to me right away that it was a bad idea and I needed to rest. Even the tiny bits of workouts that I did seemed to strain my right hip flexor. It's already 100 times better today, so I think I will be fine to do STS M1 D3 Legs tomorrow.

Today was M1 D1 Chest, Shoulders, Biceps. LOVED IT!! I have my room set up in 'stations' so the equip changes aren't too bad and I can get through them pretty quick. I did find that I needed to lower my weights for some things from what WM was suggesting. It had me at a 30# barbell for bicep curls. I could have done that(I've done it before), but I wouldn't have been able to do ALL the exercises, so I lowered it. I really wanted to be able to do all reps of everything for the entire workout and then increase from there. I think my weights are spot on for that. I feel comfortable going up slowly from there :) I also think I've decided to do the 5 month rotation. The thought of increasing so quickly is a bit scary to me and I think I would enjoy it more if I felt like I mastered a workout before moving on. Besides...this will keep me from feeling like I have to buy BB ;)

I missed responding to your question about my triceps being sore(sorry :( ). Lately I've noticed that I don't get DOMS  What I've noticed is that I will feel wiped out the day of the workout. I'll recover a few hours later and then I'm fine the next day. I'll have a slow burn in my muscles and that's it. Not sure if that's good or bad, but I am happy with my muscle development so I'm not complaining.

And Happy BDay to DS!!!

Jennifer
Can you tell me your favorite butt exercises from the book you are reading? I want to add some glute work to my UB days of STS. Maybe 10-15 minutes. I'm having some success sliming down and I do not want to loose my booty :) So I'm still working on building one

Stacie
Bring your child to work day sounds fun!! I hope everything goes well!!

Please take your time with all the life events that you have going. I hope things ease up soon for you. See you when you return :)

Tasha
Shhhhhhhhhh!! You keep mentioning more equipment I MUST buy...hehe!! I really think I would benefit from that EZ bar. And I think I'm going to ask for BB for Christmas :) I want to see how I like my results from STS first. And I want to spend some time with Cathe's new leg workouts!! I'm really excited about those, so January sounds about right to start a new three month rotation of something. Did you have to buy any additional equipment?

Hi everyone :)

Yesterday's w/o was BB Cardio + Abs. It's TTOTM for me and I was feeling very tired going into the workout. I didn't do so well, but I gave it my best anyway. Today will be a rest day but I'm hoping to spend some hours outside. It looks like a lovely spring day.

I'm SO sorry to hear about the lay-offs :(. Come back whenever you are ready.

Stacie
I'm not that happy about the weight loss. I guess it wouldn't be such a bad thing if it actually came off in the right places . My chest is small enough :(.
Did you have fun on Take Your Kids To Work Day? What a way to combine the two most annoying things in the world :p;).
BTW, have you made any recipes from Protein P(o)W yet? Protein powder is such a pain to cook with . And it can turn out pretty yucky too .

Jennifer
Regarding the muscle def, ya I have notice a little more (mostly in my obliques and arms). I'm thinking that's a good thing, right?
I'm sorry to hear about your shoulder :(. I hope you recover very quickly.
OMG Thai food is my fav :p. Whenever MArk and I go to a Thai restaurant, we go all out . Have you ever had a Lychee Martini?
Thanks for the info about the cardio + strength training. You made me think...with STS I was doing cardio up to 3X/week. It's funny cuz' I'm only on week 3 of BB and seeing better results than I ever did with STS. Perhaps the cardio worked against me?

Toni
Glad to see you loved STS D1 :). Great idea about the "stations"! I forgot to mention that BB is very heavily split with weight work (I'm doing 1-2 body parts/day). Unless you like to split up your weight training like that, you might prefer STS. I absolutely LOVE weight training (more so than cardio, circuits, ect.) so this program screamed my name. Make sure it's a program you would really be interested in before you take the plunge.
Except for the EZ bar, I have not needed to buy any additional equipment.

Have an awesome day ladies!

Hi fit and fabs,
This morning was Glutes again and I had my myo-massage so I'm really looking forward to BurnSets tomorrow! By the way, I noticed during the massage that it really seems as though new musculature has popped out some in my glutes as well as in my abs! I have been doing more ab work and definitely have seen at least a 4-pack.

Toni,
Nice job on the weight selection! I agree, and most of the time I choose to do at least 12 reps rather than go with a heavier weight and only do 8 or so.

The glutes program has a variety of exercises and they go in a particular order on particular days so that the variety of exercises don't interfere with each other and they hit all various/surrounding muscles. 3 sets of 20 each. For example, workout A - Hip thrusts (3 setsx20), then full range of motion squats (I like the Between-Bench squats with a 25# dumbbell), then back extensions, then clams. Workouts B and C have a similar format (hip dominant, glute dominant, quad dominant, etc). I'll post more specifically when I do B and C again.

Tash,
Way to push yourself! Giving your workout your best shot; something is better than nothing.

Congrats on your obliques and arms! Very nice;) I do think that less cardio does help the muscles build. Had I not been experiencing it myself I don't know that it would have worked for me!

My shoulders feel better, the chiro and myo-massage really was what I needed. Thanks:)

I hope you get to enjoy your day!

Stacie,
How did Tyler like going to work with you?

Great job with PUB! That workout is a workout just putting away the weights. I love it!

Sorry to cut out so quickly - gotta run. Chat with ya' later!
