Push It

Good morning ladies! Friday's workout was short...XT Core #2 plus Tricep burn sets. Saturday was a rest day that I think I really needed. Yesterday I also slept a ton. I think all those late night caught up to me. Last night was XT CBS and I felt soooo much stronger after the rest day and getting some sleep. My neighbor is doing great too...the weights she uses is creeping up which is awesome. She is even doing all the pushups which is good even though they are all tabletop. One funny story though is there is this part where Cathe says "This is serious weight training. We're not using 12lbs here unless that is what challenges you." My neighbor was only using 10lbs so she actually flipped Cathe the bird. I cracked up at that...you have no idea the things she yells at the TV sometimes.

We still haven't made up our minds about karate yet. Tyler still kinda says he wants to quit but it's more because he is worried about the red belt level. He is nervous that he will not be able to learn all of the old forms. In order to move from red to black, they have to know all the forms from white and on up.

I tried the chicken recipe fit44 posted and it was pretty tasty. Unfortunately, my little guy protested that it wasn't his normal chicken. Even though I liked it, I don't know if it will become a standard dish in our home because of Mr. Picky.

Natasha
Some people are absolutely clueless but pregnancy and what things can affect a child. It's horrible that in the end it's the child that will suffer. At this point, we can only hope and pray that the baby makes it through all this mistreatment of it's health without any serious effects. I have to say though that unfortunately for the baby, this is probably the start down a long and bumpy road since it looks like these two are definitely not going to up for the best parent award any time soon.

I can't believe little Bella is already going to kindergarten! It's amazing how quickly they grow up!

Toni
Great decision on getting Rushfit...I know what you mean about exercise ADD. I still have some systems I need open and use.

How exciting to get two new cars! It sounds like you two are getting some good models too. I like how you both compromised so that you could both get what you needed!

Jennifer
We have oat flour at the health food stores here but I have been using ground up oatmeal. I read online that's it's the same thing. I think it's 1.25 cups of oatmeal to make 1 cup of oat flour.

That's awesome that you are a personal trainer! No wonder you know so much about body mechanics and such.

I'm so sorry about the wrist. I can't even imagine having to have surgery. Do you think it will be this year?

HeartyMax
How wonderful that you and hubby at a nice night out! And I'm jealous of the margaritas! I haven't had one in ages...Mango sounds extra good too!

Have a great day everyone!

It's Monday again :) Today was CBS + 100 RC scarecrows. I am in love with that workout. I love that there are no repeats. I just keeps moving from exercise to exercise. And I love the exercises. I was able to up my weights on almost all moves, which was nice. And I really must have needed the little bit of extra rest yesterday because I felt totally refreshed today and felt very strong in the workout. I did the scarecrows with 3#. I think I did it with 2# last time. The 3# was very challenging, but I did all of them. Man were my muscles hot after that!! Which lets me know that was right right weight. Which also lets me know I need to up the weight on my other 100 RCs because I haven't quite got that same heat with the rest of them. I have Bi and hip thrusts left this week, so I'll do 18# with the Bi and 25# with the hip thrusts

Made my first green smoothie in the vitamix. OMG...it's AWESOME!! They are so good and I immediately want more :) And the funny thing is they make me want water!! They are so refreshing that following them up with water just makes sense. This is all goodness for me because I have a hard time getting water in my body anyway. This one has spinach, pineapple, banana, and grapes. I'll try a different one next week :)

Stacie
I totally understand about yellng at the TV during workouts  I've been known to do that as well :)

HeartyMax
30# hip thrusts...OMG. I'm hoping to get there by the end of my 12 week rotation, but I have much work to do.

Toni---I wasn't sure what weight I should start with when I did the hip thrusts so I just used a 30. I didn't get to a 100 but mostly because I spend so much time focusing on whether my form is correct. I like the way it makes my hamstrings feel. Maybe I should try the moves on the stability ball like in Butts and Gutts and do 100 reps of that:D. Congrats on the new cars.

DH neice who is in her 20's started to workout. She is doing Weider for strength training and looking for some beginner cardio workouts. I am not sure if she has space for a step or is interested in step. She is doing Turbo Jam and taebo and wants something else for a change. I am not sure what to recommend. Some people on her FB page recommended Turbo Fire and Insanity but those workouts are very advanced and hard on the knees. I was thinking of suggesting JM because I just don't consider her workouts to be too advanced. Can you recommend something that doesn't have a lot of equipement to start out with but is good. would you recommend Turbo Fire?

My workout today was CBS and Core#2 since I forgot to do the core yesterday:D. Core#2 really gets those obliques.

Hello ladies :)

My w/o on Sunday was Tabatacise (all 5 rounds!). Beforehand I ate a date rolled in coconut. Perfect fuel for intense cardio. I still deem 40/20 the hardest cardio Cathe has ever produced. Yesterday was my day off. Today's workout is XT BS C/B/S.

Thanks everyone for your understanding about my feelings with...that woman (I call her some pretty harsh names). I've been really upset about this whole situation since I found out about 6 months ago. I had envisioned that when my DH's best friend got married and had children, that we would all be one big happy family together. I adamantly told Mark that I do not want them in my life OR in my daughter's life. I refuse to expose my family to such "trash". That woman has no respect for herself, her unborn child, oh and her two other kids who have no baby daddies .

Heartymax
LOL, I will never recommend Turbo Fire because I am not a fan of Chalene :D. There is a lady at my other check-in who loves her stuff. I will ask her. Besides that I think JM Banish Fat Boost Metabolism is a great cardio w/o.
Bob Harper has some great ones too IMO: Ultimate Cardio Body and Cardio Rev Conditioning. All require little space and no/low weights (2-3lbs).

Toni
Congrats on the new cars! I heard the new Ford's are really good, reliable, vehicles.
Your smoothie sounded delish :p. Glad you enjoyed it :).

Jennifer
Glad to hear your back and knee are better :).
I really enjoyed reading about how you got started in the fitness industry. How incredibly fascinating :). I'm so sorry to hear about your wrist though :(. The way you push out those hard w/o's, you would never be able to tell that you were injured at any point in your life. I admire that :).

Stacie
How awesome that your neighbor is progressing! You are SO good for encouraging her and sticking with it.
Glad you caught up on some much needed sleep :).
I was going to make that chicken this w/e, but DH said he didn't want the greek yogurt on top .

Have a fabulous day ladies!

Good morning!

My upper body is mostly recovered from Burn Sets; yesterday was Cardio Legs; today was the Extreme Cardio All Out Hiit... I know I am going to be feeling those two workouts tomorrow especially since I sort of felt Cardio Legs during All Out. I haven't done any challenges since Triceps but am planning to do the glue thrust and rear delt challenges over the weekend.

Stacie,
cool - I was wondering if I could crush up oatmeal to get oat flour and you answered my question - thank you! I'll try that next time. I also think I might use OJ instead of water and then leave out the sweetener altogether. Any thoughts on that? Sure, it'd add calories and add a bit of orange flavor to the lemon but I'm okay with that.

It is awesome that she is getting so much stronger - I'm so happy for both of you! What a riot that your neighbor flipped her the bird! I remember Cathe saying the 12# thing, too... now I have an extra visual to put into that phrase:D

The wrist surgery/teaching was years ago; I don't need another wrist surgery:)

Heartymax,
30# hip thrusts is awesome, 100Reps or not. As long as you felt it, and you did:) Besides, if I remember correctly, you got farther this time with the 30# than you did last time?! I like doing the hip thrusts on the stability ball; it's more comfortable for me. If you try it that way let me know what you think!

Maybe your friend would like to try some Jazzercise or something? She could check out Collage video and search for workouts by category. They have great descriptions of each workout and a small video clip.

I have Turbo Jam and Turbo Fire but I don't like to do them. I used to really like Turbo Jam, but when Turbo Fire came out I was tired of all the jumping and frankly just preferred Cathe's workouts all the way around. I don't remember Chalene really cuing very well, and the moves are too fast to be safe and effective in my opinion.

Yep - Bi's/Tri's 100RC will be next week for sure; I should be back on the proper rotation schedule for upper body.

Toni,
My gosh woman - 100RC with 17# biceps curls? That is amazing!
Very nice job on the 3# scarecrows; they do build the fire, don't they? I'm sure you'll get it with the bi's and thrusts.

The green smoothie sounds wonderful! How interesting that it made you want water, but I can see how that makes sense; I guess:confused:

Congrats on the new cars and the smart budgeting! I love crossovers - one of these days I'll have one big enough for our horse dogs.

Tash,
All 5 rounds?! that's awesome! Your pre-workout snack sounded perfect - and perfectly yummy:D

So how did the baby shower go? And that is disappointing... to think that you'd all be one big happy family but this woman seems to have a lot of growing up to do - hopefully before it's too late... if she even can grow up! Some people just are who they are. So sad:(

I best get back to work - have an awesome day!

The topics in the OD board are a bit heated today. First time I've seen that here  Anywho...today was MMA Fusion. My second time with that workout. I felt much stronger and coordinated in the workout today. And I felt like I got some much needed core work.

Tasha
I haven't tried Tabatacised yet. I think it will be a while before I do. I may try one of the tabatas before an upperbody workout here and there. I'll have to see. I'm glad to see you are doing well with them.

HeartyMax
I've wathed the clips for both Turbo Jam and Turbo Fire. Everytime I see the clips I think to myself, I am NOT doing that move. They just don't look like my style.

Hi everyone :)

Yesterday's w/o was XT BS C/B/S + 100RC Scarecrows. I went lighter in my #'s than I typically would, as I was unsure how my shoulder would hold up. For the scarecrows, I used my 2lbs gloves. I think I can up that to 3lbs next time, but I heard of some people getting injured so I chose to go lighter. Because of very frigid temps, I was not able to get my walk in, so I did a 2 mile Leslie walk/jog in the evening.

Great DOMS today :D.

Jennifer
Burn Sets and All Out has also given me some surprising DOMS.
The baby shower went exactly as I expected  thank you for asking. I just basically stuck to my table, and that was it. I ate too may carbs  that's why I chose to do Tabatacise beforehand :D.

Toni
I really like the MMA's :D. Fusion get's in the core very nicely.
Tabatacise is all high impact pounding cardio. It get's the job done  but for someone with tweaky knee's and back, I would not recommend it weekly. I won't be pulling that one out again for another month or so.

Happy hump day to you all :)

I came back to ask if anyone has ever made Jerk Chicken Legs w/Peas in the slow cooker??? I made that yesterday, and HOLY YUM :p, heaven on a plate does exist. For the "peas" I used black eyed peas, but I have had traditional Jamaican Cuisine where they use Red Kidney beans. I placed the finished product over some rice (how can you not? ;)) and added some thinly sliced sauteed Kale. Gotta have my veggies :p. Bella was so cute, she said the chicken legs were "soft" (as in tender). She even ate the Kale, which I'm happy about :). LOL, as you can obviously tell, I'm all for ethnic cuisine :p:D.

Have a good day!

Happy afternoon!
I skipped this morning and will go to Ripped tonight. With all the New Year's Resolution people floor space in the group ex room is fairly limited.

One of my friends sent an email picture that read (Joke):
If I had a gym I would call it Resolutions. The first two weeks it would have gym equipment and the rest of the year it would be a bar.
That's about the truth of how the Resolutioners work out; it always is crowded the first few weeks and then it tapers off.

I have no idea what kind of heat I missed in the OD this time around but I have witnessed some pretty heated topics... as heated as politics and religion!

I forgot to mention this before; I had a fun dream the other night. All I can remember about it is that I flexed my biceps and they looked a baseball was stuffed in them! The shape, I mean, not an actual baseball (that would be gross). What a strange dream!

I watched a FB clip of the Heavy Bag Tabata - I am interested in doing it even without a heavy bag! It wouldn't be quite the same but it would be a nice add-on to Hard Strikes I think. I'll let you know how it goes after I do it although I'm not real sure when that will be yet.

Tash,
i LOVE jerk chicken and rice! Your recipe looks great. I still need to do the fish/curry one:eek: It's awesome that Bella even ate the kale:D

Nice job on the scarecrow challenge; I think you were wise to chose 2lbs especially since you did the BS C/B/S workout. Did your shoulders make any noises during the scarecrow? both mine sure do so I have to play with my arm position a bit.

It was nice of you to go to the shower at all; keeping to your table and enjoying some carbs post-tabatacise was a good way to go.

I hope everyone is staying warm, healthy, and fit!

Good morning :)

Yesterday's w/o was XT Legs (standing+floor). I was feeling strong so I upped my weights considerably from what Cathe was using. I used 1x15lbs for the walking lunges. For the plie squats w/the ball, I used 25lbs (ooohh it burns!). For the one where you "shave" the area between your knee and ankle with the weight, Cathe used a 5lbs and I used an 8lbs. This is the first leg workout where I kinda question Cathe's weight selections. I personally think, since she is THE QUEEN of legs/glutes, that she could have went considerably higher. The floor work is a doozy . I love how it really gets into the glutes.

Jennifer
LOL about the resolutions :D. Mark always says that the gym is jam packed in Jan, but it always proves to be short-lived.
Isn't it funny when you have those random weird dreams? :D
Yes, I was looking at the heavy weight tabata too. I also think it would be a nice add-on, even without the bag. Let me know how it turns out .
And yes, my shoulder's WERE making noises! I thought it was just me . What could that be exactly?

Have a good day :)

I didn't feel that great yesterday morning so i didn't workout. Feeling fine this morning and school is closed due to inclement weather. Therefore, instead of doing Bi's and Tri's which was scheduled for yesterday, I did Legs and Reardelts for an 80 minute workout since I was only time restrictions today. This was my first time doing it and I like it. Tasha---because everyone has been talking about Cathe's weight selection in this workout, I went ahead and increased my weights also. I used 12lbs for the walking lunges. I used 15 lbs for the plie wall squats----I need to go heavier so I will definitely do that next time. I also used 15 lbs for the one legged dead lifts which is about right because I would use one 30lb in the other workouts or two 30lbs if I am doing regular deadlifts. I can't remember what weight Cathe used but it was just too light. I understand that Cathe may not want to exhaust the legs too much with heavy weights with the combination of barre, stability ball and floor work added----but the standing leg exercises are short and I just don't think that would happened. I do like this workout and I think it is perfect for someone who doesn't have alot of equipment. It may be one that I share with a colleagues because all she will need is a few weights.

Tasha---wanna share that recipe? Sounds good. I actually cooked Kale for the first time on Sunday. I usually cooked collards or turnips and have never cooked Kale. I like it and plan to have it more often.

Jennifer---yep! I bet the Gym is going to be clearing out soon.

Is it Friday yet?! Nope - one more day:rolleyes:

I didn't make it to Ripped last night after all but I made up for it today - I was missing Afterburn so I went for that one; I just the need for some cardio, weights, low-impact, and high intensity.

Afterwards I pulled out Turbo Barr and did the brief Fire Walker Loop segment just to really hit the hams and glutes... it was just the right amount of time as an add-on. Plus, I'm saving the "real" leg workout for Saturday (XT Legs/Rear delts).

Heartymax,
I'm sure both you and the kids are happy to be home from school today!
we are supposed to be getting sleet and ice tonight and into tomorrow - I'm hoping they close the office tomorrow but they are VERY conservative regarding inclement weather. A lot of people just use a vacation day if they really want to stay at home - and that's fine for the people who don't have a deadline that day; I actually do have one tomorrow but I've asked the Managing Editor if she thinks we can wrap it up today.

Yes, I saw the 80-minute workout on tap and knew right away that it would have to wait until the weekend (or tomorrow if the office is closed). Thank you (and Natasha) for mentioning that you both went heavier with the weight selection. I don't think I've done that part of the workout yet.

Speaking of your colleagues, Travel Fit doesn't use a lot of equipment. I can't give you a review because I think I've only done it once... not sure why, though.

Tash,
The ugly pops from the shoulders, as long as it doesn't hurt, is supposedly okay according to the Massage Therapist Specialist. She says it's the ligaments crossing over the joint; tight pec muscles strain the shoulder and prevents the joint from proper mobility (she said that was my deal). She was referring to the Pop she hears when she stretches out my arm.

For me I hear grinding; based on the MT's thoughts I'm guessing that ugly noise could be cartilage and sticky fascia, as well as ligaments... I'm sorry I really don't know the answer; the massage therapist has a Masters degree so I tend to go with her theory which leads me to my theory just because it makes sense. I know that Bone-on-Bone hurts so as long as there is no acute pain then we are okay.

My preference during scarecrows, however, is to keep my arms/shoulders in a position where they can mostly avoid that ugly noise - for me that place is with my arms more in front than out to the sides. And if you remember Cathe's workouts, she always shows the more joint-friendly way to do a shoulder press is with her arms to the front instead of to the side. SSOOOO... that's all I know but I hope it helps!

Gotta get for now - enjoy your day!

Super quick post today...our deadline was yesterday and a couple of my tasks didn't make it despite my working a ton of hours. I am supposed to be working on them today. I am so tired for staying up super late working. Anyway, Monday night was Basic Step + core, Tuesday night was Supercuts, and last night was just a 2 mile walk. I tried to get some sleep last night but I woke up after just a couple of hours of sleep because Tyler had snuck out of bed in the middle of the night and was playing the WII. I sent him back to bed but just couldn't fall back asleep. Needless to say, I am not a happy camper with him and grounded from the WII until the weekend.

Have a great day everyone!

Hello :) Yesterday was Legs + Rear Delts. Today was BS Bi/Tri + 100 RC Bi. I was not feeling as strong in the biceps today, but I felt like I worked by Tris well.

I am super duper excited....The Lion King is coming to my city this summer!!!! I am def getting tickets!! Going to take my kids and maybe hubby will go, we will see.

I see the OD forum drama is still going strong <scratches head>. I don't really get it, but I'll leave it at that.

Have to run...back tomorrow for personals.

Xtrain Biceps and Triceps and Core 1 followed by the 100 rep challenge for the biceps. I used 10 lbs dumbells and that was perfect for me. Cathe's person ( I can't remember the new girls name) was using a 25lb barbell. I prefer dumbells when doing biceps.

Toni---I don't read the OD forum very much. I did notice someone asking for marital advice and that was an interesting one--but I definitely wasn't chiming in on all those opinions.

Has any of you gone on a road trip? I see Cathe has announced the NJ trip and I know it is normally the last weekend of July. I told DH that I am going to try to register when it opens. I heard it is nightmare race trying to get signed up. I don't usually make trips alone so if I get it I can convince the family to make a weekend sightseeing trip nearby:D or I will have to get the nerve to catch the train and make the trip by myself.

Hi everyone :)

Yesterday I was at Walmart and scored an Everlast 2pk tubing + jump rope set for less than $20. I was hoping at least one of the tubing would be appropriate for Xtrain -- it was :D. All my tubing were the wrong size, and because they are super old, getting little rips in them. I needed replacements anyway ;).

I tried to do Imax3 yesterday, but I was just so darn tired (TTOTM). I did about 15min and then switch to the XT Low Impact Hiit step+disc portion.

For anyone wanting the Jerk Chicken Legs w/peas in the crock pot recipe, I like to use this recipe base:
GRACE - Genuine Caribbean Taste

-Instead of chicken breast, I use thighs or legs w/bone. I find the meat is SO much more tender (and cheaper!).
-Instead of cooking it in the oven, I use my crock pot and put it on low for 5hrs-6hrs.
-You can quickly brown the chicken in a pan or in the oven first to give it a nice golden color. Do not cook all the way through.
-I throw in black eye peas (or red kidney) in the crock pot along with the chicken.
-Serve over any type of rice and veggies.
CAUTION:HIGHLY ADDICTIVE AND VERY TASTY!!!! You might want to book a flight to Jamaica after having tried this :p.

Toni
Ohhh, I would love to go to see a Disney Play! I think Bella would love it now. Hope you get the tickets!
I try to stay away from any OD with controversy and drama. I have not posted there or the marital one. I have read the responses and "liked" a few, but that's about it. It got very heated at some points .

Heartymax
I hope you go to the NJ RT!!! Finger's crossed you get in!!!
No RT's for me :(. But I might be going to Cuba this year . If so, this will be my 7th time visiting there :).

Jennifer

Holy Afterburn + TB firewalker loop segment! That's sounds like a real leg workout to me ;).
Yes, the noise was a popping one with no pain. Thank you so much for the info! It was very helpful and appreciated :).

Stacie
Sorry about Tyler and all the stress going on right now :(. Hope things settle down for you soon.

Good afternoon!
I decided to take today off; I thought we were going to get ice and sleet but it turns out we're not (today). I'm going to make use of my day and de-clutter the house big time. One of the local animal shelters always appreciates newspapers, old towels and blankets so I'm glad it's not icy out for my drive there. Plus there's a lot of other stuff that I just need to part with... I always think "but I might want it some day" but I realize that if it's been years and that day never comes then I just need to find another home for it or trash it.

This week's rotation didn't work out very well for me so I ended up doing PUB this morning. I've gotten stronger in most muscle groups since the last time I did that workout (yay!) but my shoulders and biceps just didn't seem to budge:confused: Maybe next time. The weekend will be a cardio and Legs+rear delts weekend.

Tash,
LOL! I have taken note that I may need to go to Jamaica! I agree with you on the chicken breast versus thighs... thighs are way more flavorful. I can see how the crock-pot would make the meat just fall right off the bone! I just took out some thighs to thaw so we will be having that this weekend - thanks! By the way (sort of), I really hope you get to go to Cuba again!

Yep; my hamstrings especially are sore. It did turn out to be a real leg workout after all! I'm thinking I'll have to push the legs/rear delts to Sunday from Saturday.

Way to snatch up those new bands! Sounds like you definitely needed some replacements so the timing worked out very well:cool:

15min of Imax3 then switching to low impact sounds like a good mix/match even if it's not TTOTM:)

I'm glad your shoulder doesn't hurt, and I'm glad I was able to give you some information:)

Heartymax,
I am excited for you about the RT! I hope your family goes with you, but if not you totally should just do it:) I haven't been to one but really want to - almost did a few years ago but then had to cancel. I really thought I would get to go this year but my mom wants us to go to Montana to visit family in June; that trip is going to drain my finances:( I'm hoping to get to Glacier National Park while we're there but I'm not even sure that will happen.

Nice job on the Bi/Tri 100RC Bi workout! I'm glad your weight selection was perfect:)

I saw that marital advice topic as well but I didn't even read it, actually. Sounds like there is a lot going on in it!

Stacie,
Sorry about your deadline but I know it wasn't for lack of trying!
And Tyler - geesh! I think you handled it very well, as hard as I'm sure it was.

Glad you were able to do a few workouts this week and I hope you get some more rest!

Have a super day!

Good afternoon ladies! Last night was a short workout -- just Burnsets Bis and Tris. I was having a super weak day so it was a bit of bummer. I blame it on being so tired though so I am not worrying about it too much. Today hasn't been the best day at work, our boss was angry at us because he was up all night trying to fix issues for the big build today. One of them was mine which just caused a scathing email to go out to the team :mad:. The mistake I made is a common one and the first time I have broken the build but they are super upset today because everyone is exhausted and it was the important build.

Jennifer
Good luck on the decluttering and I am glad it's not icy too! I think the ice is way more dangerous than the snow.

Natasha
Hooray for new bands! I was able to snag some a month ago from Marshalls. Do you have Marshalls there? They are so awesome for fitness stuff. Next in line would probably be Ross or Walmart!

HeartyMax
Congrats on getting to go to the road trip! I think Cathe posted once that even though it feels up quickly usually everyone who is on the waitlist winds up being able to go. It sounds so nice but I don't think it's in the cards for me again this year :(.

Toni
I heard the Lion King was really good! I hope you get to go to the show.
The drama did get a little crazy in the OD. I honestly hope no one leaves the forum over it but it might be too late.

Sigh...back to the sweat shop. I told my coworkers that they should make t-shirts for us that say "I survived <insert our project name> and all I got was this stupid t-shirt.". ;)

Happy Saturday! Just finshed my 45 minutes on the elliptical (in place of Ride).

Stacie--Sorry for the bummer day at work. It must be stressful to get blamed for a work related glitch. I hope they are just as eager to praiser you when things are top notch.

Tasha--What a grea deal on the bands.

Jennifer--I am keeping my out for the details of the RT announcement to see if will be able to go.
