Good morning,

Yesterday was agility class, no workout.

Valerie, I can surely understand why you would not want to stay in a campground for an extended period. Since you love the area, and have land, why not build something more permanent? I also love crossword puzzle, but have not ever tried the NY Times one. Way too frustrating for me. I buy those large print ones in the Dollar Tree stores...:). It is true that it seems like pit bull and pit mixes are the prevalent breed in shelters now.

Diane Sue, it is rare that we see a loose dog here...if we do, it is because it has gotten out of its house or yard. Once in a great while someone will be walking multiple dogs, and one of them is walking without a leash. One of our neighbors does this, hiis 2nd dog is leashed but he lets the leash dangle so the dog is running free. This dog is a terror! Runs and charges other dogs, barking the whole time. We have had "words" with him while walking our dogs in the morning and we run into him...he is a jerk. We reminded him of the leash laws, he grumbled something nasty back, we couldn't understand over the loud barking of his unleashed dog. Once after that, he saw us coming and hurriedly picked up the leash so I think he felt guilty...but not enough to keep the leash in his hand the whole time. I hate LED lights! John insisted on buying a bunch when we had now lights installed. We both have a floor lamp near where we sit to read, I took mine out and put a regular bulb back in.

Carolyn, mm...Muscle Max...another great workout!

Caitlin, nice workouts...especially waling those hills. you can probably find out how to change the batteries on YouTube.

A workout, then more Housemax for me....

Take care,

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did a Spinerval and today I think we are going to the gym later.

Deb-we don't see too many loose dogs here. One time I was running and saw a pit bull type dog running down the street. He didn't act aggressive but I made a turn and was able to go in a different direction. I also called the township and reported it from my cell phone. I have pepper spray but have never had to use it. Not sure how much it would help.

Diane Sue-That was horrible what that poor woman went through. There have been several people attacked and killed by dogs, mostly pit bulls, in this area over the past 10 years that I have lived here. When I was still in Iowa one of my running friends was attacked by a pit bull and ended up in the hospital. Fortunately she recovered and got right back to running.

Valerie-I agree, it does seem that the primary dog breed in the shelters is pit bull and pit mixes. I would be very hesitant to adopt a pit bull or even a mix. There have just been too many bad things happen involving these dogs. I have no doubt that there are many gentle and non aggressive ones whose owners are very happy with them, but I just would not take the risk.

Carolyn-Muscle Max is another favorite of mine.

Lori-The SB Total Barre looks good, I previewed it last night. I need to try to fit that in this week. So many workouts and so little time..

Caitlin-Good luck with your HRM battery. The Polar site should have some information on what battery you need and like Deb said, youtube should have some videos on it. I change the batteries in my Garmin, but have never done it on a Polar.

Judy

No workout today. We have been working on our remodel and have to make a trip to Home Depot. Yesterday by the end of day I had 12,545 steps. Yesterday by the end of the day My Fitness Pal gave me back a plus of 230 calories on their adjustment for my steps which made my calorie total on exercise 874. I found that interesting. I did a lot of trying to clean up dust last night when the boys removed the ceramic tile form the kitchen, bath and entry. I am going to be busy today and we want to refinish the molding around the baseboards. I think that may be my job. I got To The Mat in the mail yesterday, but no time to look at it right now.

Deb, I have some off leash training leads that I used for training Gertie. They do not have handles. I only used them in out yard which was large at the time and in the house. I used the 15 foot one so I could step on it and top her if she didn't obey a command and tried to take off. I used a shorter one inside for easier correction. There was a man in one of our residential areas that always walked his dogs with leashes dragging the ground and him not holding on. His dogs never seemed aggressive. The same neighborhood had a loose dog everyone called Gus that hung around. He would come and watch me when I worked in the flower beds. I am always wary of loose dogs wandering around.

Judy, I would never adopt a pit bull myself. I do know someone that did Pit Bull Rescue. Hers always seemed fine. She did not have children which I think made it okay. I definitely would not do something like that with children around. That is terrible that your friend was attacked while running. I see loose dogs around here quite a bit. Next door neighbor always posts about awareness of loose dogs here. One day I drove up in my drive and saw the woman next door had put her little white doggie on a tie out by the front garage. I am unsure why she does this because she has a small back yard like we do. She leaves her garage door open halfway and a rug in the garage so it can go inside if it wants. This is not done on a daily basis though. Anyway, two large dogs had come up and were harassing the small dog and she was trying to get rid of them. When they saw me the started my way and she was able to close her garage door and get her dog to safety. I waited for them to leave and sat in my car before I opened my garage door. She still ties her little dog out there once in awhile. I would have thought that she would quit.

Carolyn, if you look at the Polar site you can pull up your watch model and find help for your particular watch. They have always been good answering questions for me and even sent me a new strap for my Bluetooth connector. They said the strap wears out and needs changed every few months. I thought that was a bit crazy. I had some older straps that lasted years and worked fine.

Hello Everyone,
Today is a rest day. The weather has finally started to look and feel like spring and we are trying to take advantage of it. We have a few small outdoor projects to take care of. Diane Sue, it's wonderful that you have family members to help with the remodeling. It sounds like a lot of work.

Deb, you mentioned your doubts about the new workouts using the original tower. I hope they will work fine because that's what I will be using. I might number the holes to take away some of the guessing for placement of the bar.

I hope you are all having a wonderful day.

Hello to all the wonderful ladies. I know it is not the battery of my Polar, as I have it on now, and it is stating my heart rate. I think it goes to 0
when I move around too much, as I do when working out. Today is a rest day, and I overdid yesterday. It was over an hour of hill walking, and then I did Chiseled Lower Body Blast which has cardio in it. Good luck with the remodeling, Diane Sue. I am resting now.

Good afternoon ladies,

Yesterday I did Power Jump 47 and I was done in when it was over and did not feel the need to continue with another workout. 49 mins / 483 cal. Total steps for the day was 14,210. Jumping really accumulates the steps! Today was a few workouts combined. I started out with a Youtube Tracey Mallet called Dumbell workout. It was only 6 mins. I then did several of SB bounce workouts...Cardio from her dvd and then 2 from her streaming. Finished off with another Youtube workout from Popsugar called 20 min Flat Belly and Toned Arm workout. I really liked it and will do it again. The link is below should you want to check it out. Total time was 65 mins / 406 cal. It is so beautiful here I immediatly took GiGi for a walk and she went for her first swim. She hesitate for a second but then went right in. She loved it and would have continued but I knew the water had to have been freezing! We walked 2.5 miles for another 303 cals. Nice! It is 4:30pm so can't wait to see what my final steps end up. Right now I am at 13,525!

Here is the Popsugar workout...

And here is GiGi's swim... :)

Diane Sue....such a sad story. Horrible. Amazing workout..an hour and 47 mins! Good for you!

Valerie...I am very much like you with lights on at night. I read on my Ipad while in bed and it does not bother me at all. Once I put it away then no lights anywhere! No matter how little it needs to be blocked. My husband recently bough me one of those eye covers that you sleep in and I actually love it. I laughed at first and took me a few days before I tried it out. Does the trick.

Carolyn...glad the meeting went well.

Deb...you should be fine with the new workouts from what I read. I am looking forward to them. I just hope I continue to do them. I was excited for Strong and Sweaty and Ice, yet never do them.

Caitlin...Good you found one on Amazon for a great price. I love amazon.

Judy...I finnished up SB's Detox Challenge this week. Her Spring one starts on the 17th and I am sure I will start.. Her website has past challenges and I found the 2 week booty blast. Going to do this for a week to hold me over!

Have a great evening all!

Good morning,

No workout yesterday, got busy with house stuff, then was starving so I ate breakfast, and that did it.

Judy, that is scary about you running and seeing a loose pit bull.

Diane Sue, it sounds like the remodel is coming along well. Nice that you have help from your grandsons.

Carolyn, good idea to number the holes. When I used the old one before, I had a little post it note telling me how many holes to count for placement of the clips depending on what the exercise was. Numbering them would be better. I hope one of the Cathletes will do a "conversion" so our numbered holes will match the height etc of the new Tower ones.

Caitlin, that is how my HRM works when one of the batteries is getting low....it works sort of, then goes to zero..etc.

Lori, thanks for posting the link. I will put this on my YouTube watch list. Love the video of GiGi's first swim! She loved it! That water had to be pretty cold.

A workout, then going to help my cousin list some stuff on his new Ebay store.

Take care,

Deb, that was our thinking. we like to do things in the rockies but did not like the hassle of camping especially during the busy season. we decided to spend the money and build a place so we could enjoy doing what we like.
we have a mix of the fluorescent twisty bulbs and leds. I don't think you can even buy incandescents anymore. I'm fine with them but they are bright don't work everywhere. we have a lot of recessed can lights and they work well there, maybe because they are not right in your face.
we have issues with peoples dogs running loose. Hikers do it all the time in the mountains, just let their dogs go off leash. so inconsiderate! I've been snarled at more than once usually the owners are clueless. we had a strange dog jump into the front seat of our car once and grab our lunch while we were putting on our boots behind the car.
we used to run all the time with our dog and got used to carrying Halt spray with us. I sprayed an aggressive dog once. trust me, it works. we carry bear spray on some bike rides. being chased down by some big loose dogs while on a bike in a rural area is darn scary. yes, several dogs will do things a single dog alone would not do. we stick a can of spray in a bottle carrier so it's right on the bike frame. if it will stop a grizzly, it will stop a german shepherd or a pit bull. DH and I have accidentally sprayed ourselves so we know how awful it is! we would never use it frivolously, but if a dog was charging me, I would not hesitate.

we did a short hike yesterday with cousin and wife. they mean to "get in shape" but don't do anything consistently. went out to lunch after. they haven't ridden their bikes since last fall, and claim they are going to the gym more often but it doesn't look like it. we would like to do more with them but we need to baby sit them .
Lori I have plenty of cathe workouts I never use. if I buy a series and use several, not all of workouts , it's money well spent. for years I never looked at the premixes. not sure what I was thinking. it's such a good way to ease into a workout that at first look is too hard or too long or has some "dreaded" moves. . I bought several high step workouts but never enjoyed them much.

Today was RWH Low Impact HiiT One. I like both One And Two, but this one is my favorite.

Valerie, I find the light bulb selection to be very confusing. Incandescent bulbs are definitely going away but I never know what we will like. I changed a bulb in the bathroom this morning and decided that that type will go on the "do not purchase" list. Having your own vacation home sounds wonderful. I'm sure that you will enjoy it.

Lori, the Pop Sugar workout looks good. The moves are similar to some that Cathe uses in more recent workouts. I previewed a Chris Freytag Total Body HiiT that I want to try soon.

Greetings to everyone and have a great day.

On Saturday, I really overdid it, and on Sunday, my legs were hurting very much. Today I am doing my arms, and I am going to do some very easy cardio.

We mountain biked the tree farm this morning for just short of 2 hours. we crank right on up the "killer" hill now. we are going to see our house next week. it won't be complete, but done enough so we should be able to see if we made any major blunders, and what kind of furniture we should be looking at. our builder said it looks good, but really, what else can he say? we looked at some houses he'd done before anyone had moved in, and I will say... there is quite a range in what people think looks good. those people may have decorated from long distance like we've done. we found similar products locally and put together colors and textures that blended.
Going to Lowes looking for a lightbulb is quite an experience.... too many choices.
Lori that is such a cute video... is she almost fully grown now?

Caitlin, hills will do that to you. all my riding and cathe workouts don't help much with the first couple of hikes that involve uphills and downhills. I get more sore from the downhill.

Good evening ladies,

This morning I did SB's Lower Back-Back Body Target, 15m along with Upper Back Thigh, 18m, 33m /150 cal. Not a huge calorie burn but a good strength workout. I took GiGi for a brisk walk when I came home. We did 2.1 miles /206 cal. I am loving this nice weather. My total steps yesterday were 15,229. Crazy!

Deb...do you normally work out on an empty stomach? During the week I usually do because I am so early with my workout. On weekends I like to eat first. The water was really cold but that did not seem to matter to her at all.

Valerie...I have 2 really close friends and we talk pretty much everyday on a 3 way call in the morning while we drive to work. We all live in different states but see eachother a couple of times a year. One of them joined a gym and had a personal trainer. she would talk about her workouts and we assumed wow she must be looking great. Well we met up with her and me and my other friend were like What? -all the working out she was doing she looked like she really packed on some weight. It was not muscle either! Your cousin reminded me of that. Some people have good intentions. You can workout all you want but the eating needs to be under control. I know exactly what you mean about the abundance of light bulbs! I can't wait to hear about your home.

Caitlyn..we all have days when we do to much. Smart to work the upper body!

Carolyn...I really liked the RWH Low Impact 1 too. Thanks for the mention of the Chris Freytag I will check that out if it is on YouTube.

Hi to Judy and Diane Sue!

We have been so busy with the remodeling. I only got 4 1/2 hours of sleep last night. There was not a lot of energy this morning. I just got Ice To The Mat and this morning I did the mix that was the workout with shoulders and core w2, 78 minutes, 297 calories. Not a big burn but it was fine for me this morning. I think next time I may use some dumbbells or ankle weights for some of it. I did pick up 5s for the inner thighs and used them on the hip lifts. I liked the workout though and I am sure that I will be adding portions to other lower body workouts.
I am hoping to get a better workout in tomorrow. I am still cleaning white dust off of and out of everything after the ceramic tile removal, concrete work, and smoothing the floors out. It is everywhere. I cannot believe how it sifted inside cupboards. I tried to cover things.

Lori, I like that video clip of Gigi swimming. My daughters labs go get in her pond all of the time. I don't know how they keep their house clean with those two running in and out the doggie door and flopping their big selves down on the floor. They can kind of smell. Good thing their house is almost all wood flooring and tile. There is a gate on the stairs though and the dogs stay on the upper level . That is ground level upper. There house is built into a hill. Gertie is kind of at a loss with the carpet gone. I had to go find her a blanket to snuggle up in. That workout looks like it would be a good one. Nice work on the steps. I am at 7010 right now. I am not sure if I will get my 10,000 in today.

Valerie, bear spray and hair spray sounds like good ideas and having them in a water holder. Being out in the open like that where there could be groups of dogs could turn into a bad experience. I don't care for those twisty lights. Yes, it is funny how there are so many choices on light bulbs. I think I almost liked it better when you just went in and picked up light bulbs and the only thing to think about is which wattage you wanted.

Carolyn, it is really nice having family that can come and help. My daughter things we should all have a painting party when we repaint.

Hi Everyone,

We didn't go to the gym yesterday. Chris got caught up in a garage project so I ended up doing ICE Chiseled Upper Body with the Icy Core mixed in. I went pretty light with the weights. This morning I did S & S PHA Training and a Jessica Smith walk.

Deb-That was pretty scary, seeing the dog out loose. That could have ended badly. Even though I was in a residential area, it's kind of secluded and not a lot of traffic or people around. Between that and some of the other crazy things that have been going on (crime) around here, I have to admit, I don't enjoy running outdoors by myself very much. It just seems easier and safer to go to the gym and use a treadmill if I want to run. There are a couple of running groups here that I could join too, and that might be what I end up doing.

Valerie-Thanks for the tip. I just ordered a couple of cans of Halt for us to carry on our bikes. I agree about Cathe's premixes. I never used them much before but I am starting to really enjoy them.

Carolyn- I've been looking at that Chris Freytag workout too. It looks like a good one.

Lori-Great job on the steps! GiGi is so cute! I loved the video of her swimming.

Caitlin-I remember how sore my legs would get while hill training. It's a great workout.

Diane Sue-Great job with To The Mat. That is a tough one!

Judy

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Live Upper Body Express. This is a great "to the point" upper body weight workout that includes core work at the end. A winner!

Valerie, it is so great that you are willing to keep working with your cousin and spouse. Maybe the high step workouts have good premixes that you can try.

Carolyn, I have found incandescent lights at the dollar stores, as well as some local hardware stores. I like them so much better than the LED lights.

Caitlin, it sounds like you need to rest your lower body...those hills did it! :)

Lori, wow that is an awesome number of steps! When you bounce, does each one count as one step? I used to always work out on an empty stomach, but since my digestion issues, I find that I need to get some food in me sooner than later in the morning, so I usually have something light with John before he goes to work. Then I wait a bit and do a workout. I ate way too much Sunday, then did not feel like doing anything.

Diane Sue, yes, that dust can get into everything! It's so annoying, but at least you will enjoy the remodel once it is done. A painting party sounds like fun. :). I basically have kept the To the Mat DVD for the Muscle Meltdown shoulder workout.

Judy, I don't blame you for not wanting to run outdoors alone. I would feel the same way. A running group sounds good. I liked going to the track with my cousin. There was always someone else there too. Only thing is, not much nice scenery to look at, just going around a track, but safe. No dogs allowed in the place we go to, its a school practice field.

I have a pre-test this morning, to see if I am able to do the regular one which is next Tuesday...

Take care,

Judy, Halt is what postal workers carry. It doesn't spray great distance so the dog has to be fairly close. It's red pepper in aerosol but it will blow back on you too! If it's windy it can blow back on you so pay attention to which way wind is blowing. I sprayed it right in the dogs face, he turned and ran rubbing his face with his paws.
Bear spray is the same thing but much bigger can that sprays further. DH accidentally set off a can in our vehicle 2x. On us! the pack strap caught on the seat belt strap and triggered the spray. OMG it was awful! Burning. Your nose eyes and skin. Awful If you inhale it. It will stop a grizzly, and it certainly stopped us for a while. We carry the spray on pack waistband in bear country. On our bikes, an extra bottle cage is best so it's handy. a little padding around it so it doesn't rattle too much.

I used to exercise before breakfast too. I like working out better after eating, like mid morning or right before dinner too. Keeps me out of the kitchen when I'm hungry and want to snack. Riding works better a little later in the morning too. After it warms up a little and I definitely need breakfast before a ride or would be too hungry.

I made this last night and was impressed. it was simple if you have the ingredients on hand, not so simple if you need to shop for 10 things. https://smittenkitchen.com/2013/10/miso-sweet-potato-and-broccoli-bowl/

Deb hope your pre test goes well

Today I did 4 Day Split Lower Intensity Step with Shoulders, Calves, and Core. It was 1 hour 15 minutes and 350 calories. It was a great workout.

I watched part 1 of The American Experience and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. One of my friends sent a text last night to ask if my daughter was in a documentary. I had not mentioned it to her. She was watching the program, saw her and thought that she looked just like me :).

Lori, I saw the Chris Freytag on her gethealthyu channel. I'm not sure if it is with her other YouTube videos.

I use to work out on an empty stomach out of necessity, but now I eat first. My usual workout time is between 8:45 and 9:00 in the morning.

Hello to everyone and have a great day.

Today I did Tracey Staehle's Cardio Kickbox Challenge, 59 minutes, heart rate 134 avg./ 164 max. I then did Hammer and Chisel Masters Cardio 18 minutes, 119 calories H R 129/155. I finished off with Hammer and Chisel 10 minute ab chisel 12 minutes, 40 calories. Total time 89 minutes, calories burned 612. 7,320 steps so far this morning. I have lots to do and it seems to keep growing. It seems we may have workers here on Easter  I have turkey and ham dinner and baking to do. Trying to figure this all out. I do have my daughters house as back up. Too many things are going at once. I have to hit the store because when I got the replacement cell phone I lost all of my stuff from my note pad except medical information which I had typed into my S note on my tablet. I kept things like my filter sizes for the air units and things like that in it as well as security codes so I had them available. So, I have to go back. More clean up and work to do here.

Judy, nice workouts. I would have been afraid if I saw any dog coming out towards me. You never know the the character of the dog. I have always had some fear of other peoples dogs. When I was 5 and would walk to kindergarten there was a huge dog (at least in my eyes) that would growl and snarl and jump on a rickety old fence that wobbled when it hit it. I would take a wide path around it and then run. I finally found a longer route to avoid walking by that dog. I was so happy when my aunt who was 7 years older was available to walk with me or someone would take me or pick me up. That just always comes to mind when I see a vicious looking dog. I think a lot of people just enjoy being outdoors when they run. I would worry do that by myself. I remember years ago that a woman was abducted and killed that had a regular route she ran all of the time. At least here on the running trails there are quite a lot of people out there. I worry about all of the woods though.

Deb, I liked To the Mat for the entire workout, I think that I will probably be using it more as add ons doing portions of it though. I will also use ankle weights or a stronger band. I could still feel it though. I liked the seated calf work with the band.
I think my morning greens drink and cream in my coffee probably counts as something in the mornings before my workout. Otherwise I do not eat till in the afternoon sometime.

Valerie, that recipe looks good. I have some miso paste but would need to pick up the sweet potato. That would be awful having one of those cans od pepper spray go off in a vehicle. I know police training they pretty much all get to experience the feel of pepper spray. The only time I eat anything extra in the mornings other than my usual greens mixture is when I have not eaten enough the previous day and wake up with my stomach growling. That is when I know my performance would lag majorly. But, I don't need much to get going.

Carolyn, nice workout today. That is awesome that your friend recognized you in your daughter while watching the documentary.

We just got back from a road ride, 26.5 miles. after all the dog talk, I had trouble with two dogs this morning. first time in a long time, both owners with super long leashes who weren't paying attention. one german shepherd ran at me and got close after I warned him I was coming up behind him on the left. standard warning. another little lap dog further along.... dumb woman had it on a leash stretched across the entire 15 foot width of the trail, with her on one side, dog on the other. I almost ran over the little yapper ( not purposely) when it ran at me. Stupid! these people could get hired for United airlines customer service.

we finished watching a TV series called Rectify. I liked it a lot, DH not as enthused. toward the end a character brought up a musician named Harry Nilson and a song I hadn't heard. my subconscious worked all night trying to remember why it was such a familiar name. I should have googled it and gotten a better nights sleep. while driving the next day I started humming to myself the song. Everybody's Talking. it was used in the movie Midnight cowboy. Does anyone else remember that song? I always liked it but hadn't heard it in ages.

Does anyone know if they send the barbell clips separate from the Fit tower? I got the tower today.
