Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 4/9

Good evening ladies,

This morning was 3 Bellicon Bounce workouts, 40 mins / 295 cal. Tonight was a walk with GiGi for 2 miles / 187 cal. Right now I am already at 16,522 steps. This is certainly due to the jumping and walking all in one day. I also was up and down at work today quite a bit so this certainly contributed.

Deb...I am not exactly sure how the steps are calculated when I bounce but it makes sense it registers the movement somehow. This technology is so crazy! I have done that upper body workout before and really like it. Thanks for reminding me of it.

Diane Sue...really great workout today! I still have yet to do any of the H&C workouts. Workers on Easter? Hoping this does not happen. We have no plans to go anywhere. We are just going to grill some steaks and take it easy. It is just me and Bob so this works for us. Chester used to be so afraid of wood floors. We kept area rugs all over the place for him to make it easier.

Judy...when I did run I always preferred the treadmill over outside. I tried many times to like it outside but just hated it. You managed a nice workout even though you never made it to the gym. The benefits or being a home exerciser!

Valerie...I meant to mention that GiGi is not quite full grown yet but close. We think she is about 50 - 55 lbs now. She still looks so small but that is because Chester was so big! HaHa...I would have to shop for all 10 of those ingredients! Omg! United Airlines what the heck????

Carolyn...oh I missed the show. I really wanted to catch it. Is it On Demand? My son is a male version of me people say. He actually looks just like my dad. More so than my 4 brothers. Funny how that works. Good workout today. Are you following the April rotation?

I have been using the new matt on the jumpsport for a week now and all seems to be good. Hoping this is behind me now.

Have a great night all!

Diane Sue...the clips did not come with the tower? Mine came with it. Perhaps it was a special? They must sell them separate then. Hoping you can get them!

Lori, the program is in 3 parts and part 2 is tonight. I'm sure it will be on demand. I am recording it because I don't want to stay up until 11:00. Each show is 2 hours long.

Lori, I ordered the clips for 19.95 and they show on the receipt. They are just not in the box. The box seemed like it was already prepackaged because everything fit exact. Maybe the sent them separate but it seems they would let me know.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday, I went for the pre-test. Ugh...not a pleasant experience.

Valerie, I think we will look into buying something to keep on our bikes when we ride this season. That recipe looks delicious.

Carolyn, that's great that your friend saw your daughter in the documentary.

Diane Sue, workers on Easter? That is odd.. Are they friends of yours? No remodel crew that I know if would work on Easter, unless they were being paid a big premium. I think I would use my daughter's house if she offered. That is really scary about the dog when you were a child. Those kinds of things never leave your memory. Did you say you liked the Dr Axe collagen powder? I would call customer service about the clips.

Valerie, nice ride! those people with the dogs have to be real jerks. Never heard of Rectify....will have to see if its on Amazon Prime.

Lori, little GiGi is going to enjoy the good weather and all her walks! I bet Chester is smiling right now. Great that the new mat has worked out.

Working this afternoon...

Take care,

Diane Sue...oh sorry I miss understood. I would give them a call to be sure it was not overlooked. Mine was packed all together. but that was when it first came out and the clips were combined with the offer.

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I was feeling a little sore and tired so I decided to take an active rest day. I did a 30 minute easy indoor ride and that was all. My heart rate stayed below 130 so it was more of a recovery ride than anything. I feel much better this morning so I will be doing a regular workout. Chris has a doctor appointment tomorrow morning. He has been having some minor stomach/abdominal pain and is concerned and wants to get it checked out. In the past he has had elevated liver enzymes and he wants to make sure that everything is OK. Our regular doctor only works 2 days a week now and is booked up until November so he got an appointment with another doctor in the practice.

Deb-I'm sorry that the pre-test was unpleasant :( When do you have to go back for the actual test? How long was the pre-test?

Valerie-That would be awful to get that spray on you! How long did it take to recover? That recipe looks pretty good, thanks for sharing it.

Carolyn-I've been watching the gethealthyutv channel too. Some good workouts but I'm not sure if I will keep the subscription. I also have SB streaming and haven't been using that enough lately. Too many good workouts out there!
That's really neat that your friend saw your daughter in the show and texted you.

Diane Sue-Last year a woman was running in a rural area and was shot and killed. No one has been charged and I don't think they even have any suspects. Another woman was attacked on the running path that is close to here, Hines Park. A guy tried to pull her off the path and back into the woods but she managed to get away from him and flag down a car for help.
I was running with a group once and we had a big dog, a Boxer I think, come up behind us and start barking. We didn't even know he was there until he barked. Fortunately he didn't want to hurt anyone and he didn't follow us very far.

Lori-Thanks! There are definitely advantages to being a home exerciser. It's so nice to be able to do the workouts you want when you want.
Great job with the workouts and the steps! You are inspiring me to work on increasing my steps.

Hi to Caitlin!

Judy

Not a good night for sleeping. I had such a headache. My Fit Bit says I slept 3:01 with 7 minutes deep sleep. I think I had an hour before that though. It doesn't measure sleep unless it is longer than what would be a nap. I got up and took Advil and tried to lie on the couch and finally went back to bed. You would think with no caffeine and little sleep that I would just drop off but the mind is busy. I even tried the relax feature on my fit bit that guides you through a relax and breathing pattern. I got 13,148 steps in yesterday. I am watching two of the smaller grandchildren Friday evening. I will be trying to get together my Easter stuff then. I had some things that I was going to make and I need to go through my box of Easter décor and things. Stuffing plastic eggs with money and candy, making goldfish cracker carrots, and marshmallow treat eggs with sprinkles in them. I am going to have to do this Friday since Saturday there will be painters and the ceramic tile will go in the kitchen and bathroom so we can at least put in the one toilet. The rest will wait. till after Sunday. We went back out and picked large ceramic tile and grout for the kitchen and bath area. The guy that does the flooring suggested the tile over the Pergo Plus for the bathroom even though the Pergo says it can get wet.

Judy, my husband cautioned me about walking Gertie back in the woods. Now most of the time we walk up the main street that goes through our neighborhood where most of the traffic flows to the major street. They have put a park bench along the way recently and it is pretty nice. I head towards the direction of the park and turn around and come back. Sometimes I had towards one of our pools and then back up the other way then back. It gives us a decent walk. It is too bad that people are not safe even in the what would appear to be a safe area.

Lori, I put a message in their contact form at Fit Tower. I just wrote down the phone number and will try calling them in awhile unless I get an email or call from them. I really wanted the clips. I put them in as a separate order. I went back and looked at the deal and Cathe's says 10% discount and free bar clips. I went through the box several times wondering if I missed something.

Deb, I am sorry that the pre-test was not a good experience. So, when do you go back? I think my husband is working around having workers on Easter Sunday. These workers work for companies but my husband talked to them at work and they are doing there jobs on the side in their off time. He checked prices elsewhere and we are getting a good deal. Also he has seen their work I told him if he has the one that came late last night paint, I want to do my workout room myself so I can just move the equipment and furniture and do a wall at a time. I don't want to try to clear the walls and pack it all up somewhere.

I really liked recipe with sweet potatoes/ broccoli but didn't like the leftovers much. If you try it make enough for one dinner. the texture wasn't that good on the reheat and the sauce had more or less absorbed. Still a keeper for me. I knew the ingredients were a little unusual but I'd bought some white miso for something else that we didn't like enough to repeat and wanted to use it up.

Rectify is on Netflix streaming. it had several seasons and was slow in places, no doubt. the premise ( not a spoiler here) is a man has been imprisoned on death row for 20 years for a rape/ murder. his conviction is in question. he's been released back to his family in a small Georgia town. then of course it winds through the lives of his family, his life in prison, family of the victim, other people who were involved in his past and present. I enjoyed it a lot but it is slower paced than a lot of series.

it was awful both time DH accidentally triggered the bear spray. it's a gift that keeps on giving because the pepper is in a oily base and it stays on surfaces so you can detect it even after cleaning over and over. I held my breath and dove out the door but still got some. burns! stings! lasts for 10 minutes at least. we had to air it out and wipe down all the surfaces multiple times to get rid of most it. there's a locking clip on spray. it has to come off easily when you need it. both times can got snagged on something and a short spray was released. DH has never lived it down! Halt is not as intense but for dogs it works fine. still nasty.
both people who were a problem yesterday had those fishing reel type leashes and the dogs ran 15 feet out on them. the protocol on the trail is riders announce when coming up behind someone. I always shout "behind you, on your left". I do it to everyone. many people are using ear buds or yapping on the phone can't hear. You need to be fairly close to them or they can't hear. some still can't. lots of people say 'thank you" . not perfect. it was a big german shepherd and came way too close. also saw several well behaved pit bulls.

Deb, sorry it wasn't fun. hope the next one is better and that something helpful is gotten out of this.

Not much of a workout today, I just did the Fit Tower Lean and Mean Advanced workout that came with the tower. It was 35 minutes and I burned 112 calories. I have lots to get done. I am sore all over anyway. Probably from moving furniture around and thinIgs like that. I tried to get a half full garbage bag unstuck from under a large trash can full of ceramic tile pieces. I think I strained my neck and shoulders doing it. I don't know why the guys set the trashcan on top of it. I had cleaned up seedlings outside and put in it and was going to put trash in it since our two cans were full. I got my new dvd player yesterday. I haven't hooked it up yet, It is an upscale one with 3D blue ray player. I am not sure what they mean by upscale but I went ahead and bought the hdmi cable recommended for it. It has wifi. I probably don't need all of that but since my workout room tv is 3D etc. I thought the grandchildren would enjoy watching the 3D movies on it.

Deb, I am on my 3rd container of Dr Axe Bone Broth Protein powder and really like it. As for the Collagen, I first used the Dr Axe Collagen for joints which worked well. Since I got the 20.00 off with the combined package of Bone Broth Protein Pure and the Bone Broth Collagen vanilla flavor , I am trying the bone broth collagen now. I finished off the Joint Vibrance I like from Vibrant health. I just started the Bone broth collagen ithough. So far I have liked his products. I just try to hold out for the best deal on the products that work for me.

Valerie, broccoli in cooked dishes and casseroles is not always as good as a left over. It gets a bit overcooked or something. I will eat it that way but it is much better the first time around. That is nice that you let others know when there are dogs behind them.

Edited to say that I called and the bar clips should be here today and were sent separately. I am not sure how the woman knew who she was talking to since she did not ask me anything. I just explained the problem and she looked at something to check. I am guessing maybe through my phone number?

Today I did X Train Bis and Tris and Core 1. I am following the April rotation with a few substitutions. It is 7 days a week which doesn't work well for me so I am making some adjustments.

Diane Sue, I am glad that you were able to find out about the clips for the Fit Tower. It's very frustrating to have missing pieces.

I haven't noticed a difference with using the Vital Protein Collagen Peptides, but I will continue to use it up. Maybe I don't recognize the improvements. It does help me feel full and to eat less.

Judy, I don't think I will keep the gethealthyu subscription when it expires. I just don't use it much even though there are some good workouts available. This is the one that I got for $8.00 for a year so I am not complaining.

Enjoy your day.

Carolyn, the improvements take awhile. I always read those miraculous reviews and wonder... How I noticed that the collagen worked was when I quit taking it and the old finger joints locking and swelling painful joints started showing back up. Since the improvements are so gradual, I think a person forgets what it felt like before. There are products that work better than others. I see a lot of the Paleo groups recommending Vital Proteins Collagen. I have not tried any. I have looked at the Vital Proteins gelatin before but still have not tried it. What I like about Vibrant Health products is that they say exactly what is in it and how many mg/gm etc of the different nutrients. I like Amazing Grass for a greens powder but it does not give all of the nutrient facts. I my try some of Dr Axe Greens sometime but it doesn't look like it carries as many types of things and the probiotics that Vibrant Health Green Vibrance does. I like that it has the mushrooms like and plenty of Spirulina and Cholera in it.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday. Maybe today.

Judy, I hope Chris's appointment and blood work are ok. The actual test is Tuesday.. The pretest was not long...but was very uncomfortable. For the regular test, they insert a wired capsule to my esophagus, that I have to wear for 24 hours. It takes readings of the acid/non-acid stuff etc. I have to keep a very detailed diary, and press a button or something on the pack that I have to carry that is connected to the wire. That is horrible about the woman that was attacked. See this item....about the "Bike Path Rapist" in Buffalo. It took 25 years to catch him. He actually registered to run in one of the memorial runs held for one of the women that he raped and killed...:( :(

Diane Sue, I hope you got a better night's sleep last night. Maybe you're worried about the remodel and Easter etc that is keeping you from a restful sleep. I should have ordered the Bone Broth Collagen /or protein when he had the whole site sale. Maybe next time. Great that you are getting the clips today.

Valerie, that show is not included with Prime. I can tell you from experience that those "flex-leads" are not safe. I had one break more than once with a 22 pound dog that was not charging or really pulling. We stopped using them after that.

A workout ( hopefully) then maybe shopping for some Easter stuff that does not spoil. The big shopping day is Saturday, when "everyone and their brother" is out there!

Take care,

Deb, I just went to Dr Axe site and at the top it gives a code for $10.00 off NEWSLETTER7 . I also got a coupon for 20% off in the mail for the bone broth protein powder. I ordered the max size which is 40 servings That test sounds miserable. I hope it helps find out what the problem is.

Deb what a total jerk. Bear spray would have worked on him too. Lots of reasons to carry it
The test sounds unpleasant but maybe will clarify whatever the problem is. Those "flex lead" leashes don't work at all. The lady with the little yapper dog is just clueless.... we've seen her before and she's unable to control a 10 pound dog. It's dangerous for everyone. Walkers with their hearing compromised are just as bad. the path is divided with walkers, runners supposed to stay to the right, cycles pass on left, then back to the right. horses trump everything and can do whatever. not that many horses though. distracted walkers are a hazard, as are stroller moms with uncontrolled children.
I took a cue from you Carolyn and did burn sets bi's and tris and core 1. I was thinking about it since I always liked the xtrain series. when you mentioned it, I took that as a sign. the music is fine without drowning out everything else. I use mostly 12's with weighted gloves. might go up to 15 next time.
So interesting how many series are floating around. Rectify was quite good, some interesting characters. not sure I'd watch it again as it got a little drawn out, but fine for once. watching Madame Secretary right now, and started another one called Billionares... something like that.

I did a JS walk--40 Minute Mega Burn. It's a good steady state cardio workout and I used my weighted gloves.

Valerie, I'm glad that I reminded you about X Train. I love that series.

Diane Sue, that coupon sounds like a good deal for the Dr. Axe products. You are probably right that I haven't noticed the benefit of my collagen because change happens gradually.

Lori, you are getting an amazing number of daily steps with the jumping. It makes sense since you are moving your feet and your arms are moving. The Fitbit doesn't count steps when I push a shopping cart because the hands are on the cart handle. It's quite annoying when I spend a lot of time walking through the store. I have learned to push with one hand and to let my other arm hang down to get my steps :).

Hello to Deb, Judy, and Caitlin.

Today I did Cardio Slam, no mat premix 34 minutes, 243 calories. I had to skim through the mat segment because the premix buttons would not work for this workout on my new dvd player. It kept telling me it was prohibited by the dvd?? Afterward I did Ice Bootcamp Circuit no upper mix which worked fine, so I have no clue what is up with Cardio Slam. This was 35 minutes, 251 calories. I wemt a bit heavier on the weights. I finished off with Barre Amped Bounce Booty Bounce, 14 minutes, 67 calories. 5,670 steps, 83 minutes, 561 calories. I have to go to the store again. Silly me, I forgot I need eggs for Easter. Lots to do here so I wish I did not need to make another store run. I got 5 and a half hours sleep last night so I guess that is better. For me that is not enough. I need at least 7 or I start running out of steam.

Judy, that is just frightening about that guy raping those women.

Valerie, it seems the best thing is to have some bear spray any time you go out like that. I remember one day I took the grandchildren up the street to the park playground. They had mcdonalds and I decided to take them and the dog for a walk over the bridges and up the path, When we started into the trees it dawned on me how vulnerable we were. Me holding Gertie with my big hand bag and holding a Mcdonalds bag and two children bouncing around. I turned around and went back to the car. Since then, I do not carry my large purse bag. I take a cross body Harley bag with plastic bags for pick up, id, and keys or garage door opener. I always have liked X Train for a good weight workout.

Carolyn, we seem to post around the same time a lot:) I looked at the protein and greens powder from Doctor Axe. I was wondering how it would taste. I think it was also bone broth protein. I mix the bone broth collagen into my greens powder in the mornings it might be a better option. I am also kind of interested in the bone broth meal product. I will check them out more when I have the time.
