Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 10/16

Judy, thanks:)

Lorie, I think rest is important for me right now. I don't want to make things worse. I did do a couple of days of a little of SB lighter stretching but have done nothing since the fever showed up. I used let Gertie out and then crate her in the mornings at first. She dr a nk water like she had never had any before. Housebreaking was tough. I think she was our on the street too long. Once that was done there was no problem other than letting both dogs come in the workout room. Pour Gertie does not understand why I am not working out. Each morning when I go upstairs after cofffee she positions herself on her upstairs mat in the workout room and waits. When I go back downstairs she waits a little longer because I sometimes have to go back down to get my agenda book. It takes a bit before she gives up and comes searching for me. I saw that paper SB workout. It looked like a good one. I have thought about going ahead and getting the one month trial offered with the dvd I purchased. Of course it would be a waste while I am sick so I will wait.
I am glad that your class went well last night.

Valerie I guess I misread your post. I know you mentioned the logs being hard to control. It makes sense now. We had to dry up firewood at one of our homes after a huge ice stom. You could sit in the house and hear branches hit the roof . We had a lot of trees. It was work dragging them them out and cutting them to keep and cleaning up so many bags of leaves. Moving your logs and loading will be another big job.
Thank you for the concern. I have accepted th a t I need to rest. I think that I should have c a ugh up on some much needed sleep by now. It seems odd that I have so much soreness all over. Flulike symptoms along with the rest.
I am glad that I chose to have my daughter go with me. I was a bit nauseous and dizzy and she was able to ask questions that I would not have. Also she knows my history. Even if the ne c k CT scan does not show why the lymph nodes are swollen and sore I needed my neck checked out. If I am lucky it is some weird virus that will go away.

Deb, they have not given me antibiotic because they do not know what it is. If it is viral the antibiotic would not help. Seriously I don't know why they didn't try though. It doesn't seem like it would hurt anything.

Today was a JS walk--40 Minute Mega Burn. I followed that with Ab Circuits Pilates Based Abs.

Diane Sue, I am so sorry that you are still not doing well. I hope you get answers and feel better soon.

Valerie, it sounds like you had a true functional fitness workout with those trees!

Wishing everyone a good day.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did ICE Metabolic (48 min.).

Deb, I looked up Foyle's War at Netflix and they have 9 seasons for streaming! It also rated for me, given past choices, at 96%, so it looks like I will really enjoy it when I have the time. That's a lot of watching, and I have been very busy writing. I also have a lot of reading to do for a group at the Humanities Center.

Diane Sue, I feel so bad for you. I hope they figure out what it is soon. Dogs are so tied to our routines and Gertie is probably worried too. Is there any possibility it's Lyme disease? The reason I ask is that it resembles what one of our dept. assistants went through and it took a long time for it to be diagnosed, even though she had been complaining for a long time about achey shoulders, neck, and back. She thought it was from working all the time at the computer until she took a turn for the worse. Then it was a solid month of antibiotics and a lot of rest.

Lori, this is truly Indian Summer. I am back in sandals and it's going up to 80 today. I'm glad that I haven't put away all of my summer clothes. Nice of Gigi to sleep in for you!

Well, I am off to my first fitting for that dress tomorrow. Should be interesting.

Hi to Judy, Josie, Valerie, Carolyn, and Caitlin!

I had a poor nights sleep and got up for a while but went back to bed and slept for a while. don't know what the problem was but felt awful. slept almost 2 hours, took 2 advil, and starting to feel human again.
DH has been out working on the tree again, and I will do some wood splitting this afternoon. we do get some serious exercise with tree management here! we would never have cut this tree down but mother nature did it for us. it is very heavy wet wood, the sap had not dropped yet.
Diane sue, antibiotics can cause their own set of problems.... and so many things require several antibiotics for a long time. not such a benign process anymore. be patient and let the labs, scans, and testing point the direction. rest by itself can be therapeutic and even Cathe has those rest weeks between programs.

Ha..we are cool and wet. not in need of sandals! it was such a dry summer, the transition was abrupt. gray and raining. too wet to ride and the windstorm knocked down so much debris that the trails will need a few days to get cleaned off. the parks dept gets on it pretty quickly but I'm sure they had some big trees come down and it takes the crews a few days to clean it up, especially if it happens on a weekend.

I did remember to order my calendar.

Good morning ladies...

GiGi was up and very awake this morning. After a while she did calm down a bit and allowed me another 30 minute workout. I did JS 20 minute arms and jumped for a bit using 1.5lb ankle weights and 2lb hand weights. Tonight I did SB lower targets for 20 minutes. All and all I got in close to an hour so I am happy with this.

We are planning to start up our Lunch workouts again. I had to stop due to conference and then everyone else faded out. :(. One of the ladies bought Beachbody's Country Heat and we are going to try this out. Thinking we all will have fun with this one!

Diane Sue...funny how dogs get to know our routines. Good that you are aware your body needs rest. Hope you are finding some comfort today.

Lynda...loving this weather. I still have some lighter clothes out that I have been wearing this week. I forgot about that dress! Good luck on the fitting. You need to take pictures once it is completed.

Valerie...We have a couple of trees we wish would come down. Glad whatever kept you up went thru quickly. We have cable for local channels only and glad we do so. This works for us. Rest of the time we stream from NetFlix. This is working for us.

Deb...1924! I am sure you have a lot of projects. I bet your home is full of character too.

Have a great night all!

Today I did some stretching which seemed to help some of the tight stuff. I got some house work done and took a couple of naps in between work. I will be glad when tomorrow morning is done.
I got bad news tonight. Two of my nephews were in a car accident. The car rolled and they were not wearing their seatbelts. One is bruised up but the other was thrown from the car. He broke both legs and ruptured his spleen. He is in surgery right now. I was hoping to hear something before I went to bed.

Lorie, did you jump on your rebounder with ankle weights on? At least Gigi allowed you a workout :) From what I have heard about Country Heat, you will have fun with your group.

Valerie, that sounds like plenty for a workout. I bet the hot tub was nice.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday, just not feeling it. The paint we picked for the living room turned out to be a weird shade of pink when put on the walls. Ugh....we will be going back to the store this morning to see if they can "fix" it by mixing in something else, otherwise its a loss. So glad I was home and the painter came to show me when he had done some of the cutting in. I guess he was surprised that John and I would want to paint the living room pink!

Diane Sue, so sorry to hear about your nephew...I hope all goes well Are you getting news this morning on your tests etc? I think Lynda's suggestion of Lyme disease may be worth looking into.

Carolyn, great workouts! Was that a DVD or YouTube? (the JS one)...

Lynda, I know the Foyles War sounds long, but it is only 4 episodes a season I believe. Good luck with the dress fitting.

Valerie, it sounds like whatever you had was temporary...and you are back to feeling more like yourself.

Lori, is Country Heat the one with Amber?

Caitlin, I think you posted on last week's thread...

Paint store early this morning, agility class and a club meeting tonight (Yay)...

Take care,

The Jessica Smith workout was a dvd from Walk The Weight Off 30 Day Plan. It's a 3 dvd set with a variety of different types of walks.

I had my CT scan this morning. I have to wait to hear the results and what comes next, I guess. Terrible headache this morning and not eating or drinking anything, even water, did not help. I stuck Advil in my wallet and took a bottle of water with me for when I left. I guess when lymph nodes are like this it is normal to have aches and pains all over. On a plus I do not have a fever at all today. They have my nephew in traction right now, They have had to give two blood transfusions. His blood pressure is extremely low and they also found the clavicle fractured and some of his back has fractures. This young man is going to go through a lot of pain. What is up with not using a seatbelt?

Deb, good thing the painter was on it. Pink walls would not be good for a living room. We painted a whole living room once with what we thought would be a pale blue white. It came out really blue. With the blue carpet of the time it looked ridiculous. We ended up repainting the whole room. I hope that they can lighten the paint that you already purchased.

Lynda, I mentioned the Lyme to my daughter and she said that it is definitely in the differential. We will see as we go.

They already called from the comprehensive imaging and must have saw something because they already have me approved for the chest CT and also a thyroid ultrasound.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did live Cardio Core Circuit--the one with the standing abs (44 min.). For some reason I don't mind the impact on these little intervals--I think because they are short and Cathe gives plenty of short breaks.

Diane Sue, that is terrible news about your nephew. No seatbelt??! I sometimes think when you are young, you feel invulnerable and you do stupid, impulsive things or just ignore risk. Or, as my mom sometimes said, "youth is wasted on the young." I am so glad you are finally going to get some answers about what may be wrong. The neck pain has been chronic and your other doctors should have been more aggressive about finding a cause.

My first fitting went well. I will have to go in several times because the dress is in tiers cut on the bias, and she wants to make sure the draping is perfect. It was a beautiful day to drive to Lee though because the foliage is just breathtaking on the mountains right now, and it is so mild and sunny today.

Deb, what color were you hoping for? When we built our addition, the ceiling is like a wooden raftered apex, and I had to stop the staining of the rafters because they were way, way too dark. We had to pull out two of them, flip them over, and then we went with the lightest stain possible. We are currently having our two decks sanded and re-stained. Max is worried by all the noise.

Lori, that dance workout series sounds like fun. Your ladies just need you too much as inspiration.

Valerie, whatever was ailing you I'm glad it passed so quickly. Enjoy your hike!

Hi to Judy, Josie, Carolyn, and Caitlin!

I am so with names.

ames; Josie, Carolyn, Diane Sue, Deb,Valerie and all. Diane Sue, I hoI'mpe that you are feeling better. Today I did kickboxing with my two pound weighted gloves and my
lower body freestyle. I am missing the small step that goes on top of the risers for High Step, and you also need it for Lower Body Blast. I can't find it here or on Amazon or on EBay.

We drove to mts to hike but it was raining. not a downpour, but not what we wanted so we came back and did our 26 mile road ride instead. 2 hrs 15 min. a lot of debris from the storm but was getting blown clear while we rode. we hiked the same area last week and it was warm and sunny and somehow the rain made it not seem worth it. also a lot of hunters about, it is general deer season.
diane sue that is unfortunate about the nephew. why is it kids think seatbelts are optional? they think they are indestructible. he is paying dearly for it. kids always feel nothing bad can happen to them. Hopefully he will recover and be wiser for it. I don't especially like seatbelts but I wear one 100 % of the time. we were in a slow moving rollover accident long ago, and I remember how the seatbelt kept us in place. would wear one even without the personal experience. My stupid brother takes them out of his cars. he only has older cars but none have a seat belt.
Hope you get some kind of resolution about the pain and discomfort soon. at least it sounds like the tests are scheduled quickly.

Deb, so hard to tell paint color from a little swatch. we buy a quart of our planned color and paint it on a board and put the board where the paint is intended. surprising how different lighting conditions can change the color. pink is not a good color for a living room! I am just finishing getting rid of pink colors in our house that I went with in the early '90's when everything was dusty rose. big mistake.

No workout today. I did not want to get up earlier to work out before I had to leave for appointments. Diane Sue I am glad that your next tests are scheduled soon. It sounds like your doctors are being very thorough.

Lynda, I hope you will post a picture of your dress when it is finished. It sounds like it will be beautiful.

Hello to everyone.

Good evening ladies!

This morning was JS 20 min arms, a SB sculpting workout and jumping. Total times was about 50 minutes. These were easy workouts to do upstairs.

Diane Sue...that is terrible about your nephew. Sending prayers to you and your family. Glad you are going right away for the CT scan and ultrasound. When is it?

Caitlin...that stinks you are missing the high step top plateform. Not sure where you would find just the top without the risers.

Deb...that stinks about the paint. Good that you are changing it out right now then living with it. Yes Country Heat is with Autumn Calebrese from 21 day fix. Looks like we will have some fun with it.

Lynda...I can't wait to see the dress. Good for you stopping that stain. Like I said to Deb...better to change it right then instead of living with it and always wishing you chose a different stain/color. It was so beautiful today!!

Valerie...I would be really concerned hiking during deer season. Do you usually wear bright colors as precaution? How is the antenna coming along?

Carolyn...I am loving the JS workouts that I have!

Have a great night all!

Caitlin I googled "high step topper" and got several hits , walmart, and including one from cathe.
I hope this is what you need, I wasn't sure. it sounded like you have the risers but need the top piece?

http://shop.cathe.com/high-step-topper-p/575.htm

think it was $38.

I watched the cardio 2 step workout while on the elliptical and don't know why it seemed to hard the other day. I will try it again soon. I may break down and buy a regular step. already have extra risers.

The doctor called and said they found more lymph nodes than the doctor found and some on the right side as well as the left. They also want to do a lymph node biopsy. I feel lucky to have family that was able to get me help right away. This doctor is even sending me the lab results so I can share them with my daughter. I just really feel for people that do not have that. I wonder how many people just go along with whatever a doctor says. If I had stayed with the last one I would just be going back Friday for another blood draw. I would bet once he saw the white count was back up some he would not have even had me come back in again. Then it would have been till I got worse or something and went back. I also was talking to my daughter about why does insurance get to override what the doctor thinks is needed for the patient when they are not the one who has seen the patient. I think the CT scan today was authorized right away because of multiple visits for the neck.
My nephew was taken off sedation. His sister said the first thing he asked was how his brother was. Then he was able to relax. They were getting ready to remove the ventilator. It will take 4 months for his legs to heal. Yes, this is a bad way to learn the lesson on using a seatbelt. Things would probably have been much different. I had an Explorer that was hit by another car and slid into a curb and tipped over. We had on seatbelts. I had my granddaughter in the back in a booster seat with the seatbelt. She was hanging in with the seatbelt otherwise she might have been thrown around.

Lynda, I Remember when I first got Cardio Core Circuit, I thought it was really tough. Now after some other higher impact and Hiit stuff it does not seem bad to me at all. I agree the impact is shorter and much more doable. That is great that the first fitting went well. Your day sounded very pleasant.

Caitlin, have you tried to find the Step Company website? It seems Perform better carried the Step. Maybe they would have one. I got mine from Amazon but that has been long ago. I could use another one. My grandson thought it would be fun to sit on it to watch a movie and peel the rubber off of the top. I put Gorilla Glue on it and black duck tape which has held up for me.

Valerie, hunting season does not seem like a real good time to be hiking. I know most hunters would be careful. The thing that bothers me is the ones you see go out with their beer all packed up and friends to go hunting. To me that is totally irresponsible. My husbands family in Washington State do a lot of deer hunting. They wanted him to go with them and he told them he did not want to go out hunting Bambi for fun. He wouldn't eat the meat so for him it was pointless. That is a good idea doing a color swatch with the paint. I guess some paints also come in different color paint sampler jars as well. Lighting does make a big difference. I think our house with all of the gold undertones is not a good color since their are skylights and coppery vertical blinds. Someday in the future it will all go.

Carolyn, yes, this doctor is being much more thorough. I had a doctor like this before and she moved to a smaller city so her husband could farm. I have missed having an understanding doctor that was willing to spend time discussing options and was thorough.

Lorie, it sounds like you are really enjoying your Jump Sport rebounder. I need to go back and look at them again. Would you say they are about 10 inch above the floor? My chest CT scan and thyroid ultrasound will be done on Friday. I am glad we are getting to all of this finally. It was beautiful here today too. I did not get outside much though. I noticed this afternoon that my mums are starting to blooming out.

Diane Sue...glad to hear that tests are moving quickly. Your nephew has a tough road ahead of him. I never get in a car without a seatbelt. So scary about your accident.

The jumpsport is a lot taller than the one I had. I measured for you and it is 12 1/2 inches from the bottom of the leg to the top of the trampoline. Too tall for me to use in my basement, we have a drop ceiling. I would prefer it in my workout room in the basement but fine with it upstairs. I roll it out of view when not in use. Oh and I have been using my 1.5 ankle weights. I have 5lb ankle weights but would never go that heavy on the trampoline. The 1.5 wrap so tightly they feel like a part of me and I like the extra intensity it adds.
