Valerie-I don't use a screen protector on my iPad, but maybe I should look at one since I'm using it more now.

thanks Judy... Anyone else have opinions on a screen protector for ipad? It was worth every cent for my iphone. protected the screen when DH dropped it. he also dropped the ipad previously, and broke the screen. it slid off the sofa where he was using it to stream. cost about $100 I have read it's not worth it, and that it's impossible to get one on without dust and bubbles. I can't be sure a screen protector would have made a difference, and I never got a screen cover on successfully myself. always bubbles.

Deb, I have not put messenger on my cell phone, so I have not tried deleting there. I just know it worked on my Galaxy Note Pro and they were gone when I checked on my computer. I have some Matcha tea and some Roobios tea and both have somewhat of a sweet taste. Oddly, I don't like the slight sweet taste. I have been switching to decaf teas and herbal teas later in the day. I like tea without anything added and when I drink coffee, too many cups with cream is not a good idea. I won't drink it black. Cathe's Turbo Barre has a premix, but it is still long. To be honest, I have got sore knees and shoulders from all of the repetitive positions. I have not used that one very much. I play hymns and Christian music along with classical and some movie themes. Also some oldies. So, I am learning a variety of stuff.

Judy, my husband used to play guitar and sing to me :) Then he dropped off playing. When he was in Iraq he came home wanting to play again and got another guitar and amp. and worked on it for awhile. Then my grandson was so good at it that he gave him the guitar and amp. It was not a cheap guitar. I guess we all get busy with life and let those things that we once enjoyed sit. I am enjoying more reading and studying up on things and playing the piano. I could sit and do those things all day long, but I would never get anything done :)

Valerie, I put screen protectors on everything. I have one on my Galaxy Note pro tablet, my cell phone, and my Fit Bit. I usually purchase the tempered glass because it installs so much more easily and doesn't scratch up like the plastic ones do. I hate looking at a tablet with a bunch of bubbles on the screen. When I was looking at some older recipe books recently I came across some Jello recipes. I remember the carrots additions and the creamy concoctions that you mention. They threw fruit and veggies in and called it a Jello salad then started throwing in creamy stuff. I don't miss that stuff at all. I really do detest that the ipads will not update. I doubt I will purchase another one. I love my Galaxy and I have an sd card that I store my documents on that I can remove whenever I want easily. I keep my Cathe User Guides in it and it is easy to open it up and look at the premixes etc..

Carolyn, I am feeling these Fit Split workouts. I like the weight ones and the abs bonus is improving to the point I might like it. I used the Fit Tower on the lowest setting to save on my wrists for some of it and I think I got some of the moves better. It is hard to watch Cathe and concentrate on what I am doing at the same time. I got the Whole 30 Fast and Easy Cookbook and I think I am going to like it. There is quite a few soups in it and a Slow Cooker section. I saw a salad dressing that looked pretty simple and like something I would like that uses spicy brown mustard. Not a sweet dressing like honey mustard. I will let you know what I think when I try some of the recipes. I just figured I would reprint whatever pages are not right when the corrections are made on the user guide. Whole foods is further away from me and a busy area. Sprouts is close and that is another reason I don't go to Whole Foods. When I went there there was a huge line at the meat counter waiting to buy meat. I just was not impressed. I did hear that some prices was dropping when Amazon took over. I heard here that Homeland was talking about buying out Sprouts. I really hope not because Homeland is expensive and I have purchased some awful meat from there. They have expanded their health area in their store, but it is overpriced.

Valerie, I bought the otterbox defender cases with the screen cover for my old ipads and they have been dropped many times by grandchildren , in the gutter, down the stairs, off the table, and they have never had a cracked screen or been broken. The only problem is they were always bulky. I do not let them touch my Galaxy tablet and it is more like opening a book. I keep a screen protector on it for myself because there is always a first time that I will drop it. I have dropped my phone a couple of times, but have a good case and screen protector. My screen protector has been broken twice but not the phone. Once it fell out of my pocket of my purse in the store. I don't know how I managed that. I guess I didn't shove it in far enough?

Valerie, I don’t have a screen protector on my iPad and didn’t have one on the last one. I do have the iPad in a case and that offers sufficient protection. However, I always put screen protectors on my iPhones. We bought those heavy duty cases for the iPads that we got for the students in my school district.

Diane Sue, thanks for the info on that cookbook. I might look through it if I get to the bookstore this week. It’s nice to be able to browse through a book in a way that’s not possible on Amazon.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Fit Split Boxing Bootcamp, Legs & Glutes only premix. 40 minutes, 212 calories. The rotation called for the Bonus Abs afterward but I was not up for that again.

Judy, that is great that you and Chris have a common interest in doing something with music. We are supposed to go from 50's today, to singe digits overnight...and 6 inches of snow...ugh....

Valerie, that is funny that there is no name for your iPad....that is so not like Apple! It's not even on the receipt/contract? We do not have screen protectors on our iPads. John has one on his iPhone, and I remember him putting it on and the bubbles issue. Never really cared for Jello....although I would eat it as a kid if that was what was for dessert. Yes, tea does encourage a snack...same with coffee for me.

Carolyn, I did read that Whole Foods is supposed to be lowering prices due to be owned by Amazon now. Maybe we will stop in there one of these days and check it out. I like Trader Joe's. Do you have one near you?

Diane Sue, I used to use cream in coffee, but decided one day to eliminate it and have never gone back. I found I was always frustrated with coffee being served in different places, and the availability of certain cream, versus skim milk, 2% milk etc. I decided that drinking it black was much simpler. That is so great that you are enjoying the piano. Do you play Christmas songs so the family can sing? My niece used to do that on Christmas Eve and we would all gather around and sing. I am going to check to see if that cookbook is available in the library.

A workout, haircut/color, visiting my friend....

Any plans for the weekend?

Take care.

I did iCE boot camp yesterday. More on the step than I expected. mostly it was a lot of furniture shuffling. I need to look at screen and having the mat out plus more open floor space took longer because of constantly moving stuff. Had to slow to 80 % for most step. Didn’t like this one much. seemed like I was constantly needing to move something pout of the way. I had done it before because I had numbers recorded. I will try it at least once more and make some notes about how to arrange things.

I will price out a tempered glass cover. other companies do a better job on accessories and are less expensive. DH uses the iPad to stream. we replaced the screen on the old one and he has been good about keeping it in a case. They are so slippery!! I stopped using it while driving. only use the phone. Ipad was so hard to hang on to. Deb, this one only has a model number and says wi fi. No name. I need to go by measurement. It is the same size as our older one but thinner and lighter. no name on receipt. It was a trade in so maybe they do something different. It’s harder to look for accessories without a name.

I have a skim milk latte every morning but also like black. I love coffee and don’t need anything with it. I don’t want it sweet or with any fat in it. I love my coffee!. I keep a jug of cold brew in the frig for days I need a little more caffeine. I like it cold too. when we want to ride, I can shake up a little cold brew and skim milk in a bottle and get my extra power burst.
we have whole foods, central market, trader joes but none are convenient. we have another called PCC coop where I was a member but traffic has gotten way too ridiculous to drive there anymore. most of the products I got there have gone mainstream now anyway.
I never thought I'd shop Costco as I do. it takes a little adjustment in meal planning if you buy their produce since sizes are sometimes large or multi packs. quality varies. I buy some things regularly. the bigger sizes are often a lot less expensive but take up more space. Even if I can get 3x as many potatoes for the same price, I don't really want that many potatoes to store.

Today was Fit Split Mixed Impact Cardio and I did the scrambled # 1 double cardio, 48 minutes, heart rate average 132, max 162, 4,597 steps, calories 337. I used between Map My Fitness and my calories burned calculator. Maybe I need to unpair and re pair the Fit Bit although I don't see where that will help. I shut it down this morning and charged it up. It just does not seem to be working well.
I have to get to the store, clean up since my husband is working today, and paint the last closet. Lots to accomplish :) I went through my new cookbook last night and this morning and marked some recipes. I need some things from the store. I really want to get the attachment for my Kitchenaid mixer that spiralizes, makes noodles, peels etc.. I would do that much more , as my spiralizer is a lot of work to get out and turn the crank while pushing on the device. Hard things like potatoes and sweet potatoes are hard to do. One of the things the cookbooks mentions is things like potatoes cooking time is shorter when they are spiralized. I liked the idea of spiralizing and baking. The Fast and Easy Whole 30 uses more already done frozen products and even some canned beets for a salad. I thought that mashed sweet potato and cauliflower together with some ghee might actually be good. I am looking forward to making some things.

Deb, it is 18 degrees here right now. We had a few days of nice weather in between the cold. I think I read somewhere about a Trader Joes coming in around here. I looked up Costco the other day and there is one in the works (not built yet) not to far from my house. Maybe 9 miles. They had plans once before and something went wrong and they put it in Tulsa, Oklahoma instead. I wish I could make myself give up cream. I used to use the fat free powdered stuff till I realized how bad it is. Now it tastes sweet to me anyway and I don't care for it. My daughter usually has that at her house. Yes, I played Christmas songs. My grandson and I were taking turns at it :) I got two new Christmas song books this year.

Valerie, with the ipad having no name on it, it seems it would be harder to buy a screen protector unless you go through Apple. I never buy Samsung, I shop around and get mine at a lower price. I love Chameleon Cold Brew Mocha coffee. It is not sweetened. I usually will make iced coffee with it and some cashew or coconut milk in it. That is one of my favorites during the summer months. It is handy having cold brew when you want some caffeine. I mostly make decaf coffee, but sometimes like a bit of caffeinated.
Ice Bootcamp does require a bit more getting out the mat and putting it back. Sometimes I just do the work on the floor without the mat.

Carolyn, that is a good idea to go look at the book in the store.

Today I did Fit Split Shred Cardio +Bonus Abs. The main workout was 30 minutes with 229 calories burned. Average heart rate was 134 and maximum heart rate 154. I really liked this one. I used a six inch step (one set of risers) and modified some of the high impact moves. I try to do some of the high impact before using the modifications except for jumping up on the step. The Bonus Abs was 12 minutes and 40 calories burned. I liked it better this time than I did the first time that I tried it. The workout is not so long that it feels like I can’t do it.

Valerie, you might be able to get the iPad name by entering the model number on the Apple website support area. Maybe it’s an iPad Air since it is much thinner than your other one. It is hard to buy accessories without the name because they are designed for each model.

Deb, we don’t have a Trader Joe’s either. It is located in midtown near a Whole Foods. If I drive up there I go to both stores.

Diane Sue, that’s too bad about the Fitbit acting up. Does your app or your phone need updating? I only had a problem one time when I needed to update. I have a plastic spiralizer and I am hesitant to try hard things like butternut squash. My Kitchenaid mixer is 20 years old still going strong. Every time I think about getting a new one I can’t justify it in my mind. I don’t want to buy attachments for my current model.

Hello to Lori and Judy.

Thank you all for the warm welcome!
I started STS Week 3. My husband commented on my traps the other night! I just need a little motivation... and there it is!
I am getting into 3 weeks of travel for work so I'm not sure how closely I will be able to stick to the program. I have Cathe on demand but not sure how I will do that in a hotel gym :) I will do something though.
Still trying to work on my food intake (refuse to call it a diet)- trying to clean things up there.
Have a great weekend all!!

Carolyn, this is my second Kitchenaid stand mixer. When I got this one I gave my other one to my son. It is still working and I had it when he was a child. I had the shredder slicer attachments for it, but gave them to him when I got a Cuisinart food processor with extra blades. From reading the questions and answers on Amazon I think this attachment fits the older models the same as the new ones. My shredder that I had fit my new one. My husband called my new one the same mixer but on steroids :) I worked to get all of my appliances black and stainless steel for the kitchen. My other Kitchenaid was almond. I have the plastic spiralizer and it is a lot of work.
It might be worth checking out if you think you would replace with another Kitchenaid. I think this one would be great for making apple pie and apple dishes. I like apple crisp. Here is the link https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00XPRRHYW/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_8?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
I picked up some frozen riced sweet potato and broccoli at Sprouts today but will try to do my own as I picked up sweet sweet potatoes and more broccoli.

Melanie, there is nothing like having someone notice your hard work for motivation. Often we don't see it so much ourselves. It's better just to seek out good clean nutrition and find what works :) Even something in the hotel room would be better than nothing. Using bands works well.

portion of the It is called a “fifth generation “ iPad. Not a fancy name ! I got it by googling the serial number (thanks Carolyn) We got a new all in one computer today for our other house. So that ate up my free time today. busily adding in favorites as there is not an easy way to do it directly.

Deb it's not exactly a dread factor for me but a cumbersome factor. If I have to move the bench around it slows things considerably. always have to make sure the risers didn't slide out of place. and then mat up, mat down. I don't mind moving things to get set up, but having to move them multiple times during the workout gets annoying fast. I have an old smaller step but it's too small and very easy to fall off of it, especially after you get used to one twice as big.

I bought a spiralizer. I tried it on sweet potatoes and did not like the results. I thought "zucchini" but it didn't work that well on them either. it is NOT pasta and wishing does not make it so. I ended up with at least half the zucchini not usable as "pasta" the center part of the zucchini is softer and doesn't hold up to cooking so only a small part of vegie was usable as intended. so you get some nice spirals that cook OK but most of it goes to mush. I was going to try harder with zucchini but our crop was not good this year. in short, I would rather chop what I want with a knife. I haven't given it away yet and will try a few more things before giving up. I like spaghetti squash in its own right as a vegie but it also is not pasta. sticking pasta sauce on it and acting like it's "spaghetti" is just nonsense. I'd rather have a small serving of the real thing when I want it.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did the Push Only premix from Fit Split. 32 minutes, 142 calories. The rotation was supposed to be the Shred Cardio workout followed by Push Day, but I could not get up any enthusiasm for the step workout.

Valerie, When you have to do a lot to do a workout, like move things, change things, that is what adds a dread factor for me. I have a smaller sized step that I wanted to use for the Fit Cardio step workout, but it is followed by a weight workout that needs the regular step with 3 risers per side for a weight bench, so I ended up just doing the weight workout. Like Diane Sue mentioned, I don't use the mat for any of those moves that Cathe does with going around it, or stepping over it....mine is too thick, and I end up tripping on it. I don't think I would want to be moving furniture etc. I like shopping at B.J's ( similar to Costcos)..for things like paper towels and toilet paper. It's nice not to have to buy those every week. They do take up a lot of room though. We keep ours in the basement.

Diane Sue, our library only has the E-Book version of the Whole 30 Fast & Easy cookbook. I requested it, although I really wanted the hard copy to look at. I always look at a spiralizer, but know that I would probably not use it that much and it would just end up in the drawer of "things I thought I would use"..LOL....

Carolyn, good job on the workouts. Like you mentioned, maybe I should try the Bonus Abs again...see if it is any easier the 2nd time.

Melanie, good job on starting STS. Its a great program. Cathe's Travel Fit workout is great to do in a hotel room. I used it a lot when I traveled.

Hi to Judy & Lori,

Agility class this morning, if the driving is not too bad....

Have a great weekend!

Good morning ladies!

Past couple of days it has been a combination of WS3, Lekfit and SB. This morning I am going to do the newest Live. It looks like a great lower body workouts. Knowing me I will not cancel her!

Valerie, nice with the new Ipad and computer. I love upgrading technology. I do not use screen protectors on anything. My first smart phone I did but after that I felt I did not need them. Even my apple watch does not have one. My phone always goes in a velvet pouch when I place in my pocketbook. When it is time to resell my equipment everything is always in pristine condition. Its funny I am not a freak at all about protecting my stuff I am just fortunate I not need the extra protection. Have you decided on the brand of spin bike? I know you like the one you have.

I think it has been about 2 years since we last used our dvd players. I kept it pluged in and then got sick of dusting them so disconnected all and packed them away. Did not get rid of them just in case. But now after 2 years I am going to keep one and donate the others.

A friend of mine goes to whole foods and buys me freshly gound peanut butter. My family loves it. Glad one is close to us. My son and I went there the other day but they were not open yet. Getting ready to though.

Funny I have no idea why technology comes so easy to me. My son is amazing and blows me out of the water with his equipment knowledge and video making and editing. This is what he went to school for and what he is doing for work. I like to think he got this from me. :).

Carolyn I saw there was an error in the guide. Glad I did not print. I usually store a digital copy plus I like a hard copy of my guides. I print out in color on a heavy paper and wire bind them. I have all her guides like this.

Everybody has been doing great workouts!

Deb I have not done Cardio Shred yet. Will be interesting to see whether I like it or not. Hoping to start a rotation on Monday. My son is now doing body beast and I am happy for him. But now he wants to workout in the morning. That is fine but not when we are doing different programs.told him he is invading my space!! Lol! Same here with me with black coffee. Could never have with cream.

Diane Sue and Judy...I played the accordian when I was younger and I still have my accordian. Loved playing it but as I got older it was just not cool so I stopped. I wish I continued because it was really fun. I found it very complex but that was what challenged me.

Melanie.... nice compliment from your husband! My husband and I are back on track with our eating. It is so hard around the holidays!

Today is a girls day with my sons GF and her mom. Going to lunch and plan to shop all day at a mall in New Hampshire.

Have a great day all!

Thanks Diane Sue- I never thought of the bands. I am going to pack a couple.

I don't like the ever changing equipment either Deb. I trip over my yoga mat as well. And my stability ball is continually deflated. I only have 2 risers on my step that I got 23 years ago- and it's short. One day I will win the lottery and build a complete gym at home.
I am going to look into travel fit. I hope it's on demand.

Packing today and prepping some food for a neighbouring family. They lost their 59 year old father. His twin brother passed away last April. Both of massive heart attacks- the way their father died at a similar age. I often wonder- how much is genetic and how much is environmental? I hope the latter outweighs the former. I try to keep this in mind with my sugar intake and my weight in general. As I get older my weight is no longer tied to how I want to look but how long I want to live and in what condition. Deep thoughts today but this young death has hit our family hard.

I hope you all have a great Saturday and GO HARD with your workouts!c8e809ac3adf2768b53d24b1b0b340b2.jpg

Costco here is a great source for peanut butter and almond butter. I do not know if their product line varies across the country, but here we have Adams peanut butter. it comes in several 'formulations" but the one from Costco is a giant jar of ground peanuts and a little salt. it is cheap and it is GOOD. you need to stir in the oil when you open it first time but it is so good. it stays mixed but needs to be in the frig. It tastes so fresh and peanutty. I do not understand who thought sugar ( blech) belongs in PB but they are dead wrong. almond butter the same way. the Kirkland brand is very inexpensive for a big jar and very good. this is one of those things I am adamant on. PB does not want sugar in it.

Melanie it is part each. genetics is part, lifestyle is part. Smoking, bad eating habits, stress, and no exercise all contribute but some genetic things can't be changed or improved. good lifelong healthcare helps too. always frustrating when some people get away with bad habits and seem not to suffer, while some people who do everything right have problems.

I am posting my workout and need to get a shower as my son is coming over and my husband is getting ready to put the shelves in the closet that I painted last night. I may need to stain more wood. Today I started with Amy Ross You Tube workout #5 rebounding, kickbox, bodyweight 20 minutes, heart rate average 135, max 170, 129 calories, 1,680 steps. I then did the Fit Split Push only workout on my rotation, 42 minutes(10 more than the actual time) 160 calories, 903 steps, heart rate average 101, max 145. I wanted a good stretch so did The Art Of Flow Yoga with Zuzana, 46 minutes, 102 calories. I skipped some of the ending meditation stiff. I can only lie there so long and listen to someone make suggestions that are supposed to be calming and sometimes seem weird. It is probably just a me thing. I love this workout though. I always feel good afterward. She gives a lot of instruction and different levels for the poses. Total time was 1 hour 48 minutes, 391 calories.
Weights
Bench Press 20# dbs x 10,8,8 reps superset with chest flys 15# dbs 10,8,8 reps
Knee tap push ups bodyweight 10,8 reps
plyo push ups 20 reps (10 wide 10 close)
alternating close grip bench press 20# x 16 , 12,8 reps superset with lying extension 35# barbell 10, 8,8 reps

Today was Fit Split Low Impact Cardio and Metabolic Conditioning. That was 58 minutes and 291 calories burned. Average heart rate was 113 and maximum heart rate 143. This series is heavy on core work with all of the plank variations and roll ins.

Diane Sue, thanks for the link for the Kitchenaid spiralizer. I have looked at it on Williams Sonoma but the Amazon price is better.

Melanie, Travel Fit will definitely give you a good workout when you are away from your equipment. It’s amazing what you can do with bands.

Valerie, I think the fifth generation iPad is the one that Apple released very quietly in the spring last year. That’s a great trade in for you.

Lori, I love the freshly ground nut butters. I get peanut butter for my husband and almond butter for me from the Fresh Market. I always grind it myself. You will like Whole Foods when it opens.

Hi to Judy and Deb.

Valerie, I think this attachment I purchased will be good in that I can use it for apples and potatoes and that it peels. If I can do yams and sweet potatoes along with potatoes I would just chop up the center pieces a cook them. I am hoping to learn more ways to use it. I have done parsnips which crisp up nicely as a topping. Zucchini and yellow squash need to be the right size to get to work well on the plastic spiralizer that I have. If they are too large the centers are seedy and they do not spiralize well because the middle is too soft. I did apple for my grandson before and he thought that was fun to eat it that way :) Some of the recipes in my new book look really good. I have a spiralizer cookbook in my wish list that looks like it would have lots of ideas. Since whole 30 also has riced recipes for sweet potatoes to be mixed with cauliflower and mashed sweet potato cauliflower mixes, I think I can use the centers for that or the Sweet potato hash recipe which is similar to when I dice up sweet potato and fry it in a bit of ghee and garlic and top with a poached egg which one of my favorites for even dinner at times. I have a zucchini recipe that I think is in the Well Fed or Well Fed 2 cookbook that I love to make with spiralized zucchini, it is just sauted in the skillet so not mushy with garlic and they make a bit of crunchy sprinkle by toasting some coconut flour in the oil or butter and sprinkling some on top. I try to check labels on peanut butter. I usually look for organic and no extra oils. Most supermarket varieties have palm oil or some other oil added and sweeteners. I used to make my own and broke more blenders in no time. GNC had a machine that you could grind and get fresh peanut butter. My family loved it. Sprouts has nut butters in tubs that I guess is supposed to be fresher. I just know I was in trouble with macadamia butter. I wanted to eat it with a spoon. The thing with macadamia nuts is most taste stale to me. I have purchased from Sprouts bulk and did not like them. I don't know why, but the bags of Muana Loa I get at Walmart are yummy as was the macadamia butter.

Deb, I do not feel very enthusiastic about doing Shred and I usually love doing step workouts. Which rotation are you doing? The one I am doing just had push on it unless I looked at it wrong. I am doing the first one Cathe posted on the forums. The rebounder workout was just right for what I wanted for cardio today. It is off and on the rebounder. I am surprised that you were able to get the book as an e-book. When I check out the e books they never have new books available. I have not found one Whole 30 book there. I was able to send my daughter in law Well Fed 2 which is Whole 30 compliant from my books for 14 days and only once. Whole 30 books are not allowed to be loaned. That really does irritate me. My plastic spiralizer would not fit in a drawer. I put it back in it's box and stick it in the cabinets over the washer and dryer because of space which makes it less desirable to pull out and use.

Lori, I went and looked at my guide that I had printed and did not see the error I had seen mentioned. Maybe they fixed it before I printed? Was there more than one error? I had an accordion that was my aunts. I remember trying to learn it. I don't know where it went to. Funny how things just seem to have disappeared. Maybe it got broken or something. Girls day sounds fun :)

Melanie, gliding discs are another item that is easy to pack. I have always preferred bands and doing some cardio workouts that were not space hogs. It is sad when we see people die like that at a young age. My grandfather on my Dad's side died in his early 60's from a heart attack chasing a cow in the pasture. He had been warned though about diet. This was my Dad's father and my Dad had good cholesterol all his life. In his 80's he started having blood pressure problems. He passed away from a fall where he hit his head though, not from health issues. So, I guess the genes did not pass down to him. All we can do is take the best care of ourselves that we can. I don't worry so much about how old I can live, but that I feel well and have energy to do things :)
Travel Fit is a good one for travel. I took that one and some yoga with me when we went to Cancun one year.
