Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 1/7

I did rock em sock em kickbox today and icy core 1. I got sore from whatever I've been doing, so that was the most I wanted to do. still, was close to an hour.
I would rather eat the bottom of a shoe than jerky.... sorry, won't work for us. I detest the stuff. and if I don't buy it, he won't eat it. he ate a hard boiled egg for a snack today, and I got him some pistachios in shells. slows down the eating machine! I don't like hard boiled eggs either, but I made some for him anyway. I can smell them for a week! he likes peanuts. I know they aren't really nuts but too easy to chomp thru half a cup of them. neither of us like macadamias. he'll eat walnuts in baked things but not 'straight". I like almonds and can make a snack out of 10 almonds, but again, he will eat half a cup before they even register.
I think popcorn will work for him, and the baked corn scoop chips are WW friendly as long as he doesn't eat the whole bag. He gets hungry before dinner and hunger is a migraine trigger for him. luckily he doesn't like anything spicy like jalapeno chips. we get some baked potato chips but he leans toward sweet things to snack and would eat cookies if there are any around. he used to eat carrots but too many and got tired of them. doesn't like celery. I keep trying to sell the half apple with PB.

Hi Melanie.. I'm coming up on 70 soon. not ready to hang up the tennies yet! I do cathe and hike and ride when weather is better.

we are up around 50 today. we don't get the real cold temps here but I remember them well. I don't miss them!.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Fit Split Shred Cardio and the Bonus Ab workout. Yikes...that ab workout was really tough...I could not even do some of the side plank stuff. Shred Cardio was the step one, with 12 Blasts. Some were easy, some were easily modified, but a couple I tried were too fast so could not even modify before Cathe was done and moving on. :(. I need to look for that 80% speed slower option if my DVD player even has it.

Welcome Melanie! I am 64, can't remember when I started working out with Cathe. It's been quite a few years.

Valerie, good job on doing that step workout...and with 2 risers! Sometimes it takes something like the blood work results to get us to make that decision on diet. I get my blood work done tomorrow....I have gained some of the weight I lost with the heartburn issues, so I expect my cholesterol to be higher. String cheese with an apple was my "go to snack" when I was working.

Carolyn, I wish I could find a yoga workout that I can stick with. It just doesn't click with me for some reason. That, and they are usually so long that I get very bored with them. I think when I am doing the next workout in the rotation, I will try the "weights first" option.

Diane Sue, The cookbook sounds good, I am going to go take a peek at it on Amazon. That is funny that we both started the rotation in a different spot so we could have our normal rest day. I don't like the step moves where you are running around the step either.. I always feel like I am going to trip on the step.. That was one of the moves in Shred Cardio that I could not get. Cathe is jumping around the step, I could not even walk it and keep up. I didn;t like it that the Bonus Abs is not on the Shred Cardio DVD, and I had to change DVD's in the middle of the workout. Wow, that is really something about the Taco Bell getting that you were there through your phone. Time to look at my settings...I would feel weird too.

Lori, It sounds like that JS series has some really great workouts. Yes, its 32 here today too and it really does not feel that much warmer to me. :). My back is fine, but I still have some shoulder pain from those flip over sit-ups/push ups. Funny that Cathe had an article about shoulder injuries in the weekly email yesterday.

Judy, I sure hope you don't get another storm....both for you and for me since we get your weather a day later..LOL...some are predicting getting into the 50's or 60's by Thursday....I think they are dreaming.

A workout, then class at noon with Kylee.....

Take care,

Deb ... dvd has a small button that says (0.8 , 1.3) it speeds up or slows down whatever is playing. This is the old Toshiba player. 0.8 is perfect for when Cathe does something too fast to see what she did. One more tap goes back to normal speed. Another button jumps back to the beginning of the last segment to repeat. It works well when there is a series of moves where some are fine at normal speed but a couple are not. This button has made it possible for me to learn some simple step Moves. Imagine Cathe st 1.3 speed ! I don’t like the rapid fire sit up/push up flip overs. I slow them to 0.8. I’d rather do them all but slightly slower and be more careful about form.

String cheese and an apple is good ... he would eat that. Suddenly he is hungry, starving, and will grab anything and gobble it down. He likes tea with it. too often he has reached for M&M's or tea cookies. He likes cheese but by itself it's too caloric and saturated fat. He's a few pounds over ideal but mostly about his lipid levels. his sisters and brother eat absolute junk and they don't have his problem. so aggravating when they eat fast food, beer (whole lotta beer) , chips and do fine. it is really annoying. he eats mostly very well and it doesn't turn out the same.

When you are keeping one eye on what Cathe is doing, and the other on a step .... so easy to glance away and trip. I use some bands on the floor to mark an area to run around. a yoga mat is also a hazard. I've caught a toe more than once, so now use band markers. It’s one more reason why step moves are hard for me. it's hard to watch where the step itself is, and the screen at the same time. slowing the disk down really helps there.
ETA I also have used chalk to mark outlines on the floor. nothing worse than tripping. My yoga mat is significantly larger than the one cathe uses. I felt like a real lump of suet until I realized the mats were not the same.

Diane sue creepy your location is tracked. It must be like when you look at product and 10 min later you are looking at peripheral ads for it all over the screen. Did you pay cash or charge what you bought? Maybe it is the location finder ....I leave mine off most of the time, I'm not sure that works 100%.

Good morning,
Today I did Fit Split Push Day and Bonus Abs. The rotation had Pull Day listed but I had created a sheet for Push and don’t have one for Pull. My workout time was 42 minutes and 182 calories burned. Average heart rate was 109 and maximum heart rate 141. I did Bonus Abs after that (or tried to do it). That was a challenging workout because of the planks. I didn’t try to hold a plank and lift my arms. It was either bring in my knees or lift my arms but not both. That’s too hard on my shoulders. I noticed that several of the moves are similar to some that I have seen Tracy Anderson do.

Welcome to the group Melanie. I am 67 and I discovered Cathe workouts in 2010. Prior to that I worked out in a gym and I had a few dvds that I used at home. Like Valerie and Diane Sue, I plan to keep doing this forever! I try to vary the type and intensity of my workouts but I want to do something most days.

Deb, I will probably try weights first when I do another cardio and strength together. I use many of the modifications that Cathe demonstrates in Strong and Sweaty to reduce the impact.

Valerie, I often ate string cheese and an apple or 11 almonds as a snack when I was still working. I always had that with me to avoid getting too hungry. Lean protein like 1-2 ounces of chicken or turkey breast is another thing that I eat now that I am home. Yesterday I roasted some chickpeas for a crunchy snack, mostly for my husband. While I count out my nuts and am satisfied with the chosen amount, he pours out a handful at a time. The chickpeas are more filling because of the fiber. I use a recipe from the NGs but it’s easy to do. The beans need to be rinsed and drained, then dried thoroughly on a clean cloth. They won’t get crisp if they aren’t dry. Toss the dry beans with some olive oil and season with whatever spices you like. I used cumin, curry powder, chili powder, and paprika and a little salt and pepper. Roast them at 400 degrees for 30 minutes until crunchy. Stir them around a bit halfway through.

Diane Sue, I looked at that Whole 30 cookbook but didn’t get it after reading some of the reviews. Some thought that the recipes are not as good as the first book. I will be interested in hearing what you think of it.

Hi to Judy and Lori.

Carolyn

Good evening ladies,

I was not feeling a workout this morning due to some doms after the jessica metabolic workout yesterday. Never would I have thought I would be a little sore after a Jessica Smith workout. So glad I gave her a shot. She really has impressed me especially with the WS3 set. I did decide to bounce for a few minutes and ended up doing 2 Bellicon Dance bounces for 37 mins / 283 cal. Not bad for almost skipping a workout.

Judy..nice workouts. How did you like the Barlates Old School Arms? I have that on my list to do.

Diane Sue....so nice you play piano. My neighbor years ago played and I would love listening on a summer night when the windows were open. Amy’s workout is pretty short. Not sure if I would do it after cardio shred though. It is kickboxing based so lots of kicking which I love. That Taco Bell experience would completely freak me out. I hate that technology follows me and knows what I shop for. It really is creepy.

Valerie...your husbands sounds like mine with the snacking. Although Bob has done well curbing it and selecting healthier options. He likes cheese and we eat shelled peanuts. Like you mentioned with the pistachios...slows things down a bit. I love string cheese and will snack on some sometimes before or after a workout. You are doing great with indoor workouts!

Deb...I am the same way with yoga. I have tried to like it but never stick with it. I am looking forward to doing more of the FS workouts. I like the look of the rotation with xtrain. I have been wanting to do a heavier weight workout and thinking this will be great. I loved the xtrain rotation and got great results. I love WS3 and think she put together a great series.

Carolyn...good for you even trying the bonus abs. I have no desire to try this one!

Hi to Melanie!

We did an outdoor road ride today. it wasn't raining and was a "luxurious" 46 degrees. just 15 miles. took 1 hr 15 min. not bad for January.
I will continue to work my way thru the ICE series a few more times. was going to do bootcamp but decided to ride instead.

I have not had luck with yoga at home. I've tried...,just don't do things right. it is not intuitive for me at all. even after 10 yrs of classes. I improved in some areas but most things stayed the same. I got spoiled with the nice classes I went to, and for me it's social. I could maybe give the classes another try and go to a later one. too far to go for the 7 am one.

Today's workout was Fit Split Cardio Shred, 29 minutes, 208 calories, heart rate average 137, max 160, 2,610 steps. I only used one riser height this time instead of the two. It lowered my calorie burn and heart rate from last time a bit. Not much though. I then did Fit Split Bonus abs, 13 minutes, 65 calories, heart rate average 11, max 137, 192 steps. This one went a bit better this time without so much wrist pain. I finished off with 21 Day Fix Extreme Yoga, 32 minutes, 60 calories. Total time was 74 minutes and calories burned 333. My yoga choice was probably not so good as you are on your hands quite a bit. I almost stopped and chose something else.
I am working on painting the closet. I stained the shelves my husband put in and the molding that will go in. This is one of the two closets. Family dinner tomorrow.

Deb, this was my second time with that Shred and it still took me a few times around to get some of the jumping and turning and across the step move. I still don't have those abs down either. I find I am not all the way into plank when I hit that last move. I am pretty fatigued by the time I get there. I did wonder what the 6 blasts premix was like. Sometime I will check it out.

Valerie, my husband will snack on carrots too. Maybe nuts in the shell is the best option. I recently bought my husband a bag of hazelnuts in the shell and they lasted him a few days :) It is hard to get past the sweet tooth. Would he eat the juice bars? Although they do not sound too appealing when it is cold. I don't like them, but my husband has eaten them. I make sugar free lemon Jello mousse for him with fat free cream cheese blended into sugar free Jello dissolved and Skinny Whip topping added. At least it is low fat and not regular sugar. My husband used out bank card. I am going to see if I can figure out how that happened. That is as bad as Dr Axe messaging me about my order on Messenger since I did not friend him. I thought that was odd as well. When I was able to use my 24 inch puzzle mats I used them for markers. I just do the workouts without the mat on the floor because I don't like having to try to stop midst working around it to put it back. I can judge distance well enough. On top of that half the time they are stepping on their mats on the dvd. I leave my location finder off most of the time too. When I want to check traffic or weather I will turn it on for a bit. I don't like the idea of being tracked. I have a lot of yoga dvds, but tend to go for the shorter ones. I like some of the Sarah Beth YouTube better than most of the stuff I have.

Carolyn, the second Cookbook from Whole 30 is not as good as the first at all. I use the dump ranch recipe a lot, but otherwise do not have a favorite recipe out of it. It is the Fast and Easy new one that I ordered and it seems to have good reviews. That second one did not have Only had Melissa Hartwig as the author. Some of the recipes came from other people. I don't think Dallas Hartwig was involved in it. I think they had a split, but then lately I have started getting Whole 9 blog emails and stuff and they are Dallas. I don't know what is going on there. But the reviews looked good on Fast and Easy.

Lori, thanks for your thoughts on Amy's workout. I may blend it in to one of the push or pull days this week. Shred was better today using 1 riser instead of two. I took two years of piano lessons and a year of guitar when I was a teenager. I am kind of relearning, but am surprised how much I remember. My dad kept after me to get my mother's piano for years. I hated going into his house and taking it out. When he was gone, we got a uhaul trailer and bought it back. My grandson that plays comes over and practices on it. He has a keyboard and multiple guitars that he uses at home. I really enjoy it and think I am better at it than I was when I was a teenager. Maybe it is because I spend a lot more hours practicing. I keep purchasing more music and am loving it :)

Hi Everyone,

Today I did Yoga Max. I really like Cathe's yoga. My back always feels better afterwards. I may try out a local yoga studio next month. They are offering a "Yoga for Beginners" program.

Deb-so far the weather channel is calling for us to get 5-8 inches of snow Friday night and another 1-3 on Saturday. Some other weather sites aren't even mentioning snow so I'm not sure what to think. Hopefully it won't be that much. They are also saying it will be in the 50's here on Thursday.

Lori-I have some DOMS from the Walk Strong lower body workout I did yesterday. I am so glad I gave Jessica's workouts a shot too! I liked the Barlates Old School workout. I'm feeling it in my arms today, even with using lighter weights. I will do a few more of these over the next week. I also have her Upper and Lower Body Drop Set series that I want to try out.

Diane Sue-That is weird about the notification on your phone from Taco Bell. That's really nice that you play the piano! We have an electronic keyboard but haven't really done much with it. I also took guitar lessons when I was a teenager. Now that Chris is playing again, I've been trying to get back into it. I've been using some DVD lessons and a couple of books that I found on Amazon.

Valerie-Nice that you got to ride outside! I've never tried slowing the DVD player down. I'll have to see if mine has that feature.

Carolyn-I think I will prefer the weights first premixes of Fit Split. Roasted chickpeas sound good, I'll have to try that.

Hi to Melanie!

Judy

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Fit Split Mixed Impact Cardio + Pull Day. 60 minutes, 292 calories. Another one where modifying is necessary.

Valerie, your husband sounds like how I can be with food. If I have a cup of tea, I have to have something sweet with it....except for the first cup in the morning. I use the puzzle mat edges instead of a mat when Cathe uses one to go around etc. My mat is very thick and I would definitely trip over the edge if I was going around that.

Carolyn, good job on the bonus abs....it is really tough. I cannot hold a plank and lift weights, do tricep kickbacks etc. I end up putting one knee down. Like you said, too tough on shoulders. I used to count out 22 almonds for a serving as a snack. I think that was about an ounce.

Lori, thanks for mentioning the rotation that was posted with Fit Split and XTrain....I had not seen it. It looks really tough.

Diane Sue, That's great that you play piano...my father did too, lots of jazz stuff and boogie woogie! :). I can't imagine doing Shred with 2 risers....I did it with only the platform. I felt like a wimp but at least I got something out if it...maybe the next time it will be easier. Scary about Dr Axe messaging you...I really hate Messenger....I have a bunch on my phone and don't know how to delete them. I never use it.

Judy, that's great that you may try a yoga studio. I should really try one of Cathe's yoga workouts...I just wish they were shorter, or had a shorter ( less than 45 minutes) premix. I keep forgetting that KCM has that 15 minute add on one....I liked it but it was more of a constant moving one, not very "stretchy".

Hi Melanie!

Blood work this morning, for my annual physical which is next week....

Take care,

Carolyn I tried roasted chickpeas once . They were good right after making but not good the next day. How do you keep them crunchy? Or do you make them one serving at a time?

diane sue I envy you. wish I could play am instrument. I took violin for a while but you need to be very good to make a lone violin better than screechy awful. We were not musical family. I can’t sing. I just move my lips and don’t let sound out. Not even to Happy Birthday. Bad BAD voice. My father didn't like music at all and my mother liked Lawrence welk. what more can I say...
we got a lot of jello growing up. Midwest is "bigger" on jello than the west coast. what happened though, jello for us has turned into colonoscopy prep food to the point where I will not have the stuff in the house. DH... due to family history has had a lot of scopings and will continue to. bad connotation developed for jello for us. I like the fruit juice pops occasionally in summer but no appeal when it's cold and raining. he tried PB on half an apple and liked it. I've done that for years but I guess he never tried it. popcorn is good for both of us. Tostitos baked scoops are a good sub for corn chips if you can find them. 16 chips in a WW serving, and I rarely have more than 6-8.

Deb, DH likes tea. I do not. never did, although I every so often take another run at it. I don't hate it but I don't like it, and it seems like it needs something sweetwith it, like cookies! there's an orange spice tea we always have around that's OK and comes in decaf.
Judy I never appreciated the "slow down" button on the remote until cathe workouts. it's an older Toshiba dvd player. just has tiny numbers with 0.8, 1.3 below. it doesn't say "slower" or "faster" I discovered what they did by accident. in the group of buttons with forward or backward arrows to skip ahead or backwards. there are other buttons that don't seem to do anything. this was trial and error find.

I do planks with weight carefully. I take a longer break between sides so I'm not too tired after the first side. it feels like a move that could tweak something in a shoulder if not careful. I tend to pike my butt too much as I tire.

This morning I did Fit Split Mixed Impact Cardio for 28 minutes and 192 calories burned. My average heart rate was 123 and maximum heart rate 141. Next time I will probably add another cardio to this one. I don’t want to double it. There is another rotation posted today using RWH and Fit Split. Now that looks like a very tough rotation. The Fit Split and X Train rotation looks interesting to me.

Deb, Cathe’s yoga dvds have 30 minute timesaver premix. Jessica Smith also has some short yoga and stretches on her free site. What about Stretch Max—that’s not very long.

Valerie, I roasted one can of beans. That will last several days for us. I just checked and they are still crunchy today. They must be dry before roasting or they won’t stay crunchy. I have made that mistake in the past. I love music, but I can’t sing at all!

Diane Sue, it was the second Whole 30 cookbook that I was thinking of. It’s great that you have gone back to playing the piano. I had lessons for a short period as a child and have always regretted that I didn’t stick with it.

Judy, a yoga for beginners class sounds good. I found one near me, but the classes are all at night. That doesn’t work for me. Did you buy a Barlates dvd or do you use her free YouTube workouts?

Lori, I agree JS has a great series in WS3. The intensity of some of the workouts is surprising and will sneak up on you. I can see myself doing the Fit Split X Train rotation but not the one paired with RWH.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

Good evening ladies,

Today was a rest day. Needed to leave for work early.

Valerie...I remember you did a lot of yoga when I first joined this group. Too bad the studio moved. I think I would like doing it in group setting. Glad you got a ride in. We do not have any dvd players in the house. Been a couple of years since we stopped using them. I have converted everything.

Diane Sue....I have not done cardio shred and when I do most likely will use only 1 riser. I remember reading there was not that much of a difference in calories burned when reducing the riser a bit. Yes more time practicing would do it! Kudos to you on the ab workout!

Judy...good you liked the old school arms. I think I have the drop set workouts too. Were these on youtube?

Deb....the rotation does look tough but I love xtrain so thinking this is what I will do.

Caroyln....no desire to do the rotation with RWH. I never connected with that series. There were a couple workouts I liked but that was it.

Speaking of “Whole” we have a Whole Foods that just opened up near my work. My son and I plan to check it out. We are both excited about it. :).

One of the ladies I used to workout with at lunch moved to Florida and texted me to say working out without me is just not the same. So as I joke I am going to have my son film me doing a standing abs routine she loved and then burn to a dvd for her. I will be interacting with her the entire time. It should be funny and she will get a kick out of it!!! :)

Have a great evening all!

Today's workout was Fit Split Boxing Boot camp/ legs glutes, 58 minutes, 370 calories. I used map my fitness for the calories today as my Fit Bit seems way off today and the sleep stages is not working. It may be because this morning I shut down location service and my app would not work without it on. I am not sure because it had my average heart rate at 113/ max 145 which I felt was low. Map My Fitness runs off my blue tooth and watch though. This brought the workout to a 5.8 met. The workout manager has 8.5 met and 544 calories. I am almost always at least two mets lower. I used some weights heavier than Cathe. Not a lot though, 15's instead of 12's, 12's instead of 10's. I finished off with Kelly's Body Design yoga segment, 14 minutes, 34 calories. I have been busy running errands and fixing family dinner. I did download and print up the Fit Split User Guide. I saw someone posted that there is an error in it.

Judy, my grandson has learned a lot of his guitar through YouTube. He is so good about watching someone play the instrument and being able to pick it up without reading the music. He decided to take piano this year at school. We went to his recital and it is funny because he memorizes the songs and I noticed he was not even looking at the music. I wish I could remember the songs without music handy.

Deb, I have pull day and those bonus abs on schedule for tomorrow, I don't know about those abs twice in a week. My obliques are sore again after that one. I will add some cardio to this. I am following the schedule and doing mixed impact cardio on Friday. My grandmother used to play boogie woogie and dance at the piano. It was so funny. I think the Fit Split and Ripped with Hiit rotation looks like a tough one. I have tried to delete messages from messenger as well and not figured out how to get rid of them. I don't like messenger except that I have some family members and a couple of friends that messenger me once in awhile. One of the shorter yoga workouts that I like to do is Les Mills Pump Flow. It is 20 minutes and moves more slowly through the stretches. It has been one that I have used a lot. Kelly's Body Design one is more active, but it did help loosen up the tightness after today's leg glute section of Fit Split. I think I have some other shorter ones in cases. I should look.

Valerie, I have found the same thing with the chick peas. I also have found veggie chips that are homemade and baked tend to taste goog immediately, but then turn soft and lose the good flavor. I am really enjoying playing the piano. I have a cassette tape of my great grandmother playing the fiddle. She was so funny and really got into it. It was kind of a duet of her and a great uncle playing the piano. I got it from my mother and my aunt was thrilled when I recorded it on my tablet and emailed it to her. She did not know it existed. My great grandmother was near 90 then. My grandmother had an organ and a piano in her living room. Your Jello experience sounds like my Crystal light lemonade and raspberry tea experience. It brings back not so good memories. I have noticed the trend for the baked chips and fat free cookies and stuff has seemed to drop off some. Not as many choices left in the stores.

Carolyn, I am not very good about wanting to repeat a workout a second time. I would rather string two different cardio workouts together. I looked at the Ripped with Hiit and Fit Split rotation and thought it looked tough. I decided to wait for the user guide instead of printing it off and the guide came later today. I wouldn't mind some of the Ripped with Hiit work with some of the Fit Split, but I think my choices :)
I had hopes with that second Whole 30 cookbook and had read the reviews. I had hopes, from a couple of reviews, of liking it. I tried a couple of the recipes that was a larger amount prepared and then broke down into three other recipes so it could be used for several different meals. Unfortunately, I didn't care for the recipes. The roast was good, but I think it would be hard to really ruin a roast. It was a disappointment. I should have the Fast and Easy one tomorrow. It has good reviews so I am looking forward to it.

Lori, that would seem so odd to me to not have dvd players in the house. You are so good with technology. One riser is plenty for the cardio shred. Cathe is very fast on some of those moves where you are down to the floor and jumping on and off the step. It felt much better with one instead of 2 which is how I did it t he first time.
Whole Foods was one of the first large nutrition markets to move into our area. My daughter and I went and I hardly purchased anything because their prices are so high. Then Natural foods went in and I went there a little. I was thrilled when they put in Sprouts and even happier when a Sprouts store went in within walking distance if I really wanted to walk there.

Deb-Great job with the Fit Split workouts! I like the shorter premixes on Yoga Relax and Yoga Max. Also, like Carolyn mentioned, Stretch Max is a good alternative.

Valerie-I grew up in the Midwest too and we had jello desserts all the time. I don't really care much for it now, but once in a while I'll pick some up.

Carolyn-The studio I'm looking at has classes during the day. I wouldn't want to go to an evening class either. I've been buying the Barlates DVDs from totalfitnessdvds.com.

Lori-I saw previews of the drop set series on Youtube and I ordered the DVDs last month. I bet your friend loves the DVD that you are making for her!

Diane Sue-I've seen a lot of good guitar tutorials on Youtube too. It seems a lot easier to learn to play an instrument now than it did before the internet. It sounds like your family is really into music and playing instruments. I wish I would have stayed with it when I was a teenager instead of waiting almost 40 years to try it again.

Deb, I did a search and deleted my Messenger messages :) I did it from my tablet though. I opened messenger and held down the message I wanted to delete and pushed the delete button. Then I checked on my laptop and they were gone. I kept one that is videos of cool cooking ideas my husband is always sending me. :) I checked and you have to hold down the message and when it pops up down at the bottom to have a conversation there is a button there on options to delete.

Lori, I forgot to mention your idea for your friend. I think it is such a fun idea :)

Judy, I wish I would have stuck with one instrument. I did 2 years of piano lessons and decided I wanted to play guitar and spent about a year and a half with that. There is so much more out there now than when we were young.

We did some shopping and upgraded our ipad today. did not need to do the battery in my phone tho it's a 6s. I can wait until later this year and then check function to see if I will benefit from it. I thought I needed to get a new battery but not yet.

we looked at spin bikes and rowing machines. we will get another spin bike for MT. we need to have options for stretches of bad weather, just like here. we both like the Lemond pro. later I did a 40 min spin from Pedal power, abs from HR, and 50 knee push ups.
I think good musicians are born that way. I love music but I sure can't make it myself. can't dance either.

ha ha... jello was very big back then. I always connected to being sick. rubbery texture doesn’t work for me. Now it is only colonoscopy food .

Carolyn I only did the chickpeas once. Maybe I didn’t dry them well because they didn’t last long and I didn’t want to eat them all at once.

Lori I used to do yoga twice a week at 7 am. Getting to the new location that early doesn’t happen. Also the new studio has a low ceiling and is cramped space and I felt claustrophobic there. This is the third location for her. Also a friend there became ill with cancer and died, so too many bad feelings to it now.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Fit Split Boxing Bootcamp, the kickbox only premix. 35 minutes, 174 calories. I really think I will like this one. Not to difficult to get the 3 combos, and I like the long warm up.

Valerie, somehow I am remembering eating chickpeas when I was a kid that were already dried? Maybe they are the raw ones that you can get, (not canned?).. The tea I drink regularly is http://www.celestialseasonings.com/products/herbal/honey-vanilla-chamomile-herbal-tea.
I don't need any sweeteners with this....although others I know use honey. I did find that my DVD play has a "slow" mode, and it looks like it could really help on the new step workout. :).

Carolyn, thanks for mentioning the new rotation with Ripped/w/HIIT. It does look really tough. I don't know what I was thinking....I think it was Cathe's original barre workouts that did not have shorter premixes....I like the idea of a 30 minute yoga, and think I will put those on my list to try.

Lori, good to take a rest day. I did Shred Cardio with the platform only. I have a smaller ( shorter) step that I plan on using next time. It will make the movements around the step easier. A Whole Foods opened up here this past summer. I have not looked at it yet. Lots of mixed reviews from the locals. Mostly that it is expensive. I like my little Co-Op...John and I are members now. I love that idea of the DVD for the woman in Florida...that should be a hoot!

Diane Sue, good job on the Boxing Bootcamp Legs & Glutes. That is on my rotation for today. I checked my Fit Bit against my Polar HRM for yesterdays workout, and the FitBit was actually higher. First time it was. I am sticking to my HRM....it can get too frustrating for me doing comparisons.. I figure as long as I use the same thing, I can tell if I am getting better or not. My grandmother also played piano, but she mostly played church music, as she played in the church during mass. Thanks for the tip on deleting Messages. I will try it on my iPad....I know that method does not work on my phone. There isn't even a trash symbol or delete option.

Judy, are you going to start guitar lessons or the electric keyboard? Either sounds like it would be fun to get back into it, especially if Chris is doing something too.

Take care,

Deb-I'm focusing more on the guitar. Chris wanted to get a keyboard for us to work on together. We haven't really done anything with it yet.

Valerie-Which iPad did you get? Nice that you are getting another spin bike. Chris is more of a musician than I am. I love music, but I'd never play guitar in front of anyone. I can't dance either.

Diane Sue-There is so much out there now, especially with Youtube. Chris was in a band when he was a teenager. He played bass guitar. He gave up music when he went to college and now I think he regrets not getting back to it sooner.

Judy I'm not even sure which model it is. it's the same size as our previous one so case still fits. it is so loud in the apple store I could not hear. plus I was talking to someone else about getting my phone battery replaced. We were given jello as part of the meal, like a side dish. It was another childhood food that now given a choice, I bypass. by the time my mother got done adding sour cream and cream cheese, it was not light anymore, and if anything should have been a dessert.

Do any of you have screen protectors for your ipads? I never thought of it before. DH uses it more than he uses his phone. I am the opposite. we traded our old ipad in on an updated version. it was not that expensive but this one does not have a name. all I have is a model number. it's a little thinner than our old one, which was only 3-4 yrs old but was having trouble updating.

I am looking at another older dvd remote. It has a 'slow" button. it is not hooked up to anything to test and the manual doesn't elaborate. when dvds first got popular they had all kinds of features. the newer ones look very simple.

Carolyn l'll give chickpeas another try making sure they are dry before roasting. I liked them the first time but I don't need to eat a whole tray full in one sitting.

Deb, I have many boxes of tea. I always think it sounds good, then try a cup and don't like it. I get a funny dry mouth sensation with tea. plus, it encourages me to snack with it.

Lori your friend will love the DVD. I wish I had your 10% of your sense for technology. I flounder along! if we lost our DVD players, I'd never see anything on the TV again. part of it is where we live and a big part is because I don't feel comfortable with streaming. I would never bother if DH didn't do it. I will never understand what goes on with all the remotes.

we don't have a Whole foods, Sprouts, or anything like it in reasonable drive distance. I wish we did! 30 miles of bad traffic makes it not worth it.
Our ipad does not have a name as far as I can see. it's an ipad Wi-Fi and I have a model # but not a name.

My workout today was Fit Split Pull Day. My total time was 52 minutes with 191 calories burned. Average heart rate was 107 and maximum heart rate 139. Switching out equipment and writing down weights used always adds a little time to the actual workout. I followed that with a Yoga Flow with Chris Freytag from gethealthyutv. That was 20 minutes and 53 calories burned. My upper body is really feeling the effects of these weight workouts but in a good way.

Diane Sue, I saw that the user guide was posted and gave it a quick look. I will wait a few days before I print it to allow time for corrections.

Valerie, getting a new spin bike, or any new exercise equipment is exciting. Did you get the iPad Pro? One other thing about the roasted chickpeas is that you must use enough oil. The recipe that I used called for 2 Tbsp of oil for the 1 can of beans. Because I only eat a small amount I don’t mind adding the oil, but that might be an issue for you.

Deb, I love Whole Foods but it is definitely expensive. Of course, they have been lowering prices on many items since Amazon bought it a few months ago. I don’t go there often because it is not close to me. Sprouts and The Fresh Market are much more convenient. My daughter in Durham belongs to a coop and it is wonderful.

Lori, you are amazing with the technology. I am sure that your friend will love the dvd and sharing a workout experience with you.

Hello to Judy.
