:D:D:DLol I think it is a Hilarious idea indeed Justine. I am humbled Turquoise Eyes having such effect on you
by just being ME;);). Now you are lighting my creative side too. The first thing I would suggest is to set a challenge
to mute off the myth around women lifting heavy once and for all. How does it sound to you Turquoise Eyes;)
My suitcase is ready for an over 10 hours flight:eek::eek::oops:. Lol

Hmmm Cathe must have some fans with production connection lol:p:p:p

Oh, I am THERE with you! Come into Washington, D.C.- I'll pick you up at the airport! Where's Justine at? I'll pick her up, too. :D We can stop and chat with the First Lady; she's big into fitness and healthy eating. What a start to our new TV show, right?!

If I hear one more person say, "Women shouldn't lift heavy/use low reps with heavy weights/lift weights at all", I'm going to hit them with my biggest dumbbell and show them what a chick with muscle can do! I just watched my grandmother wither away from cancer, congestive heart failure, post-polio syndrome, and Stage 4 osteoarthritis. My once-5'7", 250 lb. grandmother was reduced to about 5' and 95 lbs. Her bones and teeth had disintegrated as if someone had poured acid on them. Tragically, weight-training throughout her life and eating clean would have reversed much (if not all) of the latter three problems. No, we cannot prevent all health problems through healthy eating. And this isn't to knock her. But her life is a cautionary tale. (My mother and I actually thought for a moment that they had put the wrong person in my grandmother's coffin, she was so tiny and unlike the person we'd always known.) Sorry to be morbid, but quite honestly, women's health is an important issue. Misinformation and fear-mongering regarding weights is a big reason why my grandmother and mother would not/will not lift. They both have been badly affected by the lost opportunity. So please, send those who state women don't need lifting my way. I will GLADLY set them straight right now...

And hello, what do they who poo-poo serious weights for women think gives us the energy to live our lives with gusto? Besides oxygen, I mean...muscle! Let me tell you, I had my backpack on the entire trip last weekend at a local university, and it was heavier than anything the other students were wearing. I have fifteen years if I have a day on these students. It was 80 degrees and about 80% humidity. We were all in dress clothes, we were presenting (always nerve-wracking!), and we'd spent three hours driving in an un-air-conditioned van. We all got up around 5 or 6 in the morning. It was a big campus and we were sight-seeing much of the day, climbing up steps and getting lost. At the end of the long first day, the nineteen-year-olds were all too tired to join in post-dinner activities, while I went back to my hotel room and worked out! (With Travel Fit- thank you, Cathe!) For three days prior, I had been at my grandmother's viewing and funeral, which included two additional three-hour road trips in the car. I expected to be exhausted come Monday. You know, it was nuts, but I actually felt great! It wasn't even a blip on the radar. I have MUSCLE to thank for all that energy. TRUST ME, I was not born this way, working out created this. For the record, I will take being "big and bulky" over being tired, weak and frail. :)

Justine and Karen -- amazing work on squats!!
Karen -- 235?! You are a machine, woman! Pure badass! :D
I'm in phase 2 of K.I.S.S. and the main lift on squat day is front squats. Not my fave, but I'm getting better at them. I front squatted 120 for 2x3 on Friday (I guess we all got the memo it was squat day??) and felt pretty good about that!
Karen, thanks for turning us on to this program!

I'll be done with K.I.S.S. in 1.5 weeks and plan to move to the Singles program -- basically includes a lot of heavy singles for 3 TB workouts/week. (Other one I'm considering is Simple Strength 2, but I think I'll do Singles first.) I may do that and throw in a bodyweight day every week (for fun and because I need to justify my recent purchased of Jungle Gym XT and Nia's new BW program, LOL).

Lizzie, yeah, someone's gotta produce the show you suggested. And the theme song can be 'The Weight' by The Band. Love it!

Over here LMAO!

And you can see that we're all supporting Bret's theory here about women who are into fitness talking smack about everyone else. Because we're all just so mean, hormonal, competitive and jealous, we don't know how to cooperate and support one another in the least. God forbid your pink tights look better on you than my black ones with the pink trim do! And that your butt be rounder and firmer than mine! Gasp! OMG, you all lift more than 5 lbs. per arm, and you didn't do hip thrusts today?! Oh, the horror! Don't you know you'll lose your femininity that way?

LOL! :D:D:D Gosh, these forums are fun!

To the gents like Bret: I DO like wearing pink. It looks good on me. It looks good on most women. That doesn't make me or anyone else weak, stupid, or ditzy. I do wear makeup (although not while exercising). I do like to dress up, simply because I enjoy it, not for anyone else. I do like to be complimented on occasion...jeez, I'm human! That does not mean I have to cut down other women. Most of us have no need to build up ourselves through cutting others down, and women (and men) who are that way actually have no confidence. They should be pitied. However, no matter how I look or what I'm wearing - AHEM! - I DON'T like to be pawed, in or out of the gym. Just because I look cute does not give anyone the right to act like a bro d-bag and hit on me, like Zak from Ghost Adventures would.

I don't make a snow globe out of chalk (sounds like fun, I must admit!), although I do get grumpy if I forget to put on my weight-training gloves before heavy lifting. (Yes, I own weight-lifting gloves, Bret. See, I have a sense of commitment, too!) I do get PMS and yeah, I will say that those days are ones where you should leave me be, boys. And girls, because my wrath may know no boundaries. However, considering that men will never have to deal with that problem, they need to HUSH UP about it, period. Let me add that most men can't deal with having a simple head cold and not act as if they're dying in the 1918 influenza epidemic. In a simple, single sentence: MEN HAVE NO ROOM TO TALK.

You under-sell yourself x

Hardly. To our future viewers: I'll be the one in the corner alternating between sneaking a puff from an oxygen tank, begging Cathe for mercy and puking, while trying to keep up with Nathalie and Justine doing a combo STS/RWH rotation. It won't be pretty, but it SHOULD be entertaining. Nathalie and Justine, you do know CPR, right? ;)

Now where are those candy pink tights I keep hearing about? I have a black thong leotard with pink lace trim and a hot pink headband from the 80's that would look so cute with them!

So you're joining us, too? Awesome! Hope none of you mind camping out on my living room floor with me, since I don't have a guest room. That's okay. We'll make our executive producer rent us a Real World-style pad...Ever been to Washington? It's lots of fun...well, for about a day. But we're only a few hours away from New York and gasp...New Jersey! Road trip, ladies! Y'all know where we're going! :D

It had better work! Usually I'm all about getting stronger...but I've just been invited to a masked ball (!) by some very glamorous friends, and I want to wear my halter neck, backless Diane von Furstenburg dress. ;)
Now, I can get attention by challenging the room to a pull-up competition. Or do a press-up with a large man sitting on my back.....but for once, I'd just like to look hot!!!!

Okay, now I'm just a wincey bit jealous of you, LOL. A masked ball! I remember years ago watching All My Children, there was a ball with a Phantom of the Opera theme. Everyone dressed up and looked so lovely in their evening wear. I thought that's what being an adult would be like. What a numbskull I was! :D

And your dress sounds gorgeous!!! You'll rock the von Furstenburg, girlie, what are you talking about?! I'm not a large man, but as a large woman I offer my press-up services if you'll let me see the gown! I am ALL about the formal clothes.

I can't wait to hear what that ball is like!

Lol turquoiseEyes, the thread is getting way too hilarious...Have you got a pink lip gloss to match the tights?:D:D

My apology to both Roz and Karen for "hijacking the thread"
Karen squatting 235 pound is impressive.
Congratulations:)

Of course I have lip gloss for it. It's sparkly and goes great with everything. I even have rose gold earrings just for my pink outfits, since I like to look so darn cute.

I apologize for (unintentionally) hijacking the thread. It's more my fault than Nathalie's, so I'll take the punishment this time. ;)

Just wanted to say thank you, Roz, for all the yoga suggestions....I'm now doing Sun Sal B, rather than A - yes, much better for me (and harder!) I've been doing Travis Eliot's 'short and sweet' each evening, and it's all making a real difference. I'm so excited about starting Beautiful Badass, that I want everything 'fixed' before I do, so that I can give it my all. Sad, eh?

Where do I not have DOMS, is the question.
Weird and hard-to-reach places, too: deep glute, lats, inner elbow crease.
I'm loving this program. Haven't felt the need for much cardio, but did Supercuts this morning. It felt great and broke up some of my DOMS. I'll take an extra rest day tomorrow just so I'm totally ready to start week #2 on Sunday.
Karen, how are you liking the Double Progression program?
Justine do you mean Meso #2 (or have you got your hands on the elusive Meso #4? ;) ). Will you be doing Meso #3? I agree with what you said in another thread -- it does drag a bit. Nice thing about BBA is you set your own rests, based on needs, within a suggested range.
Oh, and in case anyone needs ideas for some metabolic conditioning, ha:

What is getting the lats sore in the program, if you don't mind me asking? I can do set after set of lat work and really work consistently and hard from a variety of angles/weights/exercise choice, but that's not an area I ever feel soreness or seem to see much growth in. :( The shoulders and rhomboids, yes; lats, no muscle changes to speak of.

Is it the use standard exercises, but done with heavier weights and low(er) reps? Or are there some more unique exercises that are challenging the muscle fibers in whole new ways? Sorry to pester you with questions, but this piqued my curiosity! :)

turquoise eyes- roz, I'm sure, will answer your question - but I suspect it's all the pull ups / chin ups! Nia doesn't do 'isolation' exercises....just exhausting compound ones ;-)
It has taken me a long time to learn to engage my lats. I did a lot of single arm pull downs (with a band), whilst placing my other hand on my lats to ensure I was actually firing them. Only once I had learned that was I able to do pull ups (and not that many yet :-o)

Hi Turquoise,

Soreness does *not* necessarily mean you have worked effectively enough. I understand you want to feel your lat more ;) while executing
the move. Let's me now if I have misunderstood:). I suggest two exercises:

  • One arm row, with good form. If you have muscle max, please review the forms and pointers.keep your
Elbow close along your body, try, if you can to hold a flat back to parallel to the bench or floor.
Once you have mastered this exercice, do all possible variations.

  • Wide grip barbell row, again if you can hold your back parallel if you can....Light weight repetitive reps.
HTH

Hi Lizzie,
Yup, Justine nailed it... all those dang chin ups!
Speaking of lats, have you seem Cathe's in MIS? Holy moly! Lat envy!

Yeah, I feel the lats while I'm doing sets, I just don't see much change in them. I've been doing single-arm rows a long time, since they're part of The FIRM's main body of exercises. I know rows aren't necessarily the best for lat width, and I'd like to add a bit of that.

Lat pulldowns done heavy on a machine work best for me, but it's been awhile since I've had access to them. The pull-up/chin-up routine makes sense for growth, strength, etc. I'll have to find a way to add them in somehow! :)

Roz - yes, yes, yes Cathe's lats. Love 'em!
I saw those T-shirts......very tempted. Mind you, I've just spent May's workout money on some new barbell plates (because this morning my BB wasn't heavy enough for my deadlifts - yay!)
haha Justine, yes! Nice!
yeah, I have a total clown barbell when I do deadlifts with tons of mismatching plates crammed as tightly as possible on to the bar. Don't get me wrong though, the two sides of the bar match each other, but the plates are all different colors and materials.

Justine, I love this: "May's workout money." It takes a special bunch to appreciate the importance of regularly spending money on fitness (beyond the typical gym membership that never seems to get used, at least in the United States). ;)

Actually I should follow your good example and set a limit for my workout spending. I have the common Cathlete problem of a vidiot addict evil twin running around with my credit card, impulsively buying fitness toys!
