Maximum Intensity Cardio

Good morning (or afternoon or evening to some of you!!) all...another question for the masses. I am slowly but surely on a mission to acquire all the Cathe DVDs. Just received a gift certificate for my bday from my loving sisters (YEAH!!) and I am ready to buy more vids.

Is MIC a worthy buy...not sure if I can get past the "dated" feel of it...but is the workout itself a good one? I mean, those of you that have the newer vids, do you still ever find yourself reaching for this one or am I better off getting something a little updated?

Thanks for all opinions!!! :D

Hi Rose,
MIC is only available on a DVD with two other workouts (the original Imax and Rhythmic Step) and all three of these are amazing workouts that will KICK your butt---especially MIC and Imax. IMO the original Imax is more intense than Imax 2 (less than Imax 3).
Sorry, back to MIC :) MIC has some pretty intense Hi/Lo followed by some even more intense steady state step with blasts at the end. It's a wicked workout, and trust me, by the time you're finished, if you have the energy left to care what Cathe's wearing or what music is playing in the back ground, then hats off to you my friend!

And Rhythmic Step is pure dancy, steady state stepping fun from beginning to end---so yes, this DVD is a wise investment.

LOVE that description!!! Maybe you are right...perhaps between the gasps for air and the cramping muscles, I will not care to analyze the 90s faux pas'!!!!

Thanks for your insight Mattea! :D

Hi Rose,

I agree with everything Mattea said. Out of all 3 workouts, Rhythmic Step is my favorite since I like dancy step and choreography. IMAX is a great interval workout. MIC is my most dreaded cardio workout. I think it is Cathe's most intense cardio (the hi/lo portion). The step for me is not so bad. The dated stuff really doesn't bother me that much.

This one is definitely worth it.

I really enjoy this DVD, too. I like how Cathe provides lower intensity options on the Imax, and RS is a wonderfully fun step w/o. I could never quite get into MIC because I'm just not a hi/lo person, and, sorry, couldn't get past the outfits (For some reason, these outfits bug me more than the old thong leotard ones). Anyway, definitely worth buying IMO.

The worst part about MIC is the awful bras the women are (not) wearing. And the incessant bouncing. Nobody's boobies deserve being treated that way.

Hate it hate it hate it. Hate it worse than Butts and Guts.

But love Rhythmic Step.

'Meh' about IMAX.

I still do MIC regularly. MIC was my #1 calorie burner until Cardio Fusion came along. I just try to avoid looking at the outfits. They kind of remind me of car hop uniforms or worse yet, like the gym suits they used to make us wear in high school. LOL. I like Rhythmic Step too but only do that on easy days. IMAX is also a regular on my rotation and I agree that it's more intense than IMAX2. All in all I think this DVD is well worth having in your library.

I like to use MIC when I need a TOUGH workout but only have about a half hour to do it--then I just do the hi/lo part and skip the step. Plus, I am able to talk myself into doing it by saying "The hard part is only about 10 minutes--you can do anything for 10 minutes" since she starts out with low intensity and medium intensity before she gets into the high intensity part. Definitely worth getting especially if you have days when you are short on time.

I love the other 2 workouts on the DVD. I have never done MIC---it is just a bit outdated for me. For some reason, I can get past the look on the original body max, but something about MIC---everytime I start to play it---I stop it--and choose one of the other workouts.

With that said, the other workouts are great in my opinion.

I just did this one for the first time today and it is really old school!!! But... tough! It starts out really easy and I was thinking, okay this has to get better, right!!! Then before I know it I am huffing and puffing, and dripping!!! It's a goody. Definetly worth buying. Just don't mind the clothes, trust me you will get over it. Just focus on Cathe and it will be great! I previewed a little of Rythmic Step and it looks good too. Good luck. So many decisions!!!}(

Ok...I broke down and ordered it. I figure with the sweat that will be dripping in my eyes I won't be able to see the hideous outfits!!!

I can't wait to try it and will let you know the verdict!!!

Thanks ladies, as always, for the input!! }(

Is this an easy routine to pick up?

I have the DVD but have only done IMAX, not MIC yet...

Thanks!

Jen,
Yes, MIC is pretty easy choreo. It starts out low impact and very basic, gets more intense, not really more complicated.

The step portion is probably one of the easiest to pick up, I'd say one viewing will probably be enough.

Either way, it's definitely easier choreo than Rhythmic Step:)

Mattea - Thank you very much, I haven't even tried Rhythmic Step & probably won't, i just don't have the patience to learn really difficult routines like that... I am going to be trying BM2 for the first time this weekend, Drill Max I love, KPC is also one of my fav's, I just like simple choreo.! :)

I have the EXACT same opinion!! I HATE HATE HATE (did I mention hate?) MIC. But RS is worth the purchase! It's fun and goes by so quick. I'm so so about IMAX, but I don't dread it as much as MIC.

Jen,

I know, sometimes you just want the physical and not the mental workout too! But usually I love how the complex choreo completely distracts me and I'm not able to think about anything else. RS is A LOT of fun and someday when you have the time or just want to move try lowering your step height and trying to learn RS, it is worth it, and hey, you already own it, lol!

:)
