Man spends 18 yrs in prison for crime he didn't commit

Yup, that's an overstatement, we aren't even in the same ballpark as Iran. We are .02, they are .25, so we are 2,000 per 100K, and they are 25,000!

Big difference! (and yes, I had to get the calculator out) :p

My bad, didn't look close enough, thought there was another 0.

I still don't like the company. And we still sentence just as many to death as Iran actually executes. Iran excuted 346 last year according to Amnesty International, America 125.

Not to mention the death row inmates that were exonerated in the US, 8 just in 2009. I don't really even want to think about how many innocent people get executed and how many people are actually on death row who did not commit the crime that they were convicted. We can paint pretty of how much better we are than Iran or China (look! We exceute less than Iran and China)but just one innocent person excuted is one too many.

I wish America didn't have to sentence or execute anyone. This would mean there are no people intentionally murdered. That is an America I want to live in!

They don't HAVE to :p But I agree, that's the America that I would want to live in too.

Well, this is still the America I want to live in.

Nothing is perfect, so society is perfect, we are made up of people and there are flaws and mistakes, but this is still the best darn country to live in, with the best chances of a long, fruitful, and free existance. It is awful that this man was wrongfuly convicted, but guess what, the mistake was admitted, he was freed, he is free to sue, and the media is reporting it. The fact that we know about it and are even discussing it validates what is good about the US. Many other countries would let him rot in prison, and never admit their mistake.

People are crossing oceans and even risking death to get over here, and there's a reason for that. Because this is America, and they want things they can't get in their own country.

Despite our flaws, and no matter which President sits in office, I'm still pretty darn happy to be here.

I am not disputing that, in fact, I think it is a great country which is one of the reasons why I moved here. I had a pretty good life where I am from. There are lots of immegrants coming to my home country as well.

But just because America is overall a great country doesn't mean that we need to rest on our laurels and keep with the status quo. There are always things that can be done better. And I think that is also what America is about.

Well, no, the US is not the best darn country to live in; that glorious and well-deserved appellation goes to Canada. And I'm half-American, so of course, completely unbiased on the subject.

And nope, we don't extradite to the States for death penalty cases either.
