Lurkers Invitation 2010

I am trying the ON thing you suggested Janie, we'll see how it goes... it certainly does help to put everything in order !! Never even noticed this option before. I am quite new to the forum.

Eunice, putting weights in a backpack is an excellent idea, I will have to try that!. You are probably right about the grip, I noticed a difference in a week. And when you see Cathe go around with those 40 pounders, you see it's possible. I am far from pretending I am as good as Cathe (farrrrrrrrrr), but I tend to think that if she can do it, well, so can I, some day, with work, and a lot of effort....... Anyway, in the mean time, I ordered Versa Gripps last night from Ebay. I ordered the Fit kind. I hope I will like them!

It looks like a few of you are 2 days ahead of me in the rotation, which is great for me, I can see a bit ahead what awaits me, it's like my own personal crystal ball! You must have started the rotation on the 4th of January, I started on the 6th. I wanted to start on the 4th, but had been snowboarding for the first time the previous week and still could not stand being on my knees (for the pushups, what else) on the 4th!!! I had to wait a couple of days.

Great tip for building resistance for pushups - I will try the plank with a weight on my back too!

Janie - I'm glad you are feeling better, there's nothing more frustrating than feeling under the weather, speaking of which, where do you live? Weather allowing you a hike today. My husband is a hiking addict. My husband is English and we hiked A LOT when we lived in England. He has walked England North to South, East to West and vice-versa several times. We are thinking of going to do part of the Appalachian Trail this Summer...

I won't get rid of my equipment - Anythink like that would be sold at a big loss anyway. Come February, a lot of people have given up on the New Year's Resolutions and the papers are full of workout equipment!

I do have a great job, and I had my permanency last Summer, so I better like it, cause I could be here for the next decades (one of my colleagues is 85 years old!!!!).

How is insanity? Do you recommend it? I think the people from the ad look a bit weird, almost difformed..... scares me a bit.

Peiger - I will make my Avatar picture a more recent one, so it's more accurate. I took the picture on my profile from Facebook too, you just need to SAVE PICTURE AS on your desktop and then put it on your profile or avatar. By the way, the first time I tried 40/20 is told Cathe out loud that she was crazy (yes, I talked to the picture on the television and told it SHE was crazy!). I think we all were taken by surprise by HiiT. Frankly, as I said before, the whole time, I was thinking: it's only a few seconds, it's only a few seconds, it's only a few seconds....... Obviously seconds turn into minutes, and minutes turn into whole workouts! As far as I'm concerned, if you can do HiiT, you are in very good shape, I don't care what anybody says about home workouts, they don't have a clue until they try those!

Pumper - I would not be able to teach elementary school, such big classes, so many different things to teach, and all of that control you have to have on the kids, hats up to you! My classes are a max of 10 students, they are adults and military (I always have the threat of the Squadron Commander - but I never have to use it, they know better).

Good job on pushing yourself, it's mind over matter - or shall we say, mind over body?

Oh - and I have noticed about restaurant menus! I have been VERY frustrated in the past having to ask my husband to read the menu for me, because it was printed in a silly curvy character in font size 4, with the dimmest light over my head! I actually remember mentionning it the waitress... Nice way to make us feel old!

Diane15 - I do the same with the MMA workouts (except Fusion) - I hold 1pd dumbbells in my hands to increase the intensity (I don't own weighted gloves - they are on my never ending, always increasing, workout equipment to acquire).

I teach French at the college. The cadets have to have a certain level of bilingualism to graduate (there are 4 pillars at the college - bilingualism, fitness, academic degree, and military). Thanks! Tristan is turning 7 next week, big birthday party at the house tomorrow, I hope he likes it! (For the pushups, I have Ilaria Montagnani's Pushups and Abs DVD, but have never tried it, too scared, but I will by the end of this 3 months rotation!)

You can wrap your ankle weights around your waist???? Wow!

PGeiger - My cat, George, get on the desk and rubs against the computer - the problem is I have the HP Touch computer, so every time his tail touches the screen, my mouse goes wild, Cat and mouse chase!

As for workouts, yesterday was my rest day, but I didn't want to rest, I felt energetic, and I am officially workout adrenaline addicted! So I did Imax 2 for the first time since before I started the rotation (it's one of my favourites). Imax 2 is actually the first Cathe workout I ever bought nearly 2 years ago, and I remember cursing at Cathe as well the first times I did it, saying she was out her mind - I had to pause after the blasts... I ran a half-marathon for fun shortly after (I'm not a runner, a friend registered Phil and I without telling us, nice surprise ). Anyway, I did the race 2 days after spending 2 weeks in Europe, and didn't run very fast, but didn't do too badly (2:24 min). I'd be curious to see how I would do now, cause Imax 2 was a walk in the park yesterday!

Today is Athletic Step, love that one too.

Again, enough babbling - the ON thingy works very well Janie!

Have a great Friday

Sandra

Sandra I love reading your posts! You should not apologize for the length!

And for Eunice, I tried attaching some photos. One of me, my husband (Doug)and my cousin at my niece's wedding (I look a little wild in that one!). Since we have a service theme in this thread I thought I would also include one of me and my nephew iin his dress blues.

Hi Pumper06 way to go with your workout, I know sometimes we have to talk to our selfs to push:confused::confused: but if we don't do who else would do it.

Diane15 That's a good idea adding your weighted gloves to the routine, i love the ab routine that kick my belly.

Hey Janie I have Insanity too, I did the rotation last September I was about to quick but I didn't , how are you feeling now?! I hope much better.

Peiger Yay your husband get home today have fun! I don't have any pets but my kids keep me busy I have been trying to check here for a while bur Stacy call me, my DH calls me, my DD need the computer so is a mess. How was the MMA Boxing today that was my workout for today but my knees were asking for a break so I did back/biceps disc 18, I didn't sweat but I can feel my muscles tires.
Something really funny my 5 years old daughter was describing the ab work from KPC, she saw me a few times doing this one and she remember the stability ball passing thing and she was telling me how to do it, so cute:)

just bumping what Pam said....:D:D
Gabriella I hope things are going well for you at the new job!
Cheryl Hope you are having a great time at the Olympics and that you'll give us the report when you return!
Kay Are you still out there?
Elle Is your snow starting to melt?

SandraGau after I learn how to use the ON button I can be here for a long time, is fun, doesn't?
Yea you should try the backpack, and the the plank with a weight on your back, beside is a great core workout and like Cathe say the core is the power house(or something like that) I discover that every time I was going to do push ups I didn't contract my core so after I did this for a while I found out that I can evenly hold my body weight and my chest was getting strong so is a whole package doing this.
Today I was reviewing the heavy weight dvd for legs(sts) Cathe is wearing shorts, she does not have cellulites:eek::eek: shhhhh don't tell her that.. I was thinking "Why I did not find you before Cathe" I would ed have more fitness millage on my body I would be looking much better" Does this make sense?!?:eek: sorry but my spiling and talking still building just like my muscles..
Sandra so, you live in England? wow it must be beautifully.. Appalachian Trail this Summer... Pictures Please!!!
Insanity is a very hard one but a good to have is wort .. I liked..

Pam I like your pictures you are a very good looking ladie.... I love your arms... do you have the veins thingy.. you know there popping up???? That's what I want I even have dreams about it ...Thanks for sharing your pictures.

Bad little lurker - bad :)

Hi Everyone,

It's been a long strange week, but I have been following the rotation every morning (except this morning). I was up at 2 AM and ended up watching a really great movie on Turner Classics with Lana Turner in it. Then I just couldn't fall back to sleep

I have been running a side project at work to help pathfind a new social networking internal web application that combines features of igoogle and the comment/wall features of LinkedIn and Facebook. I love testing and playing with new things, but I come home and kind of just don't want to turn the old mac on, you know?

I think I'm having a little bit of overload on tech lately - I realize that my new health plan at work has me wearing a pedometer all day that I upload for points, and there's this forum, and I was in the president's fitness challenge (where you log more exercise), and I was trying to keep up with sparkpeople (log exercise and food) and then there's Calorie King that I was maintaining for my food diary (and exercise). Oh and the Workout manager here on Cathe - I'm supposed to be checking off each workout as I do it in my rotation (oops). I realized that I'm inputting all of the same data in so many different places, and it's so inefficient. I've dropped the pres fitness challenge, and spark people. The pedometer from work will actually give me back gift cards for point accumulation so that's a little hard to turn down :). And I will keep Cathe and this forum, of course :p.

SandraGau - love your posts, no such thing as too long.

Janie - I missed seeing what you were up to? I saw that you replied to everyone, hope you are feeling better. Chicken soup cures all :D. BTW, I'm finally starting to see the weight dropping back after an initial gain with STS. I think my metabolism is waking up!

Eunice - you are so bubbly! I always smile when I read your posts.

Gabriella - How is school and the new job?

Pam - Finally the snow has been melting - it has been in the mid-40s for the last few days and will be like that until Monday. Then we may be in for some more --- something, they don't know yet :). And KPC is a good workout, I like the Kick Max one better. The standing leg routine is killer, I'm usually whimpering towards the end.

Diane15 - the weighted gloves make a difference don't they? Oh, and I was in the Navy for 13 years. Loved it - wasn't on a ship because my systems were on combatants and women weren't allowed at the time. But that time in the military has given me the drive to do so many things and stay in shape and become the woman I am - now I feel like a recruiting poster

Pumper06 - you go! anytime that you can keep up some sort of activity is wonderful. I find that it's the habit of doing the activity that I don't want to break.

Sorry for the lengthy catch-up - see you all tomorrow (I will do my Friday workout Saturday). I'm going to have a cup of Sleepytime tea...

Elle

Hi everyone! Just a quick post from me tonight. Today I did Disc 12, that was enough for me!

Sandra- I agree with the others, your posts aren’t too long! Imax 2 & then a half-marathon? Holy cow! Was that the same day? I love Imax 2 (actually all 3 of the Imaxes); it does give you an adrenaline rush, doesn’t it.

Pam- Wonderful pictures! You look so very fit! This picture thing is fun, it’s so great to see everyone. And you too have a military relative!

Eunice- LOL, Cathe sure does not have cellulite, does she? Hey, at least you did find her! And you definitely make sense, your language skills are just fine!

Elle- Yeah Navy! I’m a little partial since my dad & oldest brother served in the navy, & now my oldest son too. I guess the women are on the ships now, & I’ve heard they may go on the subs as well. So that looks like a lot of tracking of activities for you; it does get overwhelming. I was trying to do Sparkpeople at the beginning of the year, but have slacked off there since it gets a little tedious.

Hi to everyone else: Janie, Diane06, Gabriella, Cheryl, & Kay!

Diane

Hi ladies!
Finally saturday morning and I was able to sleep in a bit. This whole week I've been feeling like a zombie!

I love reading your posts! Great tips in them (Love the weighted backpack idea!)

Well, yesterday became a rest day after the day before (and I guess I made some poor food choices at dinner:mad:)

Today I had a 4 minute treadmill workout. Nothing too fancy!

Hope you all have a great day!

Elle I can understand the tech overload and the over tracking. We have a health rebate at work and you have to log your workouts over time in order to get it. I also started doing sparkpeople and the Workout Manager here. I quickly dropped Sparkpeople - it was too much work. I do really like the Workout Manager though. It's very motivating for me to check off my workouts each day. And of course there is money involved with the health rebate so I'll do that until I get the rebate!

I've been looking at the weighted gloves and trying to decide if I should get them. Do you use them a lot? It seems like they would come in really handy when you can't jump that full 5 pounds to the next set of dumbells. I've read some mixed reviews on them in the forums though.

Diane06 Don't you just love the Saturday morning sleep in?! It's so great to not have to wake up to that alarm clock. I was really tired all week this week too. I had the best sleep last night that I've had all week.

Eunice You are my friend for life for complimenting my arms! My husband claims the only reason I ever went out with him was because he complimented my biceps. That picture was taken July so I had my water skiing arms then. I'm hoping that STS will help me keep the water skiing arms all winter! I don't have those pop out veiny things though! I don't want them either - that is too much for me :)

This morning was disc 18 Back and biceps. I was doing really well with my weights until I got to the alternating hammer curls. I had to drop back on the weight for both those and the concentration curls. I was going to add All Step at the end, but didn't have time because I had to get my DSD to the high school for Lacrosse. My body is feeling pretty beat today, so I'll either take a short bike ride later or hold off until tomorrow. I hope you all have a fantastic Saturday!

Pam

Pam, Kitties are like that, they are adorable. Do take a spin out with your convertible. How fun! Enjoy the weekend with your honey and your precious animals.

If you can, try to get many workouts just so you can confuse your body. Workouts work best in that way. If you are not a KB fan, then don't get them. Do the things you really like. Then of course you never know what you might like unless you try them.

Great workout! Congratulations on DOM's. T think there will always be something to buy when it comes to working out.

Sandra, We live in the Pac. NW near Olympia WA. A little town called Shelton. We are so very lucky to have this 10 days of sunshine. It gorgeous outside right now and we will be walking in it for another couple of hours today.

Sounds like your hubby has done fantastic hikes. My, wished wevcould have been there too. What a wonderful experience! Where is the Appalachian Trail? How cool:cool:.

You know, I think your right about Insanity and what the models look like. They do look a little different don't they? But, I have to say, I do love Insanity.

Another one I love is Ilaria Montagnani. I have Forza and wished I had all of her stuff. I bet her push up DVD is great. Let us know when you try it.

Great job on your workout. IMAX 2 is not walk in the park for me! It's hard.

Pam, Great pictures. You are lovely.

Elle, I have insomnia sometimes too. That sounds like a really good movie. Did you not get to sleep at all?

To keep track of my workouts I just use a small lined booklet you can get at the dollar store and use one page for calorie counting and on the back I keep track of the cardio and weight lifting and anyother activities I do. I like my life simplistic as possible.LOL That way I have time to post and do other things I like.

I'm glad to hear your metabolism is waking up. Congratulations, a great victory.

Diane15, Good job on Disc 12. You are doing great!

Diane06, Don't fret to much about a few poor food choices. We all do it. As long as you don't make a habit of it, you'll do just fine. Every now and then it's good to do that anyway. Just another way to confuse your body.

Pam, I use the weighted gloves all the time. I'm lost without them. I use them for when I want to be able to lift heavier by adding more weight a little at a time to my routines.

Great job on disc 18. You are getting there. If your body is telling you that you are beat, maybe you need a rest day. Don't want to over tax yourself.

Have a great day everyone.

Janie

Hi from the Olympics

Hi Everyone,

I have been able to get back to Starbucks to use their internet service. It has been a crazy busy time here but I am having a blast. Today was the medal round for the large hill. There were thousands of people here. My most interesting thing for the day was to try to get a fan out of a secured area. I noticed that she was standing on the other side of the fence from where the other fans were. I asked her for her acreditation and of course she didn't have any. I told her that she couldn't be here and that she would have to leave. She tried to tell me that a coach had escorted her in but when I asked for the coaches name she couldn't tell me what it was. So after a few minutes of arguing with her I just got an RCMP officer to escort her out. A few minutes later I saw her in the crowd with everyone else. I kept my eye on her though LOL.

Most mornings I have been getting up at 3:00 a.m. which is really starting to get to me but tomorrow I don't have to get up until 5:00 a.m. Oh boy 2 extra hours of sleep. I am getting good sleeping on the bus to get up to Whistler Olympic Park though......

I have been doing a lot of different things here. My offical job is stadium crew which means we look after all of the fencing at the bottom of the jumps. I was one of the people putting the banner all around the outrun. After all of our work on the stadium is done we need to be stewards at different areas. One of the fun things to do is to take the athletes to the equipment check. We get a start list of all of the jumpers and FIS (The International Ski Federation) highlights who we need to bring to the equipment check. When the jumper come off the outrun we need to make eye contact with them and say Equipment Check. We then follow them to the trailer and wait for them to come out and then escort them back to the corridor that takes them back to the athlete compound.

Tomorrow is open training so I have been asked to be the distance recorder for the day. I have done this before during the World Cups last year. I get to stand on the side of the landing hill and mark down the distance for each jumper as they come down. I get the distance from the distance markers who stand on the other side of the hill. You are only about 10 feet away from the jumpers as they come down and the view is awesome.

The weather has been great, cold in the morning and really hot in the afternoon. It should be called the Spring Olympics with how warm it is.

Anyway I can see that this is getting really looooong.......so I should stop typing now......

Cheryl

Cheryl, You are doing such a good job protecting the athletes from fans. They can be very misbehaving. 3:00 in the morning is soooooo early. So glad you got a couple extra hours of sleep. Your job is amazing, you even get to have eye contact with them meaning a signal, then to be able to be about 10 feet away from the athletes. OMG! Such great memories you are having.

Eunice, The video was awesome. Would also like to add something. Every time I see a military person I try for eye contact, smile and nod my head in thanks. If I see them in line, I ask them to get in front of me. (they usually don't, they don't want the attention) There is also a hand signal you can use to say thank you to whenever you pass them. American Sign Language - Thank you

Something I feel they need to know.

Janie

Cheryl So nice to hear from you, what an amazing experience you are having. I can't imagine being there, let alone being so close to the athletes. That 3 am wakeup has to be tough, but I'm sure in the end it's worth it.

Eunice Thanks for the video. It actually brought a tear to my eye.

Today was my rest day but I did finally get out for a bike ride. It was 65 and sunny so I did a leisurely 20 mile ride. I even had a deer running along beside me in the woods for a little while :D I also got the convertible out and had a wonderful top down ride. I think my car was very happy to be out of the garage too :p I just noticed that 40/20 is on the menu for tomorrow morning so I guess I'd better get a good night's sleep. Good night ladies, hope you all had a fabulous weekend.

Pam

Joey and I did hike today. We went longer but the same amount of time. Such beautiful weather we are having. I was afraid I might get a sunburn.:p

Pam, Now that is what I call a rest day. Good for you. Enjoy 40/20 tomorrow. Sweet dreams.

Janie

Janie So glad you got that hike in with Joey! Doesn't it feel wonderful to just be outside when the weather is so nice? Myhusband was working in the yard and he DID get a sunburn.

I can't remember who gave the tip about doubling up on 40/20 and 30/30 but I tried that this morning and really liked it! Those 30 second rests seemed long after the 20 second ones :p I just don't understand why I am always at least a pound heavier on Monday morning than I was on Saturday though:mad: It's not like I'm going crazy all weekend! Now I'll work my way back down all week and then here we go again. How annoying! OK, I'm done venting. Hope everyone has a great Monday - it came WAY too fast!

Hi Ellejay.
I know this is a very late response but I just have too....Thanks for bubbly:eek::D That is so sweet of you, oh looks like you have the coolest job; all about networking and all that fancy stuff, good for you. And good job with your workout keep it up.

Diane15 Thanks for making me feel better about my language skills.

Pumper6 everyone does poor food choices some times but that's ok we can take it once in a while.

Peiger my friend!:D you are so welcome, Looks like everyone here does something else besides Cathe, you do skiing, biking, Janie does too, but me:( I had a very bad bike experianse... so bad that I got knee surgery and I'm not brave enough to go back. How much weight do you lift doing biceps Dis 18? I'm really bad with the concentration curls:mad::mad:.

Thumper so glad to heard from you, you are doing such a good job and looks like this is not your first time doing this kind of job; everything sound good until you say that you day begin at 3 am OMG. I bet when you get back to your normal life you are going to need a longggg rest.

Janie that is very nice of you letting them go in front of you in line, or just to thank them, I saw the sing language Thank you, I got that one when I help in my DD class room from all the little ones so sweet. So nice that you & DD do biking with Pam you guys go for a long rides that is very impressive.

Peiger I'm so jealous(good way):D you guys can ride; hey! but at least I get to do the spinning class, and I'm not even going to try to go back because I was learning how to ride the bike when I felt.
40/20 is for today too, I hope I can make it I got up early to the 5am class my oldest daughter wanted to come so went with her and my friends.
So how was 40/20 today for you I saw that you wanted to try doing 30/20 after how was it????

You know what guys I'm so mad I weight my self last week and I'm 2 pound heavy:mad::mad: I can't believe that I don't eat junk food, no sodas, no white bread, or pastas. I eat as healthy as I can only one day of cheating food, eat brown rice, whole wheat pasta ans bread, lats of chicken, salads, and I work my tail off, we went to the outlets I put my jeans on and OMG there are so tide. I don't know what else to do HELP any tips
I'm working really hard this March 26-28 is when I get to go to Cathe Tour in San Diego and I'm getting ready....
Well have a good day and I'll be back later to chat with you all....

Hi everybody,

Just wanted to post that I've been sick with the flu for the last 2 days, so obviously no workouts. I'm feeling a little better today, but still not 100%.

I haven't read the posts from the last 2 days, but will. Except Eunice, thanks for posting that video. Stuff like that always makes me cry!

Take care everybody!

Ok I'm, done with 40/20 I was dripping sweat like crazy I got it in my eye when I was doing the butt kicks, noooooo please I can't wipe my face right now..but I did it.
I forgot to mention that Saturday I did Step Blast my knee was acting weir so I didn't wanted to get hurt doing MMA kick boxing; I did this one OMG I love step blast; its a blast at the end when Cathe does the challenge it was fuunnn; my daughter was "Mom how do you know all the crazy steps, the routine , I was showing of with them it feel good. and Stacy(5 year old) got the other topper and try to copy Cathe she was so cute I was thinking all my dvd's are going to be for her she love Cathe, she asked if Cathe knew that she was working out" I told that I would let her know...so that's what I should do now I'm going to FB to let Cathe know... Bye girls..

Eunice Sorry to hear you had a bad experience on a bike. I would really like to wear my ipod when I ride but need to listen for traffic. I've had a couple of scares but nothing serious. I know what you mean about dripping sweat with 40/20. I kept talking myself into and out of doing 30/30 after but in the end I did it and really liked it. I won't do it OFTEN, but I will do it again. I know what you are saying about the weight gain, but hopefully it is just a temporary glitch! I am sooooo envious of you going on the Cathe roadtrip. I'm sure it will be a blast!

I just love Step Blast too! It is one of my favorites. What a cute story about your daughter doing it!

Diane06 so sorry to hear you've had the flu. I hope you are getting lots of rest. You certainly don't want to rush back to workouts before your body is ready. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who cries at some of those videos/photos!

Have a nice evening everyone.
Pam
