Lurker Invitations Feb. Check-In

Well talk about workouts being interrupted!! This illness thing really sucks, going around the family and now it's my turn. I just got better too!! Darn it is really irritating.:mad:

So thanks for all the support about my complainers! It is nice to vent and hear other peoples experiences and thoughts. Helps me process.

Janie my mom lives on Whidbey Island I didn't know you were up there in the Olympic Peninsula!! I love it up there, especially during Dungeness crab season! Yum. I picked up a Clean Eating Magazine today at Whole Foods the recipes look great.

Tracy I am glad you feel better, can't wait until I do, but can't blame this stomach flu on a week in Mexico! A trip to mexico would make it worth throwing up in a weird way.

BooBoo I agree with Tracy enjoy your evening, getting to stressed about it takes the fun out of a splurge, but then again I maybe I splurge to much!!!:eek::eek:

Laura I can't believe you worked out after a root canal!!! Mine was one of the worst things I have ever had done to me! You are really dedicated girl!

Michelle congrats with the General connection, hope it goes well. Can't relate at all on the swimsuit fetish the idea of swimsuits makes me tremble with dread!!LOL:cool:

Shoegal what do you teach?? And you are so right on about not being able to satisfy everyone out there, I gotta stop trying....

Hopefully I feel better and get back on track...so jealous of all your great workouts you all really rock!

Hey All!!

Hello Fellow "Lurks"

No work out scheduled today.... BM2 upper body premix in the am.

Laura, I have not done my 1RM yet.... I'm game for May if you want to start together! I got the set yesterday and have not even had time to preview! :( Will give some extra time to do both! :D

Janie, thank you for your words of encouragement! I know I am really deconditioned right now.... but, am slowly working back! Glad to hear that you and DH are getting STS started for all us lurky lous! ;)

Haven't had time to read through all the posts hope to tomorrow!

Have a good night all! Sherry

Sherry, sounds like a plan for me, just waiting of some 'fun' money to make the purchase!!

Bob just told his team on the Biggest Loser, "as hard as you guys are working out in the gym, you've got to be working just as hard in the kitchen."

had to share that since it rings so true for me I have got to get on the calorie game like I have the workouts!!!!

Hi Everyone,

Wow! I don't come online for a couple of days and there are literally pages and pages of posts to go through! It's nice to have new members on this check-in though! Here's my update:

Monday: DH was not feeling well so he asked me to walk the dogs for him. I took them for a 1/2 hr walk and when i got back i did not feel like doing anything else. I decided to do 4DS LIS Step only premix because it is only 30 minutes and i figured it is better than nothing. It was my first time doing this and i stumbled around trying to figure out some of the moves. Not the best workout but better than nothing i guess.

I really should start watching the DVD's before attempting them but i feel stupid just sitting there watching a workout DVD.

Tuesday: DH had to work late and asked me to walk the dogs when i got home. I really did not feel like doing anything else and decided to watch a movie. So much for February's new habit of not eating in front of the TV. I ended up eating a bunch of junk and that continued into today for some reason. What is wrong with me?

So that brings us to today: I ate too much junk although i did bring my lunch to work. To compensate for the extra calories i decided not to eat anything else after 5pm until tomorrow morning.

I taught yoga tonight. When i got home i wanted a quick cardio workout but did not want to attempt Tuesday's workout again. I decided to try IMAX 3 step only premix b/c it's only 30 minutes. I've never done this one before so of course i stumbled around in some parts. After that i did a Namaste episode.

Welcome to all the newbies on this check-in!

UK Laura: If Milk is your one vice, it's not the worst thing you could be eating...trust me!

Twinkle: For unsweetened soy milk, try a chinese grocery store like TNT. I'm not sure if you have one in your area but there are a couple in Scarborough and they sell an unsweetened soy milk made by "sunrise"

Laura: It's your pilates class and i say do what you want. If people think it's too hard they can rest more or modify if they need to. You asked what DVD's i couldn't live without. That's a hard one because i go through phases so it changes. Right now i'm into Jari Love, Cathe's Muscle endurance, and Low Max. Ask me in a couple of weeks and i will have a different answer.:p

Michelle: I have Cathe Stretch Max and often do all three of those segments back to back. I feel great after doing that.

High fives to everyone else for doing so well and coming out of lurkdom. This is getting a little long so i'll check-in with the rest of you tomorrow!

Elle

Good morning everybody--it's Thursday already. Man, where do the weeks go?

Well, it's down-right cold here in Virginia this morning. I put on 3 layers of clothes and then my snow jacket, ear-muffs, and 3 pairs of gloves before walking my golden retriever, Ripken this morning at 6:15. Too cold for dog mommies and puppies this morning so we did a quick walk-about instead of our normal 2 miles and got back in the house where it is toasty warm.

Speaking of toasty--today I did Leaner Legs from the CTX dvds. That was only an hour and a half ago and my lower body muscles are already talking to me. That's a great workout, but I had those lunges, expecially the static lunges. I'd rather do leg presses and those kill too.

JanieJoey: Thanks for the friend request. I'm still new to that process and it takes me a while to remember how to accept the request. So bear with me as I try to get that done. Sooner or later I'll fumble my way into figuring out how to accept. Helpful suggestions are appreciated.

I'm off to Quantico Marine Corps Base this morning for staff meeting at Reserve Affairs, then our weekly teleconference with Marine Forces Reserve and Mobilization Command. This afternoon is a meeting with the Deputy Commandant Manpower and Reserve Affairs. I love meeting with the General but I've got a paper that needs to get written for delivery to the Deputy Commandant Aviation at the end of next week. But I do love my job!

Hope everyone has a great day--bundle up and stay warm. Hope everyone feeling under the weather gets well soon.

Good Mornin,

Today is scheduled STS back and triceps. I previewed it last night and got everything ready. I just ate so will do it in a couple of hours. I love this series.

Larua uk, Root canal, never in my life have I've ever gotten one done. I don't envy you. Did it hurt? Ewww, you have to go back? sounds gruesome to me. I hope things will be back to normal soon. Hot tub; We even go in the hot tub when it's snowing. That is a beautiful site. Not me obviously, but what I see around me.LOL:D It is truly lovely . It's a big old barrel kit that Joey put together. Instead of heating it with wood (that's how it comes) Joey converted it into using propane. It fits 4 people sitting.

Booboo, You have a Joey too? Aren't Joeys wonderful? The hot tub was on of the best investments we've ever bought. We use it almost daily. Did you have a good evening with your friends? I hope you didn't feel too guilty for eating the appetizers. It's not often, right? You deserve it.

Tracy Lynn, So glad you are back to normal and feeling better from the Mexico trip. I love the old Step Fit, need to bring that one out soon and do it on one of my cardios days.

Michelle, How cold was it this morning for you and Ripkin. It must have been way under freezing to dress that warmly. Leg day; those leaner legs workout are very hard. Yes, DOMS for a few days most likely. That only means you are doing a fantastic workout. Good for you!:D If I remember right, click on your avatar. It will bring you to your personal page. On the right side, (I think) click friends/friends request and once that pops up, click on the box to show you want this friend. Something like that. I play around too, and sometimes don't remember how I did it.LOL:eek: Your job sounds so fantastic! Enjoy it.

Elle, I agree, Mondays workout was better than nothing. You did good. I have so many Cathe DVD's that I do sit down, pick one out and watch it the night before I do it. It really helps me. Sometimes you can skim through it. I don't feel guilty doing it at all, it makes for a better workout. Eating spurts like yours happen to me too. Just get back in there and never give up. Not ever! Keep trying, eventually it will stick. I try to think of it this way, when I give it my all in my exercises and work so darn hard, it's easier to say no to those food cravings. Sometimes it works, and sometimes not. I don't know why we do these things, but I know the frustration. Hang in there. Great job yesterday on exercising. Try to watch the night/day before if you can. It does help a whole lot. You'll see.

Laura, So sorry you are not feeling well again. Gosh darn it! I feel for you.:( My dad use to commercial fish off Whidbey Island. What a small world. I get Clean Eating magazine too. I'll look up the crab recipe.

Well off to prepare more for back and triceps. See you later today.

Hello Ladies,
Well there was no happy hour for me last night. Told DH I had a headache, so is that a :( for fibbing, or a :) for getting out of it without hurting his feelings!?!?

Janie: OMG, hot tub with falling snow, can't get much better than that with your joey huh?
Michelle, your job sounds incredibly intimidating to me! Awesome that you can still find time to workout and give your pooch a good walk despite the temp out there. I must confess I wish it would get cold out here in California. Just there mere announcement of possible drizzle and my daughter and I pull out our LL Bean galoshes. We look utterly ridiculous but we make believe we are in downpour.

Laura: you inspire me to workout. You get sick again and you have a legit excuse for not working out and here I am just lazy and took the day off yesterday.

Elle: Wow no eating after five?!?!?! I would be climbing the walls! I truly admire your discipline.

Well I have just finished my protein shake and off to workout. I will check to see if my Chalene program today is supposed to be cardio. If so I will sub it with one of my new Powerstrike wo"s that I have yet to unwrap.

Have a great day everyone.

Thursday Check In

Hello everyone!!!

Today I have on these winter white boots I got from Nordstroms not sure which brand - I like these boots because of the color and because they have this buckle detail. Never regretted getting these.

Last night - I did the "Scrambled Eggs" premix from BMII that I failed to do yesterday. I had tried once before about a year ago - to do this premix and had to stop due to an injury so I wasn't completely sure what it would be like. A more fitting title would have been Scrambled Egg Cardio - I sort of thought they would have scrambled in some more weight work so I was kind of disappointed. Especially when I got to the 4th step segment (which is the bonus cardio on the DVD and is just the first 3 combos altogether) - this segment is done and then repeated - thought that was a little much and I was sort of bored - but I did it!!!:p

Janie - funny that you should mention the reference of S&TC - it is actually where I got the "Shoegal" name from. Carrie used it in an episode as her email address. I really LOVED that show. I have every episode on DVD and of course - love the shoes!!! I'm not a hot tub fan - which is funny since I love a good hot bath - but sitting in there with falling snow sounds fabulous.

Michelle - you remind me of my sister - who is absolutely in love with her Golden Retriever "Harold" and has a major swimsuit fetish as well. I can well understand having all the suits - I am a major beach fan and you need mulitple suits - can't be seen wearing the same one twice!!!

Elle - I don't watch workouts before I do them either - it seems like a weird waste of time and I just stumble my way through new ones. I can see that it is probably helpful. I recently got Amy Bento's ASC II and my goodness - definitely needed to watch that once over - it was near impossible to get the first time - or the 2nd time - and if you hadn't previewed (which I hadn't) it would have been a major source of frustration (which is was) - but it was also a welcome challenge. Like hard complicated step. I firmly believe that on days when it doesn't appear if you'll have a good workout - anything is definitely better than nothing. It keeps the momentum going.

Laura - I used to teach aerobics (like a hi/lo) and a body sculpting class back to back. It has been about a year since I stopped teaching. I moved to the country when I married and there isn't too much in the way of gyms around. I know that I tried hard to make it a class everyone could appreciate but it just was not possible.

Booboo - sometimes I am guilty of little white lies to my husband but he knows how I'm wired with the workouts and getting them in is quite important to me. So when I tell him I don't want to go somewhere he sort of knows why.

Tracy Lynn - glad I'm not the only one planning when to workout - yep - I think my husand is catching on. Sometimes he baits me with it: he tells me he'll be out in the shop doing whatever - and while he does that - I can get my workout in. So he's learning!!! I've got him planning my workouts too!!!

Hope everyone has a fabulous day!!!!

So feeling better already! Fast & furious I guess. Still going to take it easy for a couple of days though.

Steady Rate, easy cardio today: snowshoed up the road for 34 minutes.

Going to try and do at least one stretch max routine maybe two later today.

So my two quotes for the month to keep me motivated on my diet are:

"You can't out exercise a bad diet"

"as hard as you guys are working out in the gym, you've got to be working just as hard in the kitchen." Bob BL

So I keep talking about my diet but haven't declared a plan to achieve my goals.

So here is what I am thinking about no fewer than 1200 cals no more than 1700 cals a day. eating fruits, veggies, lean proteins and whole grains. I will track my cals on Fitday.com Kinda following the basic guidelines of clean eating, the flat belly diet, the med. diet with the idea of healthy fats.

So that's the plan..
Hope everyone is well...

Good Evening,

Finished with disk 2 of the STS series. Tomorrow will do Aerobic Yoga.

Laura, So glad you are feeling better. A couple of more days and you'll be back to your old self. I can just see you snowshoeing. Were you able to find the time to stretch today? By the way, your quotes are great. I think your plan is well though out for your nutrition. Keep up the good work.

Shoegal, Your boots sound beautiful. Below my name is what I wore today.LOL:rolleyes: So glad you finished your cardio. Carrie was my favorite in the series Sex In The City too. It was a great show. Did you see the movie?

Booboo, Awww, I'm so sorry you didn't enjoy yourself. But a girl's got ta do what a girl's got ta do. Right? If that helps keeping the munchies and not eating right under control, good for you. Eventually though, you will have to do it. My suggestion, will be just have fruit/vegies water or sprite or something and lean meat. If that's possible. It's true, you can't get much better than snow, hot tubbing. Wonderful! Hope you had fun with your workout.

Raining in San Diego

Hooray, Hooray, Hooray! It is raining in San Diego so out come the galoshes. I go outside just to smell the air which smells great because I live in a part of town on a mountain with many many trees, no other neighborhood like it :) Still no STS, so I was forced to send SNM a tracking number request. I order fairly early, I believe my order number was 18219 or something like that. However I will continue to plug on with Chalene.

Buenas Noches,
Booboo

Hi Everyone,

I did the Wedding cardio today. It was great!

Booboo, I love San Diego. If I could live here in the Pac. NW and San Diego, I certainly would.

Hi everyone, still taking it easy. Decided to make this an active rest week. I did get in one segment of Stretch Max yesterday, thanks for checking in Janie!

Today did a easy walk with a friend in Boulder. On a flat hard-packed trail. My friend is really out of shape and gained a lot of weight, and trying to get back on track. She thought it was a great workout but for me it felt like nothing! I guess that's what Cathe does for us, huh??:)

I will do Segment #2 of Stretch Max later and maybe some pilates.

Great it is raining in San Deigo! We could use more moisture here for sure, I am sure you guys heard about the fire in Boulder in January? It could get very scary here for sure this summer if we don't get some more moisture.

Good evening everyone. I had a early morning with my work schedule so my workout came later today. I did Kickbox on Cross Train Express. I like kick boxing but really have to concentrate on my form particularly with the arm movements. Cathe does 2 sets of flying scissors on this one--32 on one side and then 32 on the other. I manage to get 24 done on the first round and then 16 on the second. Those are tough particularly after doing leaner legs yesterday.

BooBoo39: I was glad to hear that it started raining yesterday in California. I just hope your guys don't get so much rain that you have to worry about mud slides. My husband and I love San Diego--it's been a while since we've been out there. I walk my pooch in all weather: heat, cold, snow, rain, ice--you name it. I've got a set of full rain gear (Helle Hanson--it's the best) and my LL Bean muck-lucks. Haven't had to wear that particular outfit in a while. Speaking of pooches, Ripken is poking me in the side with his nose and doing the huff and puff: time for the nightly walkabout.

Hope everyone has a great Friday evening!

Got my STS today :)

I got a response from SNM and UPS records show STS was left on my doorstep on Monday the 2nd. It however was delivered to my neighbor. I was a little bummed that she didn't ring me up and let me know. However I have it now so I will be reading the booklet tonight.

Michelle, we do get minor mudslides but even more to worry about are the fires. After a really dry season, then some rain we get a lot of overgrowth which then dries out by the summer and August and September are potentially deadly months if a fire breaks out. We have had 2 or 3 wicked fires to where all schools in the county were shut down for a couple of weeks. The last fire we had I didn't see DH for almost a week as he is a fire captain. The last fire was started because some power lines snapped and once they hit the dry brush, well it was ugly. So many home owners are now suing San Diego Gas & Electric for the negligence in maintaining the power lines and in turn SDG& E is now suing the home owners in retaliation claiming that it was the home owner's responsibility to keep their properties clear of dry brush. Regardless of who prevails in the lawsuits it is going to fall on the taxpayers :( SDG& E is now proposing that during the months when we get strong Santa Ana winds and a fire alert is issued they want to cut power for seventy two hours. So you can imagine how that is going over with the residents! Enough with the tutorial!

Goodnight

Hi all,

I'm back for the weekend! Looks like all kinds of interesting things going on, and many new members. It will be fun getting caught up :D

Hi Everyone

Sorry I haven't posted for a couple of days but I've been lazy. I had an unintentional rest day yesterday and had a little too much wine last night. Now my head is feeling it lol. Also we're going to friends tonight for a take away Indian so I'll have to watch what I'm eating. I seem to do really well at the beginning of the week from Sunday but as it gets further down the week I lose motivation, especially for cardio. I keep telling myself to 'quit your moanin' Cathe style to get myself moving.

We've had quite a bit of snow over here in the UK this week, but once again we are completely unprepared. Nearly all the regions have run out of salt. Can you believe it? Some areas are having to use table salt to grit the roads.

Oh it must be lovely to live in California where theres little rain. I have a friend who moved to Hollywood (is that in California?) I'd love to go. No STS yet its driving me mad waiting for it. I have no patience.

Anyways have great weekends everyone and enjoy your workouts.

Love
Laura

Good morning everybody
Beautiful day here in Virginia. The sun is shining and the temps are supposed to get up in the 50s and 60s for the next 5 days or so. Spring time is coming!
I'm sure old man winter will rare his head a few more times around here, but his days are definitely dwindling.

Pippadog: On the other side of the pond, it sounds like it is not quite spring time yet. Hang in there.

BooBoo39: The electric company is threatening to turn off service for 72 hour increments--interesting. That will be great for the California economy. Sounds like the only ones who are going to get any satisfaction with these competing lawsuits are the attorneys. Crazy, crazy, crazy stuff.

Thinking about motivating to exercise--today will be my last day wih cross train express: All Step. It's one of my favorites.

Good Morning Ladies,

BooBoo I heard that the fire in Boulder was possible caused by a electricity line knocked down by high winds too. I really feel for you, you must be terrified when your husband is out fighting fires! He is one of America's unsung heroes, as all our firefighters and police forces are.....it is crazy about the law suits...

ShadowPupuwelcome home!!

Michelle:saw my 1st flower of spring yesterday in Boulder, a little crocus, so delicate and pretty. I think we will have a little more winter come our way though! I CTX is on my wish list, do you like it?

U.K. Laura I love Indian food, it is really the only food I can NOT eat only a little of!!!!:eek: I lived in Indian for a couple of years and it really my go to comfort food!! Enjoy it and don't feel guilty about it.

Well it's hit 60+ degrees here in Virginia. Throw in some rain every couple of days and as far as I'm concerned the weathe can stay like this right into April. Ripken is liking it too--later today, we'll have to go for a walk and see if he can play with some of his dog buddies in our neighborhood.

Got the exercise done (All Step). This afternoon I'm going to go through my taxes one more time and then print out a copy for my husband to look at. I believe in getting the taxes done as early as possible. Such a yucky task.

LaDubose: I like the quote by Joseph Pilates that you have following your signature. My sister (catchick65) and I were discussing this very topic this morning on the phone. Why do people invest money in workout equipment, dvds, gym memberships, etc and then never use them? Wishful thinking? You can't buy health and fitness that's for sure. Got to expend some energy.

No flowers in Virginia yet, but it is only a matter of time. I have to cut back my lariope before the new stuff starts popping up. Maybe later today or tomorrow. Taxes first.
