We made it to August already folks! Don't know where the time went, but it's here.

Hi everyone, well this morning I must have turned my alarm off in my sleep and never even woke up! So long story short we didn't make it to Boulder for the girls tutoring session. The tutor was miffed, but what can I say?

So was going to ride my bike while the girls were in session, now I guess I will select some form of cardio to do here in the yurt. The sun is finally coming out! Will also try to motivate the girls for a hike with Maggie.

I just printed up the 1RM sheet and I was wondering how you guys tackled this? Did you start with the 5 * and work down to the 3*? Is it necessary to do below the 3*? I thought I would get a jump on this just in case I do get the STS series for X-mas. I think I recall that it took some of you awhile to get it done.

Janie: Yes it does seem like our weather patterns are very unstable and unpredictable lately. What are you up today? Did the heat wave breaK yet? I heard it was 103 in Seattle the other day, hottest day on record ever!
Laura, Did you Maggie and the girls get a hike in? If you did, I bet it was beautiful. Any bears? With the 1RM's I started with the most stars and worked myself down from there. I didn't do the 3[s on down. It takes a little while, but you'll be done in about a week or so. Treat it like a workout for the day. Also, when you do the exercises, I feel that writing your weight down is a good idea. I've always seemed to do it differently than what I did during the 1RM's. I can't wait for you to get them! Yea! Shoegal's idea is good too. Depends on how you want to do them.

Hello out there -

No exercise today - gee - can't catch a break - I will remember fondly those days when nothing hurt and I worked out very hard. I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever see those days again.

Janie - I was thinking of buying a pdf for the P90x to get the info from the guides. I really wish I would have bought the version that had everything - but what can I do about it now- at any rate - the pdf of the guides sells for like $2 or so - so I'll just go buy that. I can't Hulahoop to save my life - however did you do it?

Last post in July - Swoosh - the summer is just flying by!!!
Shoegal, Believe me, I've had back pain too and know what you are going through. It's OK, you'll be fine soon and back at it in no time at all. Just really need you to take the time off for your body sake and let it heal. Don't worry, we'll help you back on the wagon when your body is ready. I know how frustrating it can be and how scary it is when you don't exercise for fear you won't get back on the wagon. But you will, you know you have to, so heal first. You have us to vent to.

ended up doing Low Max, holy cow that is one tough workout!:p:p:p I did it on a 6' step last time to learn it and this time I bumped it up to 8' and it about killed me! Awesome leg work! I had to rewind a few times to get the steps but not nearly as much and it was ok because I needed a longer break anyways!!
Laura, I love Low Max, it's so long and wonderful when I have the energy to do it. Congratulations for using the 8" steps. WOW!;)

Happy August everyone,

Janie

Good morning everyone--been watching any of the roadtrip? Looks like fun. My sister and I are thinking we really ought to try to go next year. DH thinks we are nuts. They keep indicating that they are going to announce the cities on Cathe's Fitness Tour for Eggland's Best, but nothing specific yet. I'm betting they save that news for the end of the RT.

Today is most likely a break day, will wash the boat instead. It is SOOOOO dirty. Got quite a bit of rain yesterday afternoon and early evening. Today we are back to hot and humid--no haze.

Shoegal: I find the Cardio Hits workouts to be very challenging. Cathe has alot going on with the choreography and I really have to pay attention to what she is saying. The time just flies by and I really work up quite a good sweat. IMHO, the Classics dvd is easier and the choreography is not that inticate. But I would definitely say that Cardio Hits requires alot of energy and your rapt attention. Sister and I just talked about all the workouts on Cardio Hits and we both agree that Step Works is probably the toughest of the three--but we think all are really good.;) So, you've got one or two more days to order at 30 percent off on shop cathe.

Laura: maybe I'll try the rotation for August. That is if Cathe has time to do one. She seems to be a little busy this weekend. Fit Fairy is at the roadtrip too, so August rotations may get posted a little later than usual. Haven't checked out that forum yet.

Janie: I know that you like the Cardio Hits dvd too. Jump in and help me convince Shoegal that it's not an "easy" one.

Hi to Shadowpup and Ironlady. Hope everyone has a great weekend.
~michelle

Wow--just checked and Cathe posted the August rotation yesterday. Might give it a go. However, I'm not a runner so I guess I'll just insert step workouts on days where Cathe has running. Where does she find the time? I misspoke--not Fit Fairy but Fitness Freak who provides rotations as well. Hers is not posted yet for August.

Michelle, I want to go on a road trip so badly. It costs a lot of money though. Seems I just can't justify it so I purchase her workouts instead. Next year we may go through there on a trip, then I'll be able to do it. Hopefully at the time of a road trip.:) Enjoy your break day by washing your boat.;)

Shoegal, Cardio Hits is all that Michelle explains and more. They are hard, long and gives a great challenge. You won't be disappointed at all.:D I've had them for so long, and I'm still challenged to this day. At a 30% discount, you can't go wrong, and you get 3 challenging workouts for the price of one with that discount. Can't get better than that.

Michelle, It's a good plan to replace the running with step. She always seems to have a great rotation planned. I've done many of hers but need to do something else this month. Please let us know how you do/progress with it.

Need to do some free weight lifting, will talk later.

Janie

Happy Sunday morning. Nice cloudy morning--warm and humid. Looks like we might have some rain on the way today.

Janie: I guess the biggest expense for you and Joey would be the airfare--it's not cheap to fly from one coast of the U.S. to the other and back again. I'm probably a 3 hour drive from Glassboro, NJ--which would make for a less expensive trip. Sister and I are definitely going to mull over trying to go next year, though. Of course, maybe Cathe will come to D.C. or someplace in VA for her fitness tour. And hopefully, she will go to Washington State and Colorado and Texas, too. Guess, we'll just have to wait on the announcement for the sites.

Shoegal: I hope Janie and I have convinced you that Cardio Hits is just that: 3 workout hits on one dvd.

Back later, contemplating my plan for today.

Hi all,

Wanted to check in just quickly - with the heat here, I'm spending as little cool awake-time in the house as possible! I returned late Friday, and had a Laura-Max day yesterday: bike ride two hours, rode two horses, dog walking, some power yoga. It just somehow seems wrong not to have STS on that list - but my body is craving a break from intense strength training, so I'm going to give it at least the suggested week off between mesocycles, maybe two.

More later, hope all is well - goodness, there are so many posts! It will be fun reading for when it heats up :)

BTW, I think I have a pointer to one of the P90X pdfs somewhere and will hunt that up. I found it online, to go with my (used, but in the box) p90x dvds when I bought them earlier this year. It showed the order in which the dvds are supposed to be used.

Goodmorning! Yesterday I did Muscle Max. One more week left of this GS & MM rotation to go! I have Imax2 on the schedule today, but I may actually take the day off, I have been dragging all week, and there is a nasty cold bug going around with this weird weather. I would hate to get sick the last few weeks of summer. I also have another massive hike planned for tomorrow + my two classes. I also have a BBQ for a friend who is moving away AND a wedding today! Busy Busy!

Janey: We did get a walk in the other day, although it was more of a meander, as we were hunting for porcini mushrooms that grow wild up here. We found 3 perfect ones and made a great wild mushroom risotto for dinner that night. No bears though thank goodness! I think Maggie really keeps the wildlife at bay. She is such a good puppy! Next week I was going to do a rotation someone posted for B&G's that also has upper body work on it, I might substitute the 1MR for the upper body work and maybe get all that knocked out in the next 2 weeks.

Michelle: I think a road trip would be so much fun! If I lived that close I would definitely try to go! I hope she does come to CO if she does I will try and go to that next year. You are getting me excited about those classics now that I kinda got a hang of step again I find it really fun and it really tones those thighs as well! Did you get the boat clean? What is workout today? I haven't checked out the Aug. rotation. I will take a peak at it today, but have a few rotations lined out for this month and hoping to do the P90X in September. Although I might only do one month of it, I have been reading about it on the Open thread and several people found it redundant after one month.

Shadowpup: Welcome home! Sounds like a great day yesterday! My kind of day for sure! Love riding bikes, horses, hiking anything that gets me outdoors. I don't know if I would really call that a rest week though! LOL! Unless your just taking a break from lifting. So you have P90X but havent' done it yet?

Shadowpup:

Well, we packed up early and came home so I was able to get S&H Triceps and Biceps in today. Yeah! I'm going to try the August rotation that Cathe has posted, at least for the first 3 weeks before it goes to the last week with STS. That means tomorrow is another weight day: MIS.

Laura: aren't dogs wonderful. Don't know what I would do without my little Rippy. Unfortunately, he managed to pick up worms somehow--ick. So, DH will be making a trip to the vet tomorrow for medicine. Sounds like you have had a very busy weekend and a busy week coming up. Hasn't it gotten any warmer out there? Ohhh yeah--I love mushroom risotto. It's one of my favorite dishes--that's usually my birthday request: that my DH makes his mushroom risotto. Yummy!

Shadowpup: glad to hear you got some horse rideing in this weekend and walked the pups. Ripken is pacing right now waiting for his walk, so I've got to type fast.

Janie: Hope you got your workout in today before it got too warm. Are you back to STS?

Happy August Everyone!!!

Yes - I agree - why is it August already? Spent most of Saturday doing some cleaning yet again (seems as if the house doesn't stay clean from week to week - I don't get it?) and then went outside to do some late planting. There was a sale on plants at the Butler Farm Market and we went and picked up only the periennals - since it is so late that was the only real deal. My DH had cleared out the area around the gazebo and put a new roof on it. (Something the boy scouts had left behind) - so we planted around there. It is so shady though - I don't think anything will do very well. I was a mess afterwards - and I have poison ivy all over. I have resigned myself to having poison ivy all summer long - if the wind blows I get it so I just have to accept it. I iced my back all weekend long and rested - and it feels okay now - not perfect but I'm working on it. I then went over to my Mom's house and spent some time with her and my brother, Ray and sister Kelly. We took Kelly's two Goldens (Harold & Howie) out for a walk in the park. Yep - love the pups too - dogs are indeed wonderful.

Michelle - you are an enabler - You and Janie - after reading the posts I had this terrible adrenaline rush to fly over to Shop Cathe and order Cardio Hits. I have so far - contained myself - but I don't think I will for long. I think you have me convinced. I have approached my sister about attending a future Road Trip - but she really isn't into Cathe - so she wasn't really motivated to go. I consider you very lucky to have a sister that shares your passion for Cathe.

Shadowpup - glad you are back . Sounds like you had a great day outdoors - it sounded absolutely wonderful.

Laura - I have tried to read what people's honest reactions to P90x have been - I didn't see that they said it was redundant but I could see that being the case. I think the Road Trip sounds like fun too!! I would love to go - I think I told my DH about this one this year and he was perplexed that I'd actually like to go. When I was all into the Firm I wanted to attend their Road Trip too.

Janie - Still super hot there? We have had these days where it rains, clears up, rains, clears up, rains again - clears up and rains again. I have all these potted plants on the deck - they all look like they are struggling. Too much rain!!! Some of the pots have no drainage - what a mistake that was!! Do you have any advice and how to keep them healthy?

I am going on vacation with my family next week to the Outer Banks. I am told all of Pittsburgh heads down to Nags Head all together and we flood the area with native Pittsburghers every summer. My DH does not attend the family vacation since he is not fond of the beach and hates the heat and unfortunately I think all of my family together for an entire week is just too much for him.

I shall post all week but I'm positive I probably won't have an opportunity to post while I'm there.

Hope everyone has a great Monday!!

So, today was day one with Cathe's August rotation: Maximum Intensity Strength. I forgot how long this workout is: about 75 minutes. Okay. I also forgot how fast Cathe moves through this workout. I find that faster weight lifting usually translates to lower weight amounts for me. I did pretty good until I got to the bicep section at which point my arms were screaming. Had to lower my weights on the second round of biceps and slow down on the reps. I think I used every dumb bell that I have and changed the barbell amounts nearly every switch in body part. By the time I got to the bicep section, my bedroom floor looked like somebody threw up dumb bells all over it. I'd also never written down the exercises and weights for this workout. Did that this morning. Next time I do MIS, I will be more prepared.

Shoegal: if you didn't buy cardio hits yesterday, you missed the 30 percent off discount. I hate getting poison ivy and somehow I manage to get it if I get within 5 feet of the stuff. Consequently, I'm not big on gardening and if we have an area that needs clearing, we just hire someone to do it. Hope the poison ivy doesn't bother you too much.

Hi to Janie, Shadowpup, and Laura. Hope everyone is having a great day.
~michelle

Today was a weight workout Total Body. We are using heavier weight. YES!

Deborah, It so nice to here from you. Did you have a good trip? You have so much energy, but I bet you were glad to be home. Also glad you will take an active week off. Good for you.

Goodmorning! Yesterday I did Muscle Max. One more week left of this GS & MM rotation to go! Laura, P90X is different from Cathe in that it does do workouts over, but not so much as to not give results. It's a great program and will enable your body to be confused with all the variety of Tony's instructions. You will see results if people stick with it. After that people can get back to Cathe, I just don't think they tried hard enough with it. It's a really challenging series. I don't think it will hurt to give up IMax today. You are still moving and working hard with your two classes and the hike. Oh the risotto dinner with wild muchrooms, YUM! Next time you have it, can I come for dinner? LOL.;) Enjoy the wedding.

Well, we packed up early and came home so I was able to get S&H Triceps and Biceps in today. Yeah! I'm going to try the August rotation that Cathe has posted, at least for the first 3 weeks before it goes to the last week with STS. That means tomorrow is another weight day: MIS.

Michelle, The Cathe rotation for August sounds great. Enjoy. It's cooler here now, that goodness. It's only in the mid 80's, just the way we like it. We do our workouts just before noon, so today will be great and not so hot.

Will continue the personals so I don't run out of room.

Janie

Well the weather has finally broke! It is hot and beautiful! Unfortunately I am still feeling kind of run down. There has been a nasty cold running around the area with that cold rainy weather. I am not sick but I don't feel up to snuff either, so I decided to play it conservative and not go on my monster hike today. I do still have my classes tonight though. I am feeling bad about letting such a beautiful day go to waste, but need to listen to my body as well. Maybe I will get some weeding/yard work in instead.

I did do IMAX 2 yesterday, low energy but got through the whole thing, and I am tightening it up a lot as I have done it a few times now. I really love the Imax's, wish I had the original Imax as well. Imax 3 is still a little hard for me, just outside of my fitness threshold. I find Imax 2 way more doable.

Shoegal: Ouch! I hate poisin ivy! I had a lot of it growing up in Georgia, can't say I miss it out here! Glad to hear that your back is getting better.

Michelle: I don't have MIS. Sounds like another good one. What DVD is that on?

Janie: that must feel good to go up on your weights! I am trying to talk my DH into giving the gym styles a try. We will see if he actually does it or not..

Here I am again finishing up with personals. :);)

Shoegal, Sounds like you and your hubby garden chores are doing fine. Love the specials during the Summer. There are plenty to choose from and affordable. The gazebo sounds lovely. Try shady plants next time, like Ladies Mantel...

Shade Gardening, Garden Plants for the Shade

Poison Ivy? I hope you will be OK, that sounds awful! We don't have poison ivy here, so I just can't imagine how awful that must have been. Glad you enjoyed your family and the pups. Yes, dogs are wonderful.:)

Michelle, You did a great job on MIS! I bet you were very pleased with yourself, I would have been. I do the same thing with most of Cathe's workouts. Making sure there are a variety of weight all around me.LOL:D I love the phrase "Threw up dumb bells" You are so funny:D. May I use that phrase sometime?

Well, off to do our weight lifting, see you all later,

Laura, You and I must have posted at the same time. You are smart to take precautions to divert the cold. I love the Imax's too. They are just what a body needs sometimes. Very challenging. Hope your hubby will find Cathe's Gym Style series to his satisfaction. He may be pleasantly surprised. Let us know.

OK, now I'm off to do our weight lifting,

Janie

Janie

Hello everyone! Had to catch up on all last months posts! Can't believe it is already August!

Yes, I like the rotations! It is nice to have everything laid out for you! I hope to get to do those step workouts soon! I previewed them.... have to say they look like they will keep me occupied and happily stepping for a long time!!! :D

I am going to be behind with STS unless I can find a gym to workout in while we are in Misssissippi... guess I will just play that by ear! Maybe start Meso 2 over! But, the main thing is the new baby and if i have a rest week well, I can live with that! :p Thanks for all the well wishes.... hope to get to do alot of spoiling!

That is really too bad about the honey bees! :( I do like fresh honey!

So sorry you were side lined with a back injury! Not good at all! Hope you are feeling much better! I myself had a deep tissue neck massage to releive some pain and stress :D!

I will check back later! When I have time to really get into some personals! ttfn

Checking in 8/4/09

My DH and I headed over to my sister's house yesterday evening so that I could get my hair cut and colored. She made us both dinner - very good I have to say and we spend a rather enjoyable evening with everyone. We got home later than I had planned and decided that I was just too tired to work out. I was slow to get out of bed this morning too. Hopefully, tonight is the night to get back on track.

I didn't see any of the Road Trip web cam - damn!! I didn't realize that they were broadcasting - that would have been fun to see. Do they have any footage to view on the site anywhere??

None of the tour places seemed to be ultra convenient - I hope she comes to Baltimore or Washington DC - I think I could swing that.

Michelle - I had already figured out that if I ordered from Shop Cathe with the Featured Product discount plus shipping - it was exactly one cent cheaper than if I ordered from AdvancedWorkouts.com - so it didn't matter if I missed the sale - I could still have it without really missing out on any real savings. Have managed to hold off remarkably - probably because this back keeps sidelining me and I couldn't have attempted it anyway.

Laura - hope you are feeling more like yourself today. I think the sunshine is a great pick me up - I love to feel the sun on me - it is great you finally have good weather. I have attempted to get my DH interested in Cathe - so far no luck - maybe you can be more convincing.

Janie - thanks for the link for the shady plants - good job on the weights for STS - that looked like a good workout.

Ironlady - thank you -Yes - I do feel better - I think I'm going to take Laura's advice and get some yoga DVDs to help me with my back. How are your feet treating you by the way? What's ttfn? I'm afraid I'm not up on all the abbreviations.

Well - going to go - hope you all have a great day - you too Shadowpup! :D

Ironlady, Good exercise plan while you are away in Mississippi. How is that new baby by the way?;) Hope you get to do a lot of spoiling too. So good to hear from you. Was wondering how you've been.

Shoegal, Visiting family is so much fun! Sounds like you had a lovely time. How did your hair turn out? Don't worry about not working out, sometimes life has to be lived. I didn't see the Road Trip cam either. Oh well. I don't think they have footage, at least they didn't at that time, they may have now.

We tried to go fishing today but there was a bubble on the boat traylor and had to go back home. Darn! Another time.

So today will be cardio, don't know which one yet.

Janie

Today on the rotation is a 45 minute run. I'm not a runner so I substituted Step Blast (all 55 sweat filled minutes). I'm definitely feeling my quad and glute muscles today after yesterday's workout with MIS. MIS is on the Powerhour dvd--and power hour just happens to be up next tomorrow. IMAX 2 is on Thursday and I've never done that one--so something new to look forward to. I hope I survive.

Shoegal: I was wondering about the cost difference between the 30 percent off sales on Cathe and AdvancedWorkouts but hadn't done the homework. Plus I think you don't pay shipping with AdvancedWorkouts, so you actually come out ahead. Sweet.:)

Janie: your weight amounts look impressive to me. Can't believe you are 5 pounds off. Wow!

Ironlady: my impression from reading the STS forum and from folks here is that everyone deviates somewhat from the prescribed STS rotations. Folks seem to either repeat a meso or pick up where they left off and pushing on. Sounds like you plan to do the same. The important thing is that you are exercising. Have fun in Mississippi.

Laura: take a nap. When I feel ike I'm getting sick or on the border of risking getting sick, sleep is my antidote. It usually works.

My sister is coming to visit this Thursday through the weekend. I'm so excited, but my poor DH is going to be overwhelmed with exercise talk.

Hi Everyone! I had my pilates class this morning we did some fun arm work with the thera-band. On my calendar was Cardio only Premix from Low Impact Circuit. Even though I am still tired and low energy, but still not sick, I decided to do it. It was tough, so hard to workout when your energy is low,but hey I got it done. It is 48 1/2 minutes long which is almost as long as most of Cathe's step routines. I don't know why I am dragging, but I am tired of and thought I may as well bang it out, I might just sweat out what is ailing me or get myself sick, either would be better than this in between stage!

Michelle: I did lay down yesterday before I had to go and teach, it was nice. :) Sounds like a tough rotation, I don't have the Power Hour dvd it does look like a good one though. Hold on to your hats for Imax2! I love that one!

Janie: to bad about the trailer! Hope you get out on that boat soon, fishing sounds so relaxing. What did you do for cardio? Your weights sure are impressive!

Shoegal: did your sister do your hair for you or did you go to a salon together? Nothing like looking pretty to get your mind off a bad back! LOL! Take it easy when you do work out ok?

Ironlady: have a great time in Mississippi! I hope it isn't to hot and humid for you, but I guess you are used to that anyway being from Texas and all! Which step workouts are you looking at? I love Low Max and Step Blast!
