Like/review/verify/don't buy check in for 2016- 2024

Doreen, I still have some of Seasun's workouts. It takes awhile to get the choreography but once I do it is fun. I haven't done any in quite some time. I think the last one was a CIA one that used the bosu.

Laura, I found Dirty Thirty Extreme to be similar to her Chisel workouts. A bit lighter? It had the sword pull that was the same as I did in Chisel cardio today. Although I think she was using lighter weight. I am not sure how 21 One Day Fix Extreme is for the all out weight work unless that was it? She generally goes heavier than that and a lot of the workouts are a 10 rep format.

Belinda, I used to do Step Jam quite a lot. I am pretty sure I still have it here somewhere. Sad that I don't know. Shows how long it has been since I pulled it out. I know I never got rid of a Cathe workout unless it was a VHS that I had replaced with a dvd.

Turquoise eyes, after years of buying workouts and equipment on impulse or hearing all of the hype when they are new, I have learned to wait till the fun dies and see if they are still used much and to search a lot for information, clips, answers to y questions etc., before I put down the money. I have so much that I finally let go of some workouts and equipment. Plus moving to a smaller house. I could have squeezed the Bowflex and dip station that we got from a gym into this house but seriously, I used them sporadically and I would rather have the space. Same with workouts. I finally let go of ones I new I was never likely to pull out again. The original Insanity set went. I kept the set with Insane Abs, Upper Body, and Insane Sports drills or something like that because it is the one I pulled out the most.

Doreen, thanks. I put in an inter-library loan request. Hopefully they will loan it out. I wish it was still in vogue too! Been stepping since the step came out. It's funny, but once I learn a routine I never forget it. It just clicks with me. I have all of Amy's step so I'm sure I'll recognize those songs. I look forward to earning these, thanks.

I haven't done Step Jam in ages. That one was a lot of fun and I remembered all of the steps too. I am pretty sure you have this one somewhere, lol. You have no idea how many dvd's/set I have I forgot I had them :( So Chiseled workouts is similar to Dirty Thirty Extreme? I have both 21 DF sets. I am also trying to let go of workouts and equipments. We do have a huge house, I am already down sizing. If I don't like a dvd/or I have a huge thread factor is gone :)

Laura- I love step too! I wish it was still in vogue in the fitness industry (but then I would be tempted to buy more :D). Z-fit step is 3 steady state combos, no blasts, only a couple jump moves and a burpee in one of the combos. (My heart rate always sneaks up on me with this one. I start out thinking its easy and then woah- I'm breathing hard!) What makes the combos tricky are the ball-change moves. She does several of them. I think she's very different from Cathe's step style - stuff I've never seen Cathe do- more dancy I guess.

The funny thing is that there are two, maybe three songs on this DVD that are also on Amy Bento's step DVDs. I always wonder - is there not enough workout music out there that two completely different instructors would end up with the exact same songs. Both are produced by the same person so maybe that's how that happened.

I also like Susan Z and Amy Bento. I also have a few CIA dvd's that I really like. Haven't done any Suzanne or Amy in a long time. Need to pull them out soon.

I have heard the same music used on quite a few workouts. Even some of Cathe's older ones had the same music as others. It probably costs for the use of music and certain stuff is lower cost to use. Also I think Greg Twombly has been involved in many instructors dvds and video tapes and have wondered if that is where the music comes from. I know there is one tune on one of Cathe's 4 day split step workouts and Sharon Twombly's Athletic Step Jam. The music on Slow and Heavy has been on many workouts. I really like different music on my workouts. Cathe's newer workouts are great for new stuff.

Good morning

The Terminator - The Gauntlet is done :)

Diane Sue, I have heard the same music used on quite a few workouts I own too :( Isn't KCM filming her dvd's at Cathe's gym too?

Off to do some yoga, BBL!

Belinda, I am not sure where Kelly's filming is done. Maybe so. I think it was in the same area. I thought I caught something on her facebook about moving?? I don't know if it was her gym or herself or both. I just skimmed it. I was looking awhile ago and I thought I need to pull out Tabata trek with Mindy Mylrea for my spin bike, her Bosu workout and Seasun's Straight up step. That was one of her easier step workouts. All are cardio so they might work in with some of the Hammer and Chisel workouts. I am going to write those down and put them in my agenda book. Maybe P90X+ abs. I love the hanging ab work. That has been a favorite.

Rest day today :D

Today was just Yoga Relax (full) for me. Hands are not too bad and I was able to do downward dog ok. Might be an easy day tomorrow (workout wise) as well. Have my mammogram at the hospital. Not sure how long that will take. Usually they want extra slides or ultrasounds.

Belinda, several of KCM's workouts were done at Cathe's studio. I don't have the newest two, but it looks like they went somewhere else for those. I do KCM Slim Sculpting quite a bit w/ the kb (at least before hand problems) and I always feel so at home since that one was done at Cathe's.

To all, funny I was just reviewing Double Down (Amy Dixon/Paul Katami) to see if I thought I could try the weights in it, and I noticed several songs that Cathe has used lately.

Belinda, way to go with loving hanging abs! An inspiration for me. And thanks for the H&C comparison. Still trying to figure out if it is worth adding to my wish list (for my birthday).

My plan for the next week is to see if I can sprinkle in some weights here and there and try to tolerate it. If not, I've mapped out some cardio.

Hope everyone has had a great weekend.

Cat girl - I just started doing KCM workouts and really like it :) I only have a few of her workouts. Maybe all the instructors are getting a deal on those songs, that's probably why we hear them over and over again. I do like the songs in ICE. Good job on Yoga Relax. Glad it didn't bordered your hands.

Diane Sue - I also have to pull those dvd's out soon :) I have a lot of Bosu workout, but no Bosu :( I used to do hanging abs, haven't done them since we moved to the US.

You've made excellent points here, WD. I let go of many DVDs years ago that I bought because I had to own everything The FIRM put out. I realized I hated some of those workouts, my body didn't like some of the others, and so I donated them. I think it is easier in the Internet age to make better decisions pre-purchase, at least with workout videos. Years ago the best info I could go on was what I read in Collage Video Catalog. Now we're able to check 9-minute clips of each Cathe workout on YouTube and see if it is truly something that will fill fitness gaps in what we already own. Watching those clips was one thing that helped me determine which workouts from Cathe's huge catalog would suit me best, back when I first started exercising with her. I also realize that there's always On Demand if I was really dying for far more variety at some point, too. While I prefer DVDs, that is a nice option to have.

Lately, I've been getting more realistic about my body's capabilities. There are some workouts that I'm just not built for and I finally accept that. (In my teens and twenties, not so!) It's okay that I can't always do what someone else can do; I put forth my best everyday into my workout, and there's no need to compare myself with others. I also take my long-term financial goals more seriously than ever. Clarifying my future goals and needs economically made me realize that any short-term gratification a non-necessity shopping splurge would give me is not in my best interest if it cuts into money I should be saving, or putting towards meeting an even larger life goal.

I'm lucky enough to have gathered most of the items I'll need for any Cathe or classic FIRM workout I want to do at this time, too. I also own a really great Pilates book that I've been utilizing for quite awhile. There is so much info on the Internet for free about anything fitness-related. It took years to collect all of my equipment, but I only keep what I use. I hate clutter, and that trait definitely helps. I live in a small two-bedroom apartment, so owning much more than I already do would be a bad idea. I got rid of the jewel cases the DVDs came in and put my DVDs in a single leather DVD case, instead. My things really don't take up a lot of space, I can lift each thing by myself, and I can honestly say these are needed items. That's one reason I'm able to step back and say that I should not spend anymore for the time being. (I realize not everyone has accumulated everything they need, so what I'm saying wouldn't apply to them.) I own 3, 5, 8, 10, 12, 15, 20, and 25 lb. dumbbell sets. I have a set of 1 lb. wrist weights, 5 lb (each) ankle weights, a Dynaband, sliding discs, a seriously thigh-trimming firewalker band that I have hardly even used, a 4 lb. medicine ball, a 65 cm stability ball, a yoga strap, a yoga block, a yoga mat, rubber tubing, a TransFIRMer step, a 9 lb. body bar and an 18 lb. body bar. While there are still a couple of things I'd like (a barbell with plate weights, a heavier-resistance Dynaband, etc.), owning all this other stuff already means I can put my money towards other goals now, with most of workout needs met for the time being. I also realized that people have worked out with far less equipment than I have already, and yet they still met their fitness goals. :)

BTW, after my last post I actually counted out the workouts I own...and I really underestimated the number quite a bit, LOL. It turns out that I own 61 workouts. All the more reason to say I've got more than enough for now, personally! :D

Baynergirl - Good job on Hardcore! That one always scare me! I need to pull it out and give it a shot again though.

This morning I did Cathe Live - Upper body express - 40 minutes.

Today I did 6 minutes warm up on the Spin Bike followed by Kelly Coffey bonus waistline which is fairly active and mostly standing from Home Gym Intervals, mostly for extra warm up. This was 15 minutes. I then did Hammer Build up , 32 minutes and 15 minute leg Hammer , 18 minutes, which was the option to Iso Speed Hammer. It went much more smoothly this time and had the weights and times figured out a bit better. I finished off with Turbo Fire Stretch10, 13 minutes. Total time was 75 minutes and calories burned 486.
I used 15# med ball and dropped to a 10# for a couple of moves in Hammer Legs. They use an 8.

Thank you :) That one always scared me too. Wasn't as bad as I remembered. WTG, on Cathe Live this morning.

Diane Sue, I have to admit...those workouts look like a lot of fun. What results are you seeing so far? Your weights are impressive :)

Laura, yoga relax is always a nice relaxed yoga to me. I really enjoy it. Good one for the weekend. I went and looked last night and Kelly Coffey moved to Medford fitness.

Doreen, nice length for the upper body workout.

Belinda, I used to do the Hardcore Extreme Hi/Lo a lot along with the pretty much all cardio on the Terminator. I cannot remember the title for it right off. Love those workouts.

Turquoise eyes, I haven't counted my dvds. I have so many. I put a lot in two large locked cases when I moved and still have two shelves full right now. I ran out of room on my book shelves so had to do something and it sure made transporting them easier. I have managed to acquire extra things that came with workouts. I have 3 pair of gliding discs. My grandchildren enjoy them too :)

Diane Sue - I can't remember the last time I did Hardcore Extreme or The Terminator. Both dvd's are a lot of fun and have great music, IMO! That's funny you ended up with 3 gliding discs :) Somehow I have at least 6 stability balls :( I guess, I never have to buy another one, lol

Turquoise eyes - I gave up counting my dvd's a long time ago :) I do know I have a lot.

Laura - Yoga Relax is very relaxing. I also like Yoga Max a lot. That one feels like a workout to me.

Belinda, 3 more workouts and I am done with the first 4 weeks. The time has went pretty fast. I can see a bit more definition. I think it is leaning me back out a bit. I have upped my calories a bit because I started losing weight which is not a real goal for me. I am really liking the workouts.

Is it too late to join this thread?

It is so appropriate for me. On Black Friday I got quite a lot of BeachBody's series, despite already having over 100 workout dvd's and then I thought okay, once ICE arrives I am all set for the next very long time. In 2015 I was definitely out of control with my workout dvd's shopping.

A couple of weeks ago I discovered Cathe Live is also available in Europe (for some reason I thought it was like BeachBody's demand, only available in the US. So then I said to myself, alright with ICE and all the Black Friday Purchases and everything else I already own I will be all set until summer at least and then I can try Cathe Live, but I am having a lot of trouble stopping myself from subscribing to Cathe Live. Every week I checkout her latest workout and end up with two problems:
1) I want Cathe Live
2) I love her workout clothes and end up ordering even more workout clothes. Seriously?! I workout at home, no one sees what I am wearing. Anyone else have that problem?

My plan not to buy any DVDs at least in the first half of 2016 already went down the drain last weekend. I ended up ordering 3 KCM dvd's that I had recently read reviews of on 2lazy4gym. I think I prefer Cathe to Kelly, yet I still can't stop myself from buying the KCM workouts and enjoying them. I guess every now and then I need a little variation. When this is the case I should do one of the many I own... I have yet to finish Cize, Insanity Asylum and I would like to return to some of Amy Dixon's again... or Step. I love Step!!! Even some of my older Step DVDs like Katina Hunter's Step Party can be fun. And Cathe's Party Rockin Step 2 is just one of the best ever!
